What’s Happening In Cottage Country on Sep 16/2023

Good Morning!

It’s a cool morning getting out of bed here in Cottage Country. The temperature at the time of this post was sitting at 8.5 C | 47.3 F. But in saying that it will warm up a lot as the day moves forward.

Highway 522 is quiet these days.

On another note, I did get to taking apart an old boat trailer I had lying around for a while. Things worked out well, and now I have a bunch of parts and steel I can use to make things with in the future if need be. And another thing is it doesn’t take up a lot of room now, that it’s been taken apart. Actually I enjoyed taking it apart which took me three hours or so while enjoying the sunshine. It’s nice to be able to do these things.

Today I will put the parts away where I can get at them and then clean up my shop a wee bit, as when I get to working on things it seems, as my wife says … “You sure can make a mess.” She is right, too.

My wife and I also cleaned up a portion of our vegetable garden yesterday, pulling out our tomato plants for another year along with some pesky weeds. We will do the rest once what we have still growing is finished for the year, which is some cucumbers, acorn squash, lettuce, spinach and beans. Oh, and some of our peppers haven’t turned color yet, so leaving them on for a touch longer. But if it looks as if we are going to have some frost, I will pick them. As I don’t want to lose them. They are a nice size this year and will make for some really nice red and yellow pepper jelly. My lovely wife is a master at making it, and it sure tastes good on some crackers with cheese, or other things of choice. Just one more item that will save us some money come winter, along with eating healthy. It’s nice to be self efficient, which my wife and I have been all our life’s.

With that I am off for an egg on lettuce with a sliced up tomato which should hold me till lunchtime. I stopped eating bread as I found over the years it causes a lot of inflammation in the body. I feel a lot better not eating it, and truth be told I don’t miss it one bit. We use lettuce instead for making sandwiches. Along with the occasional thin wrap. Hmm, maybe being so cool outside, I might take a few extra minutes and have a hot chocolate. Just because I can.

Have a great day! GW

Good Morning!

It once again looks as if our day here in Cottage country is going to be nice. However, it was a touch cool waking up with the temperature sitting at 8.1 C | 46.58 F. It will warm up a lot as the day moves forward, which will allow my lovely wife and I to do some more front porch sittin’ later on in the day. Yesterday we had our coffee outside on our swing under the Basswood tree, enjoying each other’s company along with taking in nature that was trying to get our attention. It’s pretty amazing what one can see, hear and smell if they take the time to do these things. The older I get, the more I value the time I have left and what is truly important in life. And for those that hasn’t gone that far yet in life. It isn’t about money or material objects.

On another note, my wife and I got the mowing out of the way yesterday, which sure made things look nice around our home. Today I am planning on taking apart this old boat trailer I have saving all the parts for some projects I have in mind later on. I have found over the years that it’s well worth saving these things, as one never knows when you might need a piece of steel or what ever. Just when you throw it out, well … that’s when you’re going to be needing it. And with the cost of things these days, a person can save a lot of money in doing so. But then again, you do have to have the knowledge to do a lot of things to make things work, which I have found that a lot doesn’t possess.

With that I am off for my Egg McMuffin with an egg, cheese, tomato, lettuce with a piece of farm fresh bacon just because I can, that my pretty little woman is preparing for me. You know, she makes it look so appetizing that it’s almost a shame to eat it. But you can bet I won’t let it go to waste!”

“Have a wonderful day! As I always say, if you want to stay healthy, go outside and enjoy the sunshine. It’s even better for you than a flu shot.” GW

Good Morning!

It looks like we are in for a real nice day here in Cottage Country. We were, in the midst of some clouds, but as I gaze out, I see lots of blue sky heading our way. Which is nice as my lovely wife and I have some mowing around the house here to do today. We like to keep it looking nice, as we enjoy taking it all in when all said and done. There are some downfalls living where we do, but there are more good things than bad, especially watching nature unfold around us at any given time. There isn’t a window in our home that when looking out is like looking at a picture.

That’s why we came to live here many years ago. It used to be very peaceful. But now, during the summer, it’s becoming less quiet. Some people call it progress, but for my wife and me, it feels like we’re losing a special, timeless place. But it’s still better than living, or being close to the large cities, that’s for sure.

Highway 522: Not much traffic these days, but we are still having a few folks drop by our one of a kind gift shop, where everything in our store is made by my wife and I. Things you have never seen before that can’t be had anywhere else. Many have tried to copy us over the years, but never succeeded. Makes me smile.

On another note, yesterday being so wet, we didn’t do much outside. My wife however did do up some Prune Jam which sure is tasty. It will be nice to get into this winter. She’s truly an incredible woman. Despite having a lot on her plate, she manages to find time to prepare for winter and take care of things, along with me and our boys, which is a job in itself.

With that, I am off for another Egg McMuffin and will then see what the day has in store … other than we have planned.

Have a great day and when the sun gets to shinnin’ get out there and soak some of it up, as your body needs it to stay healthy through the long winter, which isn’t that far off. The more sun … the less sickness. GW

Good Morning!

It’s a cool, wet morning here, waking up. We did have a lot of heavy rain yesterday and through the night. However, in saying that things will be gin to clear, and tomorrow we should see some sunshine which will be nice. We need the rain with the trees and plants heading into winter, but we also need some sunshine, which strengthens them, along with us humans.

Highway 522: It has been relatively quiet the past few days with a lot of campers, tourists and cottagers heading back to the cities, leaving us here in cottage country for another year to fend for ourselves, which we always manage to do as most of us are self-reliant.

On another note, my lovely wife and I decided to take a trip to North Bay yesterday to pick up some groceries and things. I have to tell you, it was challenging getting in and out of the stores with the heavy rain. And of all days, I forgot my damn hat. Ha ha. But we made do and managed to get most everything we went for. Things are sure expensive these days. Once we picked up our items, we had lunch in our car while people watching and then poured ourselves a cup of coffee and headed on home, taking in what nature had to offer along our way. All in all, it was a good day, other than spending money and the rain.

Today ... I am not sure what we will be doing with it being so wet and all. I might bring up an old boat trailer I have had for a while. It needs a lot of work and if the axles are good I will fix them and then convert it into a trailer that I can haul things around on. If that don’t work out, I will take it apart and use the steel for other things. You can never have enough old rusty steel lying around to fix or make things out of. At any rate, here again we will see how that works out. I do however, still have to clean up our vegetable gardens, but we still have some tomatoes, cucumbers and things left. Folks are still wanting them that I put on our trailer out front of our home. My wife and I have been enjoying them daily as it won’t be long before you can’t get them anymore, or at least the ones that look, tastes and smells like a tomato. But we do have lots in our freezer and done up in jars, which will sure be nice this winter. Along with a lot of other things.

So … with that I am off for an Egg McMuffin, with cheese, crispy bacon, portabella mushrooms, tomato and lettuce, that my little woman is putting together for me. She is one great cook, that woman of mine. It’s better than any you can buy at a restaurant, that’s for sure. And along with that, it gives a feller the protein he needs to get through a day. It’s almost … healthy, too. Ha ha. Now where did I put that damn hat of mine?

Have a good day, make it a good day! GW

What’s Happening In Cottage Country On Sept 11/2023

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy morning, waking up in cottage country. We didn’t have any rain through the night, but it does look like we might get a bit later on in the day. The good part is it isn’t too cold out this morning, and we didn’t have to turn on any heat. Which saves us some money as oil isn’t cheap these days, or is propane for that matter. Funny really, as the Powers that be went all gun ho getting everyone to switch over to propane saying it’s cheaper when in reality it isn’t. Gas and propane don’t cost less to make than oil because they all come from the same crude oil, and the process to get them ready for your tractor, car, truck or stove isn’t all that different. It’s like making different pies with the same apples – the core work is pretty similar, so the costs don’t vary much. One thing is for certain, the powers that be are good at is pulling the wool over certain individuals eyes. Ha ha.

Highway 522: Is still quiet these days other than a few locals moving around. There are a few tourists still in our area, as we have had a few drop by our gift shop.

On another note, my lovely wife pretty well has us stocked up on things for winter now. It took her about a month of working over a stove, but we sure will enjoy them throughout the winter months, which will save us a lot of money, especially these days with what they are charging for things. It’s amazing how they can get away with charging these prices. And feel it’s justified. So what should one do? Well, other than growing your own produce or buying directly from a farmer and doing things up that you like, that’s about it. Complaining doesn’t help a bit. I have found that if there is a will there is a way of getting around things, it all boils down to the individual themselves. The thing is I personally believe that our powers to be today doesn’t want you to become self efficient, they want you needing them, in doing so they have you under their control. I am not sure why some folks can’t see that, but … to each their own, I always say. For my wife and I we overcame a hell of a lot of hardships and obstacle’s in our day, and you know … we became stronger in doing so and I like to think a lot wiser. Anyway, enough of that, I am off for a boiled egg and some cottage cheese along with a slice of tomato from our own garden. Which should keep me going for the morning.

Have a great day! GW

What’s Happening In Cottage Country on Sept. 10/2023

Good Morning, and how are you all doing this morning?

Good I hope.

Looking outside, it’s a nice morning with lots of sunshine. However, it is a touch cool, with the temperature sitting at 11.6 C | 52.88 F. But it should warm up a bit as the day moves forward. We did turn on our oil furnace this morning to warm things up a bit. This time of year, things get a touch damp.

Highway 522: It’s still quiet and will remain that way now for the rest of the year. Which is fine with us as after a busy summer we are ready for a rest. But that’s not saying we won’t be doing some front porch sittin’ on the nice warm sunny days.

On another note, I took it somewhat easy yesterday as my old body wasn’t moving too good, but things are improving slightly, which is a good sign. Today I will see about doing a bit outside if I feel up to it. We will see how that works out.

With that, I am off for some pancakes this morning with some of my lovely wife’s freshly made peach sauce on top, which should be tasty.

Have a great day. GW

What’s Happening In Cottage Country On Sept. 9/2023

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy morning here, waking up in cottage country. However, looking at the sky, things are about to change as I can see a lot of blue sky making its way into our area. Which in turn should warm things up a touch … as getting out of bed we did have to turn on our oil furnace to warm things up a bit. The temperature at the time of this post was sitting at 10.9 C | 51.62 F. But things will warm up as the day moves forward. So we all best enjoy the warmth and sunshine while we can. I know my wife and I will. But in saying that, we still have a wee bit of things that needs attending before the freezing temperatures set in. Which is only a month away.

Highway 522 is very quiet these days, with most tourists and cottagers back in the cities. But in a month the hunters will head our way, hoping to put some meat in the freezer for winter. That will continue until December. After that, the only movement in our area will be the locals picking up their mail and things.

On another note, I didn’t do much yesterday, with my body not up to par as it should be. So I took it easy. Today I feel a bit better, but not good enough to get out there and do too much. I might put in our storm windows upstairs later on with my wife’s help. She has most of the preserves done up now for winter. She might do up a few more low acid tomatoes before they go bad, it’s a shame to waste them. And … I like them.

With that I am off for a boiled egg and some cottage cheese and then will see what the day has in store other than what I have planned.

Have a great day! GW

What’s Happening On Sept. 8/2023 In Cottage Country

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy, wet morning here, waking up in cottage country. Although the rain has stopped now. Which is fine with me as I am looking forward to some sunshine and some front porch sitting. I guess my body is telling me I need a rest, as once I finished the mowing yesterday, I could hardly walk again. I guess I have been pushing myself too much. So I will have to take it easy for a spell. Other than that, I did get the mowing out of the way for another week. My lovely wife did up more preserves along with making some peach jam, which turned out great. We will sure enjoy it this winter, actually I am thinking it would go good on a toasted bagel this morning. Just because I can.

Highway 522: It is very quiet these days, hardly anyone moving around. The hot now cool wet weather didn’t/isn’t helping things any. On our trip down South of us a couple of days ago, the highways were also quite without hardly no vehicles on the highways going south or north.

On another note, today I am not going to be doing much feeling like I am, I think I will just relax in my lazy boy chair and if I am up to it maybe write a story or two for my columns in the newspapers I write for.

Have a great day and if the sun comes out, try and soak a bit of Vitamin D3 up as our bodies need to store it up for winter. GW

What’s Happening In Cottage Country On Sept. 7/2023

Good Morning!

Well, it’s a cloud morning here, waking up in cottage country. We did have a few showers through the night, but nothing to write home about. The power also went off for a half hour or so early this morning, but then came back on.

Highway 522: It has slowed down a lot, traffic wise, which is a sign of what’s to come with folks leaving our area heading back home for winter. Can’t say I blame them, neither. Although with the hot weather we have had for the past three or four days, one sure wasn’t thinking of the cold. But that is behind us now as the cooler weather will slowly be edging into our area.

On another note my lovely wife and I went down to Coldwater Ontario to visit a friend of ours as she is getting up there in years. We had a good visit and then headed back home taking in what nature has to offer which is a lot if a person takes the time to notice what is going on around them.

Today I am thinking of mowing our grass if it doesn’t rain anymore, but we will have to see how that goes. I also have to pick some more tomatoes and put them on the trailer out front, as a lot of folks are wanting them, being so tasty and all. It will be along while soon before we get any more of the fresh ones.. But my wife and I are good in that department, as she has steadily been making relish and putting them in the freezer. Today she is going to do up some peach and strawberry jam along with putting some beans in the freezer. I am very luck to have a woman that likes and knows how to do these things along with being a heck of a good cook among other things. She is a woman of many talents.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal and will then see what the day has in store.

Have a great day. GW

Northern Ontario’s Cottage Country: Uncover the Latest Happenings!

Good Morning!

It’s another really nice morning here in Cottage Country. The sun is shinning and at the moment the temperature is just right. However, it will warm up a lot as the day moves forward and remain warm for tomorrow and the next day. After that, things will start to cool down. Looking outside, the trees are starting to show their color and the apples are starting to fall from their tree. Another sign change is in our midst.

Highway 522 was quiet yesterday, being a holiday and hardly any stores open. Today things will pick up. Although our store was open, and we did have a fair amount of folks dropping by to say hello and pick up a few things.

On another note. Yesterday, besides talking to people, I did get our vegetable garden cleaned up. I also dug up our corn stalks and put them away for October when my lovely wife uses them for decoration, which she is good at.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal, and then I think I will wash our car. It’s getting a bit dusty sitting in the carport. Looks and runs nicer when cleaned up, and we feel better driving it.
Have a great day. GW

“September 3 in Northern Ontario’s Cottage Country: Uncover the Latest Happenings!”

Good Morning!

By the looks of things, it is shaping up to be another really nice day here in Cottage Country. The sun is shinning without hardly a cloud in the sky. However, it will get a lot warmer today and even hotter tomorrow. We might even break some temperatures on Monday and Tuesday. But after Wednesday, things will start to cool back down to where it is normal for our area.

Highway 522: It was really busy yesterday with cars, bikes, trucks and campers coming in from all over. I guess they are taking advantage of what we have here in the north before the weather changes to not so good.. I can’t say I blame them, neither.

On another note, I worked all day yesterday around the house here and in my Old Woodworking shop. I pretty well have it cleaned up to where I like it. It’s been a long time coming. Today I have some more items I want to sell, like a small trailer and an Electric Snowblower, which is great for decks and things. The snowblower is new, I bought it thinking I would use it to help our neighbor, but it didn’t pan out as I expected. So I will put them out front and see if anyone is interested., You never know. And after that I am thinking I will enjoy a coffee on the front porch with my lovely wife. Taking in what nature has to offer. We still have some tomatoes left for sale, which are very tasty.

With that, I am off for a bite to eat. Not sure what yet, I haven’t made up my mind. Some days are like that.

Have a great day, make it a great day. GW

“September 2 in Northern Ontario’s Cottage Country: Uncover the Latest Happenings!”

Good Morning!

It is one beautiful day here in Cottage Country. The sun is showing off without hardly a cloud in the sky. No need for any heat in the house this morning, actually we have the windows open, which is nice.

Yesterday I worked outside leveling the driveway with the new blade I made out of scrap, and I have to tell ya it worked slick. I had it all done and looking good in less than an hour. So now I will be able to freshen up the driveway once a month throughout the summer. Kind of nice, and the best part of it all it didn’t cost me a cent, and along with that I don’t have to buy any new gravel.

Highway 522 is still quiet, but we are having a few folks drop by our gift shop, along with picking up some tomatoes now and then. Today I will clean up my shop as it is a mess from my last project. After that, I am thinking some front porch sittin’ will be in order.

With that I am off for a bagel this morning with some grape jam that was made by my lovely wife and will then see what the day has in store other than what I have planned. I never know, really.

Have a great day! GW

“September 1 in Northern Ontario’s Cottage Country: Uncover the Latest Happenings!”

Good Morning!

It’s a nice morning, waking up in Cottage Country. The sun is out of bed, showing off with just a few lazy clouds. However, with the temperature getting up sitting at 14.6 C | 58.28 F we did turn on our oil furnace for a few minutes to take the dampness out of the house. It felt good too. It seems the older I get, the more I dislike the cold. But I am not complaining, mind ya, as it is nice to be able to get out of bed.

Highway 522; It has been quiet for the past few days, being that the kids are going back to school and the parents are spending their hard-earned dollars getting them prepared. It’s nice to be able to do that if you have the money. And right now a lot of people haven’t got it to spare.

On another note, yesterday my lovely wife and I did manage to get all the grass cut around our home here along with the weed eating which makes it look just that much better. After that I had a rest and then worked away here making a small blade to drag behind my 4 Wheeler. Not sure how it is going to work as I made it from some scrap pieces of heavy steel I had lying around. We will experiment today. It’s amazing, though, what a feller can make out of some pieces of metal and an arch welder. I bought one a few years ago and just got to using it now. I used to do a lot of welding on the farm, as there was usually always something that needed fixing, and to get someone other than yourself to do it for you… well let’s just say, a farmer is a man of many talents.

With that, you all have a great day, enjoy the nice weather while it lasts. GW

What’s Happening In Cottage Country On August 31/2023

Good Morning!

It’s a sunny morning here, waking up in cottage country with the temperature sitting at 9.4 C | 48.92 F. However it will warm up a lot as the day moves forward.

Highway 522: Yesterday was a busy day for us at our gift shop, with folks coming in to say hello and picking up a few items of choice. We have also had a lot of folks buying our tomatoes and vegetables for the past week. Yesterday, all I put out on our trailer sold by 4:00 PM. I will replenish it later this morning as we do still have more tomatoes’ Roma, Yellow Low Acid and regular Early Girls. Anyone who has bought our tomatoes or vegetables has always come back saying how good they tasted. Why is that? Simple really as they are all organic, not grown in a Green house or by Hydroponic means. They are grown right where they should be in good soil with a bit of love of the land from me and my lovely wife throw in for good measure.

Switching gears, today is the day we’re going to mow the lawn. My wife and I will be busy with that in the morning. Once we’re done, we like to relax on our front porch and admire how neat and tidy the yard looks.

With that, I am off for a boiled egg and some cottage cheese along with a sliced up tomato taken right from our garden this morning. Can’t beat that for a breakfast to get a fellow moving.

Have a great day. GW

What’s Happening In Cottage Country On August 30/2023

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy morning here in cottage country, and along with that we are having a wee bit more rain. The rain started around 3 yesterday afternoon. Kind of a dismal sort of day. But the trees and plants need it with them preparing for their long sleep, which isn’t that far off. But in saying that, we are going to have a few more hot days before the cold enters into the picture. Which should arrive for Saturday, Sunday, Monday with Tuesday being the warmest. So summer isn’t finished with us yet.

On another note, my lovely wife is still doing up preserves for winter, it won’t be long now before we pick our Acorn Squash. They are ready now, but I like to leave them on till the last minute, in doing so they last all winter long. I also have been busy putting firewood in for winter for the past two days, and I should have it finished after one more day. Then other than cleaning up our vegetable garden we will be ready for what ever comes our way weather wise. Oh, I will also plant our garlic but that won’t happen until the weather gets really cold.

Highway 522 has slowed down considerably these days with folks leaving the country and heading back to their homes in the cities. And with the kids going back to school, most parents have a lot to do getting things ready. It isn’t like it was years ago, that’s for sure. I was lucky to get a new pencil and an eraser. And when I did get them, they were well-used. I never got new clothes, neither, as what we wore all day on the farm was what we wore to school.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal this morning and will then see what the day has in store for me. Life is sure interesting.

Have a great day! The sun will shine a bit later on. GW

What’s Happening In Cottage Country On August 28/2023

Good Morning!

It’s a sunny morning waking up in cottage country, but in saying that it is a touch cool. It’s the first morning that we had to turn on our oil furnace for an hour or so to take out the dampness and warm things up a bit. My old bones don’t move around as good when it gets cold. It will warm up to where it is nice as the day moves forward.

On another note, we have sold a lot of tomatoes along with other vegetables over the past week or so. I have to admit, the tomatoes are sure tasty this year. We now have some Roma ones for sale as my wife did up pretty well, all we will be needing for winter. They are great for making sauces and things. Lots of pulp and not as much juice. My lovely wife, she just washes them and then dries them and vacuum seals them and puts them in the freezer. Easy to do and come winter when she needs a few for cooking, she simply takes them out of the freezer, runs a bit of hot water over them which removes the skin almost instantly and drops them into what she is cooking. Nice to have when the snow is up around your ears. Today she will be doing up Brussel- Sprouts, Cauliflower and Broccoli. Tomorrow she will be doing up our Shepherd Peppers as she uses a lot of them in different recipes. Shepherd Peppers are huge, big sweet red peppers — very much like standard sweet red Bell Peppers in taste, thickness and colour, but somewhat juicier, and because of their size very easy to work with. Yesterday she also made up some grape jelly which sure will be nice with a toasted bagel this winter along with being good for you, not like that store bought stuff. So she is a busy lady these days.

For myself I think I will start to bring in some of our firewood for winter before it gets too damp outside, as if that happens the wood has a tendency to suck too much moisture, and it doesn’t burn as well as it should. Right now after 4 months or so of drying under our lean-to it is nice and dry, and I like to keep it that way. I won’t bring it all in right away, just the first two rows where the sun has been shinning on it for the past few months. I will let the rest dry a wee bit more. So that is the plan for my day. What are you up too?

Have a great day. GW

What’s Happening In Cottage Country On August 26/2023

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy morning, starting things off. However, we could see some sunshine as the day progresses.

On the other side of the coin, the weather is getting colder, and like I’ve mentioned before, I have a feeling that this winter might not be so great. I think we’re going to get a lot of snow and really chilly temperatures. It might be worse than the winters we’ve had in the last few years. You can just look at how nature is getting ready for it. The fish aren’t biting like they normally do, the leaves on the trees are changing color a lot, and the animals are growing thicker fur.

Even the birds and squirrels are more active than usual, gathering and storing food. My gut feeling is telling me to get things prepared, which is why we’ve been busy making extra preserves and getting ready in ways we don’t usually. I can also sense it in how my body is reacting. So, for those who get ready ahead of time, things will probably be fine. But for those who don’t, they might end up regretting it.

In the end, whatever will happen, will happen. I’m just giving you a heads-up, and what you choose to do with that information is up to you.

On a different topic, my wife and I decided to head into town yesterday because the grapes near our old farm are ripe. My wife wanted to get some Concord grapes to make jelly for the winter. While we were there, we not only got the grapes but also picked up a bunch of other items that we can store away for the winter. My wife always ensures that we have enough supplies to manage on our own if necessary. It’s all about being self-sufficient and not relying on anyone or anything else. We’ve always lived this way and have no plans to change our approach now. Our instincts have served us well over the years.

I think many people could benefit from learning these skills instead of depending so much on authorities. These so-called figures often want you to rely on them, giving them control over what you eat, do, see, read, or hear. Unfortunately, they’ve been quite successful in achieving this.

Anyway, after we gathered what we needed, we had lunch in our car while observing people, and then we headed back home, appreciating the beauty of nature along the way. It was truly a wonderful day.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal and will then see what the day has in store.

Have a great day. GW

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy morning, waking up here in Cottage Country. We didn’t have any rain through the night, but it does look like we might have a shower or two later on. We won’t be seeing much sunshine today.

Highway 522: It has once again slowed down with a lot of folks heading off home, leaving the cottage country behind, as in a week the kids are back to school and the cooler weather will slowly edge back into our area.

On another note, my lovely wife figured I would be tired, so she mowed the grass around our home while Barry and I were out fishing yesterday, along with looking after customers that dropped by our gift shop. She had a busy day too. So … today we don’t have to do that. Which is fine with me as I am still tired from yesterday, and it does look like rain. That woman of mine is sure a worker.

With that, I am off for a poached egg mixed with some red peppers and tomatoes fresh out of our garden, topped off with a bit of 5-year-old cheddar cheese. Can’t beat that for a breakfast to get a feller moving.

Have a great day! GW

What’s Happening In Cottage Country on August 22/2023

Good Morning!

Starting things off, it is a bit cloudy this morning, but we should see some sunshine as the day moves forward. Which would make for a nice day.

Highway 522: It has picked up some, as yesterday we had a lot of people drop by our gift shop, dropping in to say hello and picking up items that they liked. We also have had a lot of folks picking up our tomatoes, which are out front on the trailer for sale. They sure are tasty this year. It is nice seeing and chatting to folks. Makes my day. You know you can learn a lot simply by listening. Something a lot don’t take the time to do these days.

Bug Report: For myself and everyone I have talked to, it has been a good year in that department.

On another note, I did manage to get most of my storage building cleaned up yesterday. I have to tell ya, I sure had a mess on the lawn there for a while. But after straightening things up and moving things around, I now have it in order, so I can get things in and out easily. It’s been a long time coming. Now though I have boxes of things I need to go through which I put in my main shop. If things goes to plan, I will work away on that in a bit. We still have a lot of other things to do getting ready for winter.

With that I am off for a boiled egg and will then see what the day has in store.

Have a great day! GW

What’s Happening In Cottage Country on August 21/2023

Good Morning!

Actually, there isn’t all that much happening in our area these days. However, there has been an uptick in customers dropping by our gift shop. Saturday and Sunday were really busy with folks picking up a few items of choice. It’s nice to see new faces and hear what is happening in other cities and towns. Along with making a few more friends.

We’ve also had a good number of people staying in our cottage over the last month, which was really nice. And I have to mention, all of them really liked what the cottage provides. Right now, we do have a few available slots if anyone is interested. If you want to know about prices and other details, feel free to email us .[email protected]

Highway 522: It has picked up traffic wise with folks taking advantage of the nice weather. Lots of day trippers.

On another note, both my wife and I kept busy yesterday, with me working outdoors on a few projects I have on the go, and my wife doing up tomatoes for winter, along with her housework, looking after customers, making meals and helping me in between, along with other things. Just too many to name. That woman of mine never stops. But she is sure getting lots of produce and vegetables from our garden done up this year, which will save us a lot of money this winter along with eating healthy. Today I have a shed that needs cleaning. I haven’t been able to do it for the past two years, and it’s’ a mess. So … I am thinking I will tackle straightening it up today. We will see how that pans out in a bit.

With that, I am off for a bagel that my lovely wife is making for me.

Have a great day. GW
