Morning Report January 31/2020

It’s a cloudy day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. But if things goes to plan we should see a wee bit of sunshine as the day progresses. On the good side of the coin temperatures will warm up some today. At the time of this post they were sitting at -7.4 C | 18.68 F a touch cool but not so bad. Highway 522 is bare and dry throughout which will make travelling good. No snow overnight but, we could see a bit of snow later on this afternoon and into tonight. On my bird feeder report, about the only ones visiting these days are the blue jays and morning doves along with some little guys. The strange thing is we have seen Robins now for the past two weeks. Actually we seen one Robin sitting in the tree by our store on the first day of January. Kind of tells me that things are changing with our climate. I think too with the earth shifting a bit each year, it might mess up the birds fight patterns. Anyways … I am off for my morning cup of coffee and put a piece of wood in the wood furnace. When the wood furnace is going you would think your in Florida its so warm. Nice to have though, especially in this country. Have a good day. GW

Morning Report January 30/2020

Cool morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures were sitting at -13.5 C | 7.7 F. The good news is the sun is shinning for a change. It should continue for most of the day. There was no snow overnight which makes me smile. Highway 522 is bare and dry throughout which will make travelling good. With these cooler temperatures I have lit my wood furnace once again which is doing it’s job nicely. It always amazes me just how nice wood heat feels. I can have my oil furnace perking away, which is nice too, but when the wood heat starts the old body seems to like it just that much more. With that I am off to put another piece of wood in the furnace and then will enjoy a cup of coffee. That first cup of the day sure tastes good. Don’t you think? That is if you like coffee. There are a lot of good properties in coffee, in moderation of course. Have a great day. GW

Morning Report January 29/2020

It’s a cloudy day waking up in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We should be seeing lots of sunshine later on today and into tomorrow. No snow overnight so cleaning the driveway won’t be necessary. But … I do have to clean a pile that fell in front of my shop door off my roof. Other than that things are looking good with no snow in the forecast for the next few days. We will get some cool nights but the daytime temperatures for the remainder of the winter will be well above normal. So that is good thing as it will help folks with their heating bills a lot. Highway 522 is bare and dry so travelling will be good for the next few days. One of them days we will head on into town for some items we are in need of. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and then let the day do what it wants. Have a great day and stay warm. Sometimes just a chill can take a toll on a person. GW

Morning Report January 28/2020

Well seems like a norm for us here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It’s another cloudy day. Temperatures cooled down somewhat sitting at -5.4 C | 22.28 F. We didn’t have anymore snow overnight. The good news is, we could see a wee bit of sunshine later on today, and tomorrow it should be out in full force. Just what we need to help with the sickness that some folks have at the moment. Lets hope it don’t get worse with what is going on in other countries. I have a notion it might before it gets better. I hope my intuition is wrong this time. Highway 522 is bare and dry for most parts, but there are some icy sections throughout, so care should be taken. But in saying that it should be a good day if your in need of some groceries. Today I will be working around the house here on some projects I have going. With that you all have a good day. Oh! And if out and about in stores it might pay to take extra care and wash your hands more often, and don’t touch your face. Maybe even pick up a bottle of that hand disinfectant and use it when ever you go into a business, pump gas, or go to the washrooms, using a credit card machine and especially after using a shopping cart. Thought I would mention it. And stay away from anyone that is coughing. Best to think ahead I have found.

Morning Report January 27/2020

Lots of clouds this morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It will remain this way for most of the day. Temperatures have cooled down a wee bit. They were sitting at -2.8 C | 26.96 F getting out of bed. They will continue to fall for the next few days. So it will be back to burning wood for a while. On another note we didn’t have anymore snow overnight which is fine with me. Highway 522 is bare and damp throughout so travelling will be good. Actually after today we should see some sunshine for a few days. That will be nice and we humans are in need of some. Keeps us healthy. Or at the very least helps us stay healthy. It’s also a good idea to pull up a chair in front of a window when the sun is out, that is if it is too cold to go out. You loose a wee bit of it’s properties, but there is still lots your body takes in. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and will see what the day has in store. Every day is like opening a Christmas present. You never know what it might bring. Have a great day. GW

Morning Report January 26/2020

Good Morning. Another cloudy morning here for Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It’s been that way for the past week almost. Yesterday I got tied up with some other things ,so that is the reason for not doing my Morning Report. But there wasn’t much to tell other than for most of the day we dealt with showers. Temperatures yesterday were quite warm which in turn melted a lot of our snow. Over night we had about an inch more of the white stuff, but nothing to write home about. Today temperatures are sitting at 0.4 C | 32.72 F. If we are lucky maybe it will melt that snow we had last night. So far this winter we have been pretty lucky in staying away from the really cold weather. I kind of think the trend will carry on for the remainder. Oh we might get a cool night but other than that I think our days will be pretty good. Highway 522 looks bare but there are icy sections throughout so care should be taken.. Today I will be working away on some stories for my Podcast, along with my columns and things in the News Papers and Magazines. They should keep me occupied for most of the day. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and will let the day unfold around me. Have a good one. GW

Morning Report January 24/2020

Cloudy morning once again for us in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. And by the looks of it the clouds will remain with us all day and into tomorrow. Temperatures though are pretty nice sitting at -1.7 C | 28.94 F. It will warm up even more as the day progresses. We do have some warnings up for our area stating we might get some freezing rain later on today and through this evening. So if that happens travelling won’t be that good. Myself I don’t mind some snow but ice is another story. It doesn’t matter how good of a driver you are problems can occur driving on icy roads. Best to just stay home and wait it out. At the moment Highway 522 is bare and dry throughout which will change later on today. We didn’t have anymore snow overnight which is okay with me. On the good side of the coin we aren’t burning as much wood with these warmer temperatures or oil. Makes me smile. So with that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife and will get to doing some things around the house here. Have a good day.

Morning Report January 23/2020

Another cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We didn’t have any more snow overnight and temperatures stayed quite warm. Waking up they were sitting at -1.8 C | 28.76 F. It will warm up even more as the day moves forward. Things could start to melt a bit too. We also could see a bit of snow later on today and into tonight, but I don’t suspect we will get too much. But as I always say in this neck of the woods anything is possible. Highway 522 is bare throughout this morning, and it should be a pretty good day for travelling. So if some groceries are in order I would think this is the day to do it. Today I will be working away on some more Podcasts as I like to get enough done up for summer. When it gets nice I don’t want to be sitting in front of no computer. LOL But it is nice in the winter … keeps me active. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife. Have a great day.

Morning Report January 22/20

It’s another cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Things have warmed up some though sitting at -1.5 C | 29.3 F. It will warm up even more as the day progresses. Also the long range looks good to with temperatures for the next two weeks staying right on the freezing mark or above. Can’t beat that for this country. Highway 522 is bare and wet with a few icy sections throughout. Travelling should be good so no reason not to pick up your groceries. On another note with this warmer weather I won’t be using as much wood as I was, so that makes me smile. Might even turn on the oil furnace instead now and then. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee.

Morning Report January 21/2020

It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We didn’t have anymore snow overnight. It was however quite cold. Today things will warm up quite a bit, almost to the melting point. Temperatures waking up were sitting at -16.6 C | 2.12 F. Tomorrow we should see lots of sunshine, which will make things feel that much better. Highway 522 is partially snow covered with some icy sections throughout. Travelling shouldn’t be too bad later on this morning. On another note, I will be working away on some podcasts and writing up a story or two for my columns and magazines I write for. It keeps me busy and my mind on good things, which is what is needed to stay healthy. With that I am off to put some wood in the furnace, and then see if I can rustle up a cup of coffee.

Morning Report January 20/2020

It’s a very cold morning here in Port Loring, Ontario Canada. Temperatures waking up were sitting at -27.9 C | -18.22 F. It kind of makes a fellow feel like staying in bed or in my case going back to bed. With this New-Mac wood furnace we have, the house is so nice we never notice the cold till we go outside. Great furnace for sure but the kind of wood one burns is important too. Highway 522 is partially snow covered throughout. Care should be taken if out, and a good heavy blanket would be something that everyone should have in their car, in case something goes wrong. You never know with the vehicles of today with all them electronics, especially in this cold weather. I plugged mine in last night and then turned it on this morning, just to take the coldness out of it. If I was going anywhere I would have turned it on earlier. No snow overnight which is fine by me, as yesterdays clean up was enough for me. Today we should see lots of sunshine, but with this cold it won’t do much good. Tomorrow things will warm up a lot which will make things more bearable. With that I am off to put some more wood in my furnace and then see if I can scare up a cup of coffee or two. Have a great day and stay warm if out and about. And if I might add … make sure you cover your mouth with something warm and breath through that. In doing so it will help your lungs a lot. You might not think this cold is hurting them … but it is.

Morning Report January 19/2020

It’s a cloudy morning for us here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Since yesterday we had around another 6-8 inches of snow, and we could see a few flurries continuing on this morning. We could also see some sunshine later on today and lots of sunshine tomorrow, but it will get a lot colder. So I would think today would be the day to clean up the driveway while it is a wee bit warmer with temperatures at the moment sitting at -13.2 C | 8.24 F. We are having more flurries at the moment. Winds are coming in from the North East which will make things feel a touch cooler than they really are. This morning I will keep busy cleaning the driveway and decks. This afternoon I will see how I feel. Just never know when you get my age. LOL With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and a bite to eat. Have a good day and dress warm if out on them snowmobiles.

Morning report January 18/2020

It’s not as cold waking up here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures at the time of this post were sitting at -12 C | 10.4 F. A lot warmer than yesterday morning, that’s for sure. We didn’t have anymore snow overnight, but it looks like we are going to get some later on this morning, into tonight, and tomorrow. If we get what is predicted the amounts could rise another 8 inches or so. But we will have to wait and see how that goes. Highway 522 is bare a the moment, but that can change quickly, so if out and about later on today care should be taken. Myself I will be taking it easy today. My lovely wife is doing the wash and I will be working on my podcasts. It’s a lot of work preparing them, but it’s something I enjoy doing. On another note my wife and I went to North Bay yesterday to pick up some groceries. Met some friends from our area while there and a few that enjoy my columns. Nice to stop an chat to them. We also met our son and had lunch with him. He had set up my new cell phone and while eating he showed me how to work things. Nice phone with a good plan too. Not cheap though, but that is the price you pay for quality these days, or so they say. We are lucky our sons are so talented when it comes to these things that’s for sure. Especially in this day and age. After lunch he went back to work and we carried on with our business at hand. Groceries are up there in price this year, but there are deals if you seek them out. I have found though that veggies and fruit are terrible quality this year, some shouldn’t be on the shelves for sale. When I was selling produce from our farm, it they looked like the things that they are selling today, I would have throw them out. Fruit mouldy, lettuce disgraceful, not a good scene. The worst part is no flavour at all. And the thing is, we have all these so called laws that suppose to make the food that is being sold … better. Some of these laws are a joke and truth be known, has put many a great farmer out of business. Anyways … enough of my ranting here this morning LOL I am off for my cup of coffee and will see what mischief I can get into. Have a great day. GW

Morning Report January 17/2020

Very cold morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures at the moment are sitting at -29.3 C | -20.74 F.

It’s the coldest morning so far this year. On the good side of things the sun is making an appearance, but it won’t do much in the way of helping with the cold. It will remain cold most the day. Tonight and into tomorrow we are expecting some heavy snow to move into the area so care will have to be taken if out and driving. There are warnings up for tonight and the weekend. Highway 522 at the moment is pretty well bare but it does have some icy sections throughout. If your in need of some groceries today would be the dayto get them. Other than that not much more to say here this morning. Have a great day and dress warm if out and about.

Episode 5: Car Wash

Episode 5: The story this week is of what happens when a fellow doesn’t look after his car wash equipment. Great story.

Morning Report January 16/2020

A cloudy morning once again for us in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It is a bit cool with temperatures sitting at -8.1 C | 17.42 F. Tonight will be even colder dropping down to -22C / -7F. Last night we had another 2 -3 inches of snow. So that will give my wife and I our exercise for the day cleaning the driveway. Highway 522 is snow covered with icy sections throughout. So travelling won’t be so good for awhile. The plow has been through which helps some. Tomorrow is looking better with some sunshine in the forecast, but the very cold temperatures will be upon us. Not much we can do about that other than keep the furnaces fuelled up. LOL With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and will let the day unfold around me. Have a great day and dress warm if heading outside. GW

Morning Report January 15/2020

Another Cloudy Morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures have warmed up quite a bit sitting at -1.1 C | 30.02 F. With the warm weather and the cold not far behind we could see another 10-15 cm / 4-8 in of snow tonight and into tomorrow. Depends on how it tracks. After today though things will cool down substantially. I might have to put an extra blanket on the bed for the weekend. But it is that time of year. Looking out, Highway 522 is mostly bare this morning, but there are the odd icy sections throughout. But I would say if your in need of some groceries this is the day to get them. Myself I will be working on my Podcasts and writing up a story for my columns. Which should keep me busy for most the day. With that … I am off for my morning cup of coffee and a bite to eat with my lovely wife. Have a great day. GW

Morning Report January 14/2020

Another cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The good news is we didn’t have anymore snow overnight. On the ground now would be around 6 – 8 inches. Temperatures waking up were a touch cool sitting at -12.3 C | 9.86 F. They will warm up as the progresses. Things will begin to get really cold on Thursday. But we are into the middle of January and coming up to February which is the coldest time of the year for us here in the north. Then nearing the end of February things start to warm up a touch. Myself I am ready for spring already. LOL With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee. If there is one thing I really enjoy in life, it is my coffee in the morning and around two in the afternoon. Have a good day.
