Morning Chat May 25/2021

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy damp rainy day here in Port Loring, Ontario. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 16.8 C | 62.24 F. Not to bad. If we are lucky we might have a wee bit of sunshine later on. But it is calling for more rain tomorrow. So …. knowing that, I guess I will be doing some inside work. Not that, that is a problem, as I have lots to do no matter what the day entails. Yesterday my lovely wife and I worked all day on our new shed out back we are building. We actually had a nice day and the black flies and mosquitoes weren’t all that bad. I have noticed the Dragon Flies are starting to make their appearance, which is a good thing, as they sure clean up them pesky blood sucking parasites. Nature taking care of Nature. Highway 522 is still busy with city folks coming into our area from all over, taking in what we have to offer. Good in one way, not so good in another way. LOL With that I am off for my morning bowl of cereal, and will then see what the day has in store. Life’s a mystery, you just never know what a day might bring. Take care and stay safe, things are still quite bad out there virus wise.

Morning Chat May 23/2021

Good Morning! It’s another cloudy, damp, cool morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. The temperature waking up was sitting at 8.7 C | 47.66 F. It will warm up a wee bit as the day moves forward. The blackflies are still quite bad in certain areas, along with them pesky mosquitoes. Highway 522 is busy these days with lots of campers and things moving up and down the highway. Used to be … I could go to the Hardware store and know everyone that I happened upon. Nowadays, I don’t know half of them. Sign of the times I guess. Reason being, that a lot of people from the big cities are seeing the light, selling, and moving to the country, caused by this virus. I can’t say I blame them. It is also amazing how much the prices of homes have risen here in our area. Truth be told … it is getting hard to find properties for sale any more. Everything has been bought up. Even the vacant land is selling fast these days, with folks putting trailers and mobile homes on them. On another note, our firewood was delivered a couple of days ago, and my wife and I decided to get to work and pile it before it got wet with this rain we have been having. It got a wee bit wet on a few pieces, nothing to be concerned about. We had it all piled under our old lean-to in one and a half days. Not bad for an old feller and a hardworking woman. They call that Team Work! We do everything together. Today I might do some outside work if the weather clears and warms up some. I will see how that goes. This damp cool weather plays havoc on these old bones of mine. LOL But I keep moving. The worst thing us older folks can do is to sit and do nothing. With that I am off for a bowl of cereal and will then see what the day has in store. You never know what a day might bring ya. Take care and stay safe. Things are still quite bad out there. GW

Good Morning! It’s a rainy day here in Port Loring, Ontario. I suspect the showers will remain with us for most of the day. But in saying that … we do need it. Makes me smile as my lovely wife and I just finished planting our vegetable gardens, and they could use a nice drink to get them settled into their new home. Highway 522 is busy these days with folks moving into our area from all over. Kind of makes me wonder with this virus that is among us where some peoples minds are located. On another note, our firewood that we buy every spring arrived yesterday. Even with the heat I managed to pile half of it. Today we will finish it, as we can work under our lean too which should keep us dry for most parts. Once that is done we can get back to building our second lean-too out behind our house. We started building it a few days ago. So lots to do these days. I would also like to build a deck on our new cottage that we fixed up last year. It would be a nice place for our family and guests to sit on them warm summer days. But with the price of lumber these days I will have to give that some thought before I get all gun ho. LOL It’s amazing really two years ago you could buy a 4×8 sheet of 1/2 inch plywood for $22.00. Today it costs me $70.00. I am thinking there is a lot going on that we don’t know with these price increases these days. At any rate, not much we can do other than only buy what is absolutely necessary. So with that bit of information under your hat … I am off for a bowl of oatmeal and will then see what the day has in store. Take care and stay safe. Even with these vaccines that a lot are getting, things aren’t very good at the moment. Some would like you to believe that, but it isn’t. It’s going to take time for things to improve. And just because some have had the vaccine, is no reason to ease up on the safety measures. The virus is still very deadly.

A Smile for a Long weekend

Grandma goes to Court

Your chuckle for the day folks…….a short story… if this actually happened, I would have loved to have been in the courtroom!

Lawyers should never ask a Mississippi grandma a question if they aren’t prepared for the answer.

In a trial, a Southern small-town prosecuting attorney called his first witness, a grandmotherly, elderly woman to the stand. He approached her and asked, ‘Mrs. Jones, do you know me?’ She responded, ‘Why, yes, I do know you, Mr. Williams. I’ve known you since you were a boy, and frankly, you’ve been a big disappointment to me. You lie, you cheat on your wife, and you manipulate people and talk about them behind their backs. You think you’re a big shot when you haven’t the brains to realize you’ll never amount to anything more than a two-bit paper pusher. Yes, I know you.”

The lawyer was stunned. Not knowing what else to do, he pointed across the room and asked, ‘Mrs. Jones, do you know the defence attorney?’

She again replied, ‘Why yes, I do. I’ve known Mr. Bradley since he was a youngster, too. He’s lazy, bigoted, and he has a drinking problem. He can’t build a normal relationship with anyone, and his law practice is one of the worst in the entire state. Not to mention he cheated on his wife with three different women and one of them was your wife. Yes, I know him.”

The defence attorney nearly died when this came out.

The judge immediately asked both counsellors to approach the bench and, in a very quiet voice, said,
“If either of you idiots asks her if she knows me, I’ll send you both to the electric chair.”

Morning Chat May 21/2021

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy Friday morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It has been nice temperature wise for the past few days. This morning it was sitting at 20.6 C | 69.08 F. It will warm up a lot as the day progresses. The blackflies have been bad for the past few days, and they will remain with us till Father’s Day. The mosquitoes are just starting. I think in a lot of ways they are worse than the blackflies. And they love this hot muggy weather. But as I always say … we live in the north, and they are part of the package for living in paradise. LOL Highway 522 is busy these days with folks moving in from other areas. There was an accident on Highway 69 last Wednesday as they were rerouting the traffic our way to highway 11. On another note, my lovely wife and I did get our mowing all finished yesterday, so we are good for another week. The grass is sure growing these days which is nice to see. I like to gather ours and pile it in spots around my vegetable gardens. Then, when it rots a bit, I spread it in between the rows, which in turn makes for some pretty tasty vegetables. I can’t wait till our tomatoes are ready. They won’t be ready for a while though, as this year the plants are quite small. Talking about our vegetable gardens, my wife and I did manage to get it over half planted yesterday. We were sure tired at the end of the day, after mowing, tilling the gardens and then planting. But we slept good. LOL Today our firewood is coming which is a good thing, as it gives it time to dry through the hot days of summer. This year being so dry we are thinking the delivery feller can back right up to where we are going to pile it, which will sure make things a lot easier for us. We won’t have to move it twice. We will see how that goes in a bit. Other than that, not much else happening in and around our small community. Take care and stay safe. GW

Morning Chat May 20/2021

Good Morning! Well, it’s been a couple of days since my last post. The reason being my lovely wife and I have been extra busy working on some outside things. The weather has been nice other than a shower or two. This morning the temperature was sitting at16.7 C | 62.06 F. It will warm up a lot as the day moves forward. Actually it is going to get down right hot for a couple of days. On another note, the black flies have been real bad the past few days. Now the mosquitoes are starting to enter into the picture and this hot, damp, muggy weather will bring them out in droves. Not much we can do about it, as this is the north, and what will be, will be. Yesterday my wife and I went to town to pick up our groceries that we order online. It sure was busy with people moving around all over. So much for being closed down. While there we visited our son in his apartment parking lot. Dropped off a few things, had a chat and went to pick up a few vegetable plants that we ordered for our gardens. Which we will get to planting hopefully later on today. We will have to see what the weather is going to do. Boy are plants expensive this year. It seems that everyone is raising the prices on things relating it to the virus that is among us. Being as old as I am and not being fooled as much these days … I would say there is a lot of price gouging going on. Not a good thing and really there is no reason to be doing this. But … it is what some humans do. After we picked up our plants and had a chat with our son, we had our lunch in our car with a cup of coffee my wife made for us before we left and headed for home. Actually we had a great day. With that I am off for some bacon and eggs that my wife has made for me and will then get to mowing the lawn. Take care and stay safe.

Episode 70: Chairs of Comfort

Episode 70: Hi folks, and yes before you ask I did miss last week’s episode. The reason being my lovely wife and I were quite busy working on a few projects that needed to be done, and I plumb forgot. Anyway, I remembered this morning. Or I should say … my wife did. I hope you enjoy Chairs Of Comfort. Stay safe and have a great day. It sure looks nice out there this morning.

Good Morning! Its another great looking day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is shinning with hardly a cloud in the sky. It is a bit cool waking up with the temperature sitting at 6.7 C | 44.06 F. It will warm up a lot as the day moves forward. No one, I don’t think, will be complaining about the weather today. Now, the Black Flies they are another story. My wife and I worked outside all day yesterday on some things and them black flies kept us moving. The only thing that helped us a bit, was the wind. But even with them annoying us we managed to get a lot done. After lunch the power went out, so we had to use our generator for a spell. Not sure what went wrong there. Highway 522 is busy these days with folks coming in to our area. A lot of people aren’t happy about it neither. Can’t say I blame them. My wife and I are staying put, especially now since we had the Pfizer Vaccine, as we want to give it a chance to build up our antibodies. It will take three or four weeks to gives us some protection if we happen upon someone that is infected. Just the same, we aren’t letting down our defences, that’s for sure. On another note, our grass needs to be cut for the first time, so that will be our job for the day. I have to kind of take it easy as my old back gave out yesterday. I still worked after laying down for a spell, but it was a challenge let me tell you. This morning I am moving around a bit better, but we will see how that goes once I get to doing some work. I believe in taking it easy with a sore back, but not so easy it has a chance to seize up. So … easy does it for me for a couple of days. Figures just when the nice weather arrives and me with a bad back LOL. That’s what I always say …. You just never know what a day will bring. With that I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal and will get to work. I think. Take care and stay safe. GW

Good Morning! We are finally having some sunshine here in Port Loring, Ontario this morning. It is a touch cool with the temperature getting out of bed sitting at 5.6 C | 42.08 F. It will warm up considerably as the day moves forward. And the good part is, that the rest of the week the sunshine will remain with us, along with some warm temperatures. We are heading into summer weather now. But in saying that them pesky blackflies are going to be with us for a few weeks too, along with them blood sucking parasites, the mosquito. Today I have some work to do in my woodworking shop, so after breakfast I will get at that. Man time is sure moving along these days. It won’t be long, and I will be planting my vegetable gardens. Actually, if the temperatures stay warm at night say around 50 F I might be planting within a week. I will be keeping an eye on things. Only one eye … as I need the other, to do other things. LOL On another note, I see that they stopped using the AstraZeneca Vaccine here in Ontario. I have been saying all along that I don’t think this is a safe vaccine to be taking. I do believe in places like India where they don’t have hardly any vaccines at all right now, it would be better than nothing. For my wife and I we couldn’t see taking it and then having to worry whether we would get a brain clot or?. The stress alone would be enough to put a feller out of commission. We have enough on our plate these days without that. Anyways … you all have a great day. Make it a good day and enjoy some of that sunshine. I am a firm believer that the vitamin D 3 we get from the sun can play a major role in helping us humans with this virus that is among us. Along with a lot of other diseases. If a test were taken yo u would find that almost everyone is major low, and I mean major low on vitamin D. Actually one of my sons was getting sick all the time, so I had him ask his doctor to check it out in his blood test. What they found was outstanding. Well below the 22% mark. He was so low that they immediately put him on 50,000 UI. once a week for a few weeks. The test costs $40.00 here in Ontario. But I think everyone should be having it done. Insist on it! In doing so a lot of sickness would be eliminated. But you do what you want to do. Stay safe. GW

Good Morning! It’s a rainy cool morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The temperature waking up was sitting at 2.3 C | 36.14 F. It will remain cool and wet for most of the day. There is a possibility of the sun making an appearance later on, but I suspect we will have to wait till tomorrow. The good news is that starting tomorrow weather wise, things will take a major change with lots of sunshine and warmer temperatures entering into the picture. Summer weather is heading our way. On another note, the Black Flies are starting to annoy us humans. It never fails they are here from Mother’s Day to Father’s Day. And this year they made their appearance right on time. Yesterday being so wet I worked in my woodworking shop cleaning up the mess I made over the past two weeks. Today I will get things together that I will be needing to build a smaller lean too for my wood outback of my house. I figure it should be big enough to hold around 3 or 4 cords. It will make things a lot easier to get at the firewood come winter. After that I will work on a story or two for my columns in the Newspapers I write for. I like to get them done, so I don’t have to be inside when the nice weather is upon us. With that … I guess I will go for my morning bowl of cereal and will then see what the day has in store. You just never know. Take care and stay safe. GW

Good afternoon May 10/2021

It’s a cloudy day here in Port Loring Ontario. We did have a wee bit of sunshine earlier, which was nice as I finally got finished installing my under drainage pipes in behind my house. The problem I was having was that the water from the eve troughs wasn’t running away from the house. I have been wanting to do that for the past 17 years LOL. So this was the year. Took a lot of digging to do it by hand, with some of it being in clay. I got a good deal from Home Hardware on some under drainage pipes which made it even nicer. So now we will wait and see what happens when we get a rain. I don’t see any reasons why it won’t work. Now I am going to build a lean too for my firewood behind my house. I do have a large one, but I figured it would be nice to have one closer to where I put it in the house. And if I get time I will maybe add a fish cleaning station on the ones end of. Maybe even a light to see what we are doing as most of the time when we come in from fishing it is a getting dark. So lots to do. With that I am off for a bite to eat, and I think I can smell coffee brewing. Nothing like a fresh pot of perked coffee. Take care and stay safe … things aren’t all that good right now with this virus. GW

Morning Chat May 9/2021

Good Morning! It’s a cool morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. The temperature waking up was sitting at 6.1 C | 42.98 F. By the looks of things we will be having a really nice Mother’s Day. Tomorrow though we will be back to some rain and cooler temperatures. So …. if you have some outside work to be done, today is the day. I have lots to do as my lovely wife does, so we will be looking after that and tomorrow we will take the day off. Yesterday I did get a lot done on our shower house for our cottage to be. Today I will carry on. I should mow our grass, but I am thinking we can wait for a couple more days. And I don’t feel like doing it today LOL. Highway 522 is pretty busy with folks moving around along with others coming into our area from other places. I was told we have 4 cases here in town now. Knowing that extra care should be taken. In a small town, it can infect a lot of people if we aren’t careful. I think most are, but there are some that don’t seem to give a damn. Makes me shake my head in wonder. I guess the only way these people will learn is if they become infected or a loved one. Anyways enough of that. It’s Mother’s Day. A time to remember your Mother and all she does and has done for you. Take care and stay safe. GW

Good Morning! It’s a bit cloudy here in Port Loring, Ontario this morning. And it is also a bit cool with the temperature getting out of bed sitting at 3.7 C | 38.66 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward. We should see some sunshine off and on throughout the day. Highway 522 is picking up these days, with campers, trucks you name it moving up and down the highway. So much for the stay at home order. It also looks like my lovely wife and I might have to do some grass cuttin’ this week by the looks of things. It is getting a bit long. The dandelions are showing off with flowers everywhere. I am thinking it is time to pick a couple and make a tea. They are a very healthy plant to eat, or make a tea from. We just pull a small one, and my wife washes it good and drops it into a pot of boiling water. Say around three cups. Let it set for ten minutes, and it’s ready to drink. What could be simpler than that. On another note, my wife and I went to North Bay and had our first shot of the vaccine last Thursday. Everything went well, and I was surprised at how well they handled things on the safety end of things. Once you park your car they take care of everything. On the side effect and needle part of things neither one of us felt anything, and it’s been three days since we had it. Other than maybe a bit of a sore arm where they administered the vaccine, when I laid on it through the night. Other than that things are good. It’s not a 100% guarantee, but it should save our life if we do happen to catch it. But not right away maybe in three weeks or so. As it takes time for the body to get things up to par now that it knows what to look for which is what the vaccine does. It makes the body aware of what is taking place. Pretty amazing really. The second shot will bring the bodies antibodies up even more to where it can fight it a lot better. But that won’t be until August. I am kind of hoping that they move that date up a bit. We will have to see what they do. The vaccine my wife and I had, was the Pfizer. After all my research I have come to the conclusion for now, the Pfizer or the Moderna is the best there is. It is a newer way of doing things which I believe is the way of the future, and you know … I have a feeling that we will soon be able to take a vaccine that will stop most of all our cancers. Now wouldn’t that be nice. One other note that should be addressed is I haven’t found any ingredient in the Pfizer or the Moderna that can harm you. It is basically made up with Salts, Oils and Sugar, along with the mRNA. Also known as messenger, mRNA is the only active ingredient in the vaccine. The mRNA molecules contain the genetic material that provide instructions for our body on how to make a viral protein that triggers an immune response within our bodies. The immune response is what causes our bodies to make the antibodies needed to protect us from getting infected if exposed to the coronavirus. With that, I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal, and will then head on off to the dump. Things have been piling up here for the past week or so. Take care and stay safe it is getting terrible out there with more deaths every day here in Ontario. I am hoping a lot of more people will start seeing that this virus, is … very dangerous.

Morning Post May 6/2021

Good Morning! It was a very foggy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario Canada. Along with being a touch cool with the temperature sitting at 0.1 C | 32.18 F. Actually we had a heavy frost through the night. But the sun is making short work of things, as the skies are clearing as I type. It will warm up as the day progresses which in turn will make it nice for those that want to get outside and soak up some of that Vitamin D3. Which is what everyone is in need of right now. Especially with this virus among us. I would say it is the next best thing we have in our arsenal of defences, other than the Vaccines. On another note … I didn’t get outside yesterday, but I did do up a couple stories for my newspaper columns. With that … I am off for my morning bowl of cereal and will then see what mischief I can get into. Or so my lovely wife says. Take care and stay safe. GW

Good Morning! It’s another cloudy cool morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. Yesterday it rained for most of the day. Today will be about the same. The temperature waking up was sitting at 6 C | 42.8 F. It won’t warm up much more than it is now. Highway 522 is slightly busy. On another note I didn’t work outside yesterday being so wet and cold. Today I will stay inside and work on a story or two. Not much else happening in and around our community. With that you all have a great day and stay safe. GW

Morning Chat May 4/2021

Good Morning! It’s a rainy day here in Port Loring, Ontario. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 5.7 C | 42.26 F. I am afraid the rain will remain with us for most of the day. Highway 522 is picking up with more people travelling every day. On another note the grass is about ready to cut for the first time this year. I do have a lot of outside work that needs to be done, but with it being so cold and wet I haven’t felt like doing anything. And you know? I can do that. LOL Yesterday I worked in our cottage to be, helping my lovely wife for a while. Later on I wrote up a story for my newspaper columns. Today being so wet I will stay inside. With that I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal and will then let the day unfold around me. Take care, and stay safe. This virus is sure taking its toll on the young these days, and our hospitals are full. Things should start to taper off once folks get vaccinated, along with staying home. Some don’t like it, but truth be told … they are the only things we have that protects us, or at the very least keeps us out of the hospitals. Have a good day. GW

Morning Chat May 3/2021

Good Morning! It’s another cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. The temperature isn’t all that bad sitting at 8.7 C | 47.66 F. It will warm up a bit, but we can expect some showers off and on now for the next few days. Highway 522 is picking up with tourists. I suspect it is caused from people being told to stay at home, and being at home they say hey! I am getting paid to stay at home, I might as well go camping or to a cottage. In certain instances I get it, in others when going in and out of stores maybe infecting others or getting infected, I don’t. On another note, my lovely wife and I did manage to get a lot done in our cottage to be yesterday, hanging a new cupboard I made. Installing a new fridge along with some cleaning. Well … my wife did the cleaning. She is a stickler when it comes to cleanness. LOL Today I will work inside and maybe do a bit of work after lunch in my woodworking shop. I have a shelf for our cottage I am working on, that I want to finish. It’s nice to be able to do these things. I have to admit, our lifestyle hasn’t changed all that much since this virus entered into the picture. And the few things that have changed we both adapted, as we have done all our lives, I can’t see sitting around wining about things. Our small store had to be closed for over a year now for our own protection along with others, but it didn’t stop us from moving ahead. We simply looked for other avenues to follow which are many, if you choose to look. And we didn’t take one cent of assistance. Anyways … you all take care … and have a great day. Make it a great day. You’re the only one that can do that. GW

Morning Chat May 2/2021

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy day here in Port Loring, Ontario. The temperature was a touch cool sitting at 5.2 C | 41.36 F getting out of bed. It won’t warm up much more than it is now. And, we can expect some more showers possibly today, tomorrow and the next day. Then I am thinking, things will start to look a wee bit better, weather wise that is. Highway 522 is quiet this morning, but it is early along with being Sunday. On another note I did get outside yesterday and mowed our grass around our house. Half way done, the new mower we bought two years ago stopped once again, so … I had to take it apart and see what was going wrong. I am thinking it is all to do with the jet being too small in the cheap plastic carbs they are putting on the engines today. So I will be looking into that. Maybe I can fix that problem making it a touch larger. It’s amazing that nowadays a lot of new things aren’t worth a damn, being made so cheaply. The trouble is, they are being made cheap, but they want a lot of money to buy them. Today being so cloudy, damp and cool, I think I will stay in and maybe work on a story or two. I did light the wood furnace this morning, which is perking away taking out the dampness in the house, along with my old bones. You can’t beat wood heat for arthritis, along with a few other issues relating to getting a bit older. With that I am off for a bowl of oatmeal, and will then see what the day has in store. Stay safe.
