What’s Happening On April 5/2022

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It will remain cloudy pretty well all day. The temperature waking up was sitting at 1.6 C | 34.88 F. It will warm up a few degrees as the day progresses. Yesterday we lost more of our snow, which is okay by me. And we are starting to see a wee bit of green instead of white for a change. Hmm, maybe I might have to think on getting our riding mower along with our walk behind ready for what’s to come. First though, we have to clean things up, as there are a lot of old dead branches that has come down from our pines over the winter. Lots to do this time of year. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, which will make travelling good. In saying that, if you have to go anywhere I would recommend you wearing your mask as this virus is catching up to a lot of folks. Better be safe than sorry. Some say it’s no worse than a cold. Some are very sick. And some have died. Myself, I prefer not to chance it.

With that, I am off for a boiled egg and a piece of toast that my lovely wife is making for me, and will then get to work in the woodworking shop. Got lots on the go these days with getting things ready for our gift shop. Take care and stay safe. GW

It’s a sunny morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It is still cool with a touch of frost everywhere. The temperature waking up was sitting at -2.8 C | 26.96 F. It will warm up a lot as the day moves forward. We might be able to do some front porch sittin’ later on. Looking forward to it. Highway 522 is bare and dry, which will make travelling good today. The ice on the lakes are melting fast these days, I would say it’s about half gone. Still lots to go though, but this warm weather will make short work of it.

On another note, I have been working in the woodworking shop for the past few days getting things in order, along with making a few things that we need here in the house. It’s nice to be able to make your own items. Especially with the price of lumber these days. It’s crazy out there with what they are charging. Especially here in Canada, where we have trees galore and supposedly millions of people wanting jobs. Hard to figure.

I also put some wood in my shop stove with it being a bit cool along with the house furnace. Trying to save a bit of oil with the price of it being ridiculous. So with that I am off for a bowl of cereal that my lovely wife is making for me, and will then see what the day has in store, other than what I have planned. Oh, first I will feed our birds. Can’t forget them as they do give us a lot of enjoyment. Stay safe and have a great day. GW

What’s Happening On April 2/2022

Good Morning! It’s a cold, frosty morning here in Northern Ontario, Canada. The temperature climbing out of bed was sitting at-6.6 C | 20.12 F. A little colder than yesterday. Cold enough for me to get up through the night to feed our wood furnace. Not that I had to mind ya, but since I was up anyway I figured I might as well put a couple pieces, which in turn will save some oil. The price of gas, oil and Propane is ridiculous these days. And the worst part is our Powers That Be raised it another 2 cents for their green thing. Makes me shake my head. And you know what bothers me the most? They say, oh, don’t worry, we will give you a rebate. That’s a laugh, for sure. My way of looking at it is, if they are going to give us a rebate, why charge us to begin with. This what they are doing isn’t going to help our environment one bit. My opinion only, of course. It’s just someone wanting to be noticed. Well … they will and are being noticed.

Anyway, I had my say on the subject. Getting all in a huff before I even had my first cup of coffee. Sheesh!

Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, which will make travelling good.

Have a great day, I am going to get myself a cup of coffee. GW

What’s Happening April 1/2022

We had two feet of snow here in Northern Ontario, Canada, and more is coming down.

April fools. LOL However, we are having some snow coming down at the moment. I suspect we will get around an inch or so of new snow. Yesterday we got rid of a bunch more and all the ice we had the day before that. The temperatures aren’t as warm today, with it sitting at -3.3 C | 26.06 F. It will arm up a bit more as the day moves forward. We also had some real high winds yesterday that made a mess out on our lawn. But it will have to wait till it warms up some before we get to cleaning things up.

On another note, we are still burning wood in the house and shop. Not that cold, but cold enough to make it uncomfortable. Yesterday I started working on some projects in my woodworking shop and today will carry on. I am making a railing for the top of our stairs here in the house. Which will make things safer for those going up and down. Then after that I will make a banister to hang onto. That should keep me busy for most of the day.
With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal and will then get to work. Take care and stay safe, this virus is closing in on us here in Port Loring fast these days with a lot of folks being sick. I think it will only get worse before it gets better with the masks mandate being removed. My wife and I still wear ours and will continue to do so for the next year or so when going into stores and things. Why? They keep us on the safe side along with others. We couldn’t begin to imagine what it would be like to live with the thought of catching the virus and giving it to someone else. Have a great day.

What’s Happening On March 30/2022

Good Morning. It’s another cool, cloudy morning here in Northern Ontario, Canada. Highway at the moment is bare and dry. In saying that we some not so good weather will be moving into our area later on today. Along with the not so good weather, we will be seeing some strong winds.

So knowing all that, I am thinking I will bring in a few wheel barrels of wood for our wood furnace as I am almost out. With the ice they are calling for and the high winds, we could have some power outages. That’s the nice thing about wood heat, we are always warm. No matter what weather Mother Nature throws at us.

On another note, my wife and I had a very busy day moving things around in our home here getting things ready for our new store. I am not sure about you, but we sure have a lot of stuffffff. We are thinking we might have a garage sale early this spring and see if we can unload a bit. Couple pack rats we are. Sheesh. It took us all day yesterday, and we still have more to do today to finish it up. Well it will never be finished, but at least we will know what we have and where things are. LOL.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal and will then get to work. I’m ready, but not sure about some parts of my body. Have a great day. GW

What’s Happening On May 29/2022

Good Morning!

We are finally seeing some sunshine here in Northern Ontario, Canada. It’s about time. The only issue relating to that … it’s still very cold outside. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at … -10.9 C | 12.38 F. Not as cold as yesterday morning. But cold. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning. And if you are in need of some things in the big city, I would recommend you go today. Reason being, tomorrow we could be in for a bad storm, starting off with snow, moving then to ice and along with all that some very high winds, which could cause some power outages. The reason for this is that a cold front is upon us now, with a warm front moving in alongside it. Which in turn isn’t a good scenario. And then moving into Thursday, things will be a lot warmer, but we will be having some rain. So once again a mixed bag of weather is about to enter into our area.

On another note, my wife and I worked steadily placing our products in our gift shop yesterday. Today we will be doing the same. I also have a lot of computer work that needs doing, so will tray and get to that in my spare time. Then after that, I am going to get my mind focusing on some woodworking projects I have in mind. So lots of things on the go here at the Walters house.

With that I am off for a bowl of cereal and a piece of toast, that my lovely wife is preparing, and will then get to work. Have a great day. GW

It’s a cloudy, cold morning here in Northern Ontario. The temperature waking up was sitting at -14.6 C | 5.72 F. It will warm up somewhat as the day moves forward. But it will still feel cold. Highway 522 is mostly bare and dry this morning. Which will make travelling good. We didn’t have any more snow overnight. So far, I would say we have lost around 75% of our winter snow. Once the temperatures start to warm up again, it won’t last long.

On another note, I worked away here yesterday writing up another story for my columns. Today being so cold, I will do the same. I just don’t feel like working in my old woodworking shop yet. It seems I am feeling the cold more than I used to. Sign of the times, I suppose.

With that, I am off to lite my wood furnace, which will save some of that expensive oil they are selling these days. And after that I will have a bowl of cereal that my lovely wife is preparing for me. Stay safe and have a great day. GW

What’s Happening On March 27/2022

It’s a cloudy, cold morning here in Northern Ontario, Canada. The temperature climbing out of bed was sitting at -13.4 C | 7.88 F. It won’t warm up much more than it is now. We also had a dusting of snow, which has covered what green we did have. Highway 522 is partially snow and ice covered. Knowing that care will have to be taken if out and about.

On another note, this cold weather shouldn’t stay with us for too long. I am thinking the middle of next week we should start to see a warming trend once again. Being so cold, I lit our wood furnace this morning, which is starting to make the house feel nice and toasty. It should also be noted that it is windy out there this morning, which will make it feel much colder than it really is. We have lost a lot of our snow though over the past few days and the ice is melting fast on the lakes and streams. About half gone.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal this morning that my lovely wife is making for me, and after that will do some more work here in our small gift shop. It’s coming along. Have a great day and stay safe, this virus is starting to find people now, with everyone going back to what once was. And no one is telling us any more of what is really happening. They don’t want us to know. It’s called mind manipulation. And they are good at it. GW

What’s Happening On March 26/2022

Good Morning. It’s a cloudy morning here in Northern Ontario, Canada. It is also a bit on the cool side too, with the temperature waking up sitting at -0.8 C | 30.56 F. And the not so good part, it will get even colder for the next couple of days, with a bit of snow mixed in for good measure. At any rate, there isn’t anything we humans can do about it other than find some things to do where it is warm. It’s that time of year. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, which should make travelling pretty good today.

On another note, I worked steadily once again helping my little woman decorate our small gift shop. It’s coming along and is beginning to look like a store. Today I will be helping her with some other things that need doing. Which will keep us both busy for most of the day.

I have heard we have a few people infected here in our small community, so extra care will have to be taken if out and about. Jake’s restaurant had a sign on it closed. But it’s to be expected with the masks being removed, and a lot of folks not taking precautions any more. With that, I am off for a boiled egg and a piece of toast that my lovely wife is making for me. Have a great day and stay safe. GW

What’s Happening On March 24/2022

Good Morning! It’s a rainy morning here in Northern Ontario, Canada. We did have some icy conditions throughout the night. At the moment, the ice has changed to rain, so the highways should be pretty good in another couple hours. Other than being wet. But Care should be taken if out and about. The temperature is above the freezing mark, sitting at 3.8 C | 38.84 F. It will warm up a bit more as the day moves forward.

Yesterday I worked once again steadily in our small gift shop. I finished up my painting and things, and now it’s up to my lovely wife to situate things. We did have a lot of items left from two years ago before this virus hit, so that will help us out for a while. I also have another thirty Flutes in the works, so I will get them finished up in a couple of weeks. Which will give us a good showing. Along with all them, we also have our 7 books on display for sale, along with lots of paintings and cards that my lovely wife has done up. So … all in all, we will have a lot to offer this year.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal that my wife is making for me, and will then see what the day has in store, other than what I have planned. You never know, these days. Take care, and stay safe. Without the masks, this virus will be infecting a lot more people. It should be also noted that they aren’t truthfully telling us any more of how many are being infected, or how many are dying. It’s a shame too, as we do have the right to know, as with knowing some might take more precautions. The ones that don’t care, will only come to realize what is going on … when it strikes close to home. Which it will eventually.

It’s a cloudy morning here in Northern Ontario, Canada. And by the looks of things we could see some not so good weather later on today and through the night. Depends on which way the storm tracks. Highway 522 is bare and dry as of now, but that could change later on.

On another note, yesterday I painted steadily all day in our small gift shop and other than a few touch up spots it should be finished and ready for my lovely wife to decorate, and once that is finished we will start stocking it. We have lots of neat things from our old store sitting upstairs waiting. This will be the first time in two years we have been open, thanks to the virus. It will be nice to see some of our old friends that usually drop by for a visit throughout the summer months. That is, if they haven’t forgotten about us. Ha Ha.

With that I am off for a boiled egg this morning and a piece of toast and I think we will have a cup of coffee too for a change. We usually have coffee around 2:00 in the afternoon. Hmm, maybe we will have a couple cups today. They say coffee in moderation is good for your health. Which I suspect is right. Take care and stay safe. GW

It’s another sunny day here in Northern Ontario, Canada. The temperature waking up was sitting at -5.7 C | 21.74 F. a touch cool, but it will warm up as the day moves forward. Highway 522 is bare and dry, which will make travelling good today for those having to go anywhere.

Our snow is about 3/4 gone, and we should lose a lot more as the day progresses, as the temperatures will remain well above the freezing mark. After today, we will be returning to a mixed bag of weather for a few days. Which is to expected being spring and all.

Yesterday I painted trim all day and today will do the same. Our small gift shop is coming along, all’s it takes is time. Which is okay with me. We also had our coffee in the sunshine on our front porch. What could be better than that. Coffee, good company and taking in what Mother Nature has to offer. Not much else happening in and around our small community.

With that, I am off for some waffles this morning that my lovely wife is making for me. They sure are tasty. Have a great day and take extra precautions, as with the masks coming off, you have more chances of catching things, which people are going to find out. GW

It is a touch cool this morning, with the temperature getting out of bed sitting at -2.9 C | 26.78 F. Maybe I should rephrase that. It’s cold. Highway 522 is bare and dry. We also woke up to some sunshine, which is sure nice to see. Things will warm up well above the freezing mark again today.

Yesterday, my lovely wife and I did some front porch sittin’ for the first time this year. The wind was coming from the North, so with our front porch being on the south side of the house, it was quite nice out there. It sure felt good. I am thinking we will be able to get out again today by the looks of things.

We also worked away on our small gift shop once again, and now I have to get myself in painting mode for a few days, so it will be ready for my wife to decorate and situate our products. It should be nice when all said and done.

With that I am off for a boiled egg and a piece of toast that my wife is making for me and will then get to work. Stay safe. This virus is still with us, it hasn’t gone anywhere. GW

Starting things off, it is a cloudy morning once again here in Northern Ontario. It is a touch cool with the temperature sitting at 1.3 C | 34.34 F. It will warm up a lot as the day moves forward. Which will get rid of a lot more snow. We have lost over half of what we had. In the bush around the trees, we are now seeing green once again. Which is a sign that the trees are starting to move their sap up through their branches. Won’t be long, and we will start to see buds. Can’t wait. Highway 522 is bare and wet with all the rain we had yesterday. But travelling will be good for those wanting to go anywhere.

On another note, I worked away writing up a story yesterday, along with helping my wife a bit. Things are coming along with getting our small gift shop in order. Won’t be long, and we will give it a fresh coat of paint. Then after that the little woman will be busy decorating it. Which she is good at, as she has been designing stores and homes for years. Woman of many talents.

So with that I am off for a bowl of cereal, and will then see what the day has in store. Not sure what I will be up to today. Have a great day. It won’t be long before the warm weather is upon us.

What’s Happening On March 19/2022

It’s a cloudy morning here in Northern Ontario, Canada. It also has cooled down somewhat, but … not enough for the snow to stop melting. Waking up, the temperature was sitting at 3.8 C | 38.84 F. It will warm up a bi as the day moves forward. The snow has been melting fast for the past few days. I would say it is about half gone. I can now see green where my septic tank is located. Which in reality is a good sign as it tells us that our septic is working properly. Highway 522 is bare and mostly dry this morning, which will make travelling pretty good.

On another note, with the snow melting, it is starting to look a bit grungy out there with all the debris spread all over from winter. But once the snow is melted, my wife and I will get to cleaning things up. Can’t wait. At the moment, we are working hard getting our small store set up for this coming summer. A lot of preparations are needed to make it so. But we will get there, just takes time.

With that I am off for a bowl of cereal, no … maybe some pancakes this morning for a change along with a cup of tea. Not that we are English, mind ya. After that I will see about helping my lovely wife for a bit, and after that if something comes to mind I might write up another story. I enjoy writing, but over the years I have written so many stories, it’s hard to come up with new ones. Oh well … such is life. If that is all I have to worry about, I am doing okay. Have a great day! Make it a great day!

Not too much is happening today, actually. The temperature however is still above the freezing mark, which in turn is melting our snow quite fast. Another week or so it should be gone, that is if these temperatures hold the way they are now. Highway 522 is bare and mostly dry this morning, which will make travelling a go. Gas prices have dropped a wee bit in the past two days in North Bay, but it’s still higher than it should be. It was up $1.96 a Litre now it is sitting at $1.84 a Litre. Canada is sure a crazy country to be living in at the moment, with some of our powers that be not knowing what they are doing. But in reality, it’s always been that way, It’s just a bit more pronounced these days.

On another note, I worked steadily on a couple more stories I had in mind yesterday for my columns, and will continue on doing the same today. A couple more days I should have enough ahead for summer. Which will be nice as I won’t have to sit in front of my computer when the weather gets nice. Front porch sittin’ isn’t that far off.

With that, I am off for a bowl of oatmeal that my lovely wife is making for me, and will then get to work. Take care and have a great day. GW

Starting things off, it is a cloudy morning here in Northern Ontario, Canada. On the good side of things, the temperature is well above the freezing mark, sitting at 5.3 C | 41.54 F. And looking outside the snow is melting fast. If these temperatures keep up, which I think they will, the snow should be almost gone by the end of next week. Yesterday alone we lost a lot. Highway522 is bare and wet this morning, which will make travelling pretty good if you’re in need of some things in the big cities.

Yesterday I worked most of the day here on my computer, along with helping my lovely wife in her studio as she is remodelling. I understand, as I have to do the same in my woodworking shop every so often, with things all over the place.

Today I will do some more work here on my computer, writing up a story or two. Should keep me busy for most of the day. With that, have a great day. GW

It’s a bit foggy today here in Northern Ontario, Canada. The reason for that is, that some warmer temperatures are entering into the picture. You mix warm with cold, you get fog, to some degree. Highway 522 is bare throughout, which will make travelling good today. If lucky, we should see a wee bit of sunshine later on. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at -0.1 C | 31.82 F. It will warm up a bit more as the day moves forward, causing a lot of melting. Which is okay with me.

On another note, I worked away bringing in a wee bit more firewood for my wood furnace yesterday, along with cleaning out the driveway. I didn’t really need to clean out the driveway, but I figured I needed to start getting this old body of mine in shape for what’s to come when things warm up. We also needed some more firewood to hold us over. With the price of gas and oil these days, I suspect it will be hard for those relying only on pensions to get by.

With that I am off for a bowl of cereal and a piece of toast, and will then see what the day has to offer, other than what I have planned. Life is a mystery, that’s for sure.

Have a great day!

It’s a cloudy morning here in Northern Ontario, Canada. And it is still quite cool with the temperature getting out of bed sitting at -10.8 C | 12.56 F. But in saying that things will start to warm up a lot as the day moves forward, and we will be seeing a lot of melting for the next couple of weeks. Which is fine with me, as I am ready for summer and seeing green instead of white when I look out the window. It’s been a long winter. Highway 522 is bare, which will make things nice if you have to go anywhere.

And speaking of going anywhere. The price we are paying for lumber and gas in Canada is terrible, and there is no reason for it. Our government spent millions and more millions of taxpayers dollars, on a pipeline that they shut down, which would have supplied all we needed and then some. They say they want to go green, what a joke that is. We here in Canada are supposed to go green, but yet we supply other countries. Another joke. On the next bit we are supposed to be a peace keeping country we don’t fight, instead we supply other countries with all kinds of weapons, so they can fight. I shake my head in wonder where these so-called powers brains are. Well, I could tell you where … I think their heads are located, but I don’t think I need to.

Damn … what a way to start off a day, sheesh, I think I will go back to bed and get up again. Have a great day, If that is possible. GW

It’s a sunny morning here in Northern Ontario. However, it is still a touch cool with the temperature sitting at -8.9 C | 15.98 F. It will warm up a bit as the day moves forward, and even warmer for tomorrow. And on Wednesday, what can I say, other than we will be well above the freezing mark. No need to go to Florida for March break with those temperatures. Ha Ha. Truth be told, I can’t see why anyone would want to travel yet anyway, with all that is going on in the world today. But hey! Who am I to judge. Highway 522 is mostly bare, but there are some snowy, icy sections throughout.

Yesterday we had another3-4 inches of new snow, but it won’t last long with the temperature on the upswing.

On another note, I didn’t do much yesterday, didn’t feel all that well. I have something going on with my one eye being red and damn sore, not sure what that is all about. Seems a wee bit better today. I told it if it doesn’t get better, I will have to give my doctor friend a call. That usually helps. Ha Ha. Always something these days. With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal this morning that my lovely wife is making me, and will then see if I can write up a story or two. Depends on how this old eye is doing. Have a great day.
