George’s Daily Post Nov. 22/2015

Good Morning:  Well snow made its appearance yesterday and through the night.   Looks like a winter wonderland out their waking up.  Temperatures were sitting at -3.7 C | 25.34 F.  Will warm up a touch later on.  Today’s forecast is saying it will be a touch unsettled but improving as the day moves forward.  We are having some light flurries as I type.

Body Pain, Flu’s & Colds Related To Weather:  Today the weather will neither help nor hinder any of the above.  Which in some ways is a good thing.

Snow Report:  This morning waking up we have around 6 – 8 inches of the white stuff.  Winter in Port Loring has arrived.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is snow covered for most parts but the snowplough has been through a few times over night.  Travelling will be touch and go today till things get melted off.  If out and about care should be taken.

Hunting Information:  Be it Bow or Camera today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 7:30 AM – 10:30 AM.  Then once again from 3:30 PM  – 7:00 PM.  I give it a 2 Buck Rating our of 5 for seeing a few.   Not the greatest day for hunting.  Good Luck though!

Around Town: Well this morning most folks will be cleaning out their driveways.  I also will have to get to cleaning as we have a bit of travelling to do.  So had better get moving.  Have a great day and stay safe.  Make it a great day.   Only you can do that.

George’s Daily Post Nov. 21/2015

Good Morning: Cloudy morning here in Port Loring.  Got a storm front moving into our area this afternoon, 5 cm are expected by early evening with another 10 to 15 cm tonight. The snow will taper off on Sunday.  I hope so.  I like snow but I don’t like a whole mess of it. But we do live in the snow belt.  If anyone gets it we do.  Also could see some high winds associated with the storm.

Pain, Colds & Flu’s Related To Weather:   Today the weather will protect us from colds and flu’s.  For aches and pains it will do nothing, neither hinder nor help.  Kind of just going to sit there and let things happen.

Highway Report: As of 9:30 AM, Highway 522 is bare and dry.  That will change as the day moves forward.  Travelling will be good this morning deteriorating this afternoon.  So care should be taken if out and about.  Tomorrow will be a better day, I hope.

Snow Report:  Nothing to speak of at the moment.

Hunting Information;  For those that want to do some scouting with a camera or a Bow the best times to be out there will be from 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM.  A fair day for hunting.  I give it a 3 out of 5 Buck Rating for seeing a few.  Good Luck!

Around Town: Not too much happening in and around our small community.  We did head on into North Bay yesterday and most stores were doing a brisk business.  Good to see.  Our son Karl took us for supper at the Montana’s 1899 Algonquin Ave, North Bay, ON P1B 4Y8
Phone:(705) 840-2087.  New place that opened up in the Bay and I have to say it was excellent.  We all ordered something different and all was really tasty.  Prices weren’t all that bad either.  I don’t mind paying a bit more if things are good.  Also the waitress’s were kind and helpful.  So on a score of 1 to 10 I would give it a 8 as of now.  Why only a 8.  Simple, nothing is perfect in life and they still have to do some fixing up on the inside here and their.  All and all no complaints.  With that heading off for my morning tea.  Dandelion this morning.  Good for all kinds of things.  Enjoy your day an stay safe.

George’s Daily Post For Nov. 20/2015

Good Morning:  Cloudy morning waking up here in Port Loring Ontario.  Also got a few flurries taking place.  Still a bit to warm for it to stay, but it is a sign of what’s to come.  Temperatures were sitting at 1.3 C | 34.34 F.  Won’t warm up much more than that.  Could see a bit of sunshine off and on.  Tomorrow though we could see some accumulation of snow for the first time, as there is a system going through our area that has some white stuff tied to it.

Pain, Colds & Flu Related To Weather:  Today the weather won’t help or will it hinder.  It’s just going to set there and let things look after their-selves.   Kind of different in some respects.

Road Report:  Highway 522 is wet with a bit of ice forming in certain areas.  Travelling will still be good but care should be taken.

Hunting Information:  Today isn’t the greatest day for hunting. Be it camera or Bow.  I give it a 2 Buck rating out of 5 for seeing a few.  Good Luck and stay safe.  Especially if out there alone.

Snow Report; We are having some flurries as I stated above.  They will become more pronounced as the temperatures drop through the night and into tomorrow.   Colder weather is moving into our area.

Around Town:  Not to much to report here on this fine Friday morning.  Most folks are looking forward to the weekend which is the way folks has been programmed over the years by our Powers To Be.   Amazing how some believe everything that these so called Powers say is correct.  I myself listen but go my own way.  I know about their deviousness and won’t be subjected to what they are trying to say or do.  Something to think about my friends.  With that tea time here Chaga mixed with a touch of Dandelion is on the menu this morning.  Great drink to increase appetite and strength, physically and mentally.  Enjoy your day!

George’s Daily Post For Nov. 19

Good Morning:  Other than a few clouds and some high winds, it is not so bad of a day here in Port Loring Ontario.  Temperatures were quite warm waking up sitting at 12.9 C | 55.22 F.  Today we will see more rain.  Temperatures will fall this evening and some snow is in the forecast for the next couple days.  Looks like winter is edging closer.

Pain, Flu’s & Colds Related To Weather:  Today the weather will once again play havoc with those suffering with body aches and pains.  (rheumatism) But it will be of help in preventing colds and the flu.  So not so bad a day.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and wet throughout.  Travelling will be good for the day but a change is about to take place.   Also there have been a few sightings of deer and moose making their away across the highway. So care should be taken.

Snow Report:  Nothings as of this morning.

Hunting Information:  This morning the old weather stick along with gathered data taken directly from our very own weather station located here in Port Loring is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM.  Then once again a bit later on from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM.  Good luck!

Around Town:  My very good friend Danny Brooks is holding an event in Sudbury ,Wednesday November 25th at the Sudbury Public Library.  He says…We are presenting one of the most powerful workshops we have ever created called
“Unravelling You Inner Workings”.

The workshop is to help people understand WHY what they are currently living isn’t matching up with what they are feeling inside.  We start at 6:30pm at the main library 74 McKenzie Street.
It is going to be a wonderful journey! Should be a great event and you won’t find anyone more knowing than Danny.  Nice fellow.    With that I am heading off for my morning tea.  Chaga is on the menu for this morning. One of Danny’s most favourite drinks.  Good for what ails you along with protecting you from all kinds of not so good things.  Builds ones immunities and the mind.

Good Morning: Cloudy day here in Port Loring Ontario. Waking up temperatures were sitting at 8.9 C | 48.02 F.  Forecast for today is saying it will be stormy, much rain. Great day to get some inside work done up.  Myself I kind of enjoy these days.

Pain, Colds & Flu’s Related To Weather:  Today the weather will be a concern to those suffering with body aches and pains (rheumatism)  On the flip side the weather will keep most colds and flu’s at bay today.  Still no excuse not wash your hands if out visiting, shopping or ?.  If folks did just that after going somewhere, colds and flu’s would be cut in half.  Also over the years I have kept most colds and flu’s at bay by simply not touching my face with my hands.  Good practice to get into.  Also one last thing. If your sick stay at home!!!

Hunting Times:  Today won’t be the greatest for those wanting to do some hunting.  I give it a 2 Buck Rating out of 5 for seeing a few.   Times to be out there will be from 8:00 AM – 10:00 AM.  Then a bit later on from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM.  Good Luck!

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare but a bit wet and slick in certain areas throughout.  Occasional deer or moose are also making their way across.  Travelling will be good today for most parts.

Around Town:  Things are quiet.  Hardly a car moving up or down the highway this morning.  Thinking I will get into writing up a few stories on this fine Wednesday morning.  Seems the urge hits and has to be done.  With that will head off for my morning tea. Red Rose this morning for a change.  Change is good.  Enjoy your day and stay safe.

George’s Daily Post Nov. 17

Good Morning:  We woke up to some nice sunny weather here in Port Loring Ontario.  Sun was a shinning down upon us which seems to draw a person out from under the sheets.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at 1.3 C | 34.34 F.  Not too cold for this time of year.  Today the sunshine will remain upon us with temperatures remaining quite warm.  Great day to get outside.

Pain,  Flu’s & Colds Related To Weather:  Today the weather will be of assistance.  Will help ward off those viruses and make one feel like doing things with ease.  Good day no matter which way you look at it.   Make the best of it.

Hunting Information:  Today the old weather stick along with gathered data is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 9:00 AM – 10:30 AM.  Then again a bit later on from  4:30 PM – 7:30 PM.   Should be a fair day for hunting.  I give it a 3 Buck Rating out of 5 for seeing a few.  Good Luck!

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and dry throughout these days.  Travelling today will be good.  No reason to sit around the house.

Snow Report:  Nothing to speak of this morning.  The ground though did have a crust of ice on it though.  Won’t be long before we are covered with the white stuff.

Around Town:  Things are quiet.  In other places they are quite busy with stores being packed with buyers of all kinds.  I have found that folks are spending more these days, buying items that normally wouldn’t be bought.  Good sign of how our economy is really doing.  Buying and not owing is a good thing.  Charging and owning isn’t.  Especially with what they charge on them credit cards these days.  I also see a lot of these money stores popping up here and there.  My advice is to stay away from them.  Not a good practice to get into.  I have found over the years that if I don’t have the money to buy things outright, I just don’t buy it.  Simple as that.  My opinion only of course.  With that enjoy your day, make it a good day.  Only you can do that.

One More Story (Alarm Clock)

Alarm Clock

Now I know most folks today have some kind of fancy alarm clock. Probably digital or maybe even one that wakes you by playing music. With them in mind I got to thinking of my younger days on the farm.

There was no such thing as an alarm clock, or at least one by today’s standards. On the dairy farm I was in bed at around 7:00 PM and looked forward to it. After a hard day out in the fields and looking after the critters, sleep didn’t take long in coming. I was usually up in the morning around 4:15 AM and my first chore of the day was bringing in firewood for the cook stove, along with splitting a bit of kindling. From there, it was off to the barn to help with the milking.

My alarm clock was a bit different from most folks had, mine was an old Red Rooster. I got to tell you, this rooster had a set of lungs on him that could have woken up a whole town, if there had been one close by. Most roosters only crow when the sun comes up, but for some reason this crazy old thing we had, was up and out on the fence at 4:15 every morning. The worst part was, that the spot he picked was right below my window. He saw a few of my shoes come flying out of the window at him, in my stay on the farm.

For years I tried to get Laura to make a rooster pot pie but she wouldn’t hear of it. I think the only reason they kept him around was just to bug me. I also figured that the darn thing just wanted a good laugh every morning.

I remember one morning, I was laying awake there in bed waiting for him to start his crowing but for some reason on this morning he didn’t. Kind of thought it was strange, as he’s never missed a morning since I moved there. Well, I got up and headed on over to the barn to have a look around but he was nowhere to be found. I then headed on out to the fence which he usually stood on and there he was laying on the ground, with blood all over the place. By looking at the tracks I soon seen that a fox had gotten to him. I thought he was a goner but after a bit more looking, I found he was still alive. He was messed up quite a bit and you could tell he must have put up quite a fight as there was feathers everywhere. I figured he gave that old fox a run for his money.

Well I picked him up and carried him back to the barn. He had one broken wing and a few cuts. Laura helped me fix him up and for the next few weeks I kept his wounds clean and fed him. He wouldn’t eat for a few days but he slowly came around. A couple weeks later he was his old self and I figured he would soon be back out on the fence in the mornings, waking me up. I have to say, I really missed his greetings, not that I would admit it to anyone.

A few more days went by and then one morning I was awoken by a familiar sound. I laid there awake and smiled, I was happy he was back to his old self. I went down stairs and to my surprise I found it was 4:30 AM. That old rooster got slipped up on his time, I thought. The next morning I waited for his call and darned if it wasn’t right on 4:30 AM again.

I got to talking to Reg about it and he said, “Well, I guess he figured since you mended and cared for him, he would let you sleep in an extra fifteen minutes in the mornings.”

“Maybe so,’ I said, “we will see what he does in the coming days.”

Time went by and every morning after that the old rooster never crowed till 4:30 AM, which was okay by me, as it saved me walking outside in my bare feet to get my shoes.

So there you have it, not your average alarm clock but very effective.

In Closing, I would Like To Wish You Well

Of course their coffee is great too.  So with that heading off for my morning tea and will see what the day brings my way.  Great to be able to sit back and do what ever one wants.  Enjoy your day and stay safe if out roaming around in the bush.  Lots of hunters out there, with guns.  That should tell you something.

Hunting Information:  Not the greatest day for hunting.  Can’t really see anyone would want to be out there today.  Miserable day for hunting but a great day for playing cards and enjoying nature from the inside looking out.    I hunted four days with the Booth family and had no luck.  But still have another week so one just never knows.  I did see a moose yesterday, had my adrenalin moving a bit till it came into full view.  Amazing how quietly they can move through the bush.  Also Cadger one of the group did get a shot off at one buck but wasn’t to be.  Few stories went around the camp later on about that incident.   Also my thanks goes out to Kerry, Randy, Cathy and Jack and of course Cadger, Nick and the rest of the group for an enjoyable few days.  Lots of laughs and some good memories were made.  Also a special thanks to Kerry for his use of his ATV along with keeping me safe.  Fantastic machine, went places I didn’t think was possible.  A few that I still don’t think is possible.  I had a great time.
