Hunting, Information & Weather For Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:  Well another rainy old day here in Port Loring.  Seems to be the trend now for the past two months.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at…2.6 C | 36.68 F.

Forecast For Today:  Rain this morning which could turn to Snow, very unsettled.

Hunting Times:  Well this morning the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from 11:00 AM – 2:30 PM. Then 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM.  Prime times will be 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM & 5:00 PM.  I give it a 3 Buck Rating out of 5 this morning and a 3 1/2 Buck rating after lunch.  Time to be out there would be  6:38 AM and time to be out of the bush 5:29 PM.  These times have been adjusted as stated in our Ontario Hunting Regulations 2014.  Half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. Winds are coming in from the North East and at the moment Calm. They could increase later on to around 8 MPH.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Highway 522 is wet throughout.  Stores are quiet.  Sure hasn’t been a great week for hunting that’s for sure with all the rain.  Next week could be a bit better with the colder weather moving in.  All one can do is hope and dress accordingly.  Enjoy your day my friends, stay warm and dry which is  important in saying healthy.  I am a firm believer that if your feet or head gets cold or you get chilled to the bone your chances of catching a cold are probable. Some say no that can’t happen, I say it can.  To each their own in thinking I suppose.  If you do get very cold a hot shower as soon as possible coming in from the outside will reduce your chances of getting sick substantially.    You can reach me George Walters at [email protected]

Good Morning:  Well more rain starting things off once again here in Port Loring Ontario.  Temperatures were still quite warm sitting at 3.9 C | 39.02 F, waking up.

Forecast For Today:  Unsettled, probably improving as the day progresses.   Could also see a touch of sunshine a bit later if things goes to plan.  Temperatures will start to fall for tomorrow though with a bit of icy mix for tonight.

Hunting Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from..9:30 AM – 12:30 PM.  Then a bit later from 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM.  I give it a 2 Buck Rating out of 5 this morning and a 3 Buck rating out of 5 this afternoon for seeing them.  Prime times will be.  11:00 AM, 12:00 PM & 5:00 PM. Winds this morning are coming in from the North West at 3.4 m/s | 12.24 km/h | 7.61 mph.  Time to be out there in the mornings at Dawn which is a half hour before sunrise is 6:36 AM and time to leave will be half hour after sunset, dusk at 5:31 PM.  Good Luck!

Around Town:   For the next couple weeks things are leaning towards the quiet side of things with folks all out hunting in our area.  Or should say for most.  I did get out on Monday for a spell with no luck.  But had to come in a touch early as the old back and things were taking a toll on me somewhat.  Will see how it goes a bit later on in the week after this rain makes its way out of our area.  So my friends take care and enjoy your day.  Stay warm and dry and wash your hands after going out to other homes or establishments as it will save you a lot of grief with catching a cold or the flu.  Main thing is to keep your hands away from your face when out and about till you can wash them.  Simple thing to do….right?  Do that and no Flu Shot Needed. Which Is a Good Thing.

That and food for winter what could be better.  Highway 522 is bare and in some places wet.  Snow is pretty well all gone in our area with the warm weather that is upon us now.  Enjoy your day my friends.  Stay safe.  You can reach me George Walters at…  [email protected]

Around Town: Quiet is the trend these days.  Folks are coming in from all over for the Deer Hunt.  Wife and I went to North Bay yesterday and we must have passed around 15 cars and trucks pulling 4 Wheelers.  Put that on top of what has been coming in all week means there is one pile of people wanting to get that trophy buck.  Highway 522 is bare to almost dry this morning and should continue to be so all day.  Tomorrow will be another story with rain moving into the area.  So my friends enjoy your day.  You can reach me George Walters at  [email protected]

Information, Weather & Hunting Times For Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning:   Well a touch cooler this morning waking up to -6.4 C | 20.48 F.   With all the snow and cooler temperatures kind of makes a feller feel like winter is closing in on us.  But then again it is November.

Forecast For Today: Fairly fine, possible snow early.  We will see plenty of sunshine today and into tomorrow also.  Temperatures will warm up to around 9 C / 50 F tomorrow which should take care of most of the snow we have now.

Hunting Times:  This Morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then again a bit later from 2:00 PM to 4:30 PM.  Prime times will be… 9:00 AM, 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM.  I give it a 3 Buck Rating Our Of 5 For Seeing A Few.  Sun rose this morning showing off at 7:02 and will set at 5:05.  Feeding time for the deer will be 1/2 hour before dusk.  Winds are coming in from the…North North East and at the moment calm.  They will rise a touch to around 6 MPH a bit later on this morning.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Highway 522 is bare for most parts throughout but there are a few snow covered areas here and there.  So care should be taken if out and about.  With weather being as it is most furnaces here in town are perking away.  Some wood, some oil and some gas with a few others included.  Have to say it sure feels good too. Our new wood furnace is sure a treat thanks to Jamie Mathews for hooking things up and  getting it burning like it should.  Does take some getting used to after the old one we used to have but the way things are going it will sure save on the wood and oil bill this winter. Hardly takes any wood at all to heat this house now. But then we did a lot of renovating over the past three years.  Insulating the whole house in the walls has helped immensely also. Was a very good investment.  So my friends have a great day and if possible try and get outside and soak up some of that sunshine and breath in that fresh northern air.  Good for your constitution and what ails

Port Loring Ontario Canada, Weather, Hunting Times & Information

Good Morning:  Well had quite a snow fall here for Halloween.  One to remember I would think.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at -2.6 C | 27.32 F.

Forecast For Today:  Fairly fine, possible snow early.  Things will warm up to near         45 F / 5 C starting tomorrow and carry on for three days or so.  So the snow we have now won’t last for to long I wouldn’t think.

Hunting times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from…7:00 AM – 1:30 AM.  Then again from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM.  Winds are coming in from the North North East and at the moment calm.  Prime times to be on watch today will be… 9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.  I give it a 3 Buck Rating out of 5 for seeing a few.  Sun rose behind some snowy clouds at 8:00 AM and will set at 6:06 PM.  Feeding time for the deer will be half hour before dusk.

Around Town:  So Halloween is behind us.  Had a few young ones out gathering up treats drop by last night.  Weather sure wasn’t the greatest for them but seems it takes quite a bit to keep them away from their yearly candy and things.  We sure had some snow up here in Port Loring yesterday, around 6 to 8 inches.  The poor old trees that was taking their time dropping their leaves are just hanging from the weight of the snow.  But it sure does look pretty out there.  Highway 522 is bare for most parts but it does have some icy sections with some snow covered areas here and there.  So if heading into town or just for a drive, care should be taken.  Took a few pictures to show those that doesn’t have snow yet what is in store.  Click Pictures To Enlarge & Have a Great Day. Around Town:   Highway 522 is mostly wet with a few icy sections and some snow covered areas here and there.  So care should be taken.  Seems every year with the first snow fall comes accidents.  Reason being folks aren’t used to it and figure they can drive at the same speeds as when the highways are dry.  So my friends leave early to go where ever your heading and drive slower. Doing so you will have more control of your vehicle which will keep you safe.   The fringe benefit of all this is that you can now take in what nature has to offer.  As with all the snow hanging from the trees it is just beautiful.  Amazes the mind one could say.  But keep your eyes on the road too.  Enjoy your day my friends, stay warm and safe.   You can reach me George Walters at… [email protected]

Port Loring News, Weather & Hunting Times

Good Morning:  Well I said temperatures were going to drop which they have. This morning waking up they were sitting at…-1.4 C | 29.48 F.

Forecast For Today:  Changeable, mending as the day progresses.  Will at the very least have some sunshine with us off and on throughout the day.

Hunting Times:   Today the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there hunting will be from..1:00 PM – 3:00 PM.  Peak times will be at…9:00 AM and 3:00 PM.  The sun rose at 7:58 AM and will set at 6:08 PM.  I give it a 3 Buck Rating out of 5 for seeing a few.  Winds are calm this morning coming in from the North West. It will rise a bit later to around 4 MPH.  Chances are no matter where you sit today you will do well.  Feeding time today will be right at Dusk.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Well once again not to much happening in the way of events and things.  Highway 522 is Bare with a few wet sections after yesterdays rain.  This sun will dry things up in a bit.  Few leaves need to be raked up around our house here now, which will be added to our vegetable gardens along with others.  Makes for some really nice soil come spring. The only ones not to put in your gardens would be walnut, or oak.  I also don’t put in to many birch tree leaves as over the years I have found these to raise the acidic levels up to high.  Same goes for pine needles.  All the rest though are very good for maintaining a good PH in your soil.  When I was farming my old Dad used to say you only get out of your soil what you put into it.  True too.  So my friends enjoy your day, dress warm and try and get out and breath in some of that fresh northern air along with allowing a bit of that sunshine reach your skin.  You can reach me George Walters at [email protected]

Around Town:  Well not much happening here in Port Loring.  Highway 522 is bare and wet. A few trucks and things moving around but other than that quiet.  Four Wheelers are in abundance with  Deer hunting season edging in on us.  Thinking there will be a lot of folks in the bush this season.  Just one more reason to take extra care.  Also see the OPP out and about checking folks out so might pay to double check your licences and things. Don’t need any law officer taking away ones trophy buck.  Years ago I had something like that happen to me.  I was coming back from Florida and through the mountains a deer run out in front of me.  Few minutes later a Trooper came by asked if I was OK and if I wanted the deer.  I said nope no where to put it.  He then threw it on top of his car marked Sheriff and drove off.  Leaving me standing there with a smashed up car that wouldn’t go anywhere.  Had me thinking there for a few minutes, but about a half hour later he came back with a tow truck.  Said he had to get his family to skinning the deer.  Later on we had a pretty good laugh out of that.   So my friends you have a great day and enjoy the warm weather as it isn’t going to last for much longer.  You Can Reach Me, George Walters at… [email protected]

Around Town:  Well pretty quiet here this morning. Highway 522 hardly a car can be seen.   Yesterday morning waking up I had some computer problems so took it to my son Karl and found it was the Power Supply.  So $70.00 later and a trip to Staples along with a bit of work on my sons part, things are back in order here this morning.   While in town we picked up a few items of  choice, had supper with our son as it was his birthday and relaxed a bit at his apartment later on.  I have to say the stores there in North Bay were major busy.  Had to wait for quite a spell in all the check outs.  Good sign though as it means folks are our and about spending money.  Also noticed gas prices were down some for a change at the Esso at 1:23.  Still to high for a country that produces it.  One would think that we as Canadians should be given a break ahead of other countries.  But in this old world money is what directs it it seems.  So my friends have a great day. Around Town:  Well yesterday I decided to try and see if I could get the tiller into the garden. Being so wet didn’t think it would work out but it did, so got it tilled up and in doing so thought I might be lucky enough and get my garlic planted.  Which I did.  So it is all planted and covered with leaves.  Come spring should have a really nice crop of garlic I am thinking.  This year I got some special kind from a friend that grows it for a living.  He brought me up quite a bit so will have lots for next year. The cloves are about the size of a normal bulb you buy in the store.  He said I would enjoy these ones come next summer.  So time will tell.  Good feeling with things getting done up around the homestead here.  Still got to bring in the firewood but got to wait till the old back eases up some, as it is not feeling so good these days.  Cold weather doesn’t help much neither.  So my friends have a great day.  You Can Reach George Walters at…  [email protected]

Around Town:  Once again things are quiet here in Port Loring.  Highway 522 is bare and wet.  Thinking folks are starting to hibernate for winter early this year.  A very good friend of mine dropped me off some garlic this year to plant saying it is one of the best out there.  I had a piece and have to agree, not to hot and not to mild, just right with lots of flavour.  Good size too.  Nothing like what you buy in the stores today.  So soon as the sun begins to shine and dries things up a touch, I will till an area in the veggie garden and get to planting. Will be nice come next spring watching it shoot up through the snow.  So my friends, stay warm and have a great day. George Walters…  [email protected]

But that is what us humans have put forth so who am I to judge.  Moving into this old house of ours I came upon a picture with detailed instructions on how to set up an old water pump.  Figured I would let you all have a look see. Even got the manual for it which is amazing. Also a letter dated back to 1955 with George Lee asking for instructions.  Quite interesting to say the least.  Letter with old pump and dated Old PUmp 1955 Click Pictures To Enlarge…   Have a great Day!

Around Town:  Quiet is a norm for our area this time of year. But with rifle season for deer slowly moving closer there will be a lot more folks added to our population in a couple more weeks.   Last year I managed to get a really nice buck for the freezer and it was so nice I had it mounted.  Takes about a year to do when all said and done.  Here is a picture of it now hanging in our living room.   IMG_8626Click To Enlarge.  The fellow that does them up does a fantastic job and I would highly recommend him if you are thinking of maybe having one done.  Here is his E-Mail for future reference.  His name is Keith.  E-Mail…[email protected]    Great fellow for sure as he takes the care needed to bring perfection to the mount itself.  We sure are enjoying ours with folks dropping in from all over to take it in.  I know it isn’t some folks cup of tea, but if one really sits down an thinks on it, I am sure they will see the value and I don’t mean in money but in having one done up.  I don’t hunt for the pleasure in killing I hunt for the means to eat as does many others in our area.  When this Buck came along it was so beautiful I just didn’t have the heart to throw the hide or head away, never to be seen again.  Kind of figured I gave it remembrance for the coming of time.  The hide I also got done up and it will be ready for Christmas.  Another great added piece for us to enjoy hanging on the back of our sofa.  Enjoy your day my friends, stay warm and dry.  George Walters  [email protected]

Around Town:    Well been doing a lot of shop work these days getting things done up early for next year.  I managed to make around sixty flutes so will have an amazing showing come spring.  All tuned in the pentatonic scale scale, in all different Keys.  Also got a few already done up for those that would like one for Christmas.  My wife also has been steadily working on some of her paintings…and there also we will have a great showing comes spring. She has even done up a few on some 100 year old slate we got many years ago from a factory in Thorold Ontario.  One of a kind pieces for sure, never to be found again.  Could say treasures.  She has sold a great number of paintings this year exceeding last year.  Thinking folks now know just how talented she really is as they are coming from all over to see her display.  Here is her web site, more will be added in the coming days…. https://ruth-walters.squarespace.com/  On another note, still to wet to get the tiller into my vegetable garden.  Hoping it dries up some so I can get things done up and plant my garlic for next spring.  Found over the years one has to work with Mother Nature not against her.  Enjoy your day my friends.  George Walters [email protected]
