Port Loring Ontario, Information

Good morning.  Nice looking day out there, shaping up to be a fine long weekend.   Temperatures waking up were sitting at…19.3 C | 66.74 F.  Will be a warm one as the day progresses.  Good day to keep the blinds or curtains closed a bit so, the house stays cool.  Also saves on the Hydro Bill as that isn’t cheap any-more.  Prices in my opinion…are way out of line.  As is our gas prices in this country.  Amazing how they can get away with it.   Anyway…

Forecast For Today:  Rather unsettled clearing later.

Bug Report:  I am happy to report that the mosquitoes have died down some as the dragon flies are cleaning them quite rapidly.  Normal amounts now surround us throughout the day and into the evening hours.  A few pesky deer flies and horseflies are still amongst us and will remain for the rest of the season till cooler weather returns.

Fishing Times:  The old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there today will be from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.  Again from 1:30 PM – 3:00 PM and once again from 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating for catching them in the early hours and a 3 fish rating out of 4 for catching them in the later hours.  I am thinking for the 24th Annual Poker Run, this year, it will be a super great day.  Have fun and good luck.ltss-0355

Around Town:   Not to much happening.  Farmers Market had it’s opening day.   We here at our small store had a great day with folks dropping by picking up items of choice.  Also noticed my flutes were selling quite well this year.  Early too, so that is a good sign of what is to come.  Right now we have a great selection of flutes and amongst them some wonderful sounding branch flutes, which are all one of a kind.  Amazing how beautiful they sound.  The nice thing is, that you don’t have to know how to read music to play the Native American Flute.  With in minutes one can make music that enhances ones most inner soul.  Also comes with full instructions, along with my expertise giving you a free lesson.  So my friends if your in need of some medicine that soothes the inner mind, drop by and take a look at what I have to offer. Of course we have lots of other items to choose from, the flutes are just the tip of the iceberg.   Have a great day.  GW

Port Loring Information

Good morning. Well some cloudy skies to start off the day here this morning.  But should see some sunshine a bit later.  Temperatures this morning waking up were sitting at…14.4 C | 57.92 F.  A touch Cool for this time of year coming into July.  Yesterday and through the night we had 19 mm of rain.  Should look after our gardens for a week or so, along with nature and our critter friends.

Forecast For Today:    Showery early, improving as the day moves forward.

Bug Report:   Pretty good out there right now with the cooler weather upon us. Mosquitoes are still a touch annoying, but the dragon flies are cleaning them up quite quickly when they make their appearance.

Fishing Times:  For those wanting to put some fish in the frying pan for supper the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from…9:00 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then again from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM.  I give it a 1 fish rating out of 4 for catching them this morning and a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them later on this afternoon.  Not the greatest, but if one perseveres they should catch enough for supper.  Good luck.

Around Town:  Still quite quiet around our small community.  Today though our Farmers Market is opening for the first time this year.  Should be a great event for sure, along with some tasty treats for those in need.  Be sure to take it in, as it is one of the last frontiers that we can go to freely and buy fresh produce and home made products.  Click Flyer to Enlarge for better viewing.  ltss-0357Have a great day my friends.  GW

Information In & Around Port Loring Ontario

Good morning folks.  Well waking up to some rain here this morning.  Much needed though, as my tomatoes were in need of a drink, along with nature herself.  Temperatures are sitting at 18.3 C | 64.94 F.  Will stay that way pretty much throughout the day.

Forecast For Today:  Stormy, much rain enriching the soil as needed. Ending later on this evening.

Bug Reports:  Mosquitoes are in abundance this morning as they just love this kind of weather.  Rain doesn’t hold them back neither, as if out, they will hide in your clothing and come right back inside with with ya.  Went out twice so far this morning bringing one in each time, or so the wife says.

Fishing Times:  Haven’t been out yet myself this year, just been to busy.  But thinking it should be put up higher on the list of things to do in the coming days.  Got the old boat ready to go though, motor is running like a clock after its rest all winter long.  Washed the boat itself and looks pretty good, inviting you might say.  Any ways…for those wanting to do some fishing today in spite of the rain, the old weather stick says the best time to be out there will be from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM.  Then one more time from 3:30 PM – 6:00 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  Not the greatest day to be out there with the rain and all.  But there are those that, weather isn’t a factor.  Good luck.

Around Town:  For those wanting an exact reading on their hydro bills here in Port Loring & District this is the day to read your meter.  Just take a reading and call it in.  You have to specify that you want this reading, not an estimated one, as they have a tendency of sending out estimated bills.  No reason for it neither.  Only takes a second which eliminates the not knowing.    For myself things like that plays on my mind. Over the years I have found if something bugs me a touch, I fix it so it doesn’t…right away.  On another note, with the rain and all it’s a good day to go to town for some groceries or items of interest if your in need.  That way you are home here to enjoy the nice weather, which will be upon us come tomorrow.  I hate missing a day of sunshine sitting in a car.

Enjoy your day my friends.

Happenings In & Around Port Loring Ontario

Good morning.  Well not a bad day.  Woke up to temperatures sitting at…18.7 C | 65.66 F.  Cloudy though and will remain so throughout the day with a bit of sunshine later on. Might get some rain through the night.

Forecast For Today:   Unsettled, probably improving later on.

Bug Report: Mosquitoes are out there for sure, but Dragonflies are cleaning them up pretty good.  Great to see them rascals.  There are a few small blackflies out there biting folks too.  Had a few bite me on the legs yesterday while working in my shop.  Pretty itchy too and one has to refrain from scratching, or they just get worse.  Good test for ones constitution.

Fishing Times:   Well this morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from12:00 PM – 3:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  So could just be your day for putting fish in the frying pan.  Good Luck.

Around Town: Not much happening in and around our district these days. Which in one way is a good thing, as that is what folks for most parts come here for….Quietness and Nature.  OK by me.  So my friends enjoy your day.  GW

Information & Things In & Around Port Loring Ontario

Good morning. Well this morning the sun is trying to make an appearance. Temperatures waking up were a touch cool sitting at…12.8 C | 55.04 F.  Being so nice and cool one can sleep like a log. Perfect weather one could say.

Forecast For Today:    Showery early, improving throughout the day.

Bug Report:   Well the only culprit out there annoying folks are the mosquitoes.  Had a camp fire going last night and it was pretty hard to get away from them.  Needles to say we called it a night after dark.  But had fun just the same.

Fishing Times:    This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then once again from 4:30 PM – 7:00 PM.  I give it a 1 fish rating out of 4 for catching them in the morning;  and then a 2 fish rating for catching them in the evening.  Not the greatest day but one just never knows.  Good luck.

Around Town: Very quiet to say the least.  Tourists are waiting to make their appearance in quantity, till after the kids are out of school, which isn’t to far off.  Things should change then.  We have been quite busy this year with improving things around our property, along with adding new products to our small store.  Native American Flutes has been our biggest seller, along with our books this year so far. Wife’s signs for cottages and places also has done quite well, with her always having one or two on the go. But then what can I say….she is a great Artist and does them up well with all kinds of scenes, as she does with all her paintings.  We are in hopes of having a numerous number of her paintings, sketches and originals for sale later on in the summer.  We also changed our sign our front which reads Northern Pine Gallery Of Fine Arts.  Thought that was fitting, as we are surrounded by our huge red pines.  Lovely spot we have here, so if your in the area drop by.

Happenings In & Around Port Loring Ontario

Good morning folks.  Well a bit cool out there this morning but sure is pleasant weather for sleeping and working.  Waking up temperatures were sitting at…9.8 C | 49.64 F.  Will warm up some though as the day moves forward.

Forecast For Today:   Fairly fine, possible showers early.

Bug Report:   Well things in this department have slowed down some.  Makes it better when bugs and humans get along.  Mosquitoes are still here of course and will be for the rest of the summer. Horse and deerflies will be with us also.  But for most parts the blackflies have left us for another year.  With fishing season upon us, makes it more enjoyable being out with nature, without being pestered to much by these creatures of annoyance.

Fishing Times:   Well this morning things are looking up a touch.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  The old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there today will be from 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM.  Again a bit later from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM.  Then one more time from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.  Should be able to put some fish on the table for supper today I would think.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Well our Farmers Market is nearing its yearly appearance.  Mike Buchanan from our LSB asked if I would update its arrival here on the Blog.  Mike is a great guy for sure and if your ever in the need for some construction work, or even a load of stone for your driveway, give him a call.  Great service, price and along with that, he knows his stuff. Information For Port Loring Ontario & District

Good morning.  Well a bit cooler this morning with temperatures sitting at…                    11.3 C | 52.34 F.  Forecast for today taken from our very own weather station is calling for it to be….Fairly fine, possible showers early then sunshine should be upon us with some warmer temperatures.

Fishing Times:    This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from….9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.  Then once again from 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.

Bug Report:  Mosquitoes are still quite bad especially if near the bush. Yesterday with the wind and some sunshine they were held back from their feeding habits upon us humans.  Was OK with me as I had my mowing to do.

Around Town:   Well it is that time of year with the Argyle Fish Enhancement..24th Annual Poker Run closing in on us.  For all the information please click flyer below to enlarge.  ltss-0360Enjoy your day my friends.

Port Loring Ontario, Canada Events & Things

Well good morning.  Hope all is well with everyone this morning.  Sun will slowly make an appearance as the day moves forward.  Temperatures are sitting at…16.7 C | 62.06 F waking up.

Forecast For Port Loring:    Unsettled, probably improving though as the day progresses.

Fishing Times:  For those wanting to head on out and catch a few today the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from11:00 AM –  12:30 PM.  Then again a bit later from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them in the morning and a 3 fish rating out of 4 for catching them in the afternoon.  Good luck.

Bug Report:   Well I don’t think there is any place right now that is escaping the wrath of them mosquitoes.  Kind of makes me think that what they were saying earlier, that the cold spring will eliminate most of them this year is a bit off.   As I can’t rightly say I have ever seen them this bad in the 11 years that we have lived here in Port Loring.  So we have to take it one day at a time.  Lets hope that sun makes its appearance quickly today which will slow them down some.  Mosquitoes like dark and cloudy days.

Around Town:   Lost Channel Inn here in our area has lots happening.  I received a flyer yesterday to be put on the  Blog here for all to take a look at.  Click Flyers To Enlarge for better viewing, of all the information relating to what is happening at there establishment.

Port Lorings Information Centre

Well rainy old morning here in Port Loring Ontario.  But I have to say my gardens needed it. One can water themselves, but it can’t be done as good and thorough as Mother Nature. Thinking my tomatoes grew a foot overnight.  Grass has slowed down some which is OK by me.  But this rain will bring it back to growing for a bit. Temperatures this morning waking up are sitting at….18.5 C | 65.3 F.

Forecast: Stormy, much rain off and on throughout the day.  Things will improve overnight and into tomorrow, with the return of the sunshine.

Bug Report:  Well blackflies are pretty much gone other than a few stragglers hanging around bugging folks.  Mosquitoes now are another story.  Yesterday they were out proceeding the rain in swarms.  Just couldn’t get away from them.  Even my shop was full of them blood sucking parasites.  Had to put my vest on so they wouldn’t be able to bite me through my shirt.  Hoping this isn’t the trend all summer long.  Once the sun comes out it will slow them down some.  Horseflies are here but not biting too much as yet, but Deerflies are becoming irritating.   Joys of the north.

Fishing Times:  Well this morning one might need an umbrella if going out fishing.  The old weather stick is saying though that the best time to be out there will be from…9:30 AM – 2:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  Good luck!

Around Town:    Well not much happening other than voting day here in our small community with folks heading out to the polls, trying to get their favourite candidate into power.  Should be interesting, this time round I am thinking.

Our Farmers Market is about ready to gear up for the summer, you can click the flyer to enlarge below for all the dates of when it will be starting and things. It was delivered to me yesterday. Great place to shop with and pick up them items your in need of without heading on into the city.  Also one is supporting those that work so hard to bring fresh produce and other items to you in an old but stable, healthy atmosphere.  It’s folks like yourself that keeps them alive.  Have a great day my friends and should also mention that if you have anything that you would like to be known by the public, send it along to me in and E-Mail at [email protected] or stop by the house here or you can call me at 705-757-1640. I will gladly add it for all to see.

Cottage Country, Port Loring Ontario, Canada

Morning Folks.  Nice looking day out there.  The rain yesterday that was thinking of coming into our area didn’t arrive.  Maybe a bit today, as our forecast for today is saying it will be…. Showery early, improving though throughout the day.  So thinking not much rain is in our presence at this time.  Temperatures waking up are sitting at…12.4 C | 54.32 F and will warm up a few more degrees a bit later.

Bug Report:  Finding the mosquitoes are quite bad this morning to start things off. Few pesky deerflies also are around.  Also a few blackflies are still annoying folks, but for most parts they are gone for another year.

Fishing Times:   Well this morning looking at the old weather stick and putting things together it seems that the best times to be out there will be from.. 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM then again from 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM an one more time later on from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them early in the day and a 3 out of 4 fish rating for catching them later on in the day.  So might pull in a few today.  Good luck!

Around Town:   See lots of tourists and cottage owners moving into the area these days.  Campers, Boats, 4 Wheelers you name it, all are making their appearance for another season.  Great to see them arriving each morning watching them go up and down the highway loaded with things to make their venture into the wilderness more fun and exciting.  For myself I can enjoy nature by sitting in an old chair, quietly taking in what she has to offer.  Guess that is a sign of one getting a touch older.  Not that old though.

Garden Report:   Things are growing quite rapidity these days.  Lettuce, spinach and pretty well all our herbs are being enjoyed each day now.  Tomatoes are starting to show off a bit, but could use a drink.  Was hoping for some rain but thinking now, that I might have to be their source of nourishment, water wise any ways.  Pumpkins an cucumbers are also doing well, along with the squash.  So great year for a garden.  Still not to late to get one started if your interested. Most places have plants already started and wouldn’t take much to get them to growing.  Might be a touch later for your tomatoes, and others with fruits, but still worth while planting.  Well guess that is it for this morning.  Heading out for my Dandelion tea, take in our surrounding scenes and breath in some of that fresh northern air.  Then see where the day brings us. Enjoy your day my friends, get some sunshine on that skin of yours.  No Doctors Needed.

In And Around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada

Good morning. Well another beauty of a day for sure.  Temperatures are sitting at…16.9 C | 62.42 F.  Will warm up even more as the day moves forward.

Forecast For Port Loring:  Changeable, mending.  Great day for sure.

Bug Report:  Blackflies are gone to some extent with only a few around.  Cooler weather fixed them.  Hoping they don’t make a come back.  But the worst is over.  Mosquitoes though are another story.  They are onto pestering folks to great extents.  But one has to learn not to put all those chemicals on ones skin as it draws them like a bee to honey.  Truth be known the chemicals that one puts on the body is far worse than the mosquitoes bite in itself.  But hey who am I?

Fishing Times:  For those wanting to do some fishing today the old weather stick along with my grandfathers formula is saying that the best time to be out there will be from 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM. Then once again from 4:00 PM – 7:30 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating for catching them in the earlier part of the day and a 4 out of 4 rating later on.  Should be a great day for jerking lips.  Good Luck!

News Around Town:    There is a Ride happening here in our area called… Forget Us Not Memorial Ride for Amber Booth.  For all the information pertaining the the Ride..Click the following Link.  It is a great web site, nicely put together and will explain everything in great detail.  Take a look…http://www.forgetusnotride.com/

Things Happening In & Around Port Loring

Good morning. Well a bit cloudy waking up. Forecast for today is calling for it to be…Stormy, much rain off and on throughout the day.  So we will see.  We could use some, as things are quite dry, even after such a wet spring.  Temperatures are sitting at..17.1 C | 62.78 F.  Will warm up a few more degrees as time marches on.

Bug Report:  Same as yesterday really. Blackflies and Mosquitoes have become quite annoying.  But as I announced yesterday, that the dragonflies have returned, so should make short work of them in the coming days.

Fishing Times:  For those wanting to do some fishing today, the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then a bit later from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM.   I give it a 3 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  So should be a good day for catching them.

Around Town:  Quiet this morning but will pick up in a bit.  Tourists are moving back in a little at time.  Blackflies are keeping a lot of campers and cottage owners at bay. But once they are gone folks will make their way to their favourite camp ground, resort or cottage.  Good to see them coming back each year. Could say I miss them.

On another note Trash and Treasures is open for another season.  Lots of great items for sale and a must see, if in the area.  Doris is back and it is always nice to see her.  This lady has done so much for our community behind the scenes more than one can imagine and should be commended on her actions.  Great Lady for sure.  You can say hello to her at Trash & Treasures most days throughout the week.  So why not drop by and say hello, along with that,ltss-0356 you will be supporting our Local Fire Department.  For all the information relating to Trash & Treasures Hours of Business click the following Flyer to Enlarge.  Enjoy your day my friends. Dragonflies Have Arrived

Well update to the Blog here.  Dragonflies have made their appearance a few minutes ago.  9:30 AM to be exact, at least that’s when they dropped by our home for a visit. They have landed you might say, as I just finished my cup of Dandelion Tea on the back deck and one landed on my arm while I was soaking up some sunshine.  Sat there for a few minutes looked at me and said…. “I am back my friend, I will now get to tending to them Blackflies and and Mosquitoes.  Great to see their arrival, as one of their main preys is Blackflies.  Enjoy & Protect  them my friends.  GW

Happenings In & Around Port Loring Ontario

Good morning.  Well a really nice looking day thus far.  Temperatures are sitting at….     17 C | 62.6 F.  Will warm up to where it was yesterday a bit later on. Forecast for today is calling for it to be….Stormy, much rain later on in the day and into tomorrow and Tuesday even. Going to get some rain which in reality is needed.  Amazing how things dry out so quickly.  Reason being it is mostly sandy soil in our area.  Mother nature looks after her own.  We as humans think we are so powerful, but if truth be known we are smaller than a gnat compared to our Mother…Earth.   Makes me smile when the so called Powers That Be….say. “This is the way it’s going to be.”

Bug Report:  Well…Black Flies and Mosquitoes are out in full force preying upon us warm blooded critters.  They aren’t real fussy neither, be it horses, dogs, cats, birds, deer or humans.  All a spring feast to them.  At any rate each day moves forward towards the end of the Black Flies and hoping the Mosquitoes fill their appetite and leave us humans alone a bit.  Of course then we have the horse flies and deer flies, along with the no see flies coming into the picture.  Kind of just have to take them one at at time.

Fishing Times:  Today the old weather stick, along with Grandfathers Formula, says that the best times to be out there fishing will be from 12:00 PM – 2:30 PM.  Then once again from 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM.  I give it a 1 fish rating for catching them early, with a 2 fish rating out of 4 later on in the day.  So not the greatest day for fishing, but as I always say…One just never knows when that big old Walleye might take a notion to have a snack.  Good luck!

Around Town:  Quiet here in town this morning.  Once again hardly a car going up or down Highway 522.  You know that tells me folks are staying home enjoying their time with their families.  Seems like a modest thing one can do.  Don’t you think?  My family lives so far apart, makes it a bit hard to communicate, but when we do see each other we make up in the Hug department let me tell ya.

Below I have added a couple flyer’s which might be of interest to folks.  Especially those looking for groceries in our area.  Click Flyer to enlarge…ltss-0353 ltss-0354

Bug Report:  Well Black Flies and Mosquitoes are out in full force to say the least.  Hard to get away from the Mosquitoes as they seem to like it anywhere.  Should have another couple weeks of the Black Flies and then they should be gone for the year.  Lets hope so any-ways.

News Around Town:  Quiet on this fine day.  Hardly a car moving up and down the highway.  Thinking everyone is sleeping in this morning.  Stores have been brisk with sales for most parts and should pick up even more as the tourists make their yearly transition to our area.  Cottages are being opened up for the year, along with day trippers on the rise.  Our store has been doing quite well this year with double the customers dropping in for a visit.  Good to see folks.  In our store this year we have a good quantity of new Native American Flutes and I am actually in the process of making a bunch more.  If your interested in buying a Flute drop by and I will give you a full demonstration on how they work.  Quite easy to learn actually.  Nice thing is, you don’t have to be able to read music to play them.  On another note my wife Ruth is steadily painting signs for folks with orders backing up.  Along with that she has her own paintings in the works and will soon be displaying numerous ones in our store for those that would like to purchase them.  Amazing artist this woman of mine. Wi-Fi Services In Our Canadian Parks

I see in the news today that Wi-Fi  will be added to our Canadian Parks agenda and formats.  For all the information click the following link    http://time.com/80472/canada-wifi-national-parks/    Will this be a good thing?  Some will say it is, for myself I am against Wi-Fi services, as I believe they are not good for ones health, or for that matter, the health of nature in itself.  Like other things that goes on in our country and others, these things are just done without considering what it does to our body or our environment..  My Opinion only.  GW

This bill had first reading in the house on June 18, 2009. It was seconded by Bob Rae! MP Ms Ruby Dhalla who introduced the bill represents the riding of Brampton whose population is mainly East Indian (i.e., Muslim). Right now you have to have lived in Canada for 10 years in order to qualify for Old Age Security. She wants the time reduced to 3 years. Thousands could come to Canada when they are 62 years old never having worked or contributed to this country’s tax system etc. and qualify for full Old Age Security benefits. 10 years minimum is reasonable – 3 is not!

Look this up Google C-428 and you will see this bill has only one purpose and that is to ‘featherbed’ a select group of people for votes.

I certainly hope this bill does not get passed. It is about time we called our
elected MP’s to ask them to NOT support this bill. Their response may be one factor in helping us determine who gets elected in the next election.
Keep on reading and then ACT!

What Can You Do?

1. Spread the message to family friends and e-mail buds.
2. Write letters send e-mails to all your list and call Members of Parliament

It is time Canada looked after it’s vets and long-term citizens before tossing OUR hard-earned money around on people who have no right to this money, never having paid taxes or contributed to our economy. If a family wishes to bring elderly relatives here and are willing to waive their own right to collect these funds in order that the elderly relatives can receive them … Fine.

Otherwise do not expect the Canadian taxpayers to do it.
There are too many people abusing the generosity of the Canadian people. We need to stop this NOW. We, our children and our grand children currently owe the global investment community over $500 billion dollars … The sum of our accumulated National Debt that is never publicized.

Canada Pensions… Only in Canada

* It is interesting to know that the federal Government of Canada allows :

a.. A monthly pension of : $1,890.00 to a simple refugee
b. plus: 580.00 in social aid
==========
A grand total of : $2,470.00 monthly
X 12 months
==========
$28,920.00 annual income

By comparison the Old Age Pension of a senior citizen who has contributed to the development of Our Beautiful Big Country during 40 or 50 years CANNOT receive more than :

a. Amount/month $1,012.00 in Old Age Pension and Guaranteed Income Supplement
x 12 months
============
$12,144.00 annual income

A difference of : $16,776.00 per year

* Perhaps our senior citizens should ask for the Status of Refugee
instead of applying for Old Age Pension.

* Let us send this message to as many Canadians as possible and maybe the allowance of refugee could then be reduced to $1,012.00 and that of our Canadian pensioners (who actually deserve it) raised to $2,470.00 per month…the money that they have been paying in income taxes for 40 or 50 years — INCREDIBLE NONSENSE !!!

OUR CANADIAN SENIOR CITIZENS DESERVE BETTER
