What’s Happening On March 13/20223

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy morning here in Ontario, Canada. We did have some more snow through the night. I would say around 2 inches. Highway 522 is partially snow covered, which will make travelling not so good. But it should melt off as the day moves forward. The temperature waking up was sitting at -8.5 C | 16.7 F. It will warm up a bit later on.

On another not, other than working away here on my new mystery novel, I haven’t done all that much. Felt kind of under the weather again yesterday, not sure what that is about. So will be taking it easy once again today.
Other than that, not much else going on in and around our small town.

Stay safe. GW

Florida Grapefruit are the Best! Forget the rest.

Good Morning!

Starting things off, it is another cold morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. The temperature waking up was sitting at-13.7 C | 7.34 F. It will warm up a bit as the day moves forward, and we could see a few flakes of snow later on this afternoon. Being the nights have been so cold, the snow we do have hasn’t melted all that much through the day. In saying that, the warmer temperatures are lurking in the wing so speak, and it won’t be long before they make their grand entrance. It’s the way Nature teaches us humans patience. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, which once again will make travelling good for those wanting to head on off the big cities or???

On another note, yesterday I worked away here on my new mystery novel I am putting together, and today will do the same. Things are rolling along in that department.

With that, I am off a Pumpernickel Bagel this morning with some good old peanut butter that my lovely wife is preparing for me. It’s good to have an assortment of different foods to eat.

First, though, we’ll have a Florida Grapefruit, which is in season right now.
But, they are becoming increasingly difficult to buy in supermarkets, since grocery companies are now purchasing them from Israel and places other than Florida.
It all comes down to money; they buy it cheap and feel they can earn more money.
To be honest, they lose money since the ones that aren’t from Florida are worthless with no flavour or juice at all.

It’s a pity what some of our businesses are doing these days.
Gouging the working man to death.
Yet, given enough rope, they will eventually hang themselves.
I should say, some will, others will cry the blues to our Powers That Be, asking for freebies, and regrettably, most will get it, since these so-called Powers That Be don’t want to rock the boat and lose some votes in the next election. Sign of the times. My Opinion Only, of Course.

Have a great day and stay safe. It pays to take extra precautions when out and about these days, as there is still a lot of sickness around.

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy, cool morning, waking up here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The temperature was sitting at -10.1 C | 13.82 F. It will warm up a touch as the day moves forward. And we should see a wee bit of sunshine as the day progresses, which would be nice. Highway 522 is bare this morning, which will make travelling pretty good.

Nonetheless, one should use caution since there are quite a few deer in the area.
We were driving to town yesterday, when a couple ran across the road in front of us.
If you see one, chances are there is more behind it. We are also having a few light flurries this morning, but it won’t amount to much.

Other than that, not much going on in and around our small town.

Breakfast, that my lovely wife is preparing for me, consists of; Pancakes with Maple Syrup with an Egg on top. Just because we can. Stay safe. GW

Good Morning!

So how you all doing this morning? I hope you all woke up with a mind that wants to move forward? Life is a journey with a lot of uncertainties. Having said that, these uncertainties are what we’re meant to be using, in order to see this journey for what it is.

That’s all I have to offer regarding life in general this morning. Ha ha.

On another note, it is a cool morning here in Port Loring, but it will warm up as the day moves forward. Highway 522 is bare and dry, which will once again make travelling good. On the subject of travelling, my lovely wife and I did make a trip to North Bay yesterday to pick up some groceries and things. The main reason I decided to go was because we were out of cheese. Ya, I know, what has cheese got to do with it. Well … when we run out of cheese, we’re out of groceries. Ha ha. If there is one thing on this earth that I can’t do without … it’s cheese. It might cost me $15.00 for a block of good aged cheese, but in my mind it’s worth the $35.00 worth of gas to get go and get it. Strange, huh? I agree! But I am what I am.

While in town, we picked up what we needed, filled our car with gas, that was the price of gold; had lunch in our car while people watching chatting to each other, and then headed on home. It was a great day, other than what it cost us to get this all done. On the way home the sun came out which gave us the insight that our endeavours for the day had purpose.

Today I will once again work away here on a few things I have on the go. It’s nice to be able to do the simplest of things. Like, putting your pants on in the morning without asking permission from anyone.

Stay safe. GW

I told you yesterday we’d seen some wild turkeys walking up our highway heading west… well, here’s a photo to prove it. There is three more ahead of them.

Good Morning!

It’s a bit cloudy this morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. In saying that, we will have some sunshine on and off all day long. The temperature has still been a touch cool through the evening hours, but the daytime temperatures are warming up. Which is good news for the Maple Syrup folks. Getting out of bed it was sitting at -6.6 C | 20.12 F. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning which will make travelling good once again.

Other than that, not much else happening in and around our small northern town. Knowing that, I am off for a piece of toast that my wife is making for me out of our homemade bread, and after that I will work on my novel that I am writing. It keeps my mind busy.
Many forget that the mind need just as much exercise as the body, if not more.
A healthy body comes from an active brain.

Good Morning!

Starting things off, it is another sunny morning here in Port Loring. The temperature is still a touch cool, sitting at -6.1 C | 21.02 F. But it is two degrees higher than yesterday morning. The sunshine will remain with us all day. And it will warm up more as the day moves forward, which will get rid of some more snow. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, and other than 5 Wild Turkeys walking up the highway heading west, there isn’t that much traffic. Usually they drop by our bird feeder, but with all the snow I guess the decided to take an alternate route. Can’t say I blame them.

On another note, yesterday I worked away once again on my new novel I am writing, and will do the same today. It’s really coming along now.

Other than that, not much else happening in and around our small town. For those wanting to know how much snow we have left on the ground, I would say around a foot or so. More in drifts. The ice on the lakes hasn’t gotten yet to where the snowmobiles can’t run, but it won’t be long.

With that, I am off for a bite to eat and will then see what the day has in store, other than what I have planned. Life is like a mystery novel, actually. You never know what the next page might bring. Stay safe, there is still a lot of sickness out here. My wife and I have been feeling a lot better since we have been able to set outside in the sunshine. It’s amazing how much we humans need it. GW

Good Morning!

It’s a bit foggy here this morning in Port Loring. Reason being the warmer temperatures are rolling in and mixing with all the snow we have on the ground. It will warm up well above the freezing mark today, which will get rid of a lot more snow. We can even see a bit of gravel on our driveway instead of snow and ice. And our septic is working great too as the top of it is melting fast. When you see the snow melting around your septic tank, you know it is working as it should be. Highway 522 is bare this morning, which will make travelling good.

On another note, the snowmobile-rs are out in full force these days. Hundreds of them crossing Wauquimakog Lake, which is nice to see.

My wife and I sat outside yesterday, soaking up some sunshine, which, for those who don’t know, converts cholesterol into vitamin D, which your body desperately needs this time of year.
People with high cholesterol would benefit from sitting in the sun for at least 30 minutes every day.
Most high cholesterol problems are caused by a lack of sunlight, as well as eating the wrong meals and not getting enough exercise.

Tip for the day.

With that I am off for a bite to eat that my lovely wife is preparing for me and will then get back to working on my new Mystery Novel. Once I have it wrapped up, I will get back to doing some woodworking projects I have in mind. Stay safe. GW

Breakfast!

Good Morning!

It’s a gloomy morning in Port Loring.
The temperature is -4.2 C | 24.44 F, which isn’t too bad.
As the day progresses, it will become much warmer.
We’re also getting some light snow, and I’m guessing we’ll get about an inch before it stops.
The good news is that we’ve experienced a lot of melting over the last two weeks, which is gradually removing a lot of our snow.

Having said that, we still have a little more than a foot on the ground.

Highway 522 is partially snow covered this morning, but it will gradually clear as the temperature rises, which will make travelling pretty good for those having to go somewhere. For my wife and I we have all we need and will be staying put.

With that, I’m off to have some breakfast that my lovely wife is preparing for me, and then I’ll see what the rest of the day has in store. Apart from what I have planned.
Life, without a doubt, is full of uncertainties.
Stay safe.

Good Morning!

Being that I wasn’t feeling well, I missed a few days of writing on my blog.
It seems like today is better.
Health-wise, this winter has been pretty crazy.
Yet, despite my age, I am still on the move, so I guess that counts for something.

Looking outside, we are having some sunshine this morning, which is sure nice to see. However, it is still quite cool with the temperature getting out of bed sitting at -18.4 C | -1.12 F. But being as cold as it is, it will warm up well above the freezing mark as the day moves forward.

Highway 522 is clear of snow and dry this morning, which will make travelling good for those wanting to go anywhere.

On another note, I didn’t do much for the past couple days other than clean out our driveway. I also managed to wash our car, as it was a heck of a mess caused by all the chemicals they are putting down on the highways these days. Not much we can do about that, being that we humans like to move around a lot.

Depending on how I feel today, I may resume writing a new novel that I have in the works.
It’s progressing well.
It’s quite different from the writing I’m accustomed to, but it’s been enjoyable.
With that, stay safe. GW

Good Morning!

Well. Here it is the last day of February. Time sure flies by. The temperature waking up was sitting at -6.6 C | 20.12 F. It will warm up to a touch above the freezing mark a bit later on in the day. And we could see another few inches of snow. Tomorrow it will warm up even more with lots of melting. Maybe the 3 inches we had yesterday and through the night, and what we are going to get today will melt, and I won’t have to wake up my old snowblower. That would be nice. Highway 522 is snow covered this morning and with some new snow moving into our area I would think it would be a good day to stay at home. That is, if you can.

On another note, yesterday I worked away here in the house and with the weather being as it is I will be doing the same today. Kind of nice to be able to do what you want in life.

In any case.
Having to work nonstop for more than 60 years, my wife and I earned it.
Not like some of the individuals who constantly siphon off resources from the system. Such is life. As the old saying goes, it takes all kinds to make up a world such as ours. Be it right or wrong.

I sometimes look back at the things my wife and I have done, and I shake my head in disbelief. I have to say, though, we sure had an interesting life, even if it was a life with a lot of bumps in the road.

With that I am off for my breakfast that my lovely wife is preparing for me and will then see what the day has to offer other than what we have planned. I think we are going to be needing some more homemade bread, so I will help out with that. I’m the kneader. Ha ha. You do get your exercise doing that. Have a great day and stay safe. GW

I’ve determined what I’m going to have for breakfast.
Port Loring toast with a drizzle of maple syrup.
Prepared with my lovely wife’s baked bread from yesterday.
It looks good, and it is, or was, delicious.

Good Morning!

Starting things off, it is a cool morning here waking up. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at -18.1 C | -0.58 F. However, it will warm up as the day moves forward, which is fine with me. Truth be told, I am ready for spring. And it isn’t that far off, as we only have one more day, before we head on off, into March. If I was back on our farm in the Niagara Region, it wouldn’t be long before I would be working in the fields. I sure miss them days, not that it isn’t nice here where we live now. I guess, as the old saying goes, once you have dirt in your shoes, it stays there. At least till you dump it out. And for me, well … I kind of like it being there. Ha ha.

On another note, Highway 522 is pretty well clear this morning, which will make travelling pretty good for those wanting to head on off to the big cities to do some shopping or???

We didn’t receive any additional snow overnight. But I believe we will get another six inches or so starting later today and continuing into tomorrow.
At least, that’s what my body is currently saying to me.
Maybe it’s not completely my body; it almost seems to be a passing thought.
Strange in some aspects, but whatever it is, it has certainly been helpful for the most of my life.
I suppose that sometimes it’s best to just accept things and keep an open mind as to what is going on around you.

Moving on, I spent the most of yesterday working on the new novel I’m currently writing.
I must say, I’m having fun with it.
And now that I know what has to be written, I’ll even appreciate it more.
Came to me in the dead of night.
The only drawback is that I now need to revise a lot of what I previously wrote.
But, it is what it is.

With that, I am off for a bite to eat, maybe some pancakes or Port Loring Toast. I will see what my lovely wife has to say about that. Stay safe, still a lot of sickness out there these days. GW

What’s Happening In & Around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada on Feb 26/2023

Good Morning!

It’s a beautiful morning here in Port Loring, and it’s good to see the sun.
It seems that no matter what the day brings, the sun makes it a lot better. We didn’t have any more snow overnight, but we did have around 2 inches throughout the day yesterday. All in all, there is still lots of snow on the ground. I would say a good foot. More so in drifts. Highway 522 is partially snow and ice covered this morning, but the sander has made its rounds. Which will melt things and make travelling pretty good a bit later on in the day.

Apart from that, I am happy that I was able to clean up our driveway yesterday. I like to keep the snow cleaned up as if you don’t them tire tracks make it quite difficult to remove the next snow fall. Also, it makes it look like someone lives here. Following that, I helped my lovely wife in making a loaf of bread that we will sample shortly, as well as some cinnamon buns. Can’t wait!

With that, I am off to put some more wood in our furnace, and then I think I will get back to working on my new Mystery Novel. I will see how that is going. My characters in the book seem to be calling me. Haha. Stay safe. GW

I have to admit, there is a lot of it being sold these days in the big cities. But I also don’t suspect it is all that bad for you if you use it in moderation. Not that I use it internally, mind ya. I’m just saying….

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy morning here, waking up. It is also a touch cool, with the temperature sitting at -17.3 C | 0.86 F. It will warm up a bit as the day moves forward, but not much, Yesterday was sure cold and stayed cold all day. We didn’t have any more snow overnight, but we are having a bit now, and we could see another 2 or 3 inches throughout the day. So I am thinking I will wait for a bit before cleaning out my driveway. I still haven’t cleaned it from the last bit we had, which was the day before yesterday, which was another 3 inches. Highway 522 is snow covered with a lot of icy sections throughout.

On another note, my lovely wife and I decided to take a trip to town, North Bay, yesterday. Since it was sunny. The trip there and back was good weather and road wise. There was a bit of snow on the roads on the way in, but on the way home they were all clear. However, our poor car looked white when we returned home, covered with salt and slush. So I will see about washing it as soon as it warms up a bit. Too cold out there to do that at the moment. I feel bad for it sitting out there looking a mess.

In town, we got our groceries at Metro, had our lunch in our car while people watching and then drove home chatting to each other. Great day all in all, and sure felt good to get out of the house for a few hours. Gas prices are still up there, sitting at $1.51 a Litre. And food, well let’s say … it makes a feller cringe at the cash register. The thing is, the grocery stores are charging us outrageous prices and their profits have never been so high. I don’t know about you, but that sure raises my eyebrows a bit.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal and will then see what the day has in store. You never know, these days. Stay safe, still a lot of sickness around town and in the big cities.

But before I go, while we’re on the subject of illness.
Cancer is affecting an increasing number of people in Port Loring these days.
I’m not sure what’s going on.
I’m not sure if it’s the mines farther north, the water, what we eat, or our air.
But one thing is certain: things aren’t looking good in that department.

Good Morning!

It’s a very cold morning here in Port Loring. The temperature waking up was sitting at -23.4 C | -9.52 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward, a wee bit. The good news is it is sunny, which at least makes it look nice. Highway 522 is snow covered this morning, but the sander has been through, which will make travelling slow but not so bad if care is taken. Warmer weather though isn’t that far off as we are nearing March. Personally, I am not a fan of winter all that much. The older I become, the more I dislike the cold. But as with everything in life, we can’t have everything we want. We didn’t have any more snow overnight, but yesterday we did have another 2–3 inches.

On another note, I didn’t do all that much yesterday outside, but I did work steadily on my new book that I am putting together. Today I will do the same, being so cold outside.

With that, I am off for a piece of toast using our homemade bread we made yesterday. Should be tasty. My wife and I usually make our own, as we don’t like the taste of store bought bread. And it saves us some money with what they are charging for a loaf in the stores today. And on top of all that, a person doesn’t know what they are putting in it.

Have a great day and stay safe. GW

Good Morning!

It’s another cloudy, snowy day here waking up. We didn’t have all that much new snow overnight, maybe an inch. But, it is still snowing, so we will be getting a bit more as the day moves forward. The wind has also switched, coming in from the north-east; which brought in some colder temperature. Getting out of bed, it was sitting at -12.6 C | 9.32 F. It will get a lot colder as we edge into tonight. So an extra blanket on the old bed might be in order later on as we move into the evening hours.

Highway 522 is about half covered with snow waking up, which won’t make travelling all that good. I would think if you don’t have anything pressing, it would be a good day to stay home. That’s what my wife and I are going to be doing.

On another note, my wife and I did get our driveway and decks cleared of snow along with helping out our neighbour on the east side of our home. She is 94 years young. Actually, her birthday was a couple of days ago.

With that, I am off for some Port Loring Toast this morning with a bit of Mike Clapperton’s World’s Finest Maple Syrup. Which should give us the energy needed to get through the day. I think we are going to be needing it by the looks of the snow that is coming down. Stay safe, still a lot of sickness floating around. GW

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring. The temperature has dropped through the night, with it sitting at -14.4 C | 6.08 F. It will warm up a wee bit, but not much. And then it will drop even colder for the next two days. So back to a roller-coast kind of weather. Highway 522 is pretty well clear of snow this morning, but there are still a lot of icy sections throughout. We had another 5 inches or so of snow yesterday.

So knowing that my snowblower is going to get a work out later on today. As our driveway needs cleaning. I will see how that goes in a bit.

Other than that, not too much happening in and around our small town these days.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal and will then see what the day has in store. GW

What’s Happening In Port Loring, Ontario On Feb 21/2023

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy, snowy morning here, waking up. We didn’t have any snow overnight. However, around 4:30 AM it started and as of now we have another 4 inches or so on the ground. And it is still snowing. So we will be getting a bit more as the day moves forward. Knowing and seeing that we will have to wake up our snow blower once again. But we will wait till tomorrow or later on today until it has it out of its system. No use cleaning things up now and have to do it again later. Highway 522 is completely snow covered this morning, so travelling won’t be all that good. It’s the kind of day you’re better off staying at home. And that is what my lovely wife and I are going to do.

On another note, we are still burning wood here in our furnace. And if things work out, I think we will have just enough to bring us into spring without having to burn any oil. I don’t have any more wood left than what we have in our basement, as we put all we did have in last fall. We will see how that works out. Being that it hasn’t been all that cold, we have been splitting it into smaller pieces, so it lasts longer.

Yesterday I worked away here on my computer while my wife did the wash and things. She is feeling somewhat better now, so we are hoping it lasts and doesn’t come back as it did before. What ever it is. Again, we will see how that works out.

With that I am off for some pancakes this morning for breakfast and will then see what the day has in store. Stay Safe. GW

Good Morning!

So. How you all doing this morning. Good I hope. My wife and I are slowly improving health wise. At least we think we are, as we have had this thing, what ever it is, for over two or three months. Goes away and then reappears. Other than that we are moving around making the best of it.

We didn’t have any more snow through the night, but we are having some now. I don’t suspect we will have too much today, but tomorrow is another story, where we could have up to 8 inches or so. Winter isn’t done with us, yet, that’s for sure. Highway 522 is mostly bare, with a few icy sections throughout. Travelling will be fair for a while.

On another note, the snowmobiles have been out in full force for the past week. Hundreds of them moving through our town on trails that reside all around us. The restaurants and places of business will like that. Good to see folks out and about enjoying life, and getting some fresh air for a change.

Yesterday I worked away here on my computer, it had a few issues. I couldn’t get it to boot up and had to ask my son, Karl, to take a look see, at what was going on. After an hour or so of trying to figure it out, he found it was my brand new Microsoft Key Board that was messing up. I disconnected it, replacing it with an old one I had lying around, and we were good to go.

After that I did a bit of work here on my new Mystery Novel that I have been working on all month and today will carry on.

With that I am off for a bowl of cereal that my lovely wife is putting together, and will then see what takes place. You never know what a day might bring.

Oh, and Happy Family Day. Not sure why they didn’t combine it with Valentine’s Day and give everyone a day off work. The thoughts of our Powers That Be are beyond human comprehension.
That’s how it’s been, since I have been alive, and I don’t believe it will ever change.

Why? Because none of them care about the well-being of the general-public; instead, they are all concerned with their own interests. GW

Good Morning!

It’s a cloud morning here, waking up. We won’t see very much sunshine today. However, it will warm up to well above the freezing mark today. The warmer temperatures will remain with us for the next couple of days. With some more snow thrown in for good measure. After that, we will be back into the deep freeze for the remainder of the month and into March. March will remain cold for the first two weeks, and after that things will trend towards spring. We will see how that pans out. I go by what is taking place in the air masses that lies above us. But hey, I could be wrong, as Mother Nature has its own way of doing things. Maybe we need to rejuvenate one of them weather balloons, that China is sending over us, that we have been shooting down. Or … that is what they are saying they are. Ha Ha. I don’t believe one word they say. But here again that’s only my opinion. Highway 522 is bare this morning, which should make travelling fair for a few hours.

On another note, I did make a run to the dump yesterday, getting rid of a couple of weeks garbage. I like to keep it cleaned up. It also gave me a chance to get out of the house and breath in some of our fresh northern air. Which is what is needed these days.

With that I am off for my breakfast which my lovely wife is going to prepare for me, and we will see after that. She has started to feel better over the past two days. Let’s hope the trend holds. Stay safe. GW

Good Morning!

It’s a cloud morning here in Port Loring. It is also a bit cooler than what it has been, with it sitting at -3.1 C | 26.42 F. It will warm up to a touch above the freezing mark as the day moves forward. And it will warm up even more for tomorrow, which should bring us some more melting. We did have another 5 inches or so the night before last. Which kept me busy cleaning our driveway. I didn’t get it all finished as my wife was sick in bed. But at least we can get in and out of the driveway if need be. After that I worked on a few things here in the house helping out my lovely wife. When one of the team isn’t well, the other one takes over and pulls the load. Kind of like the old pair of Clydesdale we used to have many years ago. The good old days.

On another note, highway 522 is bare this morning, which will make travelling pretty good for those having to go to North bay or where ever.

With that I am going to see how my wife is and then will see what the day has in store. I hear her moving around, which is a good sign. Maybe I will get my hair combed this morning. Ha ha. You know, she has been doing that now every morning for almost fifty years. Amazing how a little thing like that can mean so much.

Have a good day and stay safe. There is a lot of sickness out there at the moment. GW
