Here is a picture of a wood stove that is selling for a fair price these days. Myself, I will stick with the one I got.

Good Morning!
Starting things off, it is a cool morning here in Port Loring. The temperature waking up was sitting at -12.3 C | 9.86 F. It will warm up above freezing a touch later on in the day. And for the next three days it will get even warmer. Kind of nice for this time of year. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, but we could see some flurries later on in the day. So care should be taken if out and about.
For my wife and I we are staying home these days. We only get to town when absolutely necessary.
Yesterday I worked in the shop most of the day. My old scroll saw gave up the ghost and I can’t get parts for it any more. I guess I shouldn’t complain as it is over 30 years old. So I ordered another one, different brand, so we will see how it works out. Hoping it does the job. But I don’t expect it to last as long as my old one. That’s for sure.
Today, being that the weather isn’t all that bad, I am going to organize an outside shed I have. I am thinking I will put our ATV out there, which will give me more room in my woodworking shop. I didn’t want to at first, but since I am not going to be using it till spring, I figured this to be the best solution for now. That should take care of the day, as there is a lot of work to be done moving things around. I guess I should have done that earlier in the year. Live and learn.
With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal and will then see what the day has in store. Other than what I have planned. You never know what a day might bring.
Stay safe.

What’s Happening In & Around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada on Nov 21/2022
Good Morning!
It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring. But in saying that it did warm up a lot through the night with the temperature at the moment sitting at -0.6 C | 30.92 F. It won’t warm up much more than it is now. We could however see another inch or so of snow throughout the day. Highway 522 is mostly bare at the moment. With these warm temperatures we are having, the snow is melting fast. It is also quite windy this morning. It blew my hat off going to the woodworking shop. Had to trudge through snow to retrieve the darn thing.
Yesterday it took my wife and I all morning to clean up the snow we did have. I gave my snowblower a good work out. My wife and I also got our workout for the day too. Seems the older we get, the harder things are to do. But we always seem to manage to get things looked after.
All but getting our roof shingled on our house. You know, I have been trying now for two years to find someone to do it, but they are either too busy, or their prices are too high. We don’t mind paying as long as it is reasonable. I am thinking of maybe seeing if we can make a deal by giving someone a free week staying at our cottage for the labour to install the shingles next spring. They could work one-day, fish the next and so on till it’s finished. Either that or someone that needs the work. I guess we will see how things work out.
If any of you happen to know of someone that can re-shingle a roof, let me know. I would appreciate it.
I would do it, but I am not good with heights any more.
With that I am off for a bowl of cereal and will then head on out to the old woodworking shop. Stay safe.

What’s Happening In And Around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada on Nov 20/2022
Good Morning!
It’s a sunny morning waking up here in Port Loring. However, it is cold outside with the temperature sitting at -12.7 C | 9.14 F. The coldest day so far this winter. I know the first day of winter doesn’t take place till Wednesday, December 21, 2022! But it’s close enough.
One thing is for certain, we did have our share of snow yesterday. Total accumulation here in Port Loring is around 10 – 12 inches and a bit more in drifts. Especially at the end of my driveway where the plow pushes it in. In saying that, we didn’t have as much as some parts of Ontario. Which is fine with me, as it is going to be enough work cleaning up what we do have. I am happy I woke up my snowblower the other day and brought it into my woodworking shop to warm up. It’s going to get a work out later on this morning. I will wait for a bit until it warms up some.
Highway 522 is snow and ice covered. The plow has gone through a couple of times through the night, and it just went by at the time of this post. We could see some more snow tomorrow.
With that, I am off for a bowl of shredded wheat. We run out of porridge. Just my luck. I look forward to it every morning as it stays with ya and gives you a lot of energy.

What’s Happening In & Around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada on Nov 19/2022
Good Morning!
It’s a snowy cool morning here in Port Loring with the temperature getting out of bed sitting at -3 C | 26.6 F. The good news is while nighttime temperatures are going to be cold, the daytime temperatures for the next week or so won’t be all that bad. They will be hovering around the freezing mark throughout the daytime hours. Which is pretty nice, considering we are heading into December. So far, we have had about 2 inches of snow here this morning, but it just started around 8:00 AM. It is sure coming down now. With them big flakes, it will accumulate quite fast. Highway 522 is snow covered, and if you asked my opinion, I would say everyone should stay at home today. But for those that think they can handle anything … go to it. LOL
On another note, I did manage to rearrange my woodworking shop yesterday. Now I am able to keep our snow blower inside where it is warm and dry, along with our ATV. And the best part is I can still work in there. Which is nice. Especially this time of the year. I see so many pieces of equipment these days sitting outside in all kinds of weather, rusting away. Kind of sad, really. When I see them I want to go rescue them LOL.
Today, with the weather being as it is, my lovely wife and I will be staying put. After breakfast, I will head on out to the woodworking shop and see about finishing up the new top I have been working on for the new-old washing machine end table. Should be a real nice one of a kind piece, when my wife finishes doing up her part, with painting a nice scene on the top.
With that, you all have a great day and stay safe. There is a lot of sickness out there right now. My son’s fiancé said she has never been so sick, laid up for a good two weeks in bed, and still not feeling all that well. And she is a strong, strapping gal too.
Anyway, I am off for some homemade Flapjacks my wife is making for us. She says I need a bit of sweetening up.

Snowy Weather For Port Loring Ontario
What’s Happening In & Around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada on Nov 18/2022
Good Morning!
It’s a cold morning here, waking up in Port Loring. Not as cold as Alaska, though, which is a good thing. Although we can get some temperatures that make a feller want to stay in bed occasionally. Seems every passing year, the cold bothers me more. The temperature waking up was sitting at -10.3 C | 13.46 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward. Later on today and through the night, we could see a substantial amount of snow. It depends on if the winds pick up, which can bring in some lake effects. We will have to wait it out to see how much. At any rate, I am thinking I should wake up my snowblower and bring it in where it’s warm for a bit, and then see if it is going to run. Here again, you never know what a machine is going to do in this neck of the woods. Sometimes they start and run just fine. Other times they get a bit cantankerous. Highway 522 is bare and dry for most parts this morning, but there are a few icy sections here and there. So care will have to be taken if out and about. But in saying that, here in the north, care should be taken all the time, no matter where you are going, or what you are doing. You just never know.
Today I am going to see if I can rearrange my woodworking shop a bit, so that I can get my snowblower and my ATV inside where it’s warm. That will be a challenge as my shop is small. Might not be able too. We will see. I hate leaving the equipment I need out in the cold. Next spring I will see about building a place to put things. I am hoping the price of lumber will come down, as right now you have to be rich to do any building. With that, I am off for a bite to eat, and will then head on out to my shop. It should be nice and toasty in there now, I put some wood in the old stove earlier this morning. Stay Safe.

Good Morning!
It’s another cold morning here in Port Loring. The temperature waking up was sitting at-8.7 C | 16.34 F. It won’t warm up much more than it is now. Highway 522 is snow covered with a lot of icy sections throughout. So … knowing that care should be taken if out and about. For my wife and I we are staying home where it is warm and dry. I did light my old shop stove this morning, so it warms things up a bit. I have been keeping it going for the past few days now. Furthermore, I had to move things around, so I could put the ATV inside where it’s warm. Couldn’t see it sitting out in the cold, Ha ha. Yesterday I cleaned it up some, and it is looking pretty nice now. And after giving it a good look over, I found it is in excellent shape. Knowing that eases my mind a lot, as I didn’t get a real good look at it when I bought it. Today I have to take our car in for some new brakes, which I will do after breakfast. Seems there is always something that comes along to take one’s money. And truth be told, things aren’t cheap nowadays. With that I am off for some oatmeal that my lovely wife just brought me and will then get to doing a few things.

What’s Happening In & Around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada On Nov 16/2022
Good Afternoon!
It was a cold morning here in Port Loring. The temperature waking up was sitting at -4.1 C | 24.62 F. It will warm up a wee bit as the day moves forward. We also saw a skiff of snow overnight, just enough to cover our grass. Not enough to warrant me waking up our snowblower. Although I did chip out some ice, so I can get it out of my shed if need be. I have to come up with a better door next summer. One that opens. Highway 522 is partially covered with some snow and ice.
On another note, I bit the bullet and bought a 4×4 Honda Foreman ATV a couple of days ago. Not a new one, as they are priced way too much these days. But the one I bought, being as old as it is … is in great shape. She only has around 3000 Kilometres on the old girl and had only one owner who only used it once a year, and it never sat outside. So once I check things over and polish er up a bit, I am thinking it will be about as good as a brand new one. Honda makes a good ATV. But … we will see how that works out in the coming days. Now I have to learn how to drive it. Amazingly it came with a manual so that will help out a lot. Shows me what all them buttons on the handle bar is all about. Ha ha. But that is what life is all about. LEARNING. I did manage to unload it from my trailer this morning, so it is on the ground at least. I just rolled it down some ramps I have. Took me ten minutes to find neutral. lol
Other than that, not much else happening around our area. Most of the deer hunters have left us for the year. I don’t think they did all that well this year, being so warm. But a few have gotten one, so I hear.
With that, have a great day, what’s left of it and stay safe. Lot of people pretty sick out there these days.

What’s Happening In & Around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada on Nov 12/2022
Good morning!
Well … it’s a cloudy, cool morning waking up here in Port Loring. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 1.5 C | 34.7 F. A touch above freezing. Highway 522 is bare and dry so far this morning, but we could see an inch or two of snow later on in the day. I guess it is that time of year, so I can’t complain too much. Although, I have been liking, the warm weather we have been having for the past month or so. I kind of figure, that with me not being able to move around much for most of the summer, Mother Nature took that into consideration, and decided to give me time to get all my preparations done up beforehand. I appreciate it too.
Yesterday, my wife and I worked outside for most of the day, finishing up some small projects that needed doing before the snow moves into the area. Got lots done, and now I think we are ready for what ever comes our way. I hope so.
This morning I went out and lit the wood stove in the old woodworking shop, so it will be nice and warm in there once I finish my breakfast that my lovely wife is making for me.
Have a great day.

Good Morning!
Well it is still quite warm out there waking up, with the temperature sitting at 11.5 C | 52.7 F. Enjoy it today as tomorrow we could see an inch or so of snow. It’s amazing how nice it’s been so far, with all the warm temperatures and all. But once the cold gets settled in, it will stay with us. You know, since we moved here over 20 years ago, we have never had a Christmas without snow. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, which will make travelling pretty good.
My wife and I did go to town yesterday to pick up a few things, along with some groceries. It was supposed to be cloudy for the day, but instead the sun came out and stayed with us till we arrived back home. I asked it to be nice before I left, and it did. It’s kind of ironic really, as over the years what ever weather I wanted, or needed to get things done, I got it. My kids used to get so angry, as when we got up it could be raining, and they thought they would get out of doing some work that I had planned. I used to say. “Eat your breakfast, the rain will stop when we are ready to go to work.” And it always did. They say you have to work with the weather, and I suspect that to be true, but in my case the weather worked for me, at least up till now. And I don’t see why it would change.
On another note, we did have a real nice trip yesterday to North Bay and back. We got our groceries and a few other items, dropped off our son some cupcakes my wife made for his birthday, picked up some lunch and ate it in the car; taking in what most of the city slickers were doing. Kind of nice watching people. Speaking of watching people, where ever we went, no one was wearing a mask. I guess nowadays they feel macho or something, thinking they are invincible. I guess that is why the hospitals are full and a lot of people are at home in bed sick. Makes me shake my head knowing, that simply by wearing a mask, most of our colds and flu’s could be avoided. But hey! If they like to be sick, who am I to tell them what they should or should not be doing.
With that, I am off for some Flap-Jacks my lovely wife is making for me, and will then head on out to my woodworking shop to do some work. Work I enjoy, mind ya.

It’s That Time Again. And ……
Good Morning!
It’s a really nice morning here in Port Loring. The sun is shining with the temperature sitting at 13.7 C | 56.66 F. It will warm up even more as the day moves forward. Enjoy it today, as the temperature is going to drop tonight, and we could see a few flakes of the white stuff, waking up tomorrow morning. Highway 522 is bare and dry, which will make travelling good today. There are a few vehicles running up and down the highway this morning. The good news for the hunters is … that the cooler weather, which is going to arrive tomorrow, will get the deer moving around a bit more than they are now.
On another note, I did finish up the Cobblers Bench I have been working on for the last week, and I brought it into our home. Sure looks nice, and later on I will take a couple pictures and share them with you.
With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal that my ‘Lovely Wife is making for me, and will then see what the day has in store other than what I have planned.

Good Morning!
It’s a bit cloudy here in Port Loring this morning. We will however see some sunshine as the day moves forward. The temperature rose a bit through the night, sitting at 1.4 C | 34.52 F. It will warm up a bit more as the day moves forward. Tomorrow we will be back into summer weather, but it will be short-lived. We will have to enjoy it while it lasts. Highway 522 is still quiet, being the first week of Deer Season. For the next two weeks it will remain that way. After that, Port Loring goes into Hibernation. And no outsiders want anything to do with us till spring.
On another note, I did finish the Cobblers Bench yesterday and will bring it into the house a bit later on. I will also take another picture of it, so you can have a look at it.
My wife and I have been busy working on another project, being an old washing machine which dates back into the early 1900s. We rescued it a few years ago, figuring we could do something with it, giving it a new life. I made a nice wooden top for it and once my little woman works her magic, it will make someone a real nice one of a kind coffee table. I will take a picture of it too, when all said and done, and post it here on my Blog.
Today I am going to take it a bit easy. I have some things that need attending here on my computer.
With that, you all have a great day and stay safe. Lots of folks feeling poorly these days with the virus catching up to them. Hard thing to evade with no one taking precautions anymore. Well … a few are.

What’s Happening In & Around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada on Nov 8/2022
So how you all doing this morning? Good I hope. It looks like another nice day is shaping up for us here in Port Loring. The sun is shinning, without a cloud in the sky. It is a touch cool though, with the temperature waking up sitting at -1.7 C | 28.94 F. But it will be short-lived, with it warming up as the day moves forward. Highway 522 is very quiet these days, as most of the men folk along, with some women folk out in the bush seeing if they can bring down a deer for the long winter ahead. Some people rely on it for a source of food. I am not going out this year, but next year I will see what develops. I am thinking about it. I used to do a lot of hunting, but stopped for a few years. But with the cost of meat these days, I am tempted. As I say, we will see what happens.
On another note, I did work in my old woodworking shop for most of the day yesterday, and today will finish up the cobblers bench I have been working on. I stained it at the end of the day yesterday, so it is nice and dry now and ready to put on a few coats of some urethane. Should be nice when all said and done.
I also started my shop stove this morning being a touch cool, So by the time I finish my breakfast that my lovely wife is making for me, it should be nice and toasty in there.
