Good Morning!

And a fine morning it is. The sun is shinning, and it’s beginning to warm up nicely. We will be having three more days of summer weather before it starts to cool back down. So if you have things that need attending outside, today and the weekend is the time to be doing them. Pretty well all of our snow has left us, but there is a wee bit on the north side of things.

Yesterday, as the day before, my lovely wife and I have been steadily working outside trimming a few trees along with doing some raking. Today we will do the same. My wife loves her gardens. We did however take some time to relax in the sun and will do so once again today. We try and take advantage of any nice weather that is sent our way.

The grass is also starting to turn green, which is nice to see, and the Finches have returned for another year. We did buy a bag of Finch food while in town the other day. But I am not sure if it is any good, as the birds don’t seem to like it. Could be that it is too old. Par for the course these days, as everything you buy is far from being what it was like years ago. My wife and I do get a lot of enjoyment watching them throughout the year.

On another note, we have also noticed the buds starting on top of the Maple trees, so it won’t be long before we start to see the spring colours. They are as nice as the fall if you take the time to notice.

Other than that, not much going on in and around our small town. It’s not as it used to be, where everyone knew everyone. Now when you go to the store, nobody even says hello to you, other than from a few old timers. Progress is what they refer it to. Ha ha. But to be fair, there are a lot of newcomers to the area who don’t really know anyone, and coming from a city life, haven’t had much time to adjust to the rural way of life. Let’s hope they do, but I fear the majority won’t, given how much Canada has changed from its former self. Not entirely for the better, either, in my opinion.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal and will then see what the day has in store. Life is always a mystery.

Have a great day and stay safe. GW

How some of us northerners mark obstacles in and around our lakes and rivers. It gets your attention real quick, I grant them that.

Good Morning!

And it is a good morning, with the sunshine shinning down upon us and the temperature being like summer. And it will get a lot warmer as the day moves forward; and on Saturday it will become downright hot, with the temperature getting up to 82F/26C. Not complaining mind ya! But as I said, early next week things will start to cool back down to where a person will need to wear a jacket once again. And the cool weather will probably remain with us till May. But in saying that we do live in the north, so it is to be expected.

On another note, being so nice and needing a few things, my lovely wife and I decided to go to Powassan, a town that has a large grocery store about an hour from our home. The trip in was very nice weather wise. Today I will see about finishing up some outside work that needs attending, and after that we both might do some front porch sitting, taking in the much-needed sunshine which keeps us humans healthy. There again, our Powers That Be have manipulated our human brains to believe the sunshine is bad for us. At least for a lot of people, but there are a select few that can’t be swayed.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal this morning and pieced of toast. Have a great day. GW

What’s Happening on April 12/2023

I have found over the years being a farmer when it comes to our Powers That Be and a few others, that …….

Good Morning!

It’s a sunny morning here for a change and the temperature has risen a bit through the night with it sitting at 2.6 C | 36.68 F. Yea I know, it is still a touch cool, but that will be short-lived as the temperature will climb today to where it will feel like summer. Which is fine with me as I am ready to see green for a change other than white. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, which once again will make travelling good.

On another note, my lovely wife and I worked outside for most of the day cleaning out our lean-to where we store things in it for winter, and now it is ready for some firewood. We built it in a great location as the sun can beat on the wood in the morning and afternoon. We pile green wood in it in the spring and in the fall it is ready to burn. Can’t beat that. And with the price of oil, it makes it just that much better. Still amazes me how the Powers that be, have blinded most humans into believing things that aren’t true. Here in Canada they want us to switch from oil, propane, wood and gas to electric. What a joke that is. First off … we don’t have the capability of creating enough electricity to handle things if everyone did switch. Next, it is okay for us to sell our Coal and oil to other countries for a substantial amount of money on one hand, but on the other hand they don’t want us here at home to use it. The thing is, we here in Canada are a drop in the bucket compared to what other countries are using when it comes to these fossil fuels.

Now don’t get me wrong, I am all for helping Mother Nature, but there are ways we can make what we have now safe to use. We have the technology. It’s just a few that want their name up in lights. Well, they will get that, I guarantee it. These other countries are saying. Oh, my yes you’re right not using these resources that you have, in the meantime they are buying all they can get. Yes, it is a strange and amazing world, how easily human minds can be manipulated.

Okay, enough of that, I have had my rant for the day. Ha ha, On a better subject, I am off for some Waffles topped with a bit of Mike Clapperton’s World Best Maple Syrup. It is tasty! He won that title a few years back. Nice fellow too.

Have a great day. GW

What’s Happening on April 11/2023

Good Morning!

It’s a bit cloudy this morning, but on the bright side, it is a lot warmer than it has been, with it sitting at 6.9 C | 44.42 F. And it will warm up even more as the day progresses; and along with that the sunshine will return which will make it even nicer. Highway 522 that runs through our small town is bare and dry, which will make travelling very good today. Actually, travelling will be good all week, being that we are in for some summer weather starting today, and it will continue until Monday of next week. Then, however, things will cool back down some for a few days. So knowing that, if you have some outside work that needs doing, this is the time to be out there. Which my wife and I are planning on doing.

On another note, my lovely wife and I didn’t do all that much yesterday, or I should say I. didn’t. My wife however was busy cleaning the house, and doing the wash, seems the old saying a woman’s work is never done is so true. She is a worker, that one. This morning I woke up to her watering her plants, and she has a lot of them, let me tell you. If I built a green house, she would be able to fill it. The reason we have so many is they keep our air in the house fresh and clean all winter long, not to forget how nice they look.

With that, I am off for a bite to eat and will then head on outside. Just Because I Can!

Have a great day and stay safe. There is still a lot of sickness around. Even now, my wife and I still exercise care while entering crowded stores, or around a lot of people. It’s far better, in our opinion, than becoming ill. Others are free to do whatever they like.

What’s Happening On April 10/2023

Good Morning!

Starting things off, I hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. My wife and I did, with two of our sons dropping by for a couple of days. Which turned out nice, other than the weather being a touch cool. But the cold weather is about to lose its hold on us as, things are going to warm up a lot for the next week or so. We could see temperatures nearing the weekend, hovering around the 23C/75F mark. By the end of the week, our snow will be all gone and things should start to dry up. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, which will make travelling good for those heading back home, or having to pick up some groceries in the big cities. For my wife and I we’re okay with some leftovers from our turkey dinner on the weekend. I sometimes think that the second turkey dinner, using what was left over, tastes better than the initial meal itself. It could just be me.

On another note, yesterday and the day before with the family being here, I didn’t get much done other than a lot of talking. I did however get my new laptop and phone all sorted out that one of my sons gave me. It took them most of a day to get things all set up. But I should be all set now for another few years. My old phone gave up the ghost awhile back, loosing its sound. So a phone that you can’t hear ring isn’t all that good. Ha ha. And a laptop that is almost extinct isn’t all that good neither, or so my sons say. So knowing that, they got me another one. I have to tell you, it sure is nice, and will be even nicer for when we go on trips, as will be the new phone. It sure is nice having boys that know all there is to know, about these things, Ha ha.
All in all, we had a great weekend with every one getting together.

With that, I am off for a bite to eat that my lovely wife is making for me, and will then see what the day has in store. For sure, we will do some front porch sittin’ later on, breathing in some of our fresh northern air. Once it warms up some.

Stay safe and have a great day. GW

Good Morning!

For a change, we are having some sunshine waking up. However, it is still quite cool, with the temperature sitting at -4.5 C | 23.9 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward; and it will get even warmer after today, with the temperature getting up to near 68F/20C for a few days. That should get rid of what snow we have left. Which is fine with my wife and I, as we are looking forward to some front porch sittin’. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, which will make travelling good for those having to go anywhere, and I suspect a lot of folks will be travelling, being a holiday weekend.

Other than that, not much happening in and around our small community these days. But once the warmer weather moves in, so will the tourists, which will make the business’s happy. For my wife and I we take things as they come to us, one day at a time.

With that I am off for a bowl of shredded wheat and a piece of toast, that my lovely wife is putting together for me, and will then see what the day has in store.
Have a great day!

Good Morning!

For a change we are waking up to some sunshine which is sure nice. The temperature is still somewhat cool, sitting at 0.9 C | 33.62 F. It will have to warm up a lot more than that, if we want to get rid of the snow we have left. But the warmer weather is heading our way starting on Saturday, and it will continue getting warmer after that. So patience is in order for those of that are yearning for some front porch sitting. Highway 522 is bare and dry after our ice storm yesterday. We were lucky as the high winds we had didn’t knock out our power. They flickered off and on a few times, but that was it. We did have some large branches broken off of some of our large red pines, caused by the wind and ice. So we will have to clean them up, when it warms up.

On another note, Easter is almost upon us, which will make the working man somewhat happy, as they will have a day off from work. Other than most farmers, that is, as their chores needs to be done 7 days a week. My wife and I lived that lifestyle for most of our lives. Today, we don’t have the farms anymore, but we still have the country to wake up to every morning.

Two of our boys are coming for a visit this weekend, we see them two times a year. Living where we do, so far away from them, makes it difficult for us to see them on a regular basis. But we make the best of it.

Yesterday I did work a wee bit on my new mystery novel I have in the works and I probably will do the same today off and on. I do have a few things to do getting ready for our visitors that will be arriving sometime tomorrow.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal that my lovely wife is making for me.

Have a great day! GW

Good Morning!

As it might be a good morning in some ways, it sure isn’t weather wise. Overnight, we had thunderstorms rolling in from all directions, along with some severe lightning. Our old house was a shaking. Sure is amazing how powerful Mother Nature can be when she wants to be. The downside of things other than what I just mentioned, is that the temperature is hovering right around the freezing mark, -0.3 C | 31.46 F. Which is causing a lot of ice build up on all the trees and things. If the sun happens to come out, which I don’t think it will today, things will sure look pretty out there. We will have to wait and see how that pans out. Tomorrow, however, the sun will return and remain with us for a week or so, which will be nice. And things will start to warm up nicely by the weekend. I think in about a week, all of our snow will be gone. I hope so, as it’s been a long winter, not as cold as most, but just the same I am tired of it.

Highway 522 is mostly bare, but there are some icy sections throughout. My thinking is it would be a good day to stay home and wait till this storm runs its course.

On another note, I didn’t do all that much yesterday. My wife and I kind of took it easy, recouping from our trip to town on Monday. Today I will see if I can do some more work on my new Mystery Novel I have on the go.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal and a piece of toast that my lovely wife is making from me, and then I will see what the day has in store other than what I have planned.

Have a great day! GW

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy morning, waking up. The temperature at the time of this post was sitting at -0.8 C | 30.56 F. We could see some freezing rain later on today, but … we could also see some sunshine. The good news is that starting next week, things will really start to warm up, which makes me happy.

On another note, we sure had a miserable morning yesterday, waking up to a blizzard which amounted to another 4 inches of wet heavy snow. And of course it was a day that my wife and I had to go to town, as she had a dentist appointment. Which didn’t go too well, as she was put on antibiotics for seven days. After that, she has to go back to get it removed. They did try to remove it, giving here five needles, but the freezing wouldn’t take. So she wasn’t a happy camper, that’s for sure. She went through a lot. But not much we could do about it.

Once we had them out of our hair, we picked up a few groceries, and headed on home. Once home, we both went to bed. Between the snow we had to drive through and the dentist, we were all in but our shoelaces, and they were hanging out. Ha ha. The snow we did have however was gone for our trip home. At least something went well.

Today we will both take it easy. We need to get rested up as this weekend is when the Masters Golf Tournament starts. We never miss it. With all the beautiful flowers and green grass on the course, it gives us the feeling that spring is here. We look forward to it every spring.

With that I am off for a bowl of cereal that my lovely wife is putting together and will then see what the day has in store other than what we have planned.

Have a great day! GW

Good Morning!

It’s a sunny morning, waking up. Which is sure nice. However, even with the sunshine, it is still quite cold outside. The temperature climbing out of bed was sitting at -10.6 C | 12.92 F. It will warm up a touch above the freezing mark as the day moves forward. Tomorrow, though, we will see the temperature rise up even further to where a person could sit outside. And the remainder of the week it will get even warmer. Which by the end of the week ahead should get rid of most of our snow. I hope so, as I am sure tired of waking up to snow and cold every morning.

Yesterday I didn’t do all that much other than chat to my wife. She has had a problem with a tooth which is hurting her and being the weekend no dentists work so….. she has had to suffer it out and will have to till tomorrow. I will then take her to North Bay and see if we can find someone to fix the problem. It is hard to get things done these days. I am hoping we can find someone that will help. We will see.

With that I am off for my breakfast and after that I will see how things are going. Have a great day. GW

What’s Happening on March 31/2023

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy morning waking up, and along with that we are having a bit more snow. The snow will remain with us for most of the day. Kind of figures, as yesterday I had my snow tires removed for summer. But in saying that. My wife and I don’t have any plans on going anywhere for the next few days.

So here we are on the final day of March.
Well … time really seems to pass quickly these days.
In some respects, it’s a positive thing, but in other aspects, namely with regard to aging, I kind of wished it would slow down a little bit. But there is nothing much one can do about that. At least for now.

But you know!

I think the way we live and connect to our bodies will probably significantly change in a few years.
Right now Drug firms are working hard to maintain their positions, but I have a hunch they won’t be the ones that will protect us from illnesses, pollution, and a host of other problems.
Scientists will likely create a kind of human body that is resistant to such things.
Of course, this is just my own opinion.
Time will reveal all.

On a different subject, yesterday I worked on my next mystery novel once again.
I finished it, which is good news—at least for me.
Now it is checking it again and possibly making a few tweaks here and there. I’ll say that again – possibly making a lot of tweaks here and there.
I’ll have to wait and see how that turns out.
After that, it will be left in the hands of my readers.

With that, I am off for some pancakes with some fresh local Maple Syrup, that my lovely wife is preparing for me; which should give me the energy that I will be needing for the day.

Have a great day and stay safe. GW

What’s Happening on March 29/2023

I found that statement above to be true. But in saying that, my old Dad had a lot to do with who I am today. He taught me well. And I miss him!

Good Morning!

It’s another cloudy morning waking up, and it is still a touch cool with the temperature sitting at -1.3 C | 29.66 F. It will warm up a bit as the day moves forward. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, which will make travelling pretty good. For my wife and I we have what we need for now, so we will be staying put. On another note we are still burning wood for heat but in saying that we are getting low. I would think we have another four days left before we have to start burning some oil. We were hoping we wouldn’t have too, but such is life.

Yesterday I worked steadily on this new book I am putting together, and today will do the same. I almost have it finished. Once that is finished, I will get into editing it and then put it into Kindle Form and Paperback. There is a lot of work that goes into a book other than writing it. But so far all my books have paid off.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal or maybe some pancakes and then see what the day has in store. We were hoping to get some front porch sitting in yesterday, but the wind was too cold, and today don’t look or feel that much better. My wife and I are getting tired of seeing white instead of green when going outside. But there isn’t anything we can do about it, as Mother Nature does what she wants. At least for now. I say that as some countries are experimenting with different things, trying to change Mother Natures ways. Personally, I think that is a bad idea, as in doing so they could/will cause a whole mess of problems. Some think we have a problem now with our environment, well, let me tell ya. If these people keep playing with it, I shutter to think what is going to take place. Anyway ….

Have a great day. GW

Good Advice for a Tuesday Morning!

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy morning here in Northern Ontario. It’s also a bit cool, with the temperature sitting at -7 C | 19.4 F. The good news is it will warm up a lot as the day moves forward, and a bit later on this morning the sun will make itself known. Highway 522 is bare and dry, which will make travelling good today.

In saying that, my wife and I did make a trip to North Bay once again as we wanted to take advantage of a sale that was on. It’s about the only way we can afford anything nowadays. Ha ha. It was a touch cloudy when we left, but an hour into our drive, the sun came out and stayed with us for the remainder of the day. Can’t beat that.

While there, we picked up our lunch, but this time round we tried a new restaurant … the meal was just terrible! So bad we couldn’t eat it and had to throw it away. $30.00 down the drain. The worst part about it was that it was my wife’s birthday. I will have to make it up to her the next time in town. We have found though, that it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find good places to eat. The same thing is going on in some of our grocery stores these days. It amazes me that they can get away with it. I can understand it in part as … well, I won’t get into that, this morning. I am thinking most of you knows exactly what is going on without me elaborating on it.

Today I will continue on working away here at my desk, however if the sun does make its appearance, and it warms up some I might just do some front porch sittin’. We will see how that works out.

With that said, I am off for a Florida Grapefruit, a Raisin-bun and half a bowl of cereal that my lovely wife is making for me. Them Florida Grapefruit are delicious these days.

Have a great day! GW

What’s Happening on March 26/2023

My wife and I want to say……

It’s a cloudy morning here, waking up with the temperature sitting at -1.4 C | 29.48 F. Not all that bad considering where we live here in Northern Ontario, Highway 522 is partially snow covered this morning caused by the snow we had yesterday. Which amounted to about 4 inches or so. However, today the temperature will rise well above the freezing mark, which will melt a lot of what we did have. On the downside of the coin, the snow is quite heavy this time round. I am not sure if I will clean my driveway or not. I am kinda thinking Mother Nature put it there, why not let her take it away.

I will see how that goes after breakfast.

On another note, once again I worked away here on my new book I am writing and will do the same today. I like to keep at it while ideas, happenings and characters are fresh in my mind. And as I said before, I don’t want to be sitting inside once the warmer weather arrives, which isn’t that far off. I tend to think of fishing then more than writing then. Ha ha.

With that, I am off for some pancakes with an egg on top, along with a bit of Mike Clappertons World’s best, Maple Syrup that my lovely wife is preparing for me, and will then see what the day has in store. As a matter of fact, Mike is right in the ‘Thick of Things’, brewing up this year’s syrup.

Have a great day, make it a great day. GW

What’s Happening in and around our small town On March 25/2023

Pearls of Wisdom. My Old Dad used to say something like that years ago when things were bothering me. I sure miss having him around.

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy morning, waking up with the temperature sitting at -1.5 C | 29.3 F. With it hovering around the freezing mark, we could see some snow later on today. Highway 522 is bare and dry so far this morning,

On another note, my wife and I took a trip to North Bay yesterday to pick up some supplies. It was a great day weather wise with sunshine overhead both ways. The stores were also busy, and we also noticed that there are a few that are still wearing masks. Surprisingly, most were young, but in defence of us older folks, we did see a few of them as well. Which is a good thing, with all the sickness that is all around us these days. My wife and I are still wearing ours when going into stores, and places with a lot of people. We also keep a container of Clorox Wipes in the car to wipe things down when going and coming from stores, along with a wash cloth or two.

Some claim they have a right not to wear a mask, and I agree with them.
But we have the right to wear ours as well.

My wife and I have had enough issues going on for the past few months. After we picked up the things we needed, we had our lunch in our car while chatting about things, which a lot don’t do today. Actually, a very good friend of ours was talking about that, just the other day. I mentioned that could be why so many people’s marriage doesn’t last these days. He agreed. We then headed on home, taking in what nature had to offer. One thing about living where we do, we are surrounded by trees, lakes and streams. And it is always changing, in a good way.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal and a piece of toast this morning, and will then see what is in store. I probably will get back to working on this new novel I have in the works. Take care & have a Great Day!!

What’s Happening On March 24/2023

Good Morning!

It’s a sunny morning here for a change, with the temperature sitting at -6.2 C | 20.84 F. It will also get warmer as the day moves forward. However, tomorrow we could see some more snow, with another storm heading our way. Kinda depends on which way it tracks, along with how warm it gets. If the temperatures rise, the storm will be mostly rain. If the temperatures hang in around the freezing mark, we will get snow. So it’s hard to determine what we will be getting. But it is that time of the year, being in transition, that we can expect just about anything weather wise. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, which will make travelling good for those having to go to the big cities for groceries. Joys of living in the sticks. And the prices some of these companies are demanding for things, along with the high cost of gas/fuel oil, makes the situation worse.

It always amazes me how we are misled into doing things we shouldn’t be doing.
They are also doing a terrific job of influencing the way we think.
They offer you a little something to get you on their side and agree with them, then they take it away, and everyone is pleased.

Again … it makes me shake my head in a not so good way. But it has been happening from the beginning of time. These leaders, they like to call themselves, know exactly what they are doing, don’t kid yourself.

They say on the news, day in and day out; “I am here to help you.” I say, “THAT’S THE PROBLEM!”

Anyway, that’s my rant for this morning, ha ha. Have a great day. GW

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy morning, waking up. We are also having a wee bit of rain. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 3.3 C | 37.94 F, The winds have switched from the North to the South West which in turn will usher in some warmer weather. I have to admit that it has been a struggle for old Mother Nature getting things in order for summer. It will warm up more as the day moves forward. We could get up to almost 45 °F/7 °C, which will definitely get rid of a lot more ice/snow. And if things goes to plan, we might see a bit of sunshine later on today. The lakes, rivers and streams are melting fast these days, so it’s not a good idea to be crossing them with snowmobiles. It’s time to put them away!! … And bring out your ATV’s.

On another note, once again I worked steadily all day yesterday on a new novel I have on the go, and will continue on with it today. I am closing in on the ending now, setting things up for the next one. But I won’t start it till next winter. I don’t want to be sitting in the house in front of a computer when the weather is nice.

With that, I am off for some pancakes that my lovely wife is making for me, and will then see what the day has in store. Life is a mystery, that’s for sure. But … I like it that way.

Have a great day.

Breakfast Time? One asks.

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy morning here, waking up. The sun was out earlier with a red sky, so … I am thinking we could see some rain. Red sky in the morning, Sailors take warning. But, we could use some rain, and if you mix it in with some warmer temperatures, which we are going to have today, we should get rid of some more snow. Which is fine with me, as I am looking forward to some front porch sitting; looking at green instead of white. The highway is bare and dry for now, which will make travelling good. Although in saying that there are a lot of deer roaming around close to the highways these days. Where you see one, there is more, so it would be in your best interest to keep your eye’s peeled, when out and about. “Eyes Peeled?” It’s an old saying thought up many years ago.

On another note, yesterday I worked away on the first of a series of Mystery/Sci-fi books, and I expect I will do the same today.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal that my Lovely Wife is preparing for me. Have a great day! GW

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy Tuesday morning here in Ontario, Canada, and the temperature was sitting at -5.1 C | 22.82 F. It will warm up a bit more as the day progresses. And tomorrow it will be even warmer. Later on today we should see a bit of sunshine, and if my lovely wife and I can find a place out of the wind and snow, we might do some front porch sitting, which would be nice. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, but we did have around an inch of new snow overnight.

Yesterday I worked once again on my new Mystery / Sci-fi Novel, and today, hopefully, will do the same. You never know what a day might bring when it comes to writing. Some days the words flow with no effort at all, and other days it feels like you couldn’t string a sentence together to save your life. The main thing though is to keep writing. You know, I’ve also found that some days what I write seems to have no meaning at all. Then, when I go back over it, a day or so later, I see all kinds of good properties in it. Occasionally ‘another story is born.’ If there is one thing I have learned over the years, when it comes to writing: “Never discard anything you write, no matter how bad it seems.

Our snow hasn’t melted much with it being so cold, but it should start now with the warm weather starting to show itself. We didn’t have any new snow overnight, which is fine with me.

On another note, yesterday I did manage to get a full day working on my new Mystery Novel, and if things work out I will do the same today. We will see how that goes.

Other than that, not much else happening in and around our small town these days. It won’t be long though before the town folks wake up. Most in Port Loring are like the Groundhogs, they hibernate for the winter. Including my wife and I.
Have a great day and stay safe. GW
