Port Loring Ontario, News, Happenings & Fishing Times

Good Morning:   Well sunny morning here. A touch cool but not so bad.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at…10.5 C | 50.9 F.

Forecast For Port Loring:  Fairly fine, possible showers early. Tomorrow and Friday should be nice and sunny.  So some nice looking weather ahead for a couple days.

Bug Report:  None to report, things are all good in that department.

Fishing Times;   This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.  Then once again a bit later from..2:30 PM – 4:00 PM.

Around Town:  Not to much to report here this morning.  Lots of construction happening with roads being done up before the snow is upon us.  Stores have slowed down some with sales which is to be expected. Our small gallery is still doing well with orders coming in daily and the wife’s paintings making an impression on folks along with sales.  On another note the vegetable gardens will be in need of cleaning up soon once the first big frost hits our area.  So far we have been lucky for most parts.  Cooler weather though does slow down most items.  Spinach, Kale and Celery like the cool weather though, so they will hold on for a few more weeks an even longer if you cover them at nights to protect them from the frost.  Tomatoes also will hold their own if covered.  Mine are pretty well done for the season, but I will say they outdid themselves this year for quality and quantity.   With the weather being so cold and wet all summer we had an ample supply of everything in our gardens.  So no complaints.  Today I will be picking the rest of our corn and then digging out the stalks which the wife use for decoration around our grounds.  Sure looks nice when all said an done. Nothing goes to wast. So my friends, enjoy your day, try your best to soak up some of that sunshine for the next couple days, as it will maintain your health into the coming winter and then some.

Port Loring Events, Fishing Times & Weather

Good Morning: Well waking up temperatures were a bit warmer sitting at…10.8 C | 51.44 F.  Will warm up a touch a bit later.

Forecast For Today: Rain, very unsettled.  Tomorrow should see a bit of sunshine.

Bug Report:  None to report.

Fishing Times:   This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from…10:00 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then again a bit later from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  Good Luck.

Around Town:  Not much happening in and around our area these days.  Not too many cars running up and down Highway 522 other than the locals.  Seems most folks have decided to head on back home with the weather being as such.  Can’t say I blame them.  On our trip to town the other day I noticed the leaves are making their change for another season.  Couple weeks and they will be out in full bloom.  Amazing how fast the year went.  So my friends going to get my morning tea and then see where the day brings us.  Enjoy your day.

Port Loring Information, Weather & Fishing Times

Good Morning: Well a bit cool out there this morning once again.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at.. 5 C | 41 F.  Will warm up a wee bit but not much.

Forecast For Today:  Showery early, improving.

Bug Report:  None to report.

Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from…12:00 PM – 4:00 PM.  I give it a 1 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.   Good luck and don’t forget your jacket.

Around Town:  Quiet for most parts not to much happening. I did head off to North Bay yesterday to see my son Karl and pick up some groceries, which we were in need of.  Wasn’t a store or restaurant their that wasn’t lined up with customers.  I am thinking Saturday is shopping day for the North Bay Residence.   Along with a few outsiders like my wife and myself.  Gas prices were down a touch which is typical for this time of year.  Once the tourists are back home and kids are in school, it seems prices fall.  Good time too fill your tanks.  We shop at Independent for most parts as we like their Banking System. You collect points and things and for most parts one can usually rack up around $20.00 free groceries a month. Also they have about the best interest rates for your money. Every bit helps.  Well tea time here, just going to take it easy today.  Enjoy your day my friends.

Port Loring Ontario, Weather, Happenings & Fishing Times

Good Morning:  Well not so nice of a day here starting off weather wise.  Temperatures waking up were reading…5.8 C | 42.44 F  Will warm up a touch to 10 C / 50 F.

Forecast For Today:  Rain, very unsettled.

Bug Report:  Once again nothing to report.  This cold weather has held them at bay for quite a spell now.  I am thinking we are pretty well done with them for this year.  Which is OK by me.

Fishing Report:   The old weather stick today is saying if you are going to head on out and do some fishing the best times to be out there will be from 12:00 PM = 3:00 PM.  I give it a 1 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.    Not so good a day in all aspects but what can one do.  Good luck.

Around Town:   Not too much happening in the way of events and things. Most of our summer activities are over for this season.  Folks are slowly edging their work items toward keeping warm.  Like bringing in firewood and sealing up the old house.  We here at our home have been steadily working on the house inside and out for three years now.  Got the whole house fully insulated now and now in the process of having Jamie Mathews installing a new wood and oil furnace for us, along with all new duct work.  When all said and done it should be a lot warmer and more comfortable.  Have to say that Jamie sure knows his stuff when it comes to furnaces and things. Great fellow along with his helper.  I wouldn’t hesitate for one minute to recommend him for your winter heating needs.  Once the furnaces are all hooked up and running, bringing in the firewood will be on the agenda, which is a job in itself. But…one does get the exercise one needs in doing so.  Tea time here my friends, enjoy your day and stay dry.

Port Loring News, Weather & Fishing Times

Good Morning:  Well a touch cool out there waking up this morning.  Temperatures were sitting at 5.1 C | 41.18 F.  I did get down to 4 C / 39.2 F.

Forecast For Port Loring Ontario:  Fairly fine, improving to partly sunny….but cool.

Bug Report:  None to report this morning.  Cooler weather has taken its toll on them and sent them to warmer areas.

Fishing Times:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from…12>30 PM – 4:00 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  Might need a jacket though.  Good Luck.

Around Town:  Things are rolling along here at our small store.  Finally got caught up with my orders and now working in the gardens.  Lots to do this time of year preparing for the colder weather which is sure to make its appearance within the next few weeks.  I usually can clean out our veggie garden this time of year with things being pretty well used up. But seems this year things want to keep on growing and I am not about to stop their wishes when good healthy free food is readily available, right at my fingertips so to speak.  I will leave them as long as possible.  On another note there are a few tourists still around making an appearance here and there, but for most parts they have all left or closing up their cottages and heading back to their sheltered life in the cities.   Leaving us old weathered folks to fend for ourselves, which is OK by the standards my wife and I pertain life too.  So my friends have a great day and try to get outside and soak up some of that sunshine and breath in our great northern air which is so plentiful in our area.  Your body will thank you for it and health will be reigned in for winter.

Port Loring Events, Happenings, Weather & Fishing Times

Good morning:  Well kind of a gloomy looking day out there this morning.  Temperature was a bit cool waking up, saying…7.1 C | 44.78 F.  Will warm up a wee bit later on, remaining cool today though.

Forecast For Port Loring:    Rather unsettled clearing later.  Barometer is Rising Very Rapidly which is a good sign.  So will have to see what the day brings our way.

Bug Report:   Nothing to report here in this department.  Seems they are headed off to warmer climates.  Which is OK by me.

Fishing Times:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from…11:00 AM – 3:30 PM.  I give it a 1 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  I would think a rain coat would be an item one wouldn’t want to forget if out there today.

Around Town:  Lots of trucks moving up and own our highway with road work being done everywhere these days.  But has to be done.  While the weather was nice I took a few pictures of some flowers and bushes we have on our property.  Seemed they were just asking for their picture to be taken.  So thought I would share them with you.  Hope it brightens up your day.   Have a great day.  Click Pictures to Enlarge.

Port Loring News, Winter Weather Prediction & Fishing Times

Good Morning:  Well not a bad day out there thus far. Temperatures waking up were sitting at…15.4 C | 59.72 F.   Will warm up a touch a bit later on.

Forecast For Port Loring:   We will see a bit of sunshine today but as the day progresses it will become…Stormy, much rain.  Also will start to get colder after today with temperatures dropping down to near..13 C / 56 F.

This year I predict a colder winter than our norm and we could see quite a bit of snow with high winds throughout.  Might pay to fix up the old house a touch before things start to cool down some.   All the signs in nature are pointing towards a not so good winter.

Fishing Times:   Well this morning the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from..1:00 PM. 5:00 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 4 for catching. You can’t get any better than than that.  Good luck.

Around Town:   Has been a touch quiet business wise around town, with reports of things slowing down some.  But it is to be suspected with cooler weather slowly approaching our area.  My wife and I were away for two days down in the Guelph area, just went for a drive to take in what the other half  is doing.  It is really busy down that way with folks out and about shopping and none stop traffic.  We kind of form off to the smaller towns.  I did notice all along Highway 6 leading into Parry Sound is quite busy.  Fall fairs also are all on ones minds through out that area now and I have to say I enjoy going to a few, taking in what they have to offer.  Good to see folks out and good to get away.  One can get cabin fever in the summer too if care isn’t taken.  I find a few trips a year away from Port Loring is what is required to make a fellow realize just how lucky we are to live were we do.  Great to get away but also great to get back home.  Today I will picking my red peppers for the freezer and in doing so the wife said she will make us up a bowl of fresh red pepper soup for dinner.   Quite tasty to say the least.  Enjoy your day my friends.  Oh and we have a fresh supply of our books in stock now for those that have been around an asking.  Enjoy your day my friends.

Port Loring Information, Weather & Fishing Times

Good Morning:    Well waking up this morning temperatures were sitting at 12.6 C | 54.68 F.  Not so bad and things will warm up as the day moves forward.

Forecast For Today:    Showery early, improving through and should see lots of sunshine.  Tomorrow the same.  Then things change a bit with cooler wet weather moving into the area.  So my friends enjoy the next two days.

Bug Report:   A few mosquitoes in the early evening hours but other than that it is really nice out there.

Fishing Times:    This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 6:00 AM – 11:00 AM.  Then again from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  You won’t get a better time for catching fish than this.    I am thinking any lure you have in your tackle box will work with a touch of live bait on it.  Troll or sit still doesn’t matter.  Comes a time once a year when pretty well anything or anything you do will work and this is the day.  So good luck with that.

Around Town:  Few campers and things moving into our area.  Stores are generally quiet busy throughout the day. Our store has slowed down some but orders are still piled up waiting to be done.  For those that have asked through E-Mails, Phone Calls and Dropped by.  I will have more books here this coming Wednesday.  First time ever that I sold out of all five books.  Amazing really.   But in saying that I am really happy folks are enjoying the stories which resides in them all.  So my friends, enjoy the sunshine today.

Bug Report:  Looking good out there these days nothing around to irritate  us humans.

Around Town:   Well not to much happening, hardly a car moving up and down Highway 522 today.  Gardens are winding down for another year.  Tomatoes are about finished.  Got what we needed and then some all done up in jars, so no complaints in that department.   Corn is plentiful also this year and should have good supply of pumpkins and squash for winter.  I sure enjoy home made Pumpkin Pies.  If you have never tried one you should, you will be pleasantly surprised by the taste.  So had better go, heading out to the shop to work on my flutes.  Have a great day and try your best to soak up some of that sunshine.  Got two more days of it, then things change a bit.

Port Loring Events, Happenings, Weather & Fishing Times

Good Morning:  Well a nice day is shaping up weather wise and other hopefully.  Temperatures were this morning waking up were sitting at 13.1 C | 55.58 F.

Forecast For Today:  Showery early, improving.

Bug Report:  Hardly a bug to speak of through the daytime hours.  Few Mosquitoes which is to be expected after dusk.

Fishing Times:   Today the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from…7:00 AM – 9:00 AM.   Then again a bit later from 12:00 PM – 4:00 PM.

Around Town:   Quiet these days.  Kids are back in school and folks are settling down business wise, for a winter of bliss.  If not it should be.  In some ways winter is rest time, trees are sleeping, certain animals are hibernating.  Others huddled together keeping each other warm.  The cold brings folks and critters together.  Could say it is a bonding of time and family.  The thing today that is taking up most of ones time though is the computer.  Folks sit for hours on end in front of these things not realizing that the outside world…important things, are passing them by.  I heard a fellow the other day say when I asked if he had a computer.  “Well I did have, but found it was a time grabber and looked at things carefully and seen so many things I was missing.  So I gave it up and got rid of it.  Today I am out camping on my own, taking in nature when I can, enjoying life, watching people animals in what they are doing.  Seems to me that these are the important things in life, not sitting  in front of a computer.”  You know them were very wise words to say the least.  Even myself with my newspaper columns, books and other items like the Blog here, I still try and get away from this thing called a computer.  It does take a lot of ones time, and time my friends is a very, very valuable thing.  Enjoy your day my friends.  Some nice weather heading our way, so good time to soak up some of that sunshine.

Port Loring Information, Weather & Fishing Times

Good Morning:  This morning we here in Port Loring woke up to cloudy skies once again.  Temperatures were sitting at..20.7 C | 69.26 F.

Weather Forecast For Port Loring:  Stormy, much rain, says it all for today.

Bug Report: Nothing much to report here in that department.  The only ones out there annoying folks are the..No-see-ums which I like to call them.  There is a type that likes to bite folks but the ones we have around here just annoy for most parts.  Especially when near a car or truck that is running.  Or a mower which I found out yesterday while mowing our lawn.  They just swarmed in on me, but as I say they didn’t cause any harm other than annoying me, up my nose and in ones ears and eyes.  But once the mowers or cars are shut off they leave.

Fishing Times:   For those wanting to do some fishing today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there  will be from…10:00 AM – 12:30 PM.  Then once again from 4:00 PM – 5:30 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating for catching them all day long.  Should be a great day for pulling them in.  Good luck.

Around Town:  I Made a trip to the Land Fill site yesterday and was talking to Jim who runs it.  He asked if I would add to the Blog here this morning that they are now on winter hours, which is as follows…

For the North Road…                                                                                                       Thursdays & Saturdays 1:00 PM – 6:00 PM.

For Golden Valley:                                                                                                    Thursdays & Saturdays 7:30 AM – 11:30 AM

Have a great day.

Port Loring Ontario Canada, Weather, News & Fishing Times

Good Morning:   Well a pretty fair looking day out there this morning.  Yesterday I didn’t enter anything as you well know here on the Blog.  Reason being our internet service was being worked on and it never came back on line till around 3 in the afternoon.  So to late then to add items for the day.  Today it is working good.  Temperatures waking up this morning were sitting at…20.4 C | 68.72 F and will warm up a touch more as the day moves forward.

Forecast For Today:  Rather unsettled clearing later along with a few nice days to follow.

Bug Report:  Hardly a bug to be seen out there these days.  No reason for folks to not enjoy what we have to offer here in the north, pertaining to nature.

Fishing Times:   Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from11:00 AM – 3:00 PM.  Then again a bit later from…4:30 PM – 6:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them today.  Good luck.

Around Town:  Well hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend. I know my wife and I did.  Did up tomatoes actually, as they seem to all come on at once.  Managed to get 57 quart jars done up so far.  Will probably do up another ten or so and should be good then till this time next year.  So if in need of information relating to tomatoes, it takes around 60 jars to maintain a family of two for one year.  My wife does make a lot of things though, that uses tomatoes.  So for some the quantity might be a touch lower.  They are good for your health though.  Other than that things are slowing down a touch now around town, with not so many cars moving up and down Highway 522.  Kids are all back in school trying to fit in to their new environment, along with the teachers.  All and all been a pretty good year thus far.  Now comes the other blend of folks to our area.  The ones that want to sit back, relax and forget about the other half.  No kids to inter-fear with their thinking and nothing but them and nature to blend into what ever their heart desires.  Great way to go about life if I do say so myself.  So my friends while the sun is upon us, try and soak up some of her rays which in turn will keep you healthy all winter long.

Port Loring Ontario, Information, Weather & Fishing Times

Good Morning:  Well this morning it is somewhat cloudy waking up.  Temperatures were sitting at…19.8 C | 67.64 F.

Forecast For Today:  Unsettled, with short fine intervals. Won’t be as warm today as it was yesterday but starting tomorrow things will warm up with sunshine once again upon us for most the week.  OK by me.

Bug Report:  Not so bad out there this time of year.  Few no see-um ones around but they don’t bite anyone, just annoy, especially near a running vehicle.  They love the carbon dioxide  coming for the exhaust.

Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there with line in water will be from 7:30 AM – 12:00 PM.  Then again a bit later from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating for catching them this morning and a 3 fish rating out of 4 this afternoon.  Might pay to take a rail coat along with you.

Around Town:  Well Cornfest is over for another year.  By the sounds of things lots of folks had fun, which is what life is all about.  Taking things to serious just causes stress and stress is what causes most sickness’s.  Nice to see folks out and about enjoying life.  We, meaning my wife and I couldn’t make it to the event as with our small store being so busy we wasn’t able or didn’t want to leave.  At times you couldn’t put another car in the driveway.  Not complaining mind ya, sure is nice to see folks dropping by to chat and pick up items of their choice.  Was a great day no matter what way you look at it.   So my friends enjoy your day and stay safe if out driving.  Lots of cars on the road with folks heading back home from the cottages.

Fishing Times:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from…10:00 AM – 3:00 PM.  Then again from 5:30 PM – 6:30 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  Today fishing will be at its peak for the year.  No reason why folks shouldn’t have fish for supper.

Around Town:  Later on this afternoon our Cornfest takes place, starts at 3:00 PM.  For all the information click on the flyer in the post below this one.  On another note, went to North Bay Yesterday to visit our son, go for lunch and pick up some groceries.  Lots of folks out and about with traffic backed up on all roads and highways.  Great to see folks out and about for sure.  Also I should mention here that Ontario Fresh Fruit is in the stores now and it is my opinion that everyone should be picking up a basket of peaches, nectarines or pears.  There is nothing more healthier for you than fresh fruit.  The good thing is…it is grown right here in Southern Ontario.  There is no better anywhere in the world.  I picked up a basket of each yesterday myself and what a treat.  Better get them fast my friends as they don’t last for very long. Also the peaches are freestones right now which makes it much much easier for those making jams, jellies, freezing or putting in jars.  So on that note, don’t forget to support your local establishments, and enjoy what nature has to offer.

Good Morning:   Well this morning waking up temperatures were sitting at 9.3 C | 48.74 F.  It did get down to 7.8 C at 6:00 AM this morning.  So things are starting to cool off some in our area.

Around Town. Well it’s the day before out Cornfest here in town.  Flyer is below for anyone interested in the particulars.  Click to enlarge.  Other news, not much to report.  Things are slowing down with the kids going back to school.  Parents and young ones are busy shopping along with getting prettied up for their arrival in either a new grade or school.  Kind of an exciting day for the kids to say the least.  Myself when I went to school there wasn’t much change.  The old one room schoolhouse was the same year after year.  We did get to move to a different row though, which was something special to us back then.  There was only one teacher, teaching all eight grades.  The school had around fifty young one and you know…that teacher had time to deal with each one of us directly.  Something unheard of today.  Back then our teachers were an amazing sort to say the least.  Kind of like our doctors back then, as one doctor would look after hundreds of folks travelling door to door in all kinds of weather for miles and always had a friendly face when arriving.  Along with a great bed side manner too, which has all been lost in today’s world.  Have a great day.  ltss-0362

Around Town:  Well as I keep on mentioning here on the Blog, it is a festive time of year and here in Port Loring Ontario we have a great event closing in on us.  Our yearly Cornfest. For all the details relating to this event click flyer below.  Also one shouldn’t forget our Farmers Market…it is winding down for the year, so you won’t want to miss it this coming Wednesday.  For times, location and things you can also click that flyer below for better viewing.  Other than that not much more to report.  I am headin’ off for a nice cup of turmeric tea and then to the shop to work on another batch of flutes.  I have to say it has been a full year just keeping up with orders.  But then…I enjoy making them. We have a great selection if your thinking of getting one, for you or a friend.  Oh and should mention I just finished up a Branch Flute and every now and then a really special one comes along.  It along with many others will be up for sale within a week…once my lovely wife has done her part in prettying it up some.  Enjoy your day my friends.

Port Loring Ontario, Weather, Fishing Times & Information

Good Morning:   Well really nice looking day out there once again this morning. Temperatures dropped last night so that one could put a sheet over themselves.  Slept like  log.  Waking up temperatures were sitting at…14.9 C | 58.82 F.  Will warm up considerably as the day moves ahead.

Forecast For Today: Fairly fine, improving even more given some time.

Bug Report: No activity of any kind in and around our area other than a few mosquitoes and deerflies if out in the bush.

Fishing Times: This morning after putting things together the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from..9:00 AM – 11:45 AM.  Then once again from 4:30 PM – 6:00 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  Things are improving for sure.  Today I recommend live bait, be it minnows, worms or leeches.  All three will give the advantage over lures today.  Let line down to bottom and raise up about a half a foot.  Nothing more to do now than to sit, relax and take in what nature has to offer till the big one hits.  Good Luck.

Around Town:  Lots of cars moving up and down Highway 522 yesterday.  So in reality that is a good sign that a new crowd of tourist have arrived over the weekend.  I expect a busy week for our stores here in Port Loring.  My wife drove a good friend to North Bay yesterday that wasn’t feeling well, hopefully on the mend now.  She said the stores were really busy there with check out lines quite long.  I suspect they will be for the next few weeks, with folks getting the young ones outfitted for school, as it opens back up next week.  So my friends, enjoy that sunshine and warm weather and don’t forget about the Cornfest, which will start this coming weekend.  Flyer is on the previous post for those that would like to see all that is happening.

Port Loring Information, Weather & Fishing Times

Good Morning:   Well another day is upon us and a sunny one at that. Temperatures waking up were sitting at…16.9 C | 62.42 F.

Forecast For Today:  Showery early, improving as the day moves forward.

Bug Report:    Great time of year to enjoy the outdoors without being annoyed by insects.  Take it all in my friends, summer doesn’t enter into ones life and stay for very long.

Fishing Times:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there with line in water will be from…8:30 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then again a bit later from 2:45 PM – 5:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating for catching them this morning and a 3 fish rating out of 4 this afternoon.  Good luck.

Around Town:  Well our Local Services Board had their election for the up coming year and some changes were made.  The new board is as follows… Dan Brooks, Mike Buchanan, Luke Legault, Tim Gehrke and Warren Whitehead. There were 9 nominations to choose. The minutes should be out next week.  Great to see a couple new folks now and then taking up the challenge, as new, brings new ideas into full circle.  Also great to see we still have some older members on board, as they are so important in helping the new ones get organized and on the right track. Without them things would be a shambles.

On another note its a great day by the looks of it and I suspect I will do some front porch sitting and soak up some of that sunshine that has been so scarce for the past few weeks.  Nothing on this green earth is better for you.  Enjoy your day my friends.
