Morning Post Nov 26/19

Cloudy morning waking up in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We could see some sunshine off and on throughout the day. Tomorrow though is another story as we could get some snow with risk of freezing rain. There are warnings up for our area. In reality, it will depend on temperatures and direction. So we will see. This morning it isn’t bad temperature wise sitting at 4.3 C | 39.74 F. It will remain there most of the day. Highway 522 is bare and dry which will make travelling pretty good today. Yesterday my lovely wife and I went to North Bay had lunch with our son and picked up a few things that we were in need of. Seems it takes a full day to go to town no matter what you do. North Bay is getting busy these days with more folks moving into the area, along with new stores and business’s opening all the time. Which is a good thing I suppose. With that I am off for some buttermilk pancakes and a cup of fresh perked coffee. I know … I have it tough, but such is life. LOL Have a great day. GW

Morning Report Nov 24/19

Cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We should see some sunshine off and on throughout the day. This coming Wednesday we could have some really not so good weather with up to 6 inches (15.24 cm) of snow and high winds entering into the picture also. So I would think if you need anything in town today and tomorrow are the days to do it. Temperatures waking up were sitting at 0.2 C | 32.36 F. Highway 522 is bare and dry. Today I will continue on with some work I am doing around the house here. Other than that will take things a bit easy today. Have a great day.

It will warm up some as the day moves forward. It should be a really nice day weather wise. Highway 522 is bare and dry throughout which will make it nice if you have to go to town. Myself I have some work to do around the house here which will keep me busy. Then later on when the sun decides to come out I might just wash my car. There won’t be many more days that I can do that. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee. Have a great day.

Morning report Nov 22/19

Cloudy morning with some flurried taking place here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. No accumulations to speak of through the night. That said it has cooled down a lot since yesterday. Highway 522 is partially snow covered so you will have to take car if travelling. It will remain cold today but some sunshine should break through the clouds shortly. Tomorrow it will warm up some. Maybe I might get to wash my car as it is a mess. Temperatures at the time of this post was sitting at -4.7 C | 23.54. My wife and I took a two-day trip to Coldwater Ontario and the roads were perfect. Had a great time did some visiting with friends. Great trip all way round. Now that we are back I have some work to do around the house here and will start up the wood furnace. Saves on the oil bill. Also, the wood heat takes the chills right out of one’s body. Can’t beat it. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and will see what else the day has in store. Have a great day.

Morning Report Nov 19/19

We have cloudy skies here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada this morning. We didn’t have any accumulations of snow overnight. Waking up temperatures are quite nice sitting at 0.4 C | 32.72 F. It will rise even more, as the day progresses, which will melt a lot of the snow. Tomorrow will be even warmer. We should see some sunshine off and on throughout the day, which will make things just that much nicer. It wouldn’t hurt my feelings if it warmed up, so we could do some front porch sittin’ LOL Highway 522 is bare which will make travelling good. For the past few days I have been writing up stories for my columns and today will be much the same. Once I get them all done up I can get onto some other things I have in mind. Also, Christmas is slowly closing in on us. Man where does time go. Some days to me time almost stops, then other days seem to fly by. I sometimes think we are all connected and part of one universal mind. (Energy) And it controls what we do or think as it so chooses. LOL I have to admit it makes more sense than most of what our scientists think today. LOL At any rate I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife, and will see what the day has in store. Have a great day!

Nice day for a ride

A while back our friend Carrie dropped by with her horse Rhythm. It’s always great to see them, as years ago I had a horse almost identical. Every time I see Rhythm she brings back a lot of memories. And yes a carrot or two was in order. She is a good poser too when it comes to taking pictures. Just look at that hind leg. Made my day. LOL

Morning Report Nov 18/19

Cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We didn’t have anymore snow through the night. Temperatures have warmed up a bit and at the time of this post they were sitting at -2.4 C | 27.68 F. Highway 522 is bare and dry. So knowing that travelling today should be pretty good. On the good side of the coin things will warm up above the freezing mark and stay there for most of the week which should cut down on the heating bill. If temperatures remain warm the snow could be all gone by the end of the week. But as it is the warm weather won’t last for long so enjoy it while you can. Today I will be working on a story or two for my columns. I like to get them done up for winter, so I can get onto other things I enjoy. With that I am off for my morning chat with my lovely wife and will see what the day has in store. Every morning is like opening Christmas presents. You just never know what a day might bring. LOL Have a great day.

Visitor at our bird feeder

Now I said my lovely wife and I enjoy watching the birds that come to visit our feeder every day, but today we had a different kind drop by for a visit. The pictures aren’t as good as I would have liked as I had to take them through my screen. I didn’t want to scare it off. We get quite a few deer drop by throughout the winter. Nice to see. A couple days ago we had a young one say hello. I was wondering where its Mother was.

My Old Homestead

Some of you have asked me if I had a picture of where I was raised in Coldwater, Ontario, in the early days. These folks Adopted me and raised me from around 5 Years old till around 13 Years old. Reg and Laura Potter. The Nicest folks you could ever meet. They treated me as one of their own from the very first day. Later on in life I went back to my Dads in Beamsville Ontario for a while, then I took up fruit farming. We took the pictures one winters day from the road above the property looking down. The farm was mostly dedicated to Dairy Farming at the time. Great memories for sure.

Out for a Walk

Here are a couple pictures I took while out with a friend of mine awhile ago. We think as humans we are good at taking down trees, but these critters are pretty good at it too, and they don’t mind how large or how small they are. LOL One thing is for sure, they love Yellow Birch. Can’t say I blame them, as I like it too when cut into lumber for making some choice items in the woodworking shop. It has a unique grain in it that stands out when you hit it with a natural stain and add three coats of urethane. Thought I would share.

Morning Report Nov 17/19

We are having a wee bit of sunshine here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada this morning. But in saying that it is cool. We didn’t have any more snow through the night. Temperatures were sitting at -9 C | 15.8 F at the time of this post. A feller would have to put a shirt on, if they were going outside. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning so the snow plows can have a bit of a rest today. I suspect we will see some sunshine off and on for most of the day. It would be a good day to go for provisions if needed. Myself I am going to take it a bit easy today, and if the urge hits I might write up a story or two for my columns. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and bug my lovely wife for a bit. Have a great day.

Morning Report Nov 16/19

Sunny morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. But it is cold with temperatures sitting at -15.6 C | 3.92 F. It will warm up a wee bit as the day moves forward. Not by much though. Through the night we didn’t have anymore snow. Which is okay with me. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, the snow plows finally got things cleaned up. Total snow from our last episode was around 5 inches (12.7 cm). It took my wife and I most the morning yesterday to clean the decks and driveway along with helping a friend clean her deck. After that I was hurting a bit, so I will take things a bit easy today. Sometimes too much work isn’t a good thing. LOL. Seems the older I get the more I feel things. My mind says things are like I was around 30 but my body says different. LOL. At any rate, rest is my objective today. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and a bite to eat. Have a great day.

Morning Post Nov 15/19

It’s a cold morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Temperatures were sitting at -3.3 C | 26.06 F. Tonight will be very cold and it will stay with us into tomorrow. On the good side we should see some sunshine as the day moves forward. Always nice to have some sunshine. At the moment it is cloudy with light flurries. Highway 522 is snow covered with icy sections throughout. The snow plow just went by but the highway is still partially covered. So care should be taken when out an about. Today my lovely wife and I will get busy and clean off our decks and our driveway. That should be enough exercise for the day. Once done maybe a nice hot drink will be in order. With that I am off for a bite to eat and will get my body into work mode. Have a great day.

Morning Post Nov 14/19

Cloudy morning here in Port Loring Ontario, Canada. We did have around 3 inches (7.62 cm) of snow through the night. At the moment we are having a few flurries and it will continue throughout the day and into tonight. Tomorrow we should see some sunshine, which would be nice. On the good side of the coin it isn’t as cold this morning with temperatures sitting at -3.5 C | 25.7 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward. Highway 522 is snow covered with icy sections throughout, so care should be taken if out and about. Yesterday my wife and I went to North Bay for provisions which one has to do now and then. The stores were quite busy which tells me folks are spending money. The price of things nowadays have sure risen and I also found the quality of the vegetables aren’t that great. In some stores the fruits and things were laying there rotten. A person has to take care in what they are buying these days. But there are bargains to be found if you look hard enough. Also, while there we had lunch with our son Karl and caught up on a few things. Always nice to see him. Our other son Craig is so far away it is hard to visit him, but we do chat on line now and then. There is something to say for modern technology. With that I am off to put some more wood in my wood furnace and then will see what the day has in store. Have a great day.

Morning Report Nov 13/19

It’s not a bad looking day here for us in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We do have a wee bit of sunshine sneaking through the clouds. It is cold though with temperatures sitting at -13.6 C | 7.52 F. Today we shouldn’t see too much snow but later on in the afternoon and into tonight there are warnings up for more snow. So just when you think we are going to have a few days of sunshine Mother Natures does what she wants. Things will remain this way for most the winter now with not really knowing what is going to happen. Joys of living in the north. Highway 522 in Port Loring is bare and dry this morning so travelling will be good until later on in the day. Today I will finish up some work around the house here. Have a great day!

Morning Post Nov 12/19

We are having a wee bit of sunshine this morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. For how long its anyone’s guess. Temperatures are cold sitting at -14.1 C | 6.62 F. The coldest morning so far. Highway 522 is partially covered with light snow … and some ice. If this sun stays with us it should melt for better driving as the day moves forward. We didn’t have any snow overnight and as of now we have around 4 inches (10.16 cm) on the ground. We could see a few flurries throughout the day. With temperatures being so cold my old wood furnace is feeling good these days. Heat from wood seems to warm every part of the body. Especially when you come in from the outside. Today I will take it a bit easy. Maybe write up a story or two if I think of one. Over the years I have written so many it’s hard coming up with one that gets me going these days. With that bit of information under your hat, I am heading off to put some feed in my bird feeder and then into me. Maybe a cup of fresh perked coffee after that. Have a great day.
