Good Morning! It’s summer weather here in Port Loring, Ontario. The temperature was sitting at 11.9 C | 53.42 F. It will warm up even more as the day moves forward. But enjoy it, as tomorrow we are back into the deep freeze. And we could see some snow on Saturday. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning. Which will make travelling good. We are also having some high winds this morning which is blowing things around. We could see winds today as high as 90 km/h. I did find my hat, which blew away in the last wind storm. Today I will leave it in the house and put another old one I have that sets better. LOL With that I am off for a bowl of cereal and will then get to washing our car. Might be the last chance I get before the real cold weather sets in. It is a mess at the moment. So that will keep me busy for a while. With that, take care and stay safe. GW

At least two GTA school boards are warning students to prepare for a lump of coal this Christmas.
The reason for this is, if this virus gets going, which it will, then the kids might have to work from home. So what’s wrong with that? It’s funny how things have changed over the years, as when I was young, an announcement like the one above, would have made me the happiest kid around. But setting that aside … I honestly believe that most kids would be happy to be working from home today. Sure, there are a few that wouldn’t, but most I think would.
Taking this school thing one step further. I think we all need to realize, that this learning from home will eventually be the norm for most all countries. It’s the sign of the future. You can grumble and complain all you want, but it won’t change one thing, not in the long haul. At the moment it is all about money and jobs. In all honesty, most jobs will still be there, even if we eliminate going to school, meaning buildings, as the kids will still need supervision in the beginning. Kids are smart today, in a lot of ways, and a lot of that smartness hasn’t arrived through the way of schools. They have learned most of what they know on their own … online, or as some call The INTERNET. Can you imagine how much money, the Powers That Be, will save … if they sold all that land, and didn’t have to maintain all them buildings? I guess the next question would be. When it happens, and it will … where, and what will they spend the working man or woman’s money on? That’s the big question. I personally have a few ideas where it could go, if they are interested. My Opinion Only.

The Canadian government will set aside $40 billion — more than $30 billion in U.S. currency — to compensate Indigenous people who faced abuses as children in the country’s residential schools, officials announced Monday. The funds will also be used to reform the country’s troubled child welfare system.
Hmm. Well, if asked, I would say that some dollars going to towards the troubled child welfare system is okay. What happened years ago, though, was done by a few select individuals, and I don’t believe that the working man today, that didn’t have anything to do with them issues, should have to put their hard-earned dollars towards something that wasn’t of their doing. 30 Billion dollars of that could go towards making vaccines right here in Canada, which would save thousands of lives in the coming days, months and years. What happened in the past should remain the past. My opinion only.

Good Morning! Well, it’s not the greatest day for us here in Port Loring, Ontario. At the moment, we are in the midst of freezing rain. My decks outside are ice covered and I soon found out that I needed a touch of salt put down. As you can see, the temperature is hovering right on the freezing mark … 1.8 C | 35.24 F. There is a warning up for our area pertaining to icy conditions and Highway 522 is becoming slippery, so extra care will be needed if out and about. My advice is to stay home today. Tomorrow will be a better day. Warmer and if lucky we might even see some sunshine. My plan is washing our car tomorrow, with the temperature supposedly reaching as high as 50 Degrees Fahrenheit. I still like the old imperial way of doing things. The only reason they changed things to metric is to fool the people. And looking at things, they are doing a damn good job at swaying folks minds to their way of thinking. I don’t let them bother me much anymore, as well, I have seen it all. But then again, they do occasionally throw in something new that makes me shake my head a bit. LOL Yesterday I started to work in my old woodworking shop, but got side tracked. I had some old lumber and things that I was going to take to the dump, but instead I decided since it was a nice day I would just burn it myself, as I have a real good safe spot to burn things. So I got into doing that, and by the time I was finished the day was over. I did accomplish a lot, which will save me doing it in the spring. So with that I am off for a boiled egg with some fried potatoes and a few slices of fried Polish sausage on the side. My lovely wife looks after me, that’s for sure. You all take care, don’t forget to wash your mask and hands if out and about, and more importantly keep your distance, as this virus is spread by being close to others. The thing that gets me is. That people wear the mask, then they shove them into their pocket, then they take them out and put them back on. In doing so, all the germs that were on the outside of the mask are now all over your hands, face and in your pocket. And I wouldn’t hesitate to say that most never think about washing them. Good Morning! It’s a sunny day here in Port Loring Ontario. The sunshine is nice to see, that’s for sure. And it is what almost everyone is missing when it comes to most health related issues. The problem is that most folks today are inside, and if they do get outside, this time of the year, they are covered, so they can’t soak up the sun’s rays which we need. The alternative is taking Vitamin D3. The truth is, this is often-misunderstood “vitamin D” is not a vitamin — it is a prohormone. Prohormones are substances that the body converts to a hormone. In fact, unlike other vitamins, only about 10 percent of the so-called vitamin D the body requires, comes from food (such as dairy products and oily fish), the rest the body makes it for itself. But for the body to make vitamin D, it requires sunshine. Once the body is exposed to the sunlight, a chemical reaction occurs when it hits the skin. I would think that a blood test for vitamin D should be put up there high on the list to have done these days. But hey, what do I know? Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning. Temperatures will begin to drop after Thursday. But Thursday will feel like summer. Yesterday the urge hit, so I worked in the woodworking shop all day and today will do the same. I have a bunch of projects lined up, so we will have a good showing when we open up our small store next spring. This virus has shut us down now for two years. Now, in saying that, we will have to see how we make out with this new virus. If it is real bad, we might just stay closed for another year. We will have to see what spring brings. With that, I am off for a homemade blueberry muffin my lovely wife made, and cup of tea for a change. Take care and stay safe, this new variant is taking over things real fast.

Good Morning! We are finally having a sunny morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. Sure nice to see. And on top of that, it isn’t that cold, which makes it even nicer. I did however start my wood furnaces this morning to take the dampness out of the house. After that, I went out and fed my wood stove in my woodworking shop a few sticks; as I like to keep things warm in there, just in case the urge to make things hits me. I have to admit, it is nice having a warm place to work throughout these cold days of winter. So far though, we haven’t had much of a winter. But that will change in a week or so with things getting back to normal. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, but there are a few icy sections here and there. So care should be taken if out and about. On another note, we sure had some strong winds yesterday. Some gusts got up to 85 Kilometres an hour. We didn’t have any damage though other than the tarp moving around on my boat that I covered earlier. But I managed to get it back in place, loosing my hat in the process. I will have to go and see if I can find it in a bit. Not sure where it went as I can’t see it. Maybe it blew around behind my shop. I like that old hat too. LOL. Moving along … I noticed this morning once again that our turkey visitors are back at our bird feeder. Actually, they have been coming to visit us now for over a week. There is one though that has a bad leg, an old girl. I felt sorry for her and gave them a little extra bird seed. It seems to appreciate it as she looks at me with them big eyes of hers. So with that I am off for a bowl of oatmeal and will then get to writing up a story or two for my columns. Take care and stay safe.

Good Morning! It’s another cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We did have a wee bit of rain through the night, but not much to speak of. However, with the temperatures rising it is melting a lot of our snow, which could cause some flooding for those in low laying areas. Highway 522 is wet but bare, for now. So I suspect if you have to go anywhere, you should be good to go. And these warm temperatures should remain with us for the next six days. Which will make it quite nice and will save on the oil or gas bill. The only problem with that is, that a lot of folks today save a bit here, and then spend it elsewhere, instead of putting it away. LOL, Sign of what our country is becoming. Truth be told, I think … this virus made a lot of people lazy, not wanting to work anymore. In saying that, why would they, as our Powers That Be, keeps handing it out. The thing that bothers me is, that I believe a lot of these huge corporations, along with some people, doesn’t need these hand outs. And the next thing is, I believe that most never pay it back. And no one does anything about it. Oh! They say. Might as well just write it off. Now in saying that, if the working man makes a mistake occasionally, I will say that again; the working man …. these Powers to be are all over them. Makes me shake my head. But I am thinking these folks that sit in there ….. looking down at others with their smug faces, will eventually be brought down to size. I believe the best way to handle things like this, is to let it run its course. Over the years, I have seen it time and time again. Those that take advantage eventually get their just rewards. And the best part about it is … I don’t or didn’t have to do anything but sit back and watch them take the fall. Anyway, that is my rant for this morning, LOL. Good Morning! It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. We did have another two inches of snow overnight. My Lovely wife and I managed to get our driveway cleaned out yesterday, along with our decks and helping our neighbour. She is getting up there in years as we are, and over the years we kinda took her under our wing so to speak, keeping an eye on her, along with helping with things she can’t do anymore. That’s what friends are for, right? Today I will do some work here on my computer, writing up a story or two. I don’t feel like doing any work in my woodworking shop today. I get that way occasionally. Maybe tomorrow. Highway 522 is bare and wet for most parts, but there are some icy sections here and there. We could see some heavy rain, snow and ice over the next couple of days. Reason being the temperatures are going to start to rise. So knowing that care should be taken if out and about. With that, I am off for a boiled egg along with a pork paddy. We buy our own pork roasts, grind them up, and my wife adds her own spices and things to it. They taste real good. Episode 85: Hi folks! I would like to bring to your attention, that this podcast is the first of two. Good Morning!. It’s a cloudy cold morning here in Port Loring Ontario, Canada. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at -15.9 C | 3.38 F. It won’t warm up much more than it is today. We also had around 8 inches of snow yesterday. Highway 522 is snow covered, so care should be taken if out and about. All that said, things will warm up above the freezing mark starting tomorrow and remain above the freezing mark for 7 or 8 days. So … I would suspect that most of our snow will be gone within a few days. But then again, Mother Nature does what it wants. I have to admit, it sure looks pretty out there with all the snow on the trees and things. Along with that, it is nice and quiet, which I like a lot. Yesterday I worked away here on my computer finishing up my Podcasts for Christmas. Tomorrow will be the first of a two part story. Then next Friday it will continue. It was a bit long, so I broke it up some. The first one is called Women of Yesteryear and the second is called Men of Yesteryear. True story about a couple that worked their farm many years ago. Then the following week on the 24th is my Christmas show. So, lots to keep you entertained over Christmas. On another note, we had some unexpected visitors at our bird feeder for the past few mornings. I took a picture or two, which I added to the bottom of this post. Good Morning! It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. The sun did show itself a wee bit earlier. We will probably see some snow later on this afternoon or late this morning. Highway 522 is bare and dry at the moment, with a few icy sections once you’re past Farleys Corners heading East. Seems that stretch of highway 522 is always bad. On another note, I have been working on a couple new podcasts for the past few days along with some more stories for my columns I write for in newspapers and magazines. Keeps me busy and my mind active. Today I suspect I will do much the same. My lovely wife has been busy putting up some Christmas decorations inside the house. Next weekend, she will put up our tree, which means Christmas isn’t far off. Other than that, not much happening in and around our small community. Oh! I guess I could mention that a lot of blue jays are visiting our bird feeder this morning. Along with a few doves, which we like to see. I think they wait in the trees for me to put out some feed every morning. With that, take care and stay safe. GW

As one feller said: There was a time that you would see seniors walk into long-term care with their suitcase and a smile.
“That’s no longer the case,” “These aren’t homes for the aged. They’re warehouses they put them in.”
“We were promised significant change by our powers that be and instead, we’re getting another 30 years, unless we stop it, of for-profit licenses paid for by public money.” And it should also be noted that our powers to be has been awarding tens of thousands of long-term care beds to for-profit operators, among them those with the most horrific records during the pandemic.
It’s a damn shame how a country like Canada treats its seniors. Myself, being a senior, I sometime get the feeling that certain powers that be, want to eliminate us older folks. And I have occasionally heard a few folks whispering, thinking … I don’t hear them saying. Damn Seniors, we would all be better off without them. Myself I have strong shoulders, but for some saying things like that it really hurts. Anyway, … we have to start looking after our old and do it quickly. And for these young bucks out there all full of pi…. and vinegar. I say this, if it wasn’t for us older folks you wouldn’t be here where you are today, in your nice cushy homes without us. That’s all I have to say on the subject.

Good Morning!! We all woke up to a snow covered day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Overnight, I would say we had around 4 inches of very light snow. Sure looks pretty out there. Highway 522 for most parts is wet, but there are a few icy snow covered sections here and there, so care should be taken. If you are in need of anything, this morning would be the time to get it; as Sunday afternoon through Monday evening we will be getting a lot more of the white stuff. Could see up to 12 inches / 35 cm. Kind of depends on which way the storm tracks. Snow is one thing, but with the high winds that will come along with the snow, things could be a bit dicey, if you’re out on the highway. Winds could reach up to 70 km/h/40 mph. Again, it all depends on which way the storm tracks. But if there is any snow to be found, it seems Port Loring gets it. Least so far over the past 20 years that I have lived here. Yesterday I worked on a few things here at my computer, and today I will work on a story or two for my columns in newspapers I write for. So with that I am off for some pancakes this morning with my lovely wife, but first I have to put some more wood in my old woodworking shop stove. It’s nice and cozy in there at the moment. Take care and stay safe. The numbers here in Ontario are rising with this new variant they call Omicron. I often wonder who comes up with these names. You would think they would come up with one that is easy to pronounce. Anyway, let’s hope the vaccines protects those that have had the vaccine. I think it will, especially the Pfizer. But I also suspect the Moderna will work well too. Time will tell.

Good Morning! So how you all doing this morning? Good I hope. Ruth and I are fine so far these days. Normal aches and pains. Some related to the weather, and some related to getting a touch old. But no complaints, really. Waking up, I see things have warmed up a lot with the temperature getting out of bed, sitting at 5.1 C | 41.18 F. It will remain that way with a shower or two for most of the day. I kind of think, by the way my old weather station is looking, we will be in for some more snow along with a lot colder weather, heading into the weekend. But it is December. Speaking of December, Christmas isn’t that far off. 23 Days. We won’t be going anywhere this Christmas, once again. Our youngest son is going to try and come visit for a few days. Our oldest is heading out West for his Christmas. My lovely wife has put up her outside decorations, and today she is going to start putting up her inside decorations. She sure enjoys doing it. I have to admit, it does get you in the Christmas Spirit. 
LOL Yesterday I worked around the house here, today I am going to work on a story or two, along with my Podcast for tomorrow. I am also working on a Christmas Podcast which I will post on December 24 the day before Christmas. 
Highway 522 is bare but wet this morning. Understandable with the weather being so warm and a bit of rain coming down. So it should be good for travelling for those that are in need of doing some shopping. I have heard, that over half of our population here in Ontario is shopping online this year. I suspect that is a good thing with this new variant edging into the picture. But in saying that Pfizer says its vaccine will be strong against the new virus, that is if you have had two shots. And they are working on a new on just in case. So that is good news. With that I am off for a bacon and egg breakfast, with some of our own potatoes fried up a bit with some butter and will then see what the day has in store other than what I have planned.
