Happenings In & Around Port Loring Ontario

Good Morning:  Well cool morning here in Port Loring.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at -2.6 C | 27.32 F.

Forecast For Today:  Unsettled, probably improving.  Things will start to clear up after today.  Should even see some sunshine tomorrow with temperatures warming up some.

Snow Report:  Over night we had around 1-2 inches of snow.  Kind of a winter wonderland out there waking up.  Will be short lived though.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and wet throughout.  Care should be taken though this morning.

Around Town:  Well with these cold temperatures this morning the wood furnace is feeling good.  Other than that not to much happening around town.  Going to have my cup of tea, Orange Pekoe this morning with a piece of fresh dandelion.  That is if I can find one.  Great way to start the day, along with the dandelions potential of increasing ones appetite.  This is good, just one has to learn not to eat all the wrong things.  I like salads the fresher the better.   If you are going to be travelling this weekend take care, as you can be a great driver but it seems there is always a few that isn’t.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]

Good Morning:  Cool wet morning here in Port Loring.  Temperatures were sitting at       1.6 C | 34.88 F.

Forecast For Today:  Stormy, much rain.  Things will get even cooler for the next couple days then the sun should be upon us once again.

Snow Report:  No snow overnight.  We did have 10 more mm of rain through the night.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and wet throughout. Travelling should be okay today.

Around Town:  Still quiet business wise.  Weather doesn’t help to much being as it is.  Still have the wood furnace burning away.  Nice thing is that wood heat takes the dampness away mighty quick.  Feels good to.  This new wood furnace we installed last fall was worth every penny we put into it.  Also we found it cut down our wood burning to about half compared to our old wood furnace.  On another note I noticed the buds are starting to show themselves on some of the trees and shrubs.  Sign of what is to come.  Soon we will see a mass of green along the horizon.  Looking forward to it too.  So you all have a great day.  Stay warm don’t need anyone getting sick.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and wet throughout.  Travelling will be good for most of the day.

Around Town:  Not to much to report here this morning.  No news coming in on my end of things.  Stores are picking up some business wise.  We have had a few folks drop by saying hello.  So the trend towards summer is slowly edging in on us.  Also a lot of my friends are back from the sunny south and already dreaming of next year.  Can’t say I blame them neither.  Nothing is more healthy than to be where the sun is most abundant.  Tea time here,  Violet Leaf tea this morning with a leaf or two of dandelion.  Enjoy your day. Stay safe and warm, and don’t over do it.  Seems each spring folks push their body into things that it isn’t used to after its long rest through winter.  Ease into things and let your body tell you what it can and cannot do.  Saves a lot of grief and we all do want a fun summer right?  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]

Around Town:  I am happy that I got a lot of my outside work done up yesterday as today isn’t an outside day to say the least. But that is okay as I have lots to do inside where it is warm and dry.  While out with Nature yesterday I noticed all kinds of plants and things showing themselves for the first time this year.  Great to see and even nicer to watch as they develop.  We got one tulip plant that has come up now in the same location right where we can view it while we eat breakfast each morning.  It has been coming up now for over ten years.  Just one all by itself.  I think it is our yearly guide to what is going to take place for the year.  We are given this gift I believe to see into the future, just most choose not to use it.  At any rate it is sure nice to watch, take in and enjoy.  So tea time here.  Chaga is on the menu for today, I am in need of some extra strength moving around them drywall sheets that my wife and I will be working with.  Enjoy your day, stay safe and dry.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]

Around Town:  Things are picking up some.  Few cottagers are back, had a few drop by yesterday saying hello.  Great to see them. On another note thought I would throw this out there.  My wife and I are looking for a place to rent for a couple months of the year every winter in the southern part of Florida.  Below Tampa is preferable.  If you hear of any one or any place I would appreciate you letting us know.  We did have a cottage in Sarasota for many years and sold it a few years ago.  Hind sight I wouldn’t do it again.  But one can’t dwell on the past to much.   Had a friend Email me asking about the ice on the lakes and he said he was going to have an Orange Pekoe tea this morning.  Sounds good to me too. So on with my day as you will yours. Enjoy your day.  You can reach me George Walters if you so wish at [email protected]

Around Town:  See the seagulls are back for the year, they visited us yesterday along with the robins and red wing black birds.  Great to see them after such a cold snowy winter.  Our snow drops are up in full force showing off, nice to see them too.  Other flowers are starting to push up through the hard ground and I am sure they will be looking nice in a few days.  I am especially happy the air is getting warmer along with the sunshine.  It is what is needed for us to stay healthy and bring things back to a normal state. Spring is a time of rebirth, most is new starting out, learning and wanting to do new things.  We could learn a lot by just watching.   Been watching the Masters Golf for the past three days.  It comes to a close after today. It is live on Global TV for those that are interested starting at around 2:00 PM this afternoon.  Great event this year and I would have to say one of the best.  So many players using their skills to their utmost…to win.  Tea time here and then will see what the day has in store, exciting really. Enjoy your day.  You can reach me George Walters at [email protected]

Happenings In And Around Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good Morning: Cloudy morning here in Port Loring.  Temperatures were sitting at 0.4 C | 32.72 F.

Forecast For Today: Cloudy with rain off and on throughout the day.

Snow Report: No Snow overnight.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and dry.  Should be no problem for those that want to travel.

Around Town:  Things are quiet these days.  When the sun is upon us folks are out and about though. Which is a good thing.  Our bird feeder is being visited by all different kinds these days, with their migration north in full swing.  Great so see, and they are so entertaining to watch.  The grass is slowly being uncovered from its winters rest and in some places even turning green in colour.  Some spring flowers are starting to push through the hard soil where the sun meets up with them, giving what is needed for growth in the coming days.  Nature is something to watch and take in, even in its smallest occurrences.  Most pass it by, which is a shame.  I am off for a cup of tea and then will see what the day has planned for me. Watching the Masters Golf will be my priority for the next four days starting this afternoon.  The beauty that course holds is something in itself. If you get a chance and are able to get it on your TV take a look.  Enjoy your day and stay safe.  You can reach me if you so wish at [email protected]

New Natural Health Book Finished

Yesterday marked the day of our Natural Health book being finished.  Six years in the making.  It is off to the printers now for a draft copy, then after that we will order what is needed.  When they are available for you to purchase I will let you know. For this I am happy, as now I can get away from this computer.  Sitting inside day after day isn’t the best thing a person can do.  But it needed doing.  Today I will rest up a touch, get my mind focusing back on what is important to me and getting outside more.  Enjoy your day.  You can reach me George Walters at [email protected]

Good Morning: Touch cool this morning but things will warm up.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at -7.3 C | 18.86 F.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare an dry throughout.  Travelling will be good.

Snow Report:  No snow accumulations over night.

Around Town.  Took a drive to North Bay yesterday.  Just because I can.  Had a great day.  Went out to lunch with my son Karl.  Had a great time.  Stores were packed all over town.  Line ups at checkouts were amazing.  So many folks out and about shopping, happy and you could say, enjoying life.  Much needed in such a fast pace world we live in today.  I was also amazed to see so many deer on the way home.  My wife counted 48 deer along side Highway 522 coming in from Highway 11.  Some folks say they were killed over winter some say wolves.  I will say this.  Nature has her way of fixing things.  There has been literately hundreds  if not thousands born over winter.  They are every where.  Nature always amazes me.  The thing that is needed is for us humans to take notice.  Enjoy your day and stay safe.  You can reach me George Walters at [email protected]

Which is needed.  Brings families just that much closer together.  For those without children look out upon Nature, her treasures are there for all to enjoy asking nothing in return.   In saying that I am in hopes that you all have a great weekend.  You can reach me at [email protected]

Good Morning:  Well find looking day starting off April.  Temperatures were a touch cool sitting at -8.4 C | 16.88 F.  It will warm up as the day moves forward.  Spring is here.

Forecast For Today: Rather unsettled clearing later with some sunshine.  Tonight we will get some freezing rain.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare and dry.  Travelling will be good through most of the day.  Tonight could become quite bad with the freezing rain that is heading our way.

Snow Report:  No snow accumulations overnight.

Around Town:  Still quiet around town.  Not many cars or trucks moving up and down the highway.  But that will change in the coming days.  Once the snow has left a whole new agenda starts to take place.   Yards being cleaned up.   Plans for the coming season business wise. Trips to far off places,  Firewood for next year being piled where it is dry.  Gardens being looked at and planned out, and my most favourite, bringing out the old rocking chairs for some front porch sittin’.  I look forward to enjoying a tea chatting to my lovely wife soaking up some morning sunshine.  Tea tor today is from the petals of the Calendula flower.  Great tasting tea for all kinds of ailments, or just to fortify the body for the coming day.  Try it sometime, or better yet grow some this year yourself. In doing so you will have the best of the best tea available to you all year round for free.

Happenings Around Port Loring Ontario

Good Morning:  Not to bad temperature wise this morning.  Waking up it was sitting at   0.1 C | 32.18 F.

Forecast For Today:  Stormy, may improve as the day moves forward.

Snow Report:  We had around 2 inches of snow over night.  With temperatures being where they are at I suspect it will be short lived.

Highway Report. Highway 522 is pretty well bare but it does have some slushy sections throughout.  Travelling should be okay.

Around Town:  Not much to report here for a Monday morning.  Folks are back to work and those that are retired are taking the days as they come.  I have to say I enjoy starting a new day, as all is up for grabs, so to speak.  What ever I choose to do is there for the taking.  The trick to making it a good day is knowing the right road to take.  Some choose trouble some choose contentment.  Free will they call it.  I call it common sense.  Tea time here.  English breakfast with a touch of corn silk.  You can reach George Walters at [email protected]

Good Morning.  Cloudy morning waking up.  Temperatures though have remained above freezing throughout the night.  Lot of melting taking place at this time.  Temperatures were sitting at; 1.2 C | 34.16 F.

Forecast For Today:  Cloudy, with a possible flurry or rain off and on through the day.  Melting will continue.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is bare but wet throughout.   Travelling should be okay for most of the day.

Snow Report:  Well over half our snow is gone.  No snow accumulations over night.

Around Town:  Just about time to start thinking on starting some of them seeds from last year.  I like to get mine up a ways which takes time.  Nothing gives me more pleasure than to see them sprouting up out of the soil.  Once it warms up they will be ready to plant in the garden.  Myself I start mine in egg cartons.  I found that the carton itself holds the moisture in the right amounts to sustain the seeds for a good length of time.  Also keeps them separated nicely. Nothing more satisfying than growing your own, especially from seeds.  Enjoy your day and say safe.  You can reach me at                        [email protected]

Happenings In And Around Port Loring Ontario

Good Morning: Well waking up this morning temperatures were sitting at 0.1 C | 32.18 F.

Forecast For Today:  Stormy with snow off and on most of the day turning colder.  Will be quite cold tonight and through tomorrow as well.  The winds are coming in from the North North West.

Highway Report:  Highway 522 is snow covered with some icy sections throughout.  Not a good day for travelling.  I would recommend staying home if possible.

Snow Report:  No snow accumulations over night.  It is coming down quite rapidly though this morning.  Blowing snow makes things worse which it is doing at this time.  Winter wonderland out there today.

Ice Fishing Times:  I hear the ice huts are being taken off the lakes in Nippising as the ice is melting quite rapidly these days.  I would think we should follow their example.  Its not worth some one getting hurt for the sake of a few fish.  There will be plenty of time for fishing sitting in a boat.in the near future.  Tomorrow will be the last day for the Ice Fishing Times for this season.  Today though the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then again from 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM. I give it a 5 fish rating out of 5 for catching a few.  If unsure of the ice thickness stay off it.  Good luck and stay safe.

Around Town: There is a Community Paramedical Program in Effect for our area. For all the information click flyer below.  Enjoy your day and with this blowing snow be careful out there.  Good thing is it won’t last for long, seems to be the trend for our area year after year.
