Morning Report Dec 31/19

For the last day of 2019 we are having some light flurries here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Overnight we had around 1 inch. It’s not enough that I have to wake up my snowblower though. Which is okay with me. Not that I don’t mind the exercise now and then. Highway 522 is partially covered with snow along with icy sections throughout. Might be a good day to stay home and put your feet up. That’s what we intend to do today. Temperatures waking up were sitting at -0.6 C | 30.92 F. We could see around 3 inches of snow as the day progresses, and temperatures will remain the same for most of the day. Actually the long range forecast is pretty good temperature wise. On another note my lovely wife and I had a great Christmas with our son Karl. Got lots of new things added to my computers, and the new Podcast is up and running around the globe. Can’t beat that. Actually we have had so many people listening to my Podcasts, it crashed my Blog, so Karl had to update it so it could handle the traffic. It should be okay now. That makes me smile. So with that I am off for my morning cup of perked coffee and will enjoy the last day of 2019. And along with that …. Happy New Years to you all. GW

Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning which will make travelling good. We didn’t have any more snow overnight. A lot has melted, with maybe two inches here and there covering the ground. Other than that not much else happening these days. Quiet around town with a lot of folks heading off to the sunny south to get away from the cold for a month or so and others relaxing in their warm homes. With that my wife and I would like to wish you all a very Merry Christmas. Don’t eat too much turkey tomorrow. LOL

Morning report Dec 23/19

It’s another nice looking day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning, warm temperatures, 3.5 C | 38.3 F and the snow is melting. Can’t beat that. It’s so nice outside I think I will wash our car. I have to admit after our last trip to town it doesn’t look too good. Be good to get all the salt and grime off it. And it will give me some fresh air and exercise doing it. Highway 522 is bare and dry so travelling will be perfect today. Makes things a lot nicer for folks heading off to family and friends for Christmas. One less thing to get stressed out about, as at this time of year most are. For my wife and I we are settling in and will just take Christmas as it is handed to us. Family and friends are dropping by what could be better. On the good side of the coin with this warm weather we don’t need the wood furnace burning away. The oil furnace is keeping things nice. It’s nice having both. Yesterday my lovely wife made up some cookies, brownies and today is pie day. I don’t think we will be lacking this year in the sweet department. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee. GW

It looks like a really nice day is shaping up for us here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning and temperatures are warming up. Waking up they were sitting at 0 C | 32 F. It will warm up more as the day progresses. Which in turn should get rid of a bit of this snow. Highway 522 is bare and dry. It will be a great day to head off to town to do that last minute shopping for Christmas. For us we are all set and my wife is in Cookie Mode today. Nothing like Christmas cookies to make this feller happy. Especially the kind with the sprinkles on top. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife. Have a good day.

Morning Report Dec 21/19

A cloudy day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. But we should see some sunshine as the day progresses. Temperatures waking up were sitting at -8.6 C | 16.52 F. On a good note temperatures will warm up quite a bit as the day moves forward and even warmer tomorrow. Actually things are shaping up to be a great Christmas weather wise, other than maybe cloudy on Christmas Day. Highway 522 is bare and dry which is a good thing, as folks can make their way to the cities to do their shopping. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and will then see about cleaning my furnace pipes. I like to do that at Christmas, as then I know it will be good till spring. They aren’t usually’t too bad, but this gives me ease of mind so to speak. I am burning some nice dry hardwood which makes things nice. Have a great day. GW

Morning Report

Another cold morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures waking up were sitting a -22.2 C | -7.96 F. Looking outside, the smoke is slowly curling up out of the chimneys, which is a sign of just how cold it is. But it isn’t as cold as it was yesterday. We didn’t have any more snow last night. Which is okay by me. On the good side of things the sun is starting to show itself. Highway 522 is bare and dry for most parts, so it will be a good day for folks to head on off to town to do their Christmas shopping. My wife and I went on Wednesday, which turned out to be a great day, other than being a touch cool. But we were able to get everything done, and along with that we had lunch with our son Karl. The roads were good too. The stores were really busy with folks standing in lines at the checkouts. Parking lots at the Mall in North Bay by Walmart were all full. The groceries stores weren’t too busy, but I suspect they will be now, with Christmas being so close. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and put another couple pieces of wood in the furnace. Have a great day and dress warm if going outside, but you all know that. Right? LOL

Morning Report Dec 19/19

It is a real cold one here this morning in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures waking up were sitting at -28.1 C | -18.58 F. The coldest night so far this winter. What they say on line for us here in Port Loring isn’t accurate. But that is understandable, as the governments weather station isn’t located here in Port Loring. But mine is. Our personal weather station is as follows:

MSO Weather Sensor
The MSO is an integrated 5-parameter
Weather Station. Wind Speed and Wind
Wind Speed and Direction
• Rugged All Metal Housing
• Temperature
• SDI12, RS232, RS485 Outputs
• Humidity
• Met One 7500 Protocol
• Barometric Pressure
• Rain

There is a lot more technical items that bring things together, like our Data Logger, antennas, computers and other things. The main ingredient is my son Karl, who keeps it all running smoothly., That gives you an idea of what we are using. Not a cheap unit by no means.

On another note, Highway 522 is bare as of now, but we are having some flurries which just started. Later on today we should see a wee bit of sunshine. We had no snow overnight.

With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and will let the day unfold around me. GW

Morning report Dec 18/19

Well it is one cold morning here in Port Loring Ontario, Canada. Waking up temperatures were sitting at -18.1 C | -0.58 F. We didn’t have any snow overnight. Highway 522 does have some icy sections throughout and along with some snow covered areas. It will be a good day for travelling but care should be taken. We should also see some sunshine today, but with these cold temperatures you won’t feel the warmth much. With the winds coming in from the North West it will feel just that much colder. Today I have a few things to do around the house here and in my shop so that should keep me out of trouble for a while. With that I am off for a bite to eat. GW

Morning Report Dec 17/19

It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We are having a few flurries off and on, and we will get more later on today and into tonight. We could see around another 3 inches (7.62 cm) by tomorrow morning. After that we should be back to sunshine. On the not so good side of things temperatures are going to drop a lot for the next few nights, so an extra blanket on the bed might be a good thing. We didn’t see any more snow overnight. Highway 522 at the moment is pretty well bare, but it does have a few icy sections here and there, so care should be taken as always, this time of year. For us we don’t have anywhere to go, so we will stay put. The wood heat is feeling good these days and will even be nicer tonight with these cold temperatures entering into the pictures. On another note the birds at my feeder are busy chowing down this morning, which is a sign the cold is heading our way. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee. GW

Morning Report Dec 16/19

Another cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We should see a bit of sunshine off and on throughout the day. Temperatures are cold though sitting at -10.1 C | 13.82 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward. We didn’t have any more snow overnight. I might head on outside a bit later and clean my driveway a bit, not that it really needs it, but it is a way of me getting some exercise. Sitting in the house day in and day out isn’t the way to stay healthy. We all need a bit of fresh air and things. Highway 522 is pretty well bare, but it does have some icy and snow covered areas. Travelling should be pretty good today. The lakes are not safe yet to be travelled on. With that I am off for a bite to eat. Have a great day. GW

Morning Report Dec 15/19

Cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We are having a few flurries off and on. We didn’t have any snow overnight. On the ground now we have around 5 inches (12.7 cm) or so. Temperatures waking up were sitting at -11.9 C | 10.58 F. Not to bad temperature wise. The Celsius is what fools people, making them think it is colder than it really is. Metric to me is a mind thing. The Powers that be knew what they were doing, when they implemented it into our society. It wasn’t for the good of mankind, that’s for sure. Travelling won’t be too good this morning as Highway 522 is a mess with snow covered areas throughout. There is also a lot of icy sections, so care should be taken if out and about. It should improve sometime next week, but we will see some colder weather moving into our area. Not much we can do, it’s winter. Today I will split some kindling for starting my furnace, it needs to be done a few times through the winter. “Good exercise.” Then I will be working away here in my computer. I still have lots to do on a project I am working on. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife, and will take what the day has to offer, and enjoy it. Such is life. GW

Morning Report Dec 14/19

Another cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It has warmed up some with temperatures sitting at -5.1 C | 22.82 F. It will warm up a wee bit more, as the day progresses. We didn’t have any snow overnight. Highway 522 is bare for most parts, but it does have some snow covered areas. So care should be taken if travelling. Not too much happening around town. There is hardly no traffic these days to speak of. That happens when the tourists of summer leave us. Also, this time of year a lot of folks head off to the sunny south for winter, and others are off to do their Christmas and grocery shopping in the big cities. I have to admit that I enjoy heading off to places other than around our area now and then. It gives a fellow a whole new perspective of life, reminding me that there are other things happening in other parts of the world. Sometimes a person can get stuck in a rut, and when that happens its best to breathe some new air I always say and see new things. At any rate I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife, and then put some more wood in our furnace. With this weather we aren’t burning as much which is okay by me. Have a great day.

Morning Report Dec 13/19

Cloudy day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. But in saying that temperatures aren’t as cold. Waking up they were sitting at -1.2 C | 29.84 F. The winds have changed from the North to the South so that in itself makes things more livable. Today things will warm up above the freezing mark which should clear off the Highways making it nicer for folks to do their Christmas shopping. Highway 522 at the moment is partially covered with some icy sections throughout. So … for now care should be taken if out and about. We did have around 2 inches (ca. 5 cm) of new snow overnight. I am hoping this warmer weather will melt it, so I don’t have to clean my driveway again. I would say we have around 8 to 10 inches (25.4 cm) of snow on the ground at the moment. Today I will be working around the house here I have some things to do for Christmas. With that I am off to put some wood in my furnace and then head on for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife. Hmm, maybe I should feed the birds first it looks like the feeder is getting down. Seems the more I put out there the more they eat. But I don’t mind we enjoy watching them. Have a great day. GW

Morning Report Dec 12/19

Cloudy cool morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. No sunshine this morning. On the good side of things we didn’t have anymore snow overnight. Temperatures waking up were sitting at -12.8 C | 8.96 F. Wind is coming in from the North, North West which makes it feel colder than it really is. Temperatures today won’t rise much more than they are now. My wife and I did manage to get our driveway cleaned up yesterday, it took us most the morning. One thing is for certain. We don’t need any exercising equipment in our house. Highway 522 is partially covered with some icy sections. Yesterday was quite a day for snow with a total of around 8 inches (ca. 20 cm) on the ground as of now. There is another 3 inches (ca. 8 cm) or so expected today. The snowmobile folks will have a smile on their face now I bet LOL. Myself I prefer to stay in where it is warm, heading out into the cold doesn’t sound appealing to me one bit. But, to each their own, I always say. The good news is Jamie Mathews fixed up my furnace yesterday so it is working properly again. That fellow sure knows what he is doing let me tell you. If you are ever in need of a furnace man, he is the person to call. He doesn’t work on gas or propane though. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife, and then decide what I want to do today. There is always something to take up ones day it seems. Have a great day. GW

Morning Report Dec 11/19

Well, it sure is one nasty morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Through the night we had around 8 inches (ca. 20 cm) of snow and it is still coming down. Kind of makes a feller want to go back to bed. But … I have to say it sure looks pretty out here. Then again … they also say beauty is in the eye of the beholder LOL. Highway 522 as most would suspect, is snow covered. The plows haven’t been through yet this morning. I guess when it eases off I will have to wake up my snowblower, so I can clean the driveway. The good thing is the snow is very light which will make cleaning up things not so bad. On another note, I have some problems taking place with my oil furnace with it not wanting to run right, so I called my fiend Jamie to have a look see. He is the fellow that looks after us folks around town when it comes to furnaces. Great fellow and does a good job. It’s not so bad though, as even though the oil furnace isn’t putting out any heat the wood furnace is. That’s the nice thing about wood heat, no matter how cold it gets you still have heat. In this country it is always best to have a back up. Actually it is always good to have a back up with everything in life. Eases the mind so to speak. So with that I am off for my morning cup of freshly brewed coffee with my lovely wife, and will see what mischief I can get into. Well … that is what my wife always says.

Morning Report Dec 10/19

Cold morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. But the sunshine is trying to make an appearance. Waking up temperatures were sitting at -14.6 C | 5.72 F. Quite a difference from yesterday. There was no snow overnight, but we did have a heavy frost. We don’t have any snow on the ground as of today. Highway 522 is bare but it does have some icy sections throughout. So care should be taken if out and about. I suspect it will stay cool for the next two or three days then warm up a touch. Looking out my bird feeder is quite busy this morning, mostly Blue Jays coming for their morning feed. They sure are a greedy bunch let me tell you. They don’t even like their own kind much, chasing each other away. But such is Nature, survival of the fittest. Maybe us humans could learn from them. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife, but first I will add a few sticks of wood to the furnace. Might cool in here this morning. A feller doesn’t realize just how cold it is in the house till his feet hits the floor in the morning. Have a great day. GW
