Port Loring Information, Fishing Times & Tips Along With the Weather.

Good Morning:   Well another day is lurking in the wings.  Always wonder with excitement where the day will bring us humans.  Waking up temperatures were sitting at 14.1 C | 57.38 F.  A bit cool for this time of year but one sure couldn’t find any better sleeping weather.  Things will warm up though as the day moves forward.

Forecast For Today:   Changeable, mending is the trend.

Bug Report:  Was a great day yesterday in amongst our pesky friends.  Not hardly a one out there annoying anyone.  Today will have to see  how it goes as things warm up with the sun starting to show herself.

Fishing Times & Tips:   This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there fishing will be from 7:30 AM- 10:00 AM.  Then once again from 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM.  I give both times a 2 out of 4 fish rating for catching them.  Things will improve drasticly  nearing the weekend.  What could be better with a holiday on the horizon.  Today I don’t recommend any lure only fresh live bait.  Minnows would be my choice if going out.   Put one on your hook, let settle to to the bottom and get ready.  I am thinking this morning that Pickerel and Large Mouth Bass will be what is biting.  Don’t forget that there is no better place to buy your bait than Gohm’s Bait &Tackle. This bait and tackle shop offers convenience as they are open year round.  Reg the owner has all the supplies needed for a successful fishing trip.  Stop by and see Reg, as there is no nicer fellow in and around Port Loring Ontario.

Around Town:   Very quiet around town at the moment, but I am thinking it is a lull before the storm, as with the long weekend closing in on us, a whole new crowd of folks are waiting to head into the area.  And why shouldn’t they? As in my mind, there is no nicer place to take ones holidays than right here in Port Loring Ontario.  Scenery that is mind boggling, rivers and lakes filled with fish of all kinds, just waiting for someone to throw a line in the water, along with that we have places of business just waiting to serve you.  Not to forget all the serenity, solitude and fresh air that Mother Nature has to offer.  Would also like to mention once again that our Cornfest is fast approaching, which is another great event too, one that no one should miss. Lots of entertainment and one might say a really nice social outing for all walks of life to enjoy.  Young or Old.  You won’t want to miss it.  Click Flyer below for better viewing..ltss-0362

Port Loring Information, Weather Report, Fishing Times & Tips

Good Morning:   Well another cloudy day here in Port Loring. Rain looks threatening but have to see how it goes as the progresses.   Waking up temperatures were a touch cool sitting at…13.9 C | 57.02 F.

Forecast For Today:    Showery early, improving.

Bug Report:   Few Mosquitoes around and a Deer Fly or two.  Not so bad this time of year but with all the wet weather they could get a bit irritating once the sun comes out and warms things up.

Fishing Times & Tips:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from…8:00 AM – 12:30 PM.  Then a bit later from 3:30 PM – 6:30 PM.  I give it a 1 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  Not the greatest but one never knows.  Another lure that one might give a try would be a Mepps Comet Spinner.  Myself I like the yellow one with black dots, with a single hook.  Size would be..#2 –  1/6 oz.  You can use this lure anyway you can think of, Trolling, Casting, what ever you want.  You should though add a bit of bait to it just to entice what ever is lurking near by.  137618

Around Town:   Well Market day is upon us here in Port Loring this morning.  Great place to put on your list of places to visit.  Don’t forget all the other stores though, as we have gift shops, some quite unique with one of a kind items like our own.  Trash and Treasures and lots more. There is also two very nice restaurants that one can eat at, with a great atmosphere and  friendly service that serve you can’t be beat. Seek them out my friends, as the rewards are in abundance.  Click The Flyer Below to view all the information relating to the Farmers Market.  Also our Cornfest is closing in on us and you can click on that flyer below also, for all the details pertaining to it too.    And Not to forget Trash & Treasures.

Port Loring Information, Weather, Fishing Times & Tips

Good Morning:   Well cloudy looking day out there once again.   Some sunshine though will break through now and then but temperatures will remain somewhat cool.  Waking up this morning temperatures were sitting at..11.3 C | 52.34 F.  The long weekend though is looking good so far.

Forecast For Today:   Rather unsettled clearing later.  Taken from our very own weather station located right here in Port Loring… Click Link for all information relating to our weather…http://www.loringlsb.ca/weather-station/

Bug Report:   Hardly any flying around.  With this cool wet weather they stay hidden.  Which is OK by me.

Fishing Times & Tips:      This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from…6:00 AM – 9:30 AM.  Then once again from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM.  I give it a 1 fish rating out of 4 this morning and a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them this afternoon.  Not the greatest weather to say the least but things will improve I promise.  The lure of the day through my estimation would be the..Panther Martin Regular Spinner.  It weighs in at..3/8 oz. The  rotation it makes creates vibrations which sends out hydro-sonic waves that “call to the fish”, even when they can’t see them. Gold in colour would be my choice. Price for these lures are very reasonable too as you can pick them up for around $5.00 or so.  Great lure for sure, one of the greats and everyone should have one in their tackle box.  Add a piece of worm or a leach to the end and I am sure that you will be eating fish for supper.  Click Picture to Enlarge for Better Viewing.   Good Luck!  112519

Around Town:   With it being so cool and wet folks are kind of staying in.  Also this time of year there is a transition taking place.  The folks that took their holidays from work in July are all heading back home, back to their normal routine.  The second batch now is gearing up for August…which in my opinion is the greatest month of the year for enjoying the north.  So we will just have to set back and see what develops.  Today I will get too thinning the pumpkins and squash, as they are over grown in leaves this year.  Some leaves are needed to shade the main plants, but to many leaves as we have this year, doesn’t allow the sun to penetrate to the produce, reducing the potential the pumpkins themselves have to offer.  So that should keep me busy for awhile.  One just never knows what a  day might present to a fellow or gal and I am sure more is intended.

Port Loring Information, Weather, Fishing Times & Tips

Good Morning:    Hope all is well on this fine Monday morning.  Don’t know why, but I always enjoy Mondays.  Maybe it is because it’s the beginning of a new week and all is just waiting to be examined and choices can be made as one chooses.  Waking up it was a touch cool here in Port Loring this morning with temperatures sitting at…10.9 C | 51.62 F Well below normal for this time of year.  But things will warm up some in the coming days.

Forecast For Today:  Showery early, improving, taken from our very own weather station right here in Port Loring Ontario.  You can click this link to view all the details…http://www.loringlsb.ca/weather-station/

Bug Report:   Not much flying around out there with the cool weather this morning, but as things warm up so will the insects.  But not enough to bother folks.

Fishing Times & Tips:  This morning looking at the old weather stick and taking everything into consideration, the best times to be out there will be from 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM.  Then again a bit later from 2:00 PM – 5:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them this morning and a 3 fish rating out of 4 this afternoon.  So things will improve as the day moves forward.  My lure of the day which I would defiantly give a try would be.. A Williams Trophy I & Trophy II .  They come in two sizes…Trophy I being 1/2 oz. and 2″in length.  Trophy II being 3/4 oz and  2-1/2″ long.  I myself prefer the 2″.  With this lure you can cast to where you like, preferably near some lilly pads, stump or shore and without a doubt if there is a nice Large Mouth Bass, Pickerel, (my favourite) or a Pike;  what ever it be, you will have fish for supper.  Also the Water Lilies are out in bloom this time of year which makes fishing even better.  112979You can usually purchase this lure From $5.99  & up. Click Picture To Enlarge for better viewing.  Good Luck!

Around Town:    Not too much going on to start off our week.  I did manage to get to North Bay yesterday to pick up a few things of need.  Sure is a pleasant drive with all of nature surrounding an individual.  I enjoy the drive as much as the time there, almost.  Lots of folks in the stores I noticed, which is a good sign of how our economy is doing.  We visited our son Karl while there and he took us out to Swiss Chalet for supper.  I have to say it sure was tasty with some great service.  Only thing I noticed was…that folks coming in… if not stopped likes to walk right to the front of the line.  Twice it happened and for most parts they showed no remorse what’s so ever when told to move back to the end of the line.  Thing was that most of these folks should know better being my age or better.  Not sure where their minds are today and to my reasoning…it is just being Discourteous, plain and simply.  Other than that though, we had a great time visiting our son, a great meal, along with a great day out and about doing what one enjoys.

Port Loring Ontario, News, Weather, Fishing Times & Tips

Good Morning:   Had  some rain through the night around 5mm.  Cloudy waking up with a touch of sunshine.  Temperatures were sitting at…17.6 C | 63.68 F.

Forecast For Today:    Well most won’t like this forecast as it is saying it will be… Stormy, much rain.  But I am thinking we might have some sunshine now and then depending which way these storms that are passing through choose to go.  Lets hope so.

Bug Report:  Nothing to report in all sincerity yesterday there wasn’t any to speak of out there bothering folks.  So no should have any complaints in that department.  If so remove any make-up or perfume from the skin.  Good old white Ivory soap is what one should be using.  You can’t beat it.

Fishing Times & Tips:   This morning the old weather stick of course is saying rain, but putting things together for fishing it is saying that the best time to be out there will be from11:30 AM – 2:00 PM.  Then a bit later on from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.  One should carry a rain coat if heading out.  Also should keep an eye on the sky for lightning, which could occur with today’s forecast. I give it a 1 fish rating out of 4 for catching them this morning and a 2 fish rating this afternoon, providing the rain holds off.  Not the greatest but one just never knows where that nice large mouth bass is lurking.  If I had to pick from my tackle box today, I would be using my…Yellow Perch Jointed Crankbait .  This is a very good piece of equipment to use to say the least. Especially on cloudy days like today and in the dark waters of the north.   The only thing is…they aren’t the cheapest to buy.  They can range anywhere from $10.00 – $16.49 each.  The one I use is Florescent/Matte and looks similar to the picture below and is 2-7/8 inches long. The one in the picture is a deep diver. I prefer a shallow diver.  Click Picture To Enlarge.  Good Luck! 143690

Around Town:  Quiet for a Sunday morning. But then that is to be expected weather being as it is.  I suspect if the sun shows itself so will us humans.  The sun has a way of making folks happy and healthy if taken into ones body through the skin and eyes.  Today though for a lot of folks their minds have been swayed into believing the sun is bad for them.  Nothing is further from the truth.  My Opinion Only of course.  But in saying that I do have a lot of knowledge pertaining to what I am saying.  One should be trying to get out into the sun exposing some skin for the minimum of a half hour each day.  An hour is much much better.  For those that burn easily ease into the sun a little at a time. If you burn you are lacking good nutrition, what is needed for good health in ones body…simple as that.  If you soak up the sunshine through the summer months no flu shot will be needed come fall.   But there again…My Opinion Only.

Port Loring Ontario, Weather, Information, Fishing Times & Tips

So how you all doing on this fine Saturday Morning?   Hope you are all healthy and enjoying the summer.  Some sunshine waking up this morning with temperatures sitting at…17.3 C | 63.14 F.  Clouding up a touch as I type.

Forecast For Today:   Rain, very unsettled throughout the day.  Will see sunshine I am thinking off and on with a chance of a thunderstorm. All depends on which course they choose to take as there is a few different storms out there right now crossing Ontario.

Bug Report:    Have to say it is really nice out there pertaining to insects of all kinds.  I worked out on my back deck yesterday all day and never seen anything other than one or two pesky deerflies, which left after they found out I wasn’t interested in their shenanigans.

Fishing Times & Tips:   Today if heading out one should makes sure they take along a rain coat.  The old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 7:30 AM – 11:00 AM and once again from 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 4 for catching them, this morning and this afternoon.  Great day for catching them providing weather plays along with ones intentions.   The fishing lure I recommend today is a Canadian Wiggler Hollow Brass Lure.  This lure is great for casting, trolling and spin casting.  You can also try a bit of worm on the end of it, as an extra tease for that large Pickerel, Pike or Bass that is just a bit finicky on biting.   On a cloudy day in dark waters a lure that is easy to see is a must and this Silver Shiner 2-3/8 inches long is just the lure to catch their attention. If you don’t have this lure in your tackle box a live shiner hooked correctly, just in front of its top back fin, should also show great results.  Then next time in town see about getting one.  They sell for under $10.00.  Click Picture to enlarge…143469  Good Luck!

Around Town:   Well seems a bit quiet this morning here in Port Loring this morning.  Not too many cars moving up and down highway 522.  I have to say I haven’t seen as many campers moving into our area this year.  But there are quite a few I noticed in our Government Parks.  So at the very least folks are out and about  enjoying nature.  Here in Ontario we have a short season and one sure has to take advantage of it while they can.  July wasn’t the greatest weather wise I know, but August my friends…you don’t want to miss what we have to offer here in the North.  No where is it more restful and healthy relating to fresh air and solitude; which we have in abundance, just waiting for you here in Port Loring.  Some say our town is the best kept secret in all of Canada.

On another note my very good friend Carrie Rogers dropped by the other day riding her horse Rhythm.  I have to say Rhythm is sure a beauty to say the least.  We had a great chat and she asked if I would like to take a ride.  I wasn’t about to say no.  Been a few years since I sat a horse, but once up on top memories of years past came rushing back.  Great feeling for sure as my own horse, Jennie, many years ago, was almost identical, other than being a touch smaller.  I can’t thank Carrie enough, for giving me the chance, to once again feel what it is like to ride one of the most amazing creatures that our world has to offer.  Of course we took a few pictures of, Rhythm, Carrie & myself. Port Loring Weather, Information, Fishing Times & Tips

Good Morning:   Well not so bad a morning so far.  Waking up temperatures were sitting at… 14.2 C | 57.56 F and will warm up in a bit.

Forecast For Today:   Showery early, then improving and should see some sunshine a bit later on.

Bug Report:   Pretty good out there these days other than a few mosquitoes and deerflies.  The mosquitoes are more of a pest in the evening hours.  One at least can enjoy their day now without being pestered to much.

Fishing Times:   This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from…9:30 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then once again from 2:00 PM – 5:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them this morning and a 3 fish rating out of 4 this afternoon.  Today I would recommend a Frog Lure.  If your into Bass Fishing this one should get a few into the boat for you.  Cast out to some lilly pads and let set.  If there is a Bass around it  won’t be able to resist. These can be picked up for under $10.00.  Don’t add any weight to your line, use as is.   Click Pictures To Enlarge…Screen-Shot-2013-07-29-at-5.27.13-PM Tournament Frog  Good Luck.

Port Loring Information, Weather, FIshing Times & Tips

Good Morning:   Well not a bad day by the looks of things waking up.  Sun was shinning and hardly a cloud in the sky.  A touch cool but nice with temperatures sitting at…12.2 C | 53.96 F.

Forecast For Today:  Fairly fine, possible showers early.  Things will warm up some as the day progresses and humidity will be not so bad. Wind has died down to almost nil thus far this morning. So all and all a great day.

Bug Report:   Great day to do almost anything outside, other than a few mosquitoes and deerflies bugging you once in awhile.  But not so bad that one can’t enjoy mother nature to the fullest.  Great time to go camping, hiking, fishing or what ever you choose to do.  Enjoy the summer my friends it is moving on quite quickly.

Fishing Times:  For those wanting to do some fishing today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 7:30 AM – 11:00 AM.  Then again from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM and one more time from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them this morning.  A 3 fish rating out of 4 for catching them this afternoon and a 4 fish rating for catching them shortly after supper. As you can see things are improving as the day progresses.  Today I recommend a Hula Popper 3/16 ounce in weight with small size hooks. 25-HulaPopper-288x133 Once all hooked up, cast to within a foot or two of the shore line or a touch closer to lilly pads, stumps or other obstructions, as usually that is where the big ones are lurking.  Soon as the Popper hits the water about two seconds later give it a quick tug, You will hear it pop. Then slowly bring it in. If no luck try again.  If still no luck after ten or fifteen minutes, move on to another spot. No use wasting time in a spot where they aren’t. Oh and no added weight to your line, just the Hula Popper on its own is sufficient.   Click Picture To Enlarge.  The picture is a just a suggestion in colour, myself I would go for one a bit on the greener side.  Good luck.

Around Town:   Yesterday with the market taking place I found our store quite busy with sales.  Was a great day for sure with folks out an about doing what they enjoy.  Of course, weather could have been a touch warmer, but by the end of the day things did just that.  Still not as busy as it has been in the past years, but not so bad that one can complain.  As if that would do any good.  So my friends I am off to thin out my tomatoes, as with all the rainy weather they have taken to growing tops.  If not thinned, the tomato crop will be immensely reduced.  We love tomatoes, so can’t let that happen.  Only takes a half a day and well worth the work one has to put into it.  Enjoy your day my friends.

Port Loring Ontario, News, Weather & Fishing Times

Good Morning:  Well a bit cloud here this morning starting off.  Also a bit cooler which is OK by me.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at…15 C | 59 F.  I found around 10:00 PM things cooled off last night and made it nice for sleeping.  Winds also have switched from the SSW to the North this morning. Reason why it has cooled down some.

Bug Report:  With all the wind yesterday there wasn’t a bug around.  Was quite nice sitting out on my front porch.  Nothing like front porch sittin’ takin’ in what Mother Nature has to offer.

Forecast For Today:  Showery early, improving.   Thinking August will be a bit cooler, nice though, with lots of sunshine.

Fishing Report:   Today using data from the old weather stick and my Grandfather’s notes of years past it is saying that the best time to be out there will be from…8:30 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then later on from 4:00 PM – 7:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 this morning and a 3 rating out of 4 this afternoon.  Tackle I recommend today for bringing them is a Rapala, Original Floater 3½-inch along with a Shallow Diver. 3-OriginalFlooater-288x106Once you attach it to the end of your line, cast towards a stump or weed bed, don’t be in a rush in bringing it back in. Wait a minute or two, then slowly give it a wee tug. If there is a Large Mouth Bass, Pickerel or Pike lurking around…it’s yours. If no luck the first time, keep on trying.  Good luck.

Around Town: Have a note from Mike Buchanan this morning.

Swim Program – Update
Stage One is the acceptance to the Partnership Application with Red Cross.
After the above is accepted we are planning on an August 5 Registration date. Location will be at the Government docks at 10:00am.
More detail to follow…..please keep checking website for updates.
Thank you for your patience with this process.

On another note, lots of cars running up and down Highway 522 these days. Folks are out and about enjoying the water and taking in their favourite camping grounds to the fullest.    This morning is Market Day here in our Community and you won’t want to miss it.  While on route either there or back stop off at one of our gift shops, restaurants or other stores and have a look around.  I think you will be immensely happy you did.  Some of our stores are small but only in size, as in quality we are huge. Port Loring, Weather, Fishing Times & Information

Good Morning:   Well had some sunshine earlier and will get more in awhile.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at…21.1 C | 69.98 F.  A few lingering clouds is upon us at the moment.

Forecast For Today:   Showery early, improving as the day progresses.

Bug Report:   Few Mosquitoes and Deerflies around but nothing to get upset about.

Fishing Times:   Today the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from 9:30 AM – 1:00 PM.  Then a bit later from 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  superflash_62_lToday I would recommend one of many Dardevle lures.  They come in all colours sliver being my choice.  Attach a bit of worm to the end, cast and bring in slowly.  Should be able to hook on a nice Pickerel or Large Mouth Bass. Click Picture to enlarge.  Good Luck.

Around Town:   I see more tourists looking us over here in Port Loring.  Our small store has been steadily busy with folks dropping by.  Also a few resorts saying that they are doing quite well.  So all and all not so bad this year.  Seems it is always a bit slow starting off but then gets into full swing nearing August.  Lots to do around the house here for myself.  Gardens are doing great this year and can’t see the earth for coverage of plants.  Good sign.  Also pumpkins have been running for the past few weeks along with the squash with tons of blossoms and lots of produce now showing up just behind those blossoms.  Corn is also doing quite well and looks exceptionally healthy this year along with tomatoes, herbs, lettuce, zucchini, and red peppers.  Not to forget the Kale.  No complaints in the veggie department this year so far.

Also don’t forget that tomorrow is.. Market Day.  For all the information take a look at the flyer below.  Click to enlarge. ltss-0357

Port Loring Ontario, News, Weather & Fishing Info

Good morning.  Well a bit cloudy here this morning.  Had a few showers through the night no accumulations to speak of. Temperatures waking up were sitting at…17.7 C | 63.86 F.

Forecast For Today:    Fairly fine, possible showers early to start things off.  Should see some sunshine a bit later as things progress’s.  Hope so as we sure need it.

Bug Report:  Well…the more things change, the more they remain the same.  Mosquitoes are still with us and this damp weather won’t help any to reduce their population.  Few deerflies hanging around irritating folks but all and all not so bad.

Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there with hook in water will be from…9:30 AM –  11:30 AM.  Then once again a bit later from 2:30 PM -6:00 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating for catching them out of 4.  Data right at this time is changing as I type and it is quite possible that later on the chances of catching them could raise to 3 out of 4.  Lure of the day I would recommend a nice bright one like in the picture.  Doesn’t have to be the exact kind but should be one made for shallow diving.  Click Picture to enlarge and good luck.Green Bomber Long A

Around Town:   Quiet here in Port Loring this morning.    My gardens though are really putting on a show this year and I would have to say it is the best of the best this year, for growing things. My lovely wife has been steadily drying herbs for Fall and got jars loaded to the hilt.  So will be eating healthy in that department let me tell you.  The house sure smells nice with her drying them.  Also one has to take into account the money one saves by growing their own, not to forget the quality.  I priced a few of the herbs like oregano, sage, basil and some others in the grocery store and I was shocked to see that they were charging, anywhere from  $3:00 – $5.00 for a small bunch.  Prices of things have sure risen over the years to say the least.  Main reason being that Canada..for most parts has become less self efficient.  Once, one of the largest producing countries of their very own vegetables, now rely on other countries.  We fell victim to the money seekers, where as subdivisions and factories built on our prime land, was more important than looking after ones health and needs.  To bad,  as it never can be brought back to what once was.

Port Loring, Events, Weather & Fishing Times

Good morning:  Well a few clouds surrounding us here in Port Loring this morning but sunshine will be upon us shortly.  Waking up temperatures were sitting at…                   11.9 C | 53.42 F.

Forecast For Today:   Fairly fine, improving as the day moves forward.

Bug Report:   Not much happening other than a few mosquitoes and deerflies.  Summer is here.

Fishing Times:   This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there fishing will be from 9:00 AM – 11:30 AM then once again from 4:30 PM – 7:00 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  Bait of the day leeches, fishing near the bottom. Let you line out till it reaches bottom then raise an inch or so and should be no reason a nice Pickerel or Pike doesn’t make a meal out of it.  Oh and don’t forget that Goham’s Bait here in Port Loring is the choice of some great tackle and live bait.  Say hi to Reg for me, he is the owner.  Great fellow and knows his stuff when it comes to fishing. Good luck.

Around Town:    Not to much to report here this morning.  You can look at my previous posts as they have some interesting things that is taking place in our area.  My wife and I did notice last night coming home that our Legion had a great turnout.  Cars parked everywhere. Great to see folks supporting our Local Events.    Tea time here my friends. In Closing, I Would Like To Wish You Well.

Port Loring, Information, Weather & Fishing Times

Good morning. Well sure a nice looking day out there starting things off.  Sun is shinning and hardly a cloud to be seen.  Can’t get much better than that.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at…13.5 C | 56.3 F and will warm up considerably as the day progresses.  Great day to take in what Nature has to offer and we got it all right here in Port Loring Ontario.

Forecast For Today:    Possible showery early, improving though through out the day.

Bug Report:   Nothing much to report here relating to insects.  Mosquitoes have quieted down for most parts which is OK by me.  Few Blackflies and Horseflies irritating folks off and on but nothing to really cause any harm.

Fishing Times:   This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 8:30 AM – 11:45 AM.  Then a bit later on from 2:30 PM – 5:00 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  Thinking it will be a pretty fair day all way round for putting fish on the supper table.  For fishing today I recommend a great little spoon which can be purchased for under $10.00 and would be a great asset to any tackle box.  Take a look..images  Add a small minnow, leach or small worm on the end and there should be no reason not to hook onto a nice Pickerel, Pike Or Bass.  Casting out towards the shore line bringing it in slowly, will surely entice one or two.

News Around Town:  Yesterday had a chap drop by the house here with a flyer pertaining to the Cornfest that will be taking place at the Community Centre in Arnstein Ontario on August 30/2014.  This is a great event and has been taking place here in our district for many years.  It is something all should attend to say the least.  Click Flyer to enlarge and for all the details relating to this event.  Have a great day my friends, get outside, soak up some sunshine if one follows this ritual no Flu Shots will be needed this Fall. ltss-0362 Also remember if you would like your event or happening added here on the Blog let me know and it will be done.

Port Loring Ontario, Weather, Information & Fishing Times

Good morning. Well waking up some sun is upon us, along with temperatures sitting at  13.7 C | 56.66 F.  Things will warm up finally as the day moves forward. So what could be better?

Forecast For Today:    Unsettled, probably improving shortly with sunshine in abundance.  Makes a fellow feel alive looking at it shinning on the huge red pines.

But Report:   All is well in our area other than a few pesky mosquitoes irritating some.  Throw in a few deerflies for good measure.  But as I say nothing that would stop anyone from going outside and enjoying what nature has to offer.

Fishing Times:   This morning I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  The old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from: 8:30 AM – 12:00 PM Then a bit later from 4:00 PM – 7:30 PM.  Tackle of the day that I would recommend would be the Tourney Minnow, that is if you don’t have the real thing.  Take a look…canvas They sell for under $5.00 at most places, if more than that, pass on the deal and look around.  The one in the picture is a deep diver which you can tell by the plastic piece under the head.  A shallow diver would be much better, but it will give you the idea of what to look for.  Good luck.

News Around Town:  A chap by the name of Bob got in touch with me discussing things relating to getting the word out on events and things.  In doing so he sent me a few happenings in and around our area.  Take a look…

Port Loring Information, Events, Weather & Fishing Times

Good morning. Well cloudy this morning. Old sunshine is having a hard time showing itself this summer.  Hoping August is a bit better.  Temperatures are also a lot cooler this year.  Waking up they were sitting at…12.3 C | 54.14 F.  Fellow wants to kind of stay in bed.  But not good to waste a day.

Forecast For Today:   Changeable, mending though as the day progresses.  We had     21 mm of  rain yesterday and through the night.  So no shortage of moisture this summer.

Fishing Times:    This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from…9:00 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then once again from 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM.  I give it a 1 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  Not the greatest day for fishing using my data and expertise.  But the item of choice for catching them today would be a spinner.  They come in may shapes and forms but the one Iike I will show you in a pictures take a look…1049492_15442  With this one you can use it for casting or trolling. I have found both ways works out quite successful.  I got some nice bass using this lure.  Also a piece of worm on the end or a leech would be a great asset.  You can pick these up under $10.00.  I don’t believe price is an issue when buying a lure in every scenario. But a good quality lure that shows great action, is what one should be looking for.  Good Luck.

Bug Report:    Been pretty good around here the past few days with weather being wet, windy and cooler.  Things will change though once the sum makes its appearance in the coming days and things warm up. Mosquitoes would be the culprit that is going to annoy folks with a few deerflies thrown in for good measure.  But nothing to stop one from enjoying the north.

Around Town:  This morning we have the Farmers Market  in Arnstein, located at the Community Centre.  You can click the flyer below for all the information relating to this event.ltss-0357  Great outing for folks and while your at it stop off at the other stores we have here in Port Loring and maybe even have a sandwich at one of our restaurants.

Yesterday I told you about the Horse Soccer, it is located at Trout Creek at the Community centre there, on the 522, starting at 7:00 PM every Thursday night, weather permitting.  Sounds like an interesting event for sure and my wife and I are going to make a point of going to one or two once we get a few things cleared up here at home. Just been quite busy this year it seems. Any ways I a picture sent to me of Carrie Rogers Granddaughter “Hailey” riding Rhythm, owned by Carrie who lives here in Port Loring. Great folks for sure and nice to have them as friends. Also a few others of the Soccer Game that is taking place. Take A Look!!

Port Loring News, Information, Weather & Fishing Times

Good morning. Well cloudy day out there with a touch of sunshine trying to show itself. Temperatures waking up were sitting at 15.3 C | 59.54 F.  Will warm up a few degrees as the day progresses.

Forecast For Today:   Stormy, much rain, along with a thunderstorm; thunderstorms can produce hail.  Lets hope we don’t get any of that.  So…some inside work is in the works once again.  Lots of rain this summer but temperatures are quite nice.  Lot better than that hot sticky stuff.

Fishing Times:   Well this morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 8:00 AM – 10:30 AM.  Once again a bit later from 2:30 PM – 5:30 PM.j  Lure of the day taking things into consideration would be either a cheap on price Tourney Popper, goes for around $2.00 in most places or…a Rapala® X-Rap® Pop Topwater Lure.  It usually sells for around $10.00 or a touch cheaper. I have seen them sell for $8.00. Here is  a couple pictures showing both kinds.   A piece of worm on each one casting out into the lilly pads and dragging them in slowly should catch you a nice large mouth bass or pike.  Good luck.

Around Town:    Quiet around town.  Myself I got lots of shop work on the go so keeping busy for sure.  Doing things I enjoy actually and you know.  That is what life is all about.  I did hear today that at the Trout Creek Community Centre, on the 522, starting at 7:00 PM every Thursday night, weather permitting there is an event going on called Horse Soccer.  So what is Horse Soccer? In a nutshell it is about playing soccer with your horse. Horse soccer plain and simple.  Sounds interesting and thinking my wife and I will have to go and take it in one night in the coming days.

Port Loring Information, Fishing Times & Weather

Good morning.  Well really nice looking day out there.  Temperatures are sitting at           13 C | 55.4 F. Should reach up to near 24 C | 74 F.  Sun is shinning and with the winds coming in from the SSW, what could be better.

Forecast For Today:   Unsettled, short fine intervals through out the day.  So not to hard to take.

Bug Report:   Nothing to report here either as what is here is here for the summer. Few mosquitoes and deerflies irritating folks off and on but that is about it.  Really nice time of year.

Fishing Times:    This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from 7:00 AM – 1:00 AM.  Then once again from 4:00 PM – 7:30 PM. Lure of the day I would recommend this take a look… Click Picture To Enlarge.  4-YellowRed-288x178 Make sure though you buy one with a small hook and add a piece of worm to it.  The biggest mistake  I find  that folks make is fishing with too large of a hook.  Cast in and around lilly pads near shore and bring in quickly when it hits the water, then ease off a touch and carry on in to the boat.  You should be able to hook onto a nice pike or walleye. Good Luck.

Around Town:  Nothing much happening in the way of events and things.  Folks are out and about picking up items of choice here and there.  I have noticed a few more boats out on the water these days which is great to see.   Nothing nicer than to be enjoying our north, especially this time of year.  Watching the mist slowly rise above the water in the early morning hours, with a coffee or tea in hand, is about the most relaxing thing one could process through ones mind.  Enjoy your day my friends and try and get some sunshine on that skin of yours.  You want to be strong for what is to come this winter.  Right? No Flu Shot Needed.  George. W.

Port Loring Weather, Happenings & Fishing Times

Good morning.  Well rainy day here this morning.  Waking up temperatures were sitting at:  18.6 C | 65.48 F.  Had 22 mm of rain since last night.

Forecast For Today:   Stormy, much rain  off an on throughout the day.  Kind of looking like it might be a wet week but sun will shine through off and on.  Mid week we could see some cooler temperatures.

Bug Report:  Yesterday they weren’t to bad other than a few mosquitoes annoying folks.  Nothing that would cause some one not to get outside and go for a walk.

Fishing Times:   Well today I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  Bait of choice would be worms teased by a small lime coloured lure with small hook.  The old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM then once again from 2:30 PM – 4:45 PM.  Good luck.

Around Town:   Not too much to report here this morning.   Hardly a car at this time moving up or down highway 522.  Tourists are easing their way into our area, but weather won’t be cooperating too well this week for those out and about.  I have found over the years that most folks take their holidays either starting the first of July, or the first of August.  Some hold back some don”t.  July here in Port Loring has been a touch slow. August is on the horizon though and will unfold all he mysteries shortly.  For most parts though the stores and business’s are doing OK.  In reality money isn’t what life is all about any ways. At least that is what, should be the case.  So my friends, enjoy your day and have some fun with family, friends or by yourself.  GW
