Morning Chat Dec 26/2020

Hi Folks. How you all doing this morning? Good I hope. For my wife and I we are well, and truth be told we had a great Christmas. We spent it alone, with our boys staying at their home this year, which everyone should have done. We did however watch a movie together over the Internet, thanks to modern technology. Our boys being high tech set that up for us. We then had a real tasty turkey dinner that my lovely wife made, with all the trimmings, and then sat back and took things easy. What could be better than that? Not much. LOL On another note highway 522 is snow and ice covered for most parts this morning. Understandable with all the snow we had yesterday. In total, I would say we had around 8-10 inches or so. Of course there was more in drifts. Today we could have some flurries off and on by the looks of things, with the low-hanging clouds that is upon us now. The temperature has dropped substantially sitting at -12.7 C | 9.14 F this morning. It won’t warm up much more today than it is now. Today my wife and I will clean things up a bit, like our decks, around our car and the trails we have made throughout our property. That should give us the exercise that is needed for today. After that I suspect we both will be in need of a rest. LOL With that I am off for my morning cup of tea and a bowl of cereal, and then get to work. Take care, stay safe and do what’s right, like staying home … unless it is absolutely necessary that you have to go someplace. I am happy they shut things down, but it should have been done a lot sooner and longer.

Episode 53: A Christmas to Remember

Episode 53: Hi folks and Merry Christmas to you all. Man, it sure has been quite a year. I think everyone’s present this Christmas is for this virus to be gone. One can only hope. On another note, I have another podcast for you … that takes a step back in time. It’s a tale about a family that has come upon hard times, and what a couple of old fellers took upon themselves to help them out. I hope you enjoy, “A Christmas to Remember”

Morning Chat Dec 24/2020

Good Morning! Or better yet Merry Christmas. Not long now before old Santa Claus comes down the chimney. I have to remember to shut down my wood furnace tonight. I wouldn’t want to singe his red suite. The thing I like about Santa Claus, is that he isn’t about religion, cults or any anything else. He doesn’t choose sides, and he is there for everyone that chooses to acknowledge him. He even caters to those that might be a touch naughty now and then. LOL My kind of guy. Actually he was created in part, by two New Yorkers—Clement Clark Moore and Thomas Nast—They were major influences on the Santa Claus millions of children wait for each year. My way of looking at this man in the Red suit … is that he is what ever you want him to be. Ho Ho Ho! On another note it has warmed up some with the temperature this morning sitting at 4.9 C | 40.82 F. We could see a lot of snow on Christmas Day. The rain we are having at the moment will change to flurries this afternoon. Then Christmas Day, a new low pressure system is forecast to track northward toward us here in Port Loring, spreading heavy snow ahead of it. Snowfall accumulations of around 5 to 15 cm or 6 inches will be possible before things gradually tapers off Friday night. So … for those that are hoping for a white Christmas … your wish might come true. Highway 522 is wet and might get a bit slippery as the day moves forward. Yesterday I cleaned up my shop a bit and then did some work here on the Computer. Today I will work on a Christmas Podcast for tomorrow. You won’t want to miss it. With that I am off for some homemade blueberry pancakes that my lovely wife is whipping up, with a cup of tea, and will then see what the day has in store. Take care, stay safe and Merry Christmas!!

Morning Chat Dec 22/2020

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The good part is, it isn’t that cold with the temperature sitting at -4.6 C | 23.72 F. It won’t warm up much more today. And if we are lucky we could see some sunshine a bit later. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning and should remain that way for most of the day. As of now it looks like we might have some more snow on Christmas day. Possibly 6 inches or so. Which will make it a white Christmas for many. Yesterday I worked on some things in the house here, and today will do much the same. On another note Christmas is closing in on us. And I see that they are going to close Ontario down for a few weeks because of this virus. My way of looking at it, they should have done that a couple of months or so ago. If they had, this virus wouldn’t be closing in at 3000 a day here in Ontario. They keep on saying that they are doing what is best for the Province and the people, and they won’t hesitate to do something once they have the scientific evidence. That is the biggest joke going, as the evidence is right in front of their faces. It all boils down to money and at the moment … it is what is running this country. Now don’t get me wrong, I am not blaming them as a whole, as the bottom line is, the people are the ones that is spreading it, as they aren’t staying home or doing what is right. Malls are full, churches are full, bars are full, restaurants are full and the large chain stores can hardly hold anymore. I believe that a lot of folks today don’t think for themselves, the powers that be tells them, the stores are open, and they believe it is safe to go to these stores, when it is not. Even taking precautions it’s not!! The thing is, we are so close now to making things right with the vaccines coming on board. But now that the people have made things worse, it is going to take a lot longer for us to get out of this mess. Simple as that. Well … that is my rant for this morning. And remember, all I said is my Opinion Only. Your entitled to yours. Take care and stay safe and do what’s right……… Stay home and stop going to these places. Talk to your family on the phone this Christmas. In doing so you might be saving their lives, or for that matter yours. Merry Christmas!

Morning chat Dec 20/2020

Good Morning!. It’s not so good a day outside this morning. We are at the moment having some freezing rain, which I suspect will change to mostly rain or flurries as the day progresses. On the good side of things it is a lot warmer with the temperature sitting at 0.5 C | 32.9 F. It will warm up even more, as the day moves forward. And the good news is the warmer weather will remain with us for two or three more days before cooling down. Highway 522 is partially snow covered with some icy sections throughout. So care should be taken if out and about. For my wife and I we don’t have anywhere, so we will be staying home. Yesterday I made a dump run so that is out of the way for a couple of weeks. Today I will work away on a podcast or two taking it a bit easy. Other than that … not much else happening in and around our small community. I should say it is small in people, but large in land mass LOL. With that I am off for my morning cup of tea with my lovely wife, and will then see what develops. You just never know what a day has in store. I am hoping all good. Take care, stay safe and look after yourself, family and friends.

Morning Chat Dec 19/2020

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario Canada. The temperatures have risen considerably sitting at -2.5 C | 27.5 F this morning. I actually went for a walk this morning it being so nice. We could see about an inch of snow today and a bit more tonight. Highway 522 is bare and dry so far. Yesterday my wife and I went to North Bay to pick up our groceries and visit our son in his apartments parking lot. It was cold, so we didn’t chat to long. We chatted on the phone on the way home. LOL There is something to say about modern technology. Looking around … the Walmart parking lot as jammed pack with people doing everything they shouldn’t be doing. Not one person was standing outside waiting to get in, so that tells me they are all in the store. But it wasn’t just Walmart, all the stores were full of people too. I sometimes wonder where folks’ brains are located. At any rate, we will pay the price that is for certain. I heard that the folks that were cleaning up the Walmart in North Bay, after the fire came from the London area and five of them had the virus while working there, and visiting places in North Bay. So … that tells me we will be seeing more cases arise in the days ahead. After we picked up our groceries that were brought to our car, and seen our son for a few minutes, we headed on home. Actually, all in all, we had a great day. With that I am off for my morning cup of tea with my lovely wife, and will then let the day do as so chooses. Take care, stay safe and do what’s right.

Episode 52: Good Food

Episode 52: Good Morning! And another week has gone by. Man, it seems time is sure flying these days. Today, I have another Podcast lined up for you that gives you an idea of the food that I and others enjoyed years ago … and into today. I hope you enjoy … Good Food. Take care, stay safe and do what’s right for yourself, family and others.

Morning Chat Dec 17/2020

Good Morning! It’s a cold morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at -20 C | -3 F. However the sun is shinning which makes a bit nicer. It will warm up as the day moves forward, but it will still feel mighty cold out there. It will warm up for the weekend though, which will make it a bit nicer for the snowmobiles’. But in saying that, with the machines they have nowadays, and the clothes they buy, they have it pretty good comparing it to what us folks had in the olden days. Most of us couldn’t afford a snowmobile for one thing. LOL Myself I had an old horse that took me for my ride in the bush. That is … when the snow wasn’t too deep. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning and should remain that way for most of the day. There isn’t any snow in the forecast till the weekend. So that should make travelling good. Which you shouldn’t be doing, other than to pick up some groceries. I am sure that is why our numbers are crowding the 3000 a day mark of infections here in Ontario. I think we are in for some hard times and a lot more deaths. Even though we do have the vaccine. And it is all because some doesn’t want to wear a mask, or stay out of bars, churches, or large gatherings. Well … I am thinking they are going to pay the price. The problem is … they take a lot of others that are doing things right with them. Humans are supposed to be the smart ones of the species here on earth. I don’t believe that for one second anymore. On another note. I did get my shop stove stoked up, so things are nice and warm in there. I also lit my wood furnace, and it is also going nicely. It’s a great furnace! It only takes about four or five pieces of hardwood to keep this house of ours warm for most of the day. At night though, I switch back to oil. Why? Well … I am getting lazy and don’t want to get out of my warm bed through the night. LOL With that I am off for my morning cup of tea and a bowl of cereal with my lovely wife, and then will get to work on a podcast I am planning on doing. Take care, stay safe and do what’s right for yourself, family and friends. And if your going out there in our area, dress warm.

Baby it’s cold outside…..

.

Morning Chat Dec 16/2020

Good Morning! Cold morning here in Port Loring Ontario, Canada. The temperature was sitting at -16.1 C | 3.02 F. It will warm up a touch but not much as the day moves forward. Today we should see some sunshine once the clouds move out of our area. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning with no new snow overnight. We do have around a foot on the ground at this time. And with these temperatures it isn’t melting. It will warm up a bit for the weekend, but then drop once again at the beginning of next week. And we could possibly see some more snow for the weekend too. This time of year in our area anything and everything is possible. The snowmobiles are starting to make an appearance with a few moving here and there. The lakes though aren’t froze solid enough yet for them to venture out. Yesterday I stayed in for most of the day other than walking to my woodworking shop to feed my old wood stove. I don’t mind as it gets me moving, along with some fresh air. Today I will be doing most the same and work away on another podcast. With that I am off for my morning cup of tea with my lovely wife and will then see what the day has in store. Keep warm, stay safe and look after yourselves, family and friends. Oh, I see they are starting to vaccinating some now for this virus, so that should help things in the future. Time will tell. The one they have now is 97% efficient, which is fantastic, considering. It’s amazing what can be done if enough money is put in the right places. LOL Now though we have to start doing these things right here in Canada … and stop relying on other countries. Have a good day.

Ontario reported a record 2,275 new cases of COVID-19 Tuesday

Morning Chat Dec 15/ 2020

Good Morning! It’s a sunny morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. There are a few clouds, but the sun is managing to show itself. Yesterday we had another 2 inches of snow, not enough to get my snowblower out. I will wait on that as it is very cold this morning with the temperature sitting at -18.6 C | -1.48 F. It’s the coldest morning so far this winter. Things were crunchy when I went out to put some wood in my shop stove. Highway 522 is bare and dry for most parts, with a few icy sections throughout. Travelling should be fair today other than putting up with the cold. It would be a good idea to put a heavy blanket in your car and keep your CAA number handy just in case. You never know what might happen in this part of the country. Yesterday I worked on a Christmas show for my podcast and will continue on with it today. It’s too cold to be outside today. I might bundle up and go for a quick walk around the paths I made on our property. For some exercise. I will see how ambitious I am later on. Other than that not much happening in and around town these days. Folks I suspect are getting ready for Christmas which isn’t that far off. It’s amazing how fast this year has gone by. With that I am off for a cup of tea with my lovely wife, and will then see what the day has in store. Life’s a mystery. Take care, stay safe and look after yourselves, family and friends. And most of all … stay out of the crowded stores and don’t have company come over. Talk on the phone or ?

Morning Chat Dec 14/2020

Good Morning! It looks like the heavy snow has passed us by for now, here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We did however have around 10 inches or so in the last two days. I have to admit my wife and I did have a work out. But it does keep us fit if we don’t over do things. It is easier on me this year having my friend Kerry Booth clean our driveway for us. We have done it for years but are finding it is just too much for us now. So the answer to that is. “Get some help.” LOL Which we did. We still have lots to do though, along with helping our neighbour who is in her 90s. Highway 522 was bare this morning, but now we are getting some more snow and the highway is covered once again. And along with that there are icy sections on the turns and places where care should be taken. Yesterday my lovely wife and I cleaned up our snow, which took most of the day and today we will take it a bit easy. Give ourselves some rest. I might work on a podcast that I have in the works. I will see if the urge hits. With that I am off for a bowl of cereal and then will let the day do as it so chooses. Take care, stay safe and do what’s right to protect yourself, family and friends.

Morning Chat Dec 12/2020

Hi Folks. It’s another cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We are also having a bit of snow which will continue all day, tonight and into tomorrow. We can expect around 15 to 25 cm or near 10 inches of snow this weekend. Snow will begin this morning, but the heaviest snow is expected in the afternoon and evening hours when snowfall rates of 2 to 3 cm per hour will be possible. Gusty northeast winds to 60 km/h will combine with fresh snow to create blowing and drifting snow, particularly in exposed areas. For areas near and south of North Bay, freezing rain is also a possibility tonight. So … knowing that I would think it would be a good day to stay home, and hey! Maybe put up your Christmas tree, that is if you haven’t already. That is what my wife is going to do today at our home. The temperature is hovering around -2.4 C | 27.68 F. Cooler than it was yesterday, but still not too bad for this time of year. Highway 522 is slowly getting a cover of snow, and I suspect it will get much worse as the day moves forward with this storm in our midst. Today I will take it a bit easy, Not feeling the greatest. So with that I am off for a cup of tea with my lovely wife, and will then enjoy the day for what it is. Take care, Stay Safe and do what’s necessary to protect yourself, family and friends with this virus. GW

Episode 51: Girls

Episode 51: Good morning folks. Today I have a story lined up for you … that I am hoping, won’t upset some female species. I suppose the only way to find out, is for you to give it a listen. If I might suggest … it would be in your best interest to listen right to the end. Have a great day, and stay safe.

Morning Chat Dec 11/2020

Good Morning!. It’s a cloudy day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We haven’t seen any sunshine now for around three days. The temperature though, has remained quite warm for this time of year sitting at 1.4 C | 34.52 F. It will start to cool down some as the day progresses’s. We also have a storm watch, for our area, and those around us, starting tomorrow. Snow will begin Saturday morning and last into Sunday. The heaviest snow is expected Saturday afternoon through Sunday morning. We can expect 10 to 25 cm or 4 to 10 Inches. I have no use for the metric system, as all that did was cost us a bundle of taxpayers’ money, along with other things I won’t get into. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning and should remain that way for most of the day. I would think if you’re in need of some groceries, or? This would be the day to get them. For my wife and I we have all we need for a few weeks. Which is a good thing to have on hand in this neck of the woods. Yesterday I didn’t do too much. Taking it easy. I have been keeping my woodworking shop stove going though, as it is nice to go out there when it is nice and warm. It also makes it nice having all my equipment warm and ready to use when I feel the urge. LOL I suspect my snow blower will be getting another work out on Sunday when this storm is finished. With that I am off for my morning cup of tea with my lovely wife and will then see what the day has in store. You never know. “Stay safe, protect each other, Love each other… but I think it is best not to get together this year for Christmas,” If we all do that, things will be a lot better for everyone, after Christmas And Hey! It isn’t for ever.

Morning Chat Dec 8/2020

Good Morning!. It’s a bit cloudy here in Port Loring, Ontario this morning. We should see some sunshine later on this morning. Yesterday after the clouds moved out of the area, we had a really nice day. I took advantage of it and brought a couple of wheelbarrow loads of dry pine I have in my bush for the shop stove. I don’t like burning up my nice dry hardwood, I save that for the wood furnace in the house. I then dug out a nice chopping blog I had lying around by the wood pile, which I planned on doing now for the past year or so. It never ceases to amaze me, how you know you should do something, but you never do it. The chopping block raises the wood up so you can split it easier, and it also is easier on the old back. LOL I then did a bit of work in the woodworking shop and later on in the day I did some work on a podcast I have on the go. There is always something to do. This morning I will do some more work in my shop, and then take it a bit easy in the afternoon. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning so that will make it nice for travelling. My wife and I don’t have to go anywhere for a couple of weeks, other than the post office. Which makes it nice as that way we don’t have to be around folks we don’t know. Best to be safe, then sorry with this virus among us. Other than that, not much happening in our small community these days. Now I am off for my morning cup of tea with my lovely wife and will then see what the day has in store. I just make the plans, the results … who knows. Take care, stay safe and do what’s right for yourself, family and friends. We are getting closer every day to the vaccine that hopefully starts to put an end to this mess we have been in for the past few months.

Open your eyes

Ontario is reporting an additional 138 cases in public schools across the province today, bringing the total in the last two weeks to 1,526 and 5,402 overall since school began.

And how many have they infected at home and other places?

Ah!!!!!! Do I need to say more? It doesn’t take a Philadelphia Lawyer to figure out what needs to be done. Since opening places like bars, churches, gyms and others. What has happened? Bottom line it all boils down to money, and votes, not what’s good for the people. But hey! That’s my opinion for what it’s worth.

Morning Chat Dec 7/2020

Good Morning! It’s another cloudy day starting things off here in Port Loring, Ontario Canada. We did have some sunshine later on in the day yesterday, and I suspect it will be about the same today. It is cold outside with the temperature sitting at -8.5 C | 16.7 F. It should warm up a wee bit as the day moves forward. Not much though, but if we do get some sunshine it will make it feel a lot nicer than it is. LOL. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning for most parts. There are some icy sections here and there … most, as I keep on saying going around the curves. You would think that would be the place they salt the most. LOL On another note my lovely wife put up some decorations outside and inside for Christmas. I have to say they do look nice, and they do get you in the spirit of Christmas. You know … I have been hearing a lot of folks saying that Christmas won’t be Christmas this year with this virus. Yes … that will be true for all those that have lost family members and friends. But Christmas in itself hasn’t changed. Not one bit. We all have exactly what we had last year, other than maybe doing a bit of shopping in the malls and visiting a wee bit. For my wife and I, even though we can’t see our boys, we are not going to let it get us down, not by a long shot. We will still have our Christmas tree, turkey dinner with all the trimmings and to top things off, we will be all watching our favourite movie National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation with Chevy Chase. My wife and I along with our boys have been watching that movie every Christmas since it came out. Kind of a tradition around here. It will however be a touch different this year though as we can’t be together totally. So what we will be doing is using our laptop along with the phone … setting them up, so we can all be chatting together watching the movie at the same time. Everything will be the same but different. My old Dad always told me when something isn’t right, make it right. That is what that thing is on your shoulders is for. LOL I miss that old feller. At any rate that is what we are going to do. Every day is what you make it. If you let this virus get the better of you … it will. My family and I choose not to let that happen. Where there is a will there is a way of doing things, no matter what. With that, I am off for my cup of tea with my lovely wife and will then see what our day has to offer. As I always say every day is like a mystery novel. You just never know what the ending will be. “Stay safe, protect each other, love each other… but don’t get together this Christmas,”
