Morning Report Aug 31/2020

Good Morning! Man … here it is the last day of August. How time flies by these days. Looking out my living room window it looks like our day here in Port Loring, Ontario is shaping up to be quite nice. The sun is shinning with just a few clouds in the sky. Temperatures at the time of this post was sitting at 51F/14C. I have to admit it is nice for sleeping. Today we will open all our windows and let in some fresh northern air. My wife is working on doing up tomatoes as we have a good crop this year. They will be tasty come winter. I do have a few for sale and put them out on our trailer out by the road now and then, along with some cucumbers and zucchini. Highway 522 is slowing down a wee bit, but there are still a lot of folks in our area from other towns and cities. Once it cools down a bit more things will slow down even more. Yesterday I worked in my old woodworking shop on things for our cottage to be, and will continue on doing the same today. Everything is slowly coming together now. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife and will then get to work. Take care and stay safe!!

Morning Report Aug 30/2020

Good Morning Folks! It is looking like a nice day for a change here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning down upon us, and it should remain with us for most the day. With a few clouds here and there. Temperatures waking up were sitting at 11.6 C | 52.88 F. It will warm up some as the day moves forward. Actually the rest of the week is looking not too bad. Sure is nice to be able to sit outside, taking in what nature has to offer, without the bugs and things annoying you. It is also nice that a person can open all their windows and clean the air in the house. Which is what is needed these days, especially in the cities. You know, folks are going to have to realize that no one is 100 % invincible when it comes to this virus.
“We’re going to have to learn to live with It. And some will have to change careers. We also can’t keep handing out money, especially to those that are …. well, I won’t go there, but most know who they are. The good news is if we keep distancing ourselves from others, wear a mask when going near folks, stop singing in groups …. as this spreads the virus immensely, staying out of groups like churches and others, where there is a lot of people, it will help a lot in spreading this virus. The good news is, if we wash our hands more often and do what’s right, you’ll not only protect yourself from this virus in part, but you will also stop hundreds of other diseases, including most all colds and the flu. It’s just using common sense my friends. It seems though a lot are lacking it these days. Anyways that is my morning rant or as I call it in my Podcasts. Today’s Slice of Life. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee on the front porch for a change now the rain has stopped with my lovely wife and then get to work. Take care, stay safe and do what’s right with what is going on in this world today.

Morning Report Aug 29/2020

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy rainy day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It will continue to rain off and on for most of the day. At the time of this post we are having some heavy rain. Highway 522 is slowing down these days, but there is quite a few still here renting and staying with friends. The LCBO is the busiest store in town. LOL I guess folks have a lot of free time on their hands these days. Yesterday my lovely wife and I got the mowing all done up. We then cleaned out the weeds from around the tomatoes, so she can get at them easier to preserve them for winter. We do have a lot this year. And being so tasty they will sure be nice come the middle of winter. After that, my wife went up on the roof and painted the chimney and cleaned it for winter. She is an amazing woman let me tell you. I would do it if I could, but I am not good with heights. After that we took it easy for the rest of the day. Today I will be working in the shop on the new bar for our cottage to be. It’s pretty well all done, other than painting. Then I will get onto the kitchen counter with two doors and a sink. That should keep me out of trouble for a couple of days or so. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with that woman of mine. No front porch sittin’ this morning with the rain. With that take care, stay safe and do what’s right with this virus that is lurking in the background. It is patient.

Morning Report Aug 28/2020

Good Morning! Another cloudy day is upon us here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It will remain cloudy for most of the day, with the possibility of a shower later on this afternoon and into tonight. We could see a bit of sunshine off and on, which would make it nice. It is nice weather for doing outside work though. Highway 522 is slowing down quite a bit these days, with folks leaving our area for another year. Which might be a good thing. Yesterday I worked in my old woodworking shop building a new bar for our cottage to be. It’s not a large one, but large enough for two or three people to sit up to and have a drink. Be it coffee or ?? LOL Today is mowing day for my lovely wife and I, and then this afternoon we will see what develops. Some weeks I am good to go work wise after mowing … other weeks … nope, my body says enough LOL. Our vegetable garden is growing leaps and bounds at the moment. We are eating tomatoes every day, and are they tasty this year. I would say the best we ever grew here in Port Loring. We did grow some nice tomatoes years ago on our farm too though. We miss them days. But that’s as far as it goes. LOL Would I go back to farming like we did years ago? Not at this time in life … nope. Truth be told we have enough on the go now. For those that say they haven’t got anything to do after retiring … I say, they aren’t looking very hard. LOL Our days are so full there isn’t enough hours in the day to get everything done we want to do. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife, and then we will get to work. I keep on telling you my wife is lovely …. because she is. LOL. Take care, stay safe, and do what’s right with this virus. More so these days.

Actually this year the winds have been light for quite a few days. Usually it’s not that way. Temperatures are sitting at 14 C | 57.2 F. With that bit of info under your hat. Good Luck!

Good Morning! It’s a rainy day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It will continue off and on for the next couple of days. But if we are lucky we might see a wee bit of sunshine. Temperatures are better this morning than yesterday sitting at 16.2 C | 61.16 F. It will warm up a touch as the day moves forward. Highway 522 is slowing down a bit now. With the kids going back to school folks are leaving cottage country for another year. It will be interesting to see what develops a month after they get back to school. I don’t suspect anything good. But you never know, time will tell. Today I will continue on working in our cottage to be. I painted the floor twice and I guess will have to do it again to tone it down a touch. At least that is what the wife is saying. Hmm …. always something LOL. Oh well, not a big deal just a few hours work. Once that is done I will then get back to work building the new bar and kitchen counter. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and will then get to work. Take care and stay safe. The virus is as strong as it ever was.

Morning Report Aug 26/2020

Good Morning! It’s looking like it might be a great day for us here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun will shine off and on throughout the day. But there are warnings up for a severe thunderstorm later on in the day, through tonight and into tomorrow. So …. it looks like some rain is heading our way. Temperatures have dropped quite a bit sitting at 7.9 C | 46.22 F. It will warm up some as the day moves forward. It is nice for sleeping though as I didn’t want to get out of bed this morning. Sign of what’s to come. It won’t be long and my wife and I will have to bring in our firewood for winter, as we heat with oil … and wood when it gets real cold. Nice to have the ability to do that. Highway 522 is busy but slowing down some as we near September. The grass is still growing leaps and bounds which has been keeping us busy all summer. We don’t really mind as it does give us lots of exercise and the sunshine we are in need of these days. Yesterday I worked in our cottage to be … touching up a few things and putting the first coat of paint on the floor. Today I will put on the second coat and then get back to building our new bar and counter top for the kitchen side of the cottage. So far things are turning out really nice. With that I am off for a bite to eat and then will get to work. Take care, stay safe and do what’s right with this virus.

Morning Report Aug 25/2020

Good Morning! It’s looking like a really nice day for us here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning without a cloud in the sky. But it’s early and no one really knows what the weather is going to do. Some say they do, but I don’t believe that to be true … in part. LOL Yesterday I had a few pressing things to do, so I didn’t get on my computer. All good things though! I also got a lot done on a new bar I am making for our new cottage to be. Should be quite nice when all said and done. It was warm though working in the shop, and I was ready for a shower and a cool drink at the end of the day. Today I will be doing the same. My lovely wife is doing up things for winter that we grew in our veggie gardens. So we will be eating good this winter. Some would be …. Homemade Sweet Pickles, Zucchini Relish, and Red Pepper Jam. I sure enjoy all of them. Today she is going to make Huckleberry Jam that a very good friend of ours dropped off and Cucumber relish if she has time. So she is busy for sure. Lot of work, but it’s worth it to be eating healthy. Highway 522 is still busy but slowing down a touch. Properties are still selling fast in our area. So we will be having lots of new faces in our small town in the coming days. Is it a good thing? Who am I to say, time will tell. Temperatures have cooled down some and at the time of this post it was sitting at 14.8 C | 58.64 F. It will warm up some as the day progresses. Not too much though. Good weather for working outside. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife on the front porch. No breakfast this morning. We miss every other day eating breakfast. Our bodies seem to like it better that way. Also, good for the waste line. Not that I mind … but my wife seems to notice these things LOL. Morning Report Aug 23/2020

Good Morning! It’s another cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We should see a wee bit of sun this morning, but things will cloud up later on this afternoon once again with the threat of a thunderstorm. Tomorrow and next week will be great, other than a touch cooler than we were having. Which is okay by me, as I am not a liker of the real hot weather. In saying that … I am not a lover of the real cold weather neither LOL. Thinking about that, man times sure flies by, here we are coming into September already. I have to admit though, that my wife and I have got a lot done around the house here this summer. Which makes me smile. Highway 522 is still quite busy but slowing down somewhat. Which is a good thing. Today I will take it a bit easy … not because it is Sunday, as every day is the same to me. It’s just we have been so busy the past few weeks my old body is telling me to slow down a bit. LOL. On another note, I have noticed the bugs haven’t been as bad this year which makes it nice for working outside. Now that I said that watch them return. Sheesh, never fails. My wife always says to me. “George never talk negative as if you do that is what occurs.” I am not exactly sure about that saying, but thinking about my past experiences over the years … I would say she is correct in part. LOL With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife, and if the sun comes out we will do some front porch sittin’. Take care, stay safe and do what’s right when it comes to this virus.

Morning Report Aug 22/2020

Good Morning! A cloudy morning so far here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We should see a bit of sunshine later on this morning, but then we could have a thunderstorm or heavy rain this afternoon. Actually we will have rain now off and on for the next three days or so. After that it will then become cool throughout the day, and the evenings will become even cooler. Sign of what’s to come I suppose. Not that I am looking forward to winter. Highway 522 is busy, but I am thinking it will slow down somewhat nearing the end of the month, with some kids going back to school. Which I think is a mistake. But … everyone has to make up their own mind, be it wrong or right. Yesterday my wife and I had a really busy day with the mowing and then right after we decided to take down a huge dead pine tree. It was kind of tricky as I had to drop it between the neighbours house and the hydro wires. But everything went to plan. Today I will be working on building a bar for our cottage to be which will keep me busy for a couple of days or so. Then I will get busy and make a kitchen counter. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife, and will then get to work. Have a great day, stay safe and do what’s right with this virus. Morning Report Aug 21/2020

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures are right nice, sitting at 16.7 C | 62.06 F. It will warm up a wee bit as the day progresses. Highway 522 is still busy these days, with a lot of folks moving into our area. And I mean that too … as folks from the cities are buying up everything. Quite amazing to see actually. But it does show you, that a lot have finally realized that the crowded places aren’t the place to be for most parts. Especially with this virus in our midst. Yesterday my lovely wife and I went to North Bay. We order a few things every two weeks that can’t be bought here in town in the grocery department, and then go pick it up outside the store. Great way to do business I have to say, with what is taking place in the world today. We then usually visit our youngest son at his apartment, but we don’t go in. We stand in the parking lot and chat there for a few minutes, from a distance with masks on. We then leave after taking care of things and chat on the phone to both of our boys. Along the way home we pick a nice spot along the highway, and have our lunch that my wife makes for us, along with a coffee that she made before we left home. Kind of nice actually, it reminds me of how we both did things years ago. After we eat we then head on home taking in what nature has to offer, along with different things. All in all, the trip to town is a great outing every two weeks. On another note, today my wife and I will be mowing the grass around the house here. The good news is the grass is dry this morning and not as long, so it will make things a lot easier and not as hard on the mowers and us. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife, and will then get to work. Take care, stay safe … and do what’s right. GW

Today I will be working in our cottage to be finishing up the paintings of the walls and trim. Then I will switch from paining mode to woodworking mode making some cabinets and things that my wife has designed. Nice to be able to do these things. Morning Report Aug 18/2020

Good Morning!. It’s a cloudy morning for us here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We did have some heavy down pours with lots of thunder yesterday afternoon. There was no damage though which is a good thing. Highway 522 is very busy these days with folks moving around from all over. Extra care needs to be taken when out and around people with this virus. The more people there is … the more chances there is of it latching onto you. “The virus is showing no signs of weakening or going away,” It should also be noted that even though our borders are closed in part. According to our government, more than 35 fights have landed in Canada between Aug. 1 and Aug. 13 that had passengers who tested positive for COVID-19 after arriving in the country.
Most of the flights arrived in Toronto, a few landed in Montreal, Vancouver and Calgary. On another note, yesterday I got a lot done in our cottage to be in the painting department. I will continue on with more of the same today. Temperatures waking up have cooled down somewhat sitting at 12.3 C | 54.14 F. Night time temperatures will start to cool down as the week progresses. Might have to put a thicker blanket on your bed at nights. But day time temperatures will remain quite nice for the next few weeks. Temperatures have cooled down after the rain yesterday, sitting at 16.3 C | 61.34 F. It will warm up some as the day progresses. I have to admit it is a nice time of year. There are hardly no bugs to speak off, and things are growing leaps and bounds in our vegetable gardens. Our corn is especially tasty this year, along with our cucumbers and zucchini. I have been selling some of our zucchini and cucumbers out by the road which a lot are purchasing. Self serve of course LOL Highway 522 is really busy and will continue I suspect till the end of the month. After that things will be slowing down. The grass has sure started to grow, we just mowed ours a couple of days ago and it is about ready to mow again LOL sheesh. Yesterday I worked in our cottage to be, putting on the first coat of paint and will continue on today. Right now we are having some rain with thunder and lightning. Temperatures waking up were sitting at 17.9 C | 64.22 F. It will warm up a wee bit but not much. Along with the rain we are having … cooler temperatures will move into our area. Not so much as they are uncomfortable but cooler. Highway 522 is busy these days with all kinds of campers, trucks, cars you name it coming into our area. Is it a good thing? LOL Time will tell that’s for certain. Yesterday I worked all day in the cottage to be and will continue to do so today. Kind of nice out there. Got some country western music playing, my lovely wife brings me a cool one now and then and working away. What could be better than that. Also, my old fishing buddy brought me over a feed of fish the day before yesterday as he and his son went out and caught a few. I haven’t even uncovered my boat this year with this virus going around. I don’t suspect I will … being so late in the year. Maybe next year. I have to say that them fresh fish he brought us sure tasted good. We ate them for supper while they were fresh. Thanks, Barry, means a lot. With that I am off for my morning cup of tea and a bite to eat and will then get to work. Take care, stay safe and do what’s right with this virus that is around us. It’s strong as it ever was. Maybe more so with the way it is adapting. GW

Today my old weather stick is saying that fishing won’t be the greatest. I give it a 2-Star Rating out of 5 for catching a few. Winds are a bit breezy coming in from the South. Not a good day to be out on the water anyways with this lightning and rain. Best to stay home. Good Luck though!

Morning Report Aug 15/2020

Good Morning! Once again we are into a really nice day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning, the skies are brilliant blue and the winds are light coming in from the South, South West. And temperatures at the moment are quite nice too sitting at14.4 C | 57.92 F. What could be better than that. Well … yes we could do without this virus that is for sure. But other than that things are pretty good, for a lot of folks. Highway 522 is very busy these days which is a norm for this time of year. Yesterday my lovely wife and I managed to get the grass cut which took us half the day. I have to admit it was sure long and being wet from the morning dew didn’t help with the cuttings. Our old mowers earned their keep, that’s for sure. Today I will continue on working in our cottage to be. Still, lots to do but I figure tomorrow I should be into painting then onto making some cabinets for the sink and bar that I want to make myself in the old woodworking shop. I sure miss my old buddy in Michigan that I lost this year. Great friend, and he was always there for advice when I needed it in the woodworking department. And other things. All I can say is life sure isn’t fair that’s for sure, so enjoy it while you can. On another note we had our first taste of fresh corn this year from our garden. Sure tasty let me tell you. Looking forward to some more either today or tomorrow. With that I am off for my morning cup of tea and a bite to eat and then will get to work. Take care, stay safe and do … what’s right when it comes to this virus. I am happy to see that the folks that come into see us are wearing masks these days. Well, most of them. Some don’t seem to care. But such is that.

Morning Report Aug 14/2020

Good Morning! It’s another great looking day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning and so far not to hot with temperatures sitting at 15.9 C | 60.62 F. It will warm up a lot as the day moves forward. There is a slight chance of a shower later on in the day but I suspect it will pass us by. Highway 522 is very busy these days but with kids going back to school I think things will slow down a lot later on in the week. Not that I think sending our kids back to school is a good thing … as in my mind it is the worse thing we can do. But as I always say that is my opinion only. Today I will get to mowing our grass around the house here with my lovely wife, she does the part around the house where you need the smaller mower, I do the rest with the rider and then do the weed eating. Kind of a joint affair.LOL Which makes things a lot easier. So with that I am off for a bite to eat and will get to work. Take care, stay safe and do what’s right. GW
