Snowfall warning for
North Bay – Powassan – Mattawa continued

Significant snowfall tonight.

A low pressure area is forecast to develop over the Great Lakes ahead of a cold front. Snow is occurring across a wide swath of central and northeastern Ontario. It will continue tonight and give 15 to locally 20 centimetres of snow to the North Bay region by Thursday morning. As of 6 PM North Bay has reported 5 centimetres. It will gradually taper off Thursday morning to a few flurries.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution due to accumulating snow and reduced visibilities in drifting and local blowing snow.

More Snow and Enjoying Life

Well not as cold this morning but more snow is in the forecast they say.  Sheesh we got over a good foot already. Since we moved here to the north this is been the worst for snow and cold weather. Not that I am complaining mind ya as we love it up here.  We also put away for winter, meaning food and firewood, so we are set pretty well for what ever mother nature can throw at us.  Good way to be. Also good to be prepared for other things to.  Well better get back at my new book.  Editing, editing, editing, is on the menu for the next few weeks. But it all gets done.  Just enjoying life here. Cold Day In Port Loring And New Book is Coming Along.

Well still cold here hovered around 14 degrees here all week.  Working away here on the upcoming new book.  Lots to do but enjoying it.  Take each day at a time as if I was looking at the whole picture it would just overwhelm me too much.  My wife too has been busy working on all the sketches for the book which in itself is a huge project but as me she takes it as it and enjoys it as it comes.  Great team we are huh?

Just Working Away On My New Book

Well been steadily working away here on my second book.  Starting to take shape finally, but still lots to do.  Lot of folks don’t realize just how much goes into the making of a book, especially if one does it all themselves.  Well I am far from doing it by myself, as I got my wife busy with sketches and my two sons working in the back ground.  Lots to be done, but through out these cold winter days, what better time could there be, than sitting in looking out and enjoying life.  Isn’t that what life is suppose to be all about?  Talk Soon

Second Book Is Coming Along

Well been steadily working here on my second book these days and got to say it’s been going along pretty good. My two sons have been there for me helping when asked, which is a good thing.  I know it would never get finished if it wasn’t for them.  For most parts I am into editing every day and entering them into the right foremat. My wife is steadily working on the sketches for the inside which consists of around sixty. One for each story.  She finished up the front cover today. Sketched it yesterday and painted it today. Looks really good. Can’t show you as of yet keeping it a secret till spring.  So being so cold outside these days it feels right to be inside looking out.  Talk Soon.

Cold Day Here In Port Loring, But Nice

Well cool morning here again. Down to 20 degrees old scale.  Was up through the night stoking the old wood furnace and enjoying every minute of it.  One thing about having the furnace we have, is that the wood is all inside your home nice and dry and easy to get at. So just need to pull on my slippers, no need to dress with coat and boots and strug off to the outside furnace through the snow and cold night air. Could never understand why anyone would even buy one of those things. Well I guess I know, their insurance brokers push it and that’s the reason for most thinking on the subject.  I figure it this way. If we did every thing the insurance brokers told us to do why would one even need insurance.  Well, as I have always said,  it all boils down to money and they sure are making it, hand over fist.  But all things come to an end, even for them, as we are seeing now.  So guess I will go and have a tea, and get back to doing what I love. Enjoy your day. Talk Soon.

Cold Morning Here In Port Loring

Well cool morning here to wake up too.  Down to 20 Degrees with a sniff of snow on the ground. I still go by the old scale, don’t like metric one bit.  All metric did is complicate things that have been prefectly good for hundreds of years, not to forget how many billions of dollars it cost us.  This is one old feller that didn’t change his ways.  Not many of us left out there either.  Got the old wood furnace going here this morning. Had to get up once last night and throw a couple more logs in the furnace.  But I enjoy doing it.  Just going to have a tea here then get back to working on my second book.  Hope you all are well.  Talk Soon

Second New Book In The Works

Well got started yesterday on my second book. This one will be related to my other one but mostly on Gardening. I am in editing mode right now.  I am hoping for a spring release.  Will keep you all up to date of how it’s coming along as them cold winters days slide by.  Nothing nicer than sitting in wood heated home looking out at what mother nature has to offer.  Great life hope you are all enjoying it. Cool Wet Day

Well cool day here but just a few minutes ago seen a glimmer of sunshine. So might be a nice Sunday Afternoon.  Been so busy the past few days burning brush and things on our piece of property that I haven’t had time to rest, so figured it’s a good day to take a break.  Since I moved here to Port Loring I got to say I never seen a more pretty piece of country in all my days.  Just sitting here looking out my windows is a picture in itself.   Old wood furnace is perking away, and, well, I am just enjoying life with my lovely wife.  Talk Soon.

Firewood Lean-Too

Well got tired of covering my firewood with a tarp for the past three years and decided on building this.  Should be nice for next years firewood for sure.  One thing about covering the firewood with an old tarp it actually makes the wood worse than if you just left it out in the open air on its own. So this was my solution and thought I would share.  Enjoy and I will Talk Soon.

Lean-Too For Firewood

Bacon And Eggs

I got to tell you on these cold mornings there is only one breakfast that gets me going. That is bacon and eggs with a couple cups of fresh perked coffee.  Just something about them makes me feel good. One thing is the smell of the bacon cooking and coffee perking away on the stove, boy it sure gets the mouth to watering. I know most folks say they aren’t good for you, but I look at it this way. It’s the amount one eats. If you eat bacon and eggs say every day, well I would think that it would be a bit much. But if you say, had it twice a week or so, well it wouldn’t hurt you a bit.  It’s all in the amounts.  Talk Soon

Cool Morning

Well cool morning here when I got up. Down to 29 degrees. But they say it is going to get warmer as the week goes forward.  Which is ok with me as I burn wood for heat living here in the North.  So far I have burned around a full cord I would think, so it looks like it’s going to be a long season.  Usually we burn around 16 face cords a year to heat this old house of ours.  In my eyes wood heat is the only way to go here in the north, as if one had to pay for oil, gas, or hydro he would for sure have to have a good job, paying good wages.  For us old folks though we make do with what we got and wood is our only way to keep warm for the money we got coming in.  Not complaining mind ya, as my wife and I have been self efficient all our lives, not relying on anyone.  Just the way it is. Have a great day.  Talk Soon

Fluorescent Mercury Filled Light Bulbs

Now there is something that the Powers To Be wants us all to switch too.  Well for this old feller it will never happen. The biggest reason is the mercury that is inside the bulbs which is deadly to humans.  I don’t know where these folks get their thinking as it won’t make our world a better place, it will make it a hundred times worse.  If you happen to drop and break a bulb you are in trouble as the mercury is so fine it can be in the air in seconds. Don’t use your vacuum cleaner if you break one to clean it up as it will put the stuff all through the air. Sweep it up the best you can. Where does these bulbs go when they break or wear out.  Yep right to your dump, in the ground, and then into your water and food.   For another reason I don’t like them I don’t like the light they give off.  I enjoy the yellowish look of our old bulbs as it relaxes me. The Fluorescent Bulbs give off a cold feeling.  Talk Soon

Got Your Garlic Ready To Be Planted?

Well hope you all had a good garden this year and got lots put away for winter. I am thinking this is going to be the way in the coming years, as with the way our food supply is going one has to take a serious look on what he or she is eating these days. One sure fire way of fixing the problem of not having good food for the table is to grow their own.

At any rate on the Garlic department, this is the time of year to plant it. Yep hard to believe but Fall is the time to put it in the ground, just before the freeze.  I plant about ten bulbs each year which makes about two fifteen foot rows. Just buy up some bulbs at the grocery store, take them apart and put one clove in each small hole, about an inch or two deep and about three inches apart. That’s it and come next June you will have some of the best, healthiest vegetable going. Talk Soon

First Book Is A Success

Thought I would mention here about how my first published book is doing which is called,  One More Story With George Walters. It’s going great.  I got to tell you I would have never believed so many folks were lining up to buy this book.  I honestly have to say it humbles me.  I am sure happy folks are enjoying it.  This book is in reality doing what it was intended. It is there to bring the simple ways of life along with family values back to those that has lost them.  It is a book for all ages and a real easy book to read. It is based on life experiences mostly my own, brought to life through the eyes of a young boy.  Also a few other stories from my Dad and Grandfather.  So thanks again for all your support and help in the publishing of my book, as if it wasn’t for my family of readers it would have never been brought to print. Talk Soon. Oh and my second book is in the works. More words on it  in the coming days.
