Morning Post Aug 31/19

Another really nice day here in Port Loring, Ontario Canada. The sun is shinning, not to hot, just right, what could be better? Temperatures waking up were sitting at 13.6 C | 56.48 F. Seasons are changing. More leaves on the trees every day are dropping and turning colour. By the looks of things we might be in for an early winter. But you never know what Mother Natures has up her sleave. Today I will do some scraping around the windows in the back porch getting it ready for some fresh paint. Then in the afternoon I might just do some front porch sittin’ with my lovely wife. Rough life huh? With that I am off for a cup of Green Tea and will let the day unfold around me.

Morning Report Aug 30/19

It’s a really nice morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Sun is shinning and temperatures were sitting at 11.9 C | 53.42 F. The long weekend is looking good. On another note we did have a great rain through the night. My garden is smiling. You can water all you want but Mother Nature has her own way of doing things. Yesterday I managed to get my shop cleaned up. It was in dire need after all the things I have been doing through the summer. It will be nice to move around in there now come winter. Today I will work up my vegetable garden a bit and plant some lettuce. What I did have is all but gone now. If I plant it now we will have fresh lettuce in about two to three weeks, which should last till Fall. With that I am off for a cup of coffee and some bacon and eggs. That should get me motivated. Then will see what the day has in store.

Numerous Store Items

Here is a picture of different items my wife Ruth Designed and I made for our store, when we lived in Niagara. Was a great time in our life. Not saying we haven’t got it good now. Gives you an idea of what we carried.

White Pine Shelf Unit

Here is a shelf unit I made for an order made from white pine and designed by Ruth my wife. It also has pegs on the bottom to hang items of choice. It is 4 Feet long, 7 inches (17.78 cm) high, and 6 inches (15.24 cm) wide. Nice shelf and another happy customer.

White Pine Hutch

Here is a pine hutch I made awhile back. My wife Ruth designed it and I brought it to life so to speak. Nice piece and the customer was very happy.

Morning Report Aug 29/19

Not to bad, of a day waking up here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. At the moment we are all clouds, but we should see some sunshine as the day progresses. Tonight we will have some more rain and maybe a shower or two tomorrow. But for most parts some really nice weather. Temperatures were sitting at 14.8 C | 58.64 F. It will warm up in a bit. On another note my wife and I took a drive to North Bay yesterday for some supplies, and while there we met our son and had lunch with him. It’s always nice to see him. After that we picked up some items and groceries and arrived back home around 5:30 PM. Long day. You can say what you want, but going to North Bay from Port Loring when all said and done, the day is shot. Along the way we noticed the trees are turning colours. In some areas I would say they are 20% Changed already. Nature is ready for a rest this year I am thinking. Maybe it is trying to tell us something, like maybe we had better get prepared? With that I am off for my breakfast and a cup of coffee with my lovely wife. I then will see what mischief I can get into, or so the wife says. Have a great day.

This morning fishing should be fair. The winds are coming in from the North West. If it changes more to the west things will improve and it could be a pretty good evening fish. I give it a 4-Star Rating out of 5 for catching a few. Good Luck and Stay Safe.

Morning Report Aug28/19

We finally got a bit of rain we were in need of here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Not as much as I would have liked, but a little is better than nothing. The trees and things were in dire need of a drink. Temperatures waking up were sitting at 17.2 C | 62.96 F. It is possible we might see a shower throughout the day. But for most parts the sun and a few clouds will be upon us. The long weekend is looking mighty fine. Hard to believe we are coming into September already. Today I will do some work in my gardens, maybe plant a bit more lettuce as what I planted in the spring is about had it. But we still have lots of blackberries just starting and zucchini is producing leaps and bounds. Our small store has seen a steady stream of customers this summer, which keeps my wife busy. With that I am off for some breakfast and then I will have a cup of coffee on the front porch with my lovely wife.

Old Studebaker Gas Pump

Here is a picture of an old gas pump we came upon, on one of our trips through the US of A. They are getting harder and harder to find nowadays. More memories.

Morning Report Aug. 27/19

We are waking up to some showers here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures are sitting at 16.7 C | 62.06 F. Things will warm up a wee bit as the day moves forward. But not as warm as it was yesterday. The rain will continue off and on for most of the day and into tonight. We are sure in need of a good rain as things are really dry. Nature looks after its own at her time, not ours. Today I will do some writing, I have some ideas for a couple stories. That should keep me busy for most the day. With that I am off for a cup of coffee and some breakfast. Pancakes is on the menu this morning.

Today fishing won’t be the best with the rain. But things will pick up in a day or so. Winds are coming in from the south which is a good thing. I give it a 2-Star rating out of 5 for catching a few. If you do head out in this rain, be careful as things tend to get a bit slippery. Good Luck!

Morning Report Aug. 26/19

It sure is nice getting up to days like this. The sun is shinning, a light breeze and really nice temperatures. Makes a fellow feel alive and wanting to do things outside. If nothing else, but sit on the front porch and breath in the fresh air and take in what Nature has to offer. Temperatures waking up were sitting at 16 C | 60.8 F. It will warm up as the day progresses. Tonight and into tomorrow we should see some much-needed rain. It’s so dry the cows in our area are giving powdered milk. Today I think I will clean up my messy shop. Never ceases to amaze me just how messy I can be. Meaning, not putting things back in their place. But that is why I get so much done I am thinking. The good part is that no matter what I am looking for I seem to know exactly where things are. Amazing. With that I am off for a bite to eat and maybe a cup of coffee. Have a good one.

Once again it won’t be the greatest day for fishing. We need the winds to switch from the S West to the West. When that happens things will improve. I give it a 2-Star Rating out of 5 for catching a few. One last thing. If you have any pictures of your catch send them along and I will post them. In Closing, I would like to wish you well.

It’s that time of year

Well … with the cold weather in mind I decided to split a bit of wood which I cut a few months ago. Should make for some good burning when them cold days of winter arrives. Most of what I am splitting is pine, not the greatest, but really nice for the fall and spring. Also, the pine saves my hardwood for the cold days. I have to admit, I hate to even think of what lies ahead, but one does, have to prepare.

Lunch

So thinking a bite to eat is warranted. Salmon lettuce sandwiches and a bowl of home made tomato basil soup, all from our own vegetable garden. On another note, I managed to get our car washed this morning, and wiped down. After lunch, I will put a coat of wax on the old feller. Sure is a nice day for it.

Harvest Table

Here is a harvest table I made for a customer out of white pine. I turned the legs, then stained it with one coat of Early American and one coat of Golden Oak. Then topped it off with three coats of Oil Urethane. A piece like this will last a lifetime. Happy customer. They used to be a great seller. Today most folks want the modern look.

Woodworking Shop

Here is a picture of my old woodworking shop I had years ago. It was kind of a sad day, as it was torn down making room for a new subdivision. But … like everything in life, things have a way of ending, in spite of what we humans think we can do.

Morning Report Aug. 25/19

What can I say? Other than another great looking day. Temperatures did get a wee bit cooler last night. But it is a sign of what lies ahead. Waking up they were sitting at 8.9 C | 48.02 F. Nice day to do just about anything a person wants to do. Winds are light coming in from the North East. Today I will do some front porch sitting with my lovely wife for a bit, then maybe I will see about washing the car. If the urge keeps on going, I might even put a coat of wax on the old feller. My wife named our car, Chase. Actually years ago most farmers named their implements, tractors and of course their horses. Just a natural thing to do. Today they kind of frown at you. To each, their own, I say. With that I am off for my morning coffee and will see what the day has in store for me on her terms. A person can make plans, but you can’t plan the results. Old wisdom, my Dad used to say. Have a great day.

My Old Homestead

Here is a picture showing the home where I was raised in many years ago. A bit neglected now and the barn was destroyed by a bad storm. I was located in Coldwater Ontario. They built a smaller one in its place. The Potters, Reg and Laura, adopted me, and I stayed with them till I was around 15. The nicest folks you would ever want to meet. Some have asked for a picture, so here it is. It is a bit blurred with light, but still visible to see. GW
