Around Town:   Not to much happening.  Farmers Market had it’s opening day.   We here at our small store had a great day with folks dropping by picking up items of choice.  Also noticed my flutes were selling quite well this year.  Early too, so that is a good sign of what is to come.  Right now we have a great selection of flutes and amongst them some wonderful sounding branch flutes, which are all one of a kind.  Amazing how beautiful they sound.  The nice thing is, that you don’t have to know how to read music to play the Native American Flute.  With in minutes one can make music that enhances ones most inner soul.  Also comes with full instructions, along with my expertise giving you a free lesson.  So my friends if your in need of some medicine that soothes the inner mind, drop by and take a look at what I have to offer. Of course we have lots of other items to choose from, the flutes are just the tip of the iceberg.   Have a great day.  GW

Bug Report:   Pretty good out there right now with the cooler weather upon us. Mosquitoes are still a touch annoying, but the dragon flies are cleaning them up quite quickly when they make their appearance.

Information In & Around Port Loring Ontario

Good morning folks.  Well waking up to some rain here this morning.  Much needed though, as my tomatoes were in need of a drink, along with nature herself.  Temperatures are sitting at 18.3 C | 64.94 F.  Will stay that way pretty much throughout the day.

Forecast For Today:  Stormy, much rain enriching the soil as needed. Ending later on this evening.

Bug Reports:  Mosquitoes are in abundance this morning as they just love this kind of weather.  Rain doesn’t hold them back neither, as if out, they will hide in your clothing and come right back inside with with ya.  Went out twice so far this morning bringing one in each time, or so the wife says.

Fishing Times:  Haven’t been out yet myself this year, just been to busy.  But thinking it should be put up higher on the list of things to do in the coming days.  Got the old boat ready to go though, motor is running like a clock after its rest all winter long.  Washed the boat itself and looks pretty good, inviting you might say.  Any ways…for those wanting to do some fishing today in spite of the rain, the old weather stick says the best time to be out there will be from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM.  Then one more time from 3:30 PM – 6:00 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  Not the greatest day to be out there with the rain and all.  But there are those that, weather isn’t a factor.  Good luck.

Around Town:  For those wanting an exact reading on their hydro bills here in Port Loring & District this is the day to read your meter.  Just take a reading and call it in.  You have to specify that you want this reading, not an estimated one, as they have a tendency of sending out estimated bills.  No reason for it neither.  Only takes a second which eliminates the not knowing.    For myself things like that plays on my mind. Over the years I have found if something bugs me a touch, I fix it so it doesn’t…right away.  On another note, with the rain and all it’s a good day to go to town for some groceries or items of interest if your in need.  That way you are home here to enjoy the nice weather, which will be upon us come tomorrow.  I hate missing a day of sunshine sitting in a car.

Enjoy your day my friends.

Forecast For Today:   Unsettled, probably improving later on.

Bug Report: Mosquitoes are out there for sure, but Dragonflies are cleaning them up pretty good.  Great to see them rascals.  There are a few small blackflies out there biting folks too.  Had a few bite me on the legs yesterday while working in my shop.  Pretty itchy too and one has to refrain from scratching, or they just get worse.  Good test for ones constitution.

Fishing Times:   Well this morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from12:00 PM – 3:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  So could just be your day for putting fish in the frying pan.  Good Luck.

Around Town: Not much happening in and around our district these days. Which in one way is a good thing, as that is what folks for most parts come here for….Quietness and Nature.  OK by me.  So my friends enjoy your day.  GW

Good Morning From Port Loring Ontario

Good Morning:  And what a beautiful morning it is.  Sun is shinning and the world is looking like it is establishing stability.  Temperatures this morning are sitting at…14 C | 57.2 F.  It will warm up some as the day moves forward.

Forecast For Today:   Changeable, mending with lots of sunshine.

Bug Report:   Mosquitoes are still in abundance pestering us humans and critters of nature.  The cooler weather though in the mornings have slowed them down some.  Horseflies and Deerflies are slowly entering the picture.  But one seems to adapt with time, to what the elements of our Mother Earth puts forth off and on throughout the year.

Fishing Times:  Well today the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there catching them will be from…11:30 AM – 1:00 PM.  Then a bit later from 3:00 PM – 5:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating for catching them out of 4.  Not the greatest day, but one just never knows really, till he or she puts that bait into the water hidden by a hook of choice.  Good luck.

Around Town:   Quiet for a Sunday morning.  Hardly a car moving up and down Highway 522.  So that tells me tourists haven’t arrived in quantities as of yet and the locals are enjoying life at home.  Kind of what life is all about I would think.  I took a few pictures of our one garden yesterday.  It is growing so nicely with the tomatoes, lettuce & herbs showing off, I figured I would share it with the world.  Eating fresh pesticide and chemical free salads every day. NO GMO.” Sometimes twice a day and what flavour they have.  Juicy with a crisp sense of entertainment that enlightens and entices ones mouth with every bite.  What could be better? Tomatoes are out in blossom also, which will bring upon us some succulent treats in the days ahead. You won’t find them in any grocery store, or fast food restaurant, let me tell you.  Only one way to administer them to ones body.  Grow your own, or find some that does.  Ask before buying if they are planting GMO seeds or spraying them with pesticides, and other chemicals such as fungicides.  if soSAY NO and find someone that does. Click Pictures to enlarge for better viewing.  Also a vase of flowers the wife picked for our table and yours.  Sure smell nice let me tell you.  Nothing can bring more enjoyment into a home that a bouquet of fresh cut flowers.  Entices my nose and spirit, every time I pass them by on entering our home. My lovely wife has a knack at doing these things.  Great lady for sure and I do emphasize lady, which means… A respect for a woman, a title of honour borne by various classes of women of the peerage.   Enjoy your day my friends, soak up some sunshine, eat well and no doctors will be needed.

Information & Things In & Around Port Loring Ontario

Good morning. Well this morning the sun is trying to make an appearance. Temperatures waking up were a touch cool sitting at…12.8 C | 55.04 F.  Being so nice and cool one can sleep like a log. Perfect weather one could say.

Forecast For Today:    Showery early, improving throughout the day.

Bug Report:   Well the only culprit out there annoying folks are the mosquitoes.  Had a camp fire going last night and it was pretty hard to get away from them.  Needles to say we called it a night after dark.  But had fun just the same.

Fishing Times:    This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 8:30 AM – 11:30 AM.  Then once again from 4:30 PM – 7:00 PM.  I give it a 1 fish rating out of 4 for catching them in the morning;  and then a 2 fish rating for catching them in the evening.  Not the greatest day but one just never knows.  Good luck.

Around Town: Very quiet to say the least.  Tourists are waiting to make their appearance in quantity, till after the kids are out of school, which isn’t to far off.  Things should change then.  We have been quite busy this year with improving things around our property, along with adding new products to our small store.  Native American Flutes has been our biggest seller, along with our books this year so far. Wife’s signs for cottages and places also has done quite well, with her always having one or two on the go. But then what can I say….she is a great Artist and does them up well with all kinds of scenes, as she does with all her paintings.  We are in hopes of having a numerous number of her paintings, sketches and originals for sale later on in the summer.  We also changed our sign our front which reads Northern Pine Gallery Of Fine Arts.  Thought that was fitting, as we are surrounded by our huge red pines.  Lovely spot we have here, so if your in the area drop by.

Forecast For Today:   Fairly fine, possible showers early.

Bug Report:   Well things in this department have slowed down some.  Makes it better when bugs and humans get along.  Mosquitoes are still here of course and will be for the rest of the summer. Horse and deerflies will be with us also.  But for most parts the blackflies have left us for another year.  With fishing season upon us, makes it more enjoyable being out with nature, without being pestered to much by these creatures of annoyance.

Fishing Times:   Well this morning things are looking up a touch.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  The old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there today will be from 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM.  Again a bit later from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM.  Then one more time from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM.  Should be able to put some fish on the table for supper today I would think.  Good Luck!

Around Town:  Well our Farmers Market is nearing its yearly appearance.  Mike Buchanan from our LSB asked if I would update its arrival here on the Blog.  Mike is a great guy for sure and if your ever in the need for some construction work, or even a load of stone for your driveway, give him a call.  Great service, price and along with that, he knows his stuff. What’s Happening Here In Port Loring Ontario

Good morning. Well cloudy day waking up, with rain most the day yesterday and all through the night. We had 16 mm of rain.  So thinking Mother Natures has served her critters and planet well.  Also giving my gardens a needed drink.   Waking up temperatures were sitting at;  17.1 C | 62.78 F.

Forecast For Today: Changeable, mending with clouds giving way to some sun.  Then the rest of the week is looking good with lots of sunshine and warm temperatures thrown in for good measure.

Bug Report:   Lots of mosquitoes out there annoying folks to say the least.  Come right inside with you when entering the house.  I believe there is nothing worse than having a couple buzzing around ones head in the night while trying to sleep.  You just know what is about to happen.  Plays on a fellows nerves you could say.  Ah well, if that is all I have to worry about, thinking I am  doing quite well.  Just the same wouldn’t hurt my feelings if them suckers moved on to another place in time.

Fishing Times;   Well the old weather stick is saying the best times to be out there today will be from 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM.  Then once again from 3:00 PM – 6:00 PM.  I give it a 1 fish rating out of 4.  Tomorrow things will start to change for the better.  Good luck.

Around Town:  Quiet for most parts but there are a few venturing into new projects I see as driving down the highway.  Few new homes in the area and lots of construction being the norm for our area.   Went to North Bay yesterday do visit my son Karl who works at NORAD.   Had a great evening and supper there in town, with him taking us out for Father’s Day.  Picked up a couple weeks of groceries and headed on back home.  Being late in the evening it was getting dark and you know…. I have to say here that them road signs are a down right pain for blinding folks while driving at night. When the lights hit them it takes your mind off what you should be looking at, blinding you of what lies ahead.  They should tone that reflector paint down a touch in all sincerity. One of these days someone will get in an accident.  It takes ones eyes a bit to recover after passing each one.  The big yellow ones is my meaning, that shows curves and things.  The rest are fine.  At any rate….food for thought you could say.  Have a great day my friends, heading to have a cup of dandelion tea.  Just dug one up and my lovely wife made us a healthy delicious drink.  Free for the taking one could say.  No doctors needed if you know how to look after yourself.  GW

Port Loring Ontario Information

Good morning. Well not a bad looking day out there this morning.  Temperatures waking up are sitting at; 15.2 C | 59.36 F.  Have to say it is perfect weather for sleeping.   Also with that sun just a shinning it makes a feller want to get outside and do things.  Keeps ones mind heading towards the right perspective.

Forecast For Today;   Changeable, mending as the day opens up to what will be.

Bug Report;  Other than mosquitoes bugging a person not much happening.  Some say..”hey we live in the north, live with it, we hate folks talking about the bugs as nature has a need for them.”  I say… “true, but just the same there is a lot of things that are happening around us but I don’t have to like them.  As far as I am concerned it wouldn’t bother me none if them blood sucking parasites called Mosquitoes moved on to their just rewards.  And quickly.  My opinion only, of course.   Ha ha.

Fishing Times;   This Morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from; 8:00 AM – 11:00 AM.  Then once later on from 2:30 PM – 4:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating for catching them.  Good luck.

Around Town;   Not to much to report here this morning.  Things are quiet.  Lots of flowers though showing off these days.  I took a couple of our peonies.  You know truth be known these perennials may live longer than you do—some have been known to thrive for 100 years.  Amazing what Mother Nature has here on this earth to enrich us with beauty.  Click Pictures to Enlarge.

Happenings In & Around Port Loring

Good morning. Well finally some sun is upon us here in Port Loring.  Just a touch cool though, but should warm up in  a bit.  Tomorrow though we could be back to some more rain and into Tuesday.  Forecast taken from our own weather station here in Port Loring is saying that today it will be:  Changeable, mending as the day moves forward.  Temperatures waking up were sitting at: 11.7 C | 53.06 F, well below normal for this time of year.  Makes one think on just how long of a summer we will be having this year, as we are already nearing July with cool weather still upon us. Lets hope for a warm fall.

Fishing Times For Port Loring:   Well this morning the old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be 8:00 AM – 10:30 AM.  Then once again from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating for catching them.  Good luck!

Bug Report:   Blackflies are all but gone with mosquitoes making up for them.  Thinking they doubled in quantities since the blackflies left.  Hard to do anything in and around the bush and we have a lot of it in our area.  Only thing we can hope for is sunny warm weather with a breeze to keep them at bay.

Around Town:  This morning it is quiet with folks taking life easy.  Myself once it warms up a touch will do some shop work and work up the garden a touch, as with all the rain an cooler temperatures, the weeds are starting to grow a bit more than what is needed.  But I enjoy doing it along as it feeds nitrogen back into the soil.  Tomatoes as of yesterday have some blossoms showing up on a few plants, so thinking we will have some early tomatoes this year.  Business’s around town are doing OK or so they are saying.  Resorts are slowly filling up which is a good thing.  So my friends, enjoy the sunshine that will be with us today.  Soak up some rays, breath in some of our fresh northern air and have a great day.  Oh….and Happy Fathers Day to all those Fathers out there.  Don’t forget to go see yours or call them at the very least.  Makes their day knowing the family is thinking of them.  GW

Information For Port Loring Ontario & District

Good morning.  Well a bit cooler this morning with temperatures sitting at…                    11.3 C | 52.34 F.  Forecast for today taken from our very own weather station is calling for it to be….Fairly fine, possible showers early then sunshine should be upon us with some warmer temperatures.

Fishing Times:    This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from….9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.  Then once again from 3:30 PM – 5:30 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.

Bug Report:  Mosquitoes are still quite bad especially if near the bush. Yesterday with the wind and some sunshine they were held back from their feeding habits upon us humans.  Was OK with me as I had my mowing to do.

Around Town:   Well it is that time of year with the Argyle Fish Enhancement..24th Annual Poker Run closing in on us.  For all the information please click flyer below to enlarge.  ltss-0360Enjoy your day my friends.

Port Loring Ontario, Canada Events & Things

Well good morning.  Hope all is well with everyone this morning.  Sun will slowly make an appearance as the day moves forward.  Temperatures are sitting at…16.7 C | 62.06 F waking up.

Forecast For Port Loring:    Unsettled, probably improving though as the day progresses.

Fishing Times:  For those wanting to head on out and catch a few today the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from11:00 AM –  12:30 PM.  Then again a bit later from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them in the morning and a 3 fish rating out of 4 for catching them in the afternoon.  Good luck.

Bug Report:   Well I don’t think there is any place right now that is escaping the wrath of them mosquitoes.  Kind of makes me think that what they were saying earlier, that the cold spring will eliminate most of them this year is a bit off.   As I can’t rightly say I have ever seen them this bad in the 11 years that we have lived here in Port Loring.  So we have to take it one day at a time.  Lets hope that sun makes its appearance quickly today which will slow them down some.  Mosquitoes like dark and cloudy days.

Around Town:   Lost Channel Inn here in our area has lots happening.  I received a flyer yesterday to be put on the  Blog here for all to take a look at.  Click Flyers To Enlarge for better viewing, of all the information relating to what is happening at there establishment.

Port Lorings Information Centre

Well rainy old morning here in Port Loring Ontario.  But I have to say my gardens needed it. One can water themselves, but it can’t be done as good and thorough as Mother Nature. Thinking my tomatoes grew a foot overnight.  Grass has slowed down some which is OK by me.  But this rain will bring it back to growing for a bit. Temperatures this morning waking up are sitting at….18.5 C | 65.3 F.

Forecast: Stormy, much rain off and on throughout the day.  Things will improve overnight and into tomorrow, with the return of the sunshine.

Bug Report:  Well blackflies are pretty much gone other than a few stragglers hanging around bugging folks.  Mosquitoes now are another story.  Yesterday they were out proceeding the rain in swarms.  Just couldn’t get away from them.  Even my shop was full of them blood sucking parasites.  Had to put my vest on so they wouldn’t be able to bite me through my shirt.  Hoping this isn’t the trend all summer long.  Once the sun comes out it will slow them down some.  Horseflies are here but not biting too much as yet, but Deerflies are becoming irritating.   Joys of the north.

Fishing Times:  Well this morning one might need an umbrella if going out fishing.  The old weather stick is saying though that the best time to be out there will be from…9:30 AM – 2:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  Good luck!

Around Town:    Well not much happening other than voting day here in our small community with folks heading out to the polls, trying to get their favourite candidate into power.  Should be interesting, this time round I am thinking.

Our Farmers Market is about ready to gear up for the summer, you can click the flyer to enlarge below for all the dates of when it will be starting and things. It was delivered to me yesterday. Great place to shop with and pick up them items your in need of without heading on into the city.  Also one is supporting those that work so hard to bring fresh produce and other items to you in an old but stable, healthy atmosphere.  It’s folks like yourself that keeps them alive.  Have a great day my friends and should also mention that if you have anything that you would like to be known by the public, send it along to me in and E-Mail at [email protected] or stop by the house here or you can call me at 705-757-1640. I will gladly add it for all to see.

Port Loring Ontario Canada

Good morning folks.  Well a bit cloudy this morning.  Some rain is in the forecast with the forecast predicting:  Stormy, much rain throughout the day and into this evening.  Temperatures this morning waking up are sitting at…16 C | 60.8 F.  Will warm up a touch as the day progresses.  For your up to date weather info click the following link…http://www.loringlsb.ca/weather-station/

Bug Report:   Well mosquitoes are out there in full force feeding off us humans and critters of warm blood.   Today they will be in abundance with it being cloudy and rain in the forecast.  Blackflies are pretty much gone but there are some out there nibbling on ones arms and ankles.  Deerflies and Horseflies are also making an appearance pestering folks.  So one just has to persevere I suppose.

Fishing Times:  This morning the old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be from…9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.  Then again from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM. I give it a 3 fish rating for catching them today.  Good luck.

Around Town:   As yesterday, lots of campers heading up and down Highway 522 these days.  Won’t be long now and we will be swarming with folks heading off to their cottages and places of stay.  Great to see them arrive each year and enjoying what nature has to offer..  So my friends you all have a great day.  GW.

Cottage Country, Port Loring Ontario, Canada

Morning Folks.  Nice looking day out there.  The rain yesterday that was thinking of coming into our area didn’t arrive.  Maybe a bit today, as our forecast for today is saying it will be…. Showery early, improving though throughout the day.  So thinking not much rain is in our presence at this time.  Temperatures waking up are sitting at…12.4 C | 54.32 F and will warm up a few more degrees a bit later.

Bug Report:  Finding the mosquitoes are quite bad this morning to start things off. Few pesky deerflies also are around.  Also a few blackflies are still annoying folks, but for most parts they are gone for another year.

Fishing Times:   Well this morning looking at the old weather stick and putting things together it seems that the best times to be out there will be from.. 8:30 AM – 10:00 AM then again from 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM an one more time later on from 6:00 PM – 7:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them early in the day and a 3 out of 4 fish rating for catching them later on in the day.  So might pull in a few today.  Good luck!

Around Town:   See lots of tourists and cottage owners moving into the area these days.  Campers, Boats, 4 Wheelers you name it, all are making their appearance for another season.  Great to see them arriving each morning watching them go up and down the highway loaded with things to make their venture into the wilderness more fun and exciting.  For myself I can enjoy nature by sitting in an old chair, quietly taking in what she has to offer.  Guess that is a sign of one getting a touch older.  Not that old though.

Garden Report:   Things are growing quite rapidity these days.  Lettuce, spinach and pretty well all our herbs are being enjoyed each day now.  Tomatoes are starting to show off a bit, but could use a drink.  Was hoping for some rain but thinking now, that I might have to be their source of nourishment, water wise any ways.  Pumpkins an cucumbers are also doing well, along with the squash.  So great year for a garden.  Still not to late to get one started if your interested. Most places have plants already started and wouldn’t take much to get them to growing.  Might be a touch later for your tomatoes, and others with fruits, but still worth while planting.  Well guess that is it for this morning.  Heading out for my Dandelion tea, take in our surrounding scenes and breath in some of that fresh northern air.  Then see where the day brings us. Enjoy your day my friends, get some sunshine on that skin of yours.  No Doctors Needed.

Port Loring Ontario, Canada

Good morning.  Well not too bad of a day out there so far this morning.  Signs are pointing though towards some showers or a thunderstorm later on today.  Temperatures this morning waking up are sitting at…12.8 C | 55.04 F.  Will warm up in a bit.

Forecast:  Rain at frequent intervals.

Bug Report:  Blackflies are pretty much all gone.  Mosquitoes are around though pestering folks somewhat.  But not too bad so far in certain areas.  Did see a deer fly or two yesterday.  They also are an annoyance to those out in the bush, as they don’t leave you alone.  They will even follow you for a mile if they so choose.  Hard to get away from them once they have you in their sights.  Also got quite a bite on them too.  For me they are the worst, more so than the mosquitoes or the blackflies. But one has to put up with these creatures of nature if he or she chooses to live, in this neck of the woods.

Fishing Corner:  Looking at the old weather stick and putting together the formula that has been handed down in our family for many years, it is saying that the best time to be out there will be from 8:00 AM – 10:30 AM, then once again from1:00 PM – 3:00 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating out of 4 for catching them, both times today.  Should be a great day for bringing them in.  Good Luck!

Information Around Town.  Business wise not to much tor report here this morning.  Most folks around here on Sunday take things easy.  Some goes to their place of worship, others just enjoy nature as their guide to happiness.  Seems fitting to me.  I finished up yesterday planting my gardens with vegetables of choice.  I like to put some things in early and then some later on so we have a constant supply of greens throughout the growing season.  We have already started eating from our herb garden, along with our romaine lettuce and kale.  Nothing more healthy than fresh veggies straight from the garden to your plate.  Put them along side a good long walk, soaking up some sunshine and a bit of deep breathing, bringing in our fresh northern air and you got one healthy body.  No Doctors Needed.  Enjoy your day my friends.

In And Around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada

Good morning. Well another beauty of a day for sure.  Temperatures are sitting at…16.9 C | 62.42 F.  Will warm up even more as the day moves forward.

Forecast For Port Loring:  Changeable, mending.  Great day for sure.

Bug Report:  Blackflies are gone to some extent with only a few around.  Cooler weather fixed them.  Hoping they don’t make a come back.  But the worst is over.  Mosquitoes though are another story.  They are onto pestering folks to great extents.  But one has to learn not to put all those chemicals on ones skin as it draws them like a bee to honey.  Truth be known the chemicals that one puts on the body is far worse than the mosquitoes bite in itself.  But hey who am I?

Fishing Times:  For those wanting to do some fishing today the old weather stick along with my grandfathers formula is saying that the best time to be out there will be from 10:00 AM – 12:30 PM. Then once again from 4:00 PM – 7:30 PM.  I give it a 3 fish rating for catching them in the earlier part of the day and a 4 out of 4 rating later on.  Should be a great day for jerking lips.  Good Luck!

News Around Town:    There is a Ride happening here in our area called… Forget Us Not Memorial Ride for Amber Booth.  For all the information pertaining the the Ride..Click the following Link.  It is a great web site, nicely put together and will explain everything in great detail.  Take a look…http://www.forgetusnotride.com/

Happenings In And Around Port Loring, Ontario

Good morning.  Hope all is well with you all on a beautiful Friday Morning.  Sun is shinning with temperatures sitting at…..11.3 C | 52.34 F.  Forecast for this fine day is saying that it will be…Improving as the day progresses.  So can’t beat that.  Also looks like a pretty nice weekend, with a chance of a thunderstorm on Sunday.  Depends how close a system gets that is moving towards us from the USA.

Bug Report:  Have to say the Blackflies were not bad yesterday but that was due to the cooler weather and north winds we had.  Today might be another story. Mosquitoes have picked up some in pestering folks, but still not as bad as last year, at least here at our home.  But on the bright side Fathers Day is closing in and usually not to far after that the Blackflies move on for another year.

Fishing Times:  Today the old weather stick is predicting that the best times to be out there fishing will be from 12:00 PM – 2:00 PM.  Then a bit later from 4:30 PM – 6:30 PM.  I give it a 2 1/2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  Good luck!

Information in and around town: Pretty quiet.  But I have found more folks are opening up their cottages for the season.  Also resorts are gearing up for what is to come.  I kind of thing we will have a good year business wise with the USA moving forward and our dollar on the low side once again.  For some it is good for others it is bad.  I have found it depends on how you make or spend your money.  So my friends, sun is shinning means a great day for soaking up some much needed Vitamin D.  No Doctors Need.  Have a great day.  GW

What’s Happening In and Around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada.

Morning.  Well had a touch of rain early this morning.  Sun is trying to show herself and will a bit later on in the day.

Temperatures: this morning are sitting at…8.6 C | 47.48 F.

Forecast Today: Rather unsettled clearing later.

Bug Report: Well rain and cooler weather slowed them down from biting a touch, for the last couple days, but they will be out in earnest once the sun starts to shine.  Some say the mosquitoes are quite bad where they live, some say they aren’t half as bad as they were last year.  So thinking it is where one resides that makes the difference.  Here where we live they aren’t too bad at all thus far.  Blackflies are irritable for my wife, but for me they are more of a annoyance than anything else, getting into ones eyes, nose, ears and up the pant legs.  They don’t really bite me.  I have seen folks that come into our store chewed up something fierce though.  I tell them to chew up a piece of plantain and administer it to the bite, which will take away any infection, along with stopping the itch within a minute or two.  Just one more tip that will be in my upcoming health book using nothing but Mother Nature to heal yourself.

Fishing Report:  Well after taking a look at the old weather stick and putting my Grandfathers formula together along side it, it shows that the best times to be out there today, will be from 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM.   Then once again from 5:00 PM – 7:30 PM.  I give it a 2 fish rating out of 4 for catching them.  Good luck!

Around Town:  Still quiet for most parts.  The Hardware stores are starting to gear up with folks coming in to purchase things.  Lots of repair work that needs to be done after the long winter we have had I suspect.  Others would be? I was talking to Kerry at Booth’s Service Centre and he said he had lots of work on hand which is what is expected when one does good work.  Also Mike down here at the old Shell station is busy, especially this time of year as he stores folks boats wintering them, along with getting them ready to go back into the water come spring. In-between he fixes all kinds of small engines.  Busy fellow to say the least.  My other friend at Arnstein Garage is also busy and very nice to deal with and does great work. With him and Ace Hardware being the only ones that has gas now in our area, I am surmising that they both will be doing a booming business this coming season.  Also don’t forget to drop by Rupert’s Variety Store while In Arnstein as there is no better place to get a few groceries, along with all kinds of other items of choice. Nice folks to deal with too.   There you have it, some great places to shop and get your items of choice fixed.  I will add to the list of places to shop or visit as time goes by as there is plenty more.  So guess that is about it for this morning.  Hope you all have a great day and if possible try and get outside and breath in some of this fresh northern air, that we have in abundance, all for free.   No Doctors Needed.  GW
