Happenings In And Around Port Loring Ontario

Good Morning:  Cool morning starting things off.  Temperatures were sitting at 7.1 C | 44.78 F.  Will warm up a touch a bit later as the day moves forward.

Forecast For Today:  Becoming fine..  Temperatures will remain pleasant, not to hot not to cold for most of next week.

Bug Report:  Mosquitoes are annoying folks a lot these days along with the blackflies.  One can’t be standing around for any length of time.  Hard to get away from the mosquitoes as they follow a person into the dwellings.  Blackflies like to reside outside if at all possible.  Couple more weeks and the worst should be over.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and dry through out.   Travelling couldn’t be better.

Fishing Times:  Today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 6:00 AM – 9:00 AM.  Then again from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating for catching a few this morning and a 3 fish rating for catching a few this afternoon.  Winds this morning are once again calm coming in from the North North East.  The air is cool this morning, but the sun is nice.

Around Town:  Not  much to report here this morning.  Folks are sleeping in a bit as hardly a car moving up or down the highway.  That will change with more tourists moving into the area every day.  Gardens are looking good these days with plants growing leaps and bounds.  I suspect I should be eating lettuce in the next couple days. Garlic also is putting on a great show.  Up to a height of around15 inches.  Going to be a great crop this year.  Nothing more healthier than a piece of raw garlic every other day.  Don’t need to much as it has a lasting effect.  With that, tea time here.  Thinking an orange pekoe will taste good this morning.  Enjoy your weekend and stay safe. Forecast For Today:  Rather unsettled clearing later.  Will warm up some as the day progresses with lots of sunshine.

Bug Report:  Blackflies and Mosquitoes are annoying folks quite a bit these days.  Wind though yesterday kept them at bay for most parts.  I see the dragon flies are back for another year so they will make short work of the insects that bother us humans.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and dry throughout.  Great weather for travelling, hiking or just plain walking.

Fishing Information:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 9:00 AM- 12:30 PM.  Then again later on from 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few this morning and a 4 fish rating out of 5 this afternoon.  Winds this morning are calm coming in from the south south west.  Good Luck!

Good Morning:  Nice looking day starting things off.  Temperatures were sitting at 12.3 C | 54.14 F.

Forecast For Today:  Possible showers early, improving as they day progresses.  Should be sunny now for the remainder of the week with nice warm temperatures.

Bug Report:  Lots of blackflies and mosquitoes annoying folks these days.  Just no getting away from them.  In hopes the dragon flies make an appearance soon in our area which will help out immensely.  Did see quite a few while driving yesterday so they are here in certain areas.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and dry these days. A few deer and moose are still venturing out onto the highway.  Coming in last night my wife and I spotted a huge old cow standing right in the middle of the road.  She ventured off when we got close but soon as we left she came right back onto the highway.  Nice too see but sure wouldn’t be nice if you hit one.  So take care when out and about.

Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.  Then once again from 4:00 PM – 6:30 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Winds this morning are coming in from the south south west at 0.8 m/s | 2.88 km/h | 1.79 mph.   Good Luck!

Around Town:  Well my wife and I took a couple days and went to pick up our new health book.  Just got home last night.  Had a great time away.  Seems one needs a break now and then.  So for those that are interested in the new Health Book which is called Natures Gateway To Health it is here at our home now to purchase. Actually we sold ten books on the way home to folks along with two more locations wanting to sell them for us.  So lots of interest for sure.  Tea time here.  Orange Pekoe with a touch of dandelion sounds good to me this morning.  Might even do some front porch sitting if these pesky blackflies leaves us alone long enough.  Have a great day.  You can reach George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare throughout.  Travelling will be good for those venturing out.

Fishing Report:  This morning the old weather stick is saying the best time to be out there will be from 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Not the greatest day for fishing.

Happenings In & Around Port Loring

Good Morning:  Cloudy day here in Port Loring.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at 16.6 C | 61.88 F.

Forecast For Today: Unsettled, probably improving as the day moves forward.  Sunshine will re-enter into the picture tomorrow.  Might see a wee  bit of sunshine later on in the day if we are lucky.  Thinking more clouds than sunshine along with a few showers.  Temperatures will also remain a touch cooler. Makes it nice for sleeping and working if the urge hits.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and wet from east to west.  Lots of deer and moose roaming the highway  so care should be taken.  Also seen a few turtles.   They like to lay their eggs along side of the highway as the pavement when hot keeps their eggs warm.  So please if you see one trying to cross the road slow down and go around.

Bug Report:  Lots of blackflies these days irritating folks along with the mosquitoes.   It’s a norm for this time of year.  Good idea to brush yourself off before going into the house as they like to hide in ones clothing.  Don’t need them biting you in the night while trying to sleep.

Fishing Report:  This morning the old weather stick along with my Grandfathers formula says that the best times to be out there with pole in hand will be from 7:00 AM – 9:30 AM.  Then once again later on this afternoon from 2:00 PM – 4:30 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.   Winds this morning are quite breezy coming in from the North West at around 5 mph with gusts up to 15 mph.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Stores and other places are a touch slow.  But that is to be expected this time of year.  Resorts are getting things cleaned up readying for the upcoming season.  Lots of work goes into keeping them suitable for folks to stay in.  Myself I have been busy working away on my boat getting things cleaned up for the fishing season.  Looking forward to getting out there once the blackflies have had their way with us humans and critters.   Few more weeks to go yet then should be rid of them for another year.  Gardens I planted a week ago are slowly edging upwards.  Thinking we had enough rain now for a spell which will speed them along a bit.  Nice to watch things mature through the first few months after planting.  Then to be rewarded with vegetables you know are safe to eat.  So with that, enjoy your day,  You an reach George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Happenings In And Around Port Loring Ontario

Good Morning:  Nice looking day out there this morning.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at 15.9 C | 60.62 F.

Forecast For Today:  Should see lots of sunshine this morning. Later on in the afternoon things will start to cloud up with some thunderstorms possible late in the day or this evening.  Things will cool down quite a bit for tomorrow and Sunday.  Rainy day possible for tomorrow and cool and sunny for Sunday.

Bug Report:  Lots of Blackflies around these days.  Mosquitoes are also out in full force annoying folks.  In some areas they are quite bad this year.  If your new to the area a bug jacket would be recommended or till you get used to them.  Seems that some folks they don’t bother to much where others they can be quite destructive.  Their bites are not pleasant and itch for a long time after being bit.  The only thing that I have found that helps with the itch is plantain leaf, chewed and put on the bite or some real lemon juice squeezed mixed with apple cider vinegar, mixed 50 – 50.  Hope this helps.

Highway Report: Highway 522 is bare and dry these days.  Deer and moose are making their way onto the highway, with the blackflies and mosquitoes driving them out of the bush.  So care should be taken if out and about.  Other than that travelling will be good.  Great day to head off to do your shopping or what ever.

Fishing Information:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there with pole in hand will be from 8:00 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then once again a bit later on from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM.  I give it a 4 fish rating for catching a few this morning and a 5 fish rating out of 5 this afternoon.  Great day to pull in a few.  Winds this morning are coming in from the South at around 5 mph.  Good Luck and enjoy the weekend.

Around Town:  Not to much to report.  Folks are moving around a bit these days.  Lots of cars moving up and down the highway.  Not sure where they are all going but just the same it is good to see folks out and about.  Myself I am just cleaning up around the place and today will be working on my old boat getting it ready for fishing season. I like playing around doing what I enjoy.  That is what life is all about.  All work and no play isn’t in my books the way to go.  Life is short and as the old saying goes, we are placed here on earth to learn and have fun.  Enjoy your day, make it a great day.  You can reach George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Around Town.  Took a drive to North Bay a bit ago picking up a few items of choice.  Always amazes me how many people are out shopping on a work day.  Good to see though.  Also the trip to North Bay itself was enjoyable, as all the colours of the leaves that are beginning to form sure looks pretty.  Could say it is fall colours in the spring.   You get reds, light greens dark greens and browns of all shades.  Really something to see and take in.  So many things like this go unnoticed.  My old dad used to say.  “George, You have to take the blinders off and look around.  If you don’t you won’t see anything.”  Words of wisdom you might say.   That theory goes for a lot of things.  I wrote a whole article on them words in my new book which will be ready to purchase later on next week.  With that enjoy your day, make it a great day.  No one can do that but you.   You can reach George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Around Town:  Well yesterday wife and I got busy and planted our vegetable gardens.   Takes a bit of doing but the rewards are in abundance in a few short weeks.  Figured with this warm weather at nights and rain in the forecast it would be a perfect time to get things in the soil.  Now can sit back and reap the harvest so to speak.  Other than a bit of hoeing here and their, which I enjoy doing.  Seems out amongst the plants the mind is eased of its thoughts and things are brought back to their right perspective.  Today I have some inside work to look after so will be attending that in a bit. First though is my morning tea.  Corn silk tea here with a touch of dandelion leaf.  Nothing is more healthier.  Make your day a good one.  Just because it is gloomy out there all is well.   You can reach George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Over the years I have found it doesn’t pay to get to carried away with planting early.  After the 24th and the full moon has served me well over the years and saved me a lot of work, grief and expense.  Tea time here.  Thinking dandelion freshly dug with a touch of English breakfast.  Good for what ails you in all avenues.  Have a great day.   You can reach George Walters at [email protected]

FIshing Report:  This morning the old weather stick is sayng that the best times to be out there will be from 7:30 AM – 9:00 AM.  Then once again a bit later on in the afternoon from 3:00 PM – 5:00 PM.  I give it a 1 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  Not the greatest day for pulling them in.  Winds this morning are calm coming in from the North East.

Around Town:  Very quiet day here this morning.  Folks sleeping in or heading off to town.  Seems to be the trend thiese days. Myself, I will be piling some firewood for next winter.   Then will get into getting my veggetable gardens done up for the year.  Will pick up some plants and things next weekend.  I sure enjoy the outdoors, nothing can be more pleasing than to take in what Mother Nature has to offer.  She is a true being to be studied and enjoyed.  With that enjoy your day, soak up some of that sunshine, it is what the body needs to maintain a good healthy state.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]
