Good Morning! It is a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. We did however have a touch of sunshine getting out of bed. We should see some more sunshine as the day progresses. But then we are back to more rain tomorrow. I have to admit, we had our share of rain this year. At least in our area. Which is a good thing, as it sure helps with the forest fires. We also had our first skiff of snow yesterday morning. A sign of what’s to come. Highway 522 is still busy these days with lots of Moose Hunters coming into our area. Not that I have seen any directly around our area. I have seen a few out a ways from town occasionally. On another note. I did get my garlic planted in spite of it being so wet. I will have to do some work cultivating it by hand come spring, as it was too wet for me to get my Rototiller onto the soil where I wanted to plant it. Not much you can do, it is one of those years. I also manged to get the last mowing out of the way, which makes me smile, as it was getting long. I do like to leave it a bit long, but not so that it will mat up under the snow. Yesterday I worked on a story for my columns, and now I am working on a podcast for next Friday. So that will keep me busy for a few days. I also got my friend Kerry at Booth’s Garage to install my snow tires and change the oil in our car. So other than a new tie rod being installed, we should be set for winter. Always something going on with these vehicles. With that I am off for my morning bowl of cereal and will then see what the day has in store, other than what I have planned. Take care and stay safe. What’s up? Oct. 20/21
Good Morning. We are seeing some sunshine this morning, with a few clouds. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 9.2 C | 48.56 F. It will rise as the day progresses. Later on in the day it is possible for some rain, but I think it will hold off till this evening and into tomorrow. But starting tomorrow the temperatures start to take a downward trend, but not much. For our area, things are looking pretty good for this time of year. Highway 522 is still busy these days with the hunters moving into our area. I have never seen so many old campers and trailers. But it seems that is all that matters when it comes to hunting. Any kind of roof over your head is just fine, LOL. Myself, I don’t hunt anymore. Reason being I don’t enjoy the cold. It seems the old body enjoys the indoors more every year. At least in the winter time. Yesterday I worked all day in my woodworking shop on a few projects, and today will do the same. Once that is finished and the grass dries out, I will mow it one last time, if for nothing else to gather the leaves and grass cuttings for my vegetable garden. I have to admit, I put a lot in it already this year. More than I ever did. So now that it is all tilled into the ground, it can rot all winter and come spring, we should have some fantastic soil for growing things. Easy fix for a garden that is in need of some nourishment. The only thing a person has to remember, is not to use walnut, or elm leaves and never put in pine needles. What they do is cause a blight that will take a toll on your tomatoes and things. With that I am off for my morning bowl of cereal and will then get to work. My lovely wife and I, might get in some front porch sittin’ too later on. Take care and stay safe. GW
What’s up? Oct. 19/2021
Good Morning! It’s a foggy cool morning here in Port Loring Ontario. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 2.7 C | 36.86 F. However, it will warm up as the day moves forward and become a really nice day, weather wise. We also had a pretty good frost last night, so anything left in the gardens would be hurt. That is, if you didn’t cover things. Which I did, as I still have a some kale that is growing nicely, and we enjoy it in our salads at night. It will be soon enough that we have to go back to buying fresh vegetables in the groceries stores. If you can call it fresh. Yesterday I worked in the old woodworking shop on a few things. I have a bunch of orders to complete, but I won’t get started on them for another few weeks, as I have other things to do first. Highway 522 is still quite busy these days with folks coming in from all over for hunting season. I don’t suspect it will be very good this year, being so warm. But you never know. If you’re in the right place at the right time, you will have venison on the table for winter. With that I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal with a few blueberries, and will then get to work. Take care and stay safe. GW
What’s Happening Oct. 17/2021
Good Morning! It’s a cool morning here, waking up in Port Loring, Ontario. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 6.6 C | 43.88 F. It will warm up some as the day progresses. The good part is, we should see lots of sunshine for the next week or so. With a shower thrown in for good measure. But at least it isn’t snow. I predict a cool but not cold winter with lots of snowy weather. So it might pay to purchase a new snow shovel if yours is getting worn a bit. LOL. Highway 522 is busy once again these days with lots of hunters moving into our area. The reason for that is deer season is upon us. On another note my lovely wife and I went to town yesterday to drop off some meals for our son, which my wife likes to do occasionally. And while there, we picked up some groceries that we were in need of. We had a good day, ate our lunch in our car, taking in the city life for what it’s worth, and then headed on home. There were lots of people out shopping. We were going to go into Walmart, but after seeing all the cars in the parking lots, we decided to wait. No use taking a chance with this virus that is still among us. We have our two shots of Pfizer, but just the same, we don’t take any unnecessary chances. Today, I will head on out to my old woodworking shop and work on a few things. I did manage to get my garlic planted the day before, so real happy about that. Now it has a bit of time before it freezes to get established. So … next year we should have some nice garlic for the table. Time will tell. With that I am off for a piece of toast and will then get to work. Take care and stay safe. GW
What’s Happening Oct. 14/2021
Good Morning! It’s another cloudy day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It isn’t that cold though, with the temperature getting out of bed sitting at 15.4 C | 59.72 F. And it will warm up some as the day progresses. But with that warm weather comes some rain. If we are lucky we might see some sunshine tomorrow. Highway 522 has slowed down a lot these days. With folks going back to work and cottages closing, another summer has come to an end. My wife and I can’t complain, though, as we did get a lot of things done around our home here. Our small store has now been closed for two years because of this virus. We aren’t exactly sure if we are going to open it next year, neither. It all depends on the price of lumber, as we would like to build another store here on our property. So we will have to see how things work out next spring. But in saying that, I will be making a bunch of things for the store just in case in my old woodworking shop this winter. In doing so it gets me out of the house, moving around. Yesterday I worked in my shop for most of the day getting things ready for woodworking mode. LOL Today I will do the same and maybe tomorrow if the sun comes out I will get to planting our garlic for next summer. This is the time to get it in the ground, as it needs a wee bit of time before the real cold temperatures hit to get rooted. We sure enjoy fresh garlic. My very good friend Archie gave us some this year to plant, so we will see how that turns out. With that, take care and stay safe. Things are starting to look pretty good out there these days,’ virus wise. Thanks to the scientists that made these vaccines for us humans. Without them, we would have seen a lot more deaths. GW
What’s Happening, Oct 12/2021
Good Morning. And a good morning it is. The sun is shinning, you can sit outside, no bloodsucking parasites, traffic on highway 522 is down to a minimum, and the temperature is just perfect. I would say it is about the nicest day of the year, right here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Later on in the day though, some clouds will roll in, and tomorrow things start to change with rain entering into the picture, and … the temperatures will start to drop. But we can’t complain, that’s for sure, or shouldn’t complain. On another note, I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving. My wife and I did, with our son and his fiancé dropping by after not seeing them for two years, because of this virus. We had a barbecue and sat outside for most of the day enjoying each other’s company. Couldn’t have been better. Yesterday, my wife and I put our boat and trailer to bed for winter, and in between all that, she made us a turkey dinner. I have to say, it sure was tasty. I am looking forward to leftovers tonight for supper. She is one fantastic cook, let me tell ya. Today I will close up the cottage and shower house, getting them ready for winter. There are also a few things that has to be brought in out of the cold. My wife is going to do some raking as the leaves are mostly down now. I hate to see them go this year as the colours are and were amazing. But then again, they always are, in our area. I also still have to plant our garlic for next summer, so I will get at that once my vegetable garden drys out a touch. With this sunshine it won’t take long. But then again, it is supposed to rain tomorrow. Hmm. With that I am off for a piece of toast and will then get to work. Best take advantage of this nice weather. Take care and stay safe. I see about 83 % of our population here in Canada is now vaccinated. So if we don’t get a new variant, I am thinking, things will be back to somewhat normal next year. Time will tell. Those that hasn’t been vaccinated, I feel for them, but as they keep on saying, it’s their body. Anyway, have a great day. GW

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy, wet morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. It’s wet, but the temperature is still pretty nice, sitting at 16.2 C | 61.16 F. I see a mostly cool weather in the west compared to mild weather in the East pretty well right through till a week before Halloween. Which is okay with my wife and I, as we still have some outside work that needs to be done. Like closing up our cottage and putting our boat to bed for the winter. I am thinking I will put the boat away tomorrow as we are supposed to have some sunshine. Just in time for Thanksgiving. Oh! Happy Thanksgiving. Highway 522 is a wee bit busy as with the nice weather people are taking advantage of it. Which is as it should be. Yesterday I moved some wood out of our bush by the house here to where it can dry throughout the winter. Most is pine I have piled up there, but I did have some White Birch from a tree I had to take down earlier in the year. It is nice burning and has a really nice scent. We like it a lot. So now it will be where it is dry, and we will have it for next year. The pine I don’t really care about, but I do burn it in my woodworking shop stove. The stove we have in there burns anything and everything, LOL. Today, my wife and I are going to be taking it a bit easy. We have had our son and his fiancé come for a visit, and they now have left. We had a real nice time, and it was sure nice to see them after not seeing them for two years or more because of this virus. Being that all of us are vaccinated with both doses, we decided to take a chance. Just in time for Thanksgiving. With that I am off for some blueberry pancakes my lovely wife is making me and will then see what the day has in store, other than what we have planned. A person can plan their day, but they can’t plan the results. Take care and stay safe. GW.
Morning Chat, Oct. 4/2021
Good Morning. It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The good part is, it isn’t that cold, and the nighttime temperatures have been hovering around 11.3 C | 52.34 F. Well above freezing. I suspect by the looks of things October won’t be as cold as it was last year. At least for the first half. This week will feel more like summer. And it will continue on into next week too. And along with all that, we should be seeing a lot of sunshine thrown in for good measure. Which will make things nice as our son that lives in Niagara is coming for a visit this week. We haven’t seen him in over two years. Now that we all have had our vaccines, we are hoping we will all be okay. We will still have to take precautions. We are looking forward to seeing him. Yesterday I took advantage of the pretty nice weather and cleaned out one of my sheds. Today I am going to cut my lumber I bought for making things in my woodworking shop this winter to size, so I can store it better. It is a touch too long for where we keep it. So that will be my day. On another note the leaves, plants and things are sure giving a nice show this year. We did lose a lot of the leaves with this rain we have been having. But there are still lats to see. I suspect by the end of next week, they will be pretty well all gone for another year. With that I am off for an English Muffin with a bit of jelly this morning with my lovely wife and will then get to work. Take care, stay safe and enjoy this nice weather that is upon us. GW
Morning Chat, Oct. 2/2021
Good morning! It’s a rainy day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The rain will continue off and on for most of the day, and it could continue on for most of the weekend. In saying that, the trees, plants and things do need it storing up for winter. It seems Nature looks after itself, in spite of us humans. Yesterday I brought our boat and trailer home as Kerry, my friend who owns Booth Service centre here in town, was installing new wheel bearings in the old girl. I pumped out the water as it was sitting outside for a week and with all that rain we did have a few days ago there was a lot of it. But it is cleaned up once again and put where it will dry, out of the weather. Once a nice day comes along, my lovely wife and I will cover it and put it away for winter. It’s getting about time. The good news is that we have most of all our things done up and ready for winter. I do still have to till up my vegetable garden, which I will do as soon as it dries up a touch. Highway 522 has slowed down a lot and things are starting to become quiet around town. Which is nice. My wife and I enjoy the quietness, along with taking in what Nature has to offer. Today, since it’s rainy, I will work on another podcast and do up a story for my columns in the newspapers and magazines I write for. I do have some lumber that I bought that I need to cut to size and store away for my woodworking projects I have lined up for winter. Again, I will get at it when the rain is over. Always something to do, but I enjoy doing these things, and I can do it when I want to do it. No one pushing me. With that I am off for my morning bowl of cereal and will then get to work. Take care and stay safe. GW
Morning Chat SEP. 29/2021
Good Morning. It’s a cool morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 4.7 C | 40.46 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward. We are also having some sunshine this morning, which is nice for a change. And it should remain with us for most of the day, with a few clouds thrown in for good measure. Highway 522 is quiet these days. The frost they said we would be having now, for the past two nights, hasn’t amounted to much. However, I did cover the plants that I have left in my vegetable gardens, just to be sure. Better to be safe than sorry. I also managed to clean out the weeds from my garden and dig my potatoes. We did pretty good this year. I would say we got around 30 Pounds or so. They sure are tasty, let me tell you. We had a few of the smaller ones for supper last night. With the little ones, we leave the skins on as they are nice and tender. Just boil them up and smother them in good butter with a touch of garlic. Pretty tasty. I also picked my cabbage. We don’t grow that many, around 4 or 5. My wife makes up a bunch of cabbage rolls for winter out of them, and puts them in the freezer. You know, I found that they taste even better after sitting in the freezer for a few weeks. Today I am going to write up a few more stories for the newspapers I write for, and kind of take it easy. Now that we have all our work caught up for the year, it feels good to sit back and enjoy the quiet time. With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee with my lovely wife and will then see what the day has in store, other … than what I have planned. You never know. Take care and stay safe. We are doing a lot better these days now that a lot of folks have been vaccinated. GW

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. It isn’t that cold though, with the temperature getting out of bed sitting at 13.1 C | 55.58 F. It will get a bit warmer as the day moves forward. And we should see some sunshine later on this morning and into this afternoon. Highway 522 is slow these days, which is a good thing. As I enjoy the quietness. In the summer months in our area it is becoming quite noisy with all the cars, trucks, motorcycles, you name it running up and down the highway. Used to be so quiet you could listen to the birds in our trees around our home, but not any more. Progress they say. Well … if that is what some consider progress, I don’t want it, or agree with them. And hey, I am entitled to my opinion, aren’t I? LOL. On another note, my lovely wife and I decided to head on into North Bay yesterday to pick up a few groceries and things for winter. We have always planned ahead my wife and I, just in case the weather gets bad, and we can’t get to town, or things happen, we are safe, fed and warm. I have done that all my life. There were a lot of people in the stores yesterday, but most kept their distance and wore their masks. Which is a good thing. We didn’t go into any stores we didn’t have to. After we picked up our things we backed the car up under a shade tree in a parking lot, if you could call it a shade tree and ate our lunch, that my lovely wife made for us before we left, along with a nice cup of coffee. What could be better than that? Not much in our eyes. We enjoy doing that, we chat, enjoy each other’s company and take in what the city life has to offer. Which truth be told other than the groceries and things we need … not much. We are happy to pick up our things we are in need of, but we are also happy to be on our way home. With that I am off for hot cross bun that my wife made the other day and will then see what the day has in store. Take care and stay safe. GW

Good Morning. It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, But we are seeing a wee bit of sunshine off and on, as we did yesterday. We could also see a few showers off and on throughout the day. But the good news is … after today things start to dry out, and we should be seeing a lot of sunshine, which will make it nice with all the leaves that is turning colours on the trees and shrubs. You know, the trees in our area put on a great show, but most forget to take in the colours that the grass, weeds and small shrubs are portraying. My lovely wife and I enjoy them as much as we do the trees. Highway 522 is slowing down more each day, which is fine with me. It’s a lot quieter around town, which is nice after a busy summer. We have most things all set for winter. I still have to dig my potatoes and work up my vegetable gardens. I will then close up the cottage and shower house for winter, as we don’t keep it open when it gets below freezing. After that, I will plant my garlic, and then I will put together a few more stories for my columns in the newspapers, and make a few more podcasts. I have a new podcast on the go called “What’s Happening,” which I will add to this blog explaining things later on today or tomorrow. With that I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal and will then see what the day has in store. My old woodworking shop does need some cleaning. Take care and stay safe. GW
Fishing Times: This morning my old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM and then again from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. I give it a 1-Star Rating out of 5 for catching a few. Not the greatest day for fishing. The reason for that is all the rain we have been having along with the temperature changes. But it should pick up in a day or so. Good Luck!
Morning Chat Sep 22/2021
Good Morning! It’s a cloudy cool day here in Port Loring, Ontario, We are also getting some rain. Along with that, the temperature has dropped substantially, with it sitting at 9.3 C | 48.74 F. In spite of how it looks, it is possible that we could see a glimpse of the sun later on. Yesterday we got some really heavy rain and there are warnings up for some more today saying:
Significant rainfall expected through Thursday morning.
Showers and isolated thunderstorms are expected to continue through Wednesday before moving out Thursday.
Rainfall amounts of 50 to 75 mm are expected by early Thursday morning, with a few localities possibly reaching up to 100 mm.
That’s a lot of rain if we get it. Yesterday I worked a wee bit in my woodworking shop and probably will be doing the same today since it is so wet outside. I have a lot of cleaning to do, getting things ready to go into woodworking mode this winter, LOL. We still have to clean out our vegetable gardens and then put my rototiller to work. I fixed it last winter and then again this spring, so I am hoping it works okay. Always something to play on a fellers mind. With that, I am off for some bacon and eggs this morning for a change. Every so often I get a craving for them. I am a firm believer that cravings are a sign of what the body needs, as long as we don’t go overboard with it. But then again, my old Dad used to say. “Fill your needs, George, not your wants.” Hmm … Take care, stay safe. GW
Fishing Times: Well, if you can get past the rain, the best times to be out there today with pole in hand will be between 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM, and then again from 6:20 PM – 8:00 PM. I give it a 4-star rating out of 5 for catching a few. But I don’t think it would be wise to be out there today. But if you do, good luck!
Morning Chat Sep 21/2021
Good Morning. So the election is over. Am I upset? LOL. Well, I will say this. I am upset to the extent that this election didn’t accomplish one thing. The Liberals are no further ahead than they were before the election. I guess I should say, that it did accomplish one thing. As it did take millions of dollars out of the working man’s pockets. Hard-earned money, that could have gone elsewhere to help get this country back on their feet. Kind of makes me sick to even look at their smug faces, knowing what they did, do and are going to do. But there isn’t much we can do about it, other than carry on, and live one’s life to the fullest in spite of these idiots. That’s my feelings on the subject. Moving along, the weather has sure changed from yesterday. It is cloudy, windy, and we could be in for some heavy rain for the next few days, as the seasons change. All this … will bring in some cooler weather. Makes me happy I brought in my firewood when I did. Once again working with nature as I have always done has paid off. Highway 522 has slowed down once again with a lot of campers leaving our area and heading back to the big cities. I am sure glad we live where we do, open spaces, fresh air and room to move. At least for now, as folks are moving into our area a lot these days. Is it a good thing? Well, my option on that subject I will keep to myself. But I think some know what that opinion is. LOL. At least those that know me. On another note, my lovely wife and I decided to go fishing yesterday, as it was going to be the best day of the year for catching a few, along with the weather being nice and warm with hardly no wind to speak of. It started off well. I got the bait from Reg here in town, hooked up the boat, my wife made us a coffee and lunch, and we were off. Put the boat in the water, went to start it, nothing, motor wouldn’t turn over. I then thought the battery must not be up to par, but I did charge it before I left. So decided to take it out and taking it home to put it on the charger once again, leaving the wife to watch things. I got home checked it out, and it was up to 90%, so the battery was good. Took it back, tried it again, nothing. So nothing else to do but load the boat back on the trailer and go home and get it fixed. That should have been it, but nope it wasn’t. On the way home, I looked out the rearview mirror and seen smoke. Stopped the car and found the wheel bearing on the right side of the trailer was shot. So my wife and I pushed the tire back in place away from the fender which it was rubbing on, causing the smoke, and drove very slow. Luckily, we managed to get it to my friend Kerry’s garage. There it sets. So … not a good day for us yesterday, but at least we manage to get the boat out of the water and then get it to where it can be fixed. Today I am going to clean up my shop once again, and then we will see what else develops. You just never know. Take care and be safe. GW
Fishing Times: Today my old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there will be from 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM and then again from 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. Again it will be a fantastic day for fishing, that is if you can get by with the rain and wind. So it’s a great day for fishing, but not a great day weather wise. I give it a 5-Star Rating out of 5 for catching a few. And if you do get out, make sure you dress accordingly. And don’t forget, things get a might slippery when it rains. Especially around the boat docks and getting in and out of the boat. But you all know that, right? Good Luck.

Good Morning! It looks like we are going to be having another really nice day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It was a bit cool getting out of bed with the temperature sitting at 8.9 C | 48.02 F. It will warm up once again as the day moves forward. It should also be noted that the leaves have been changing colours daily, and I would say by the end of next week they will be giving a really nice show. Some say they don’t change until the frost hits them. That is true in part, but in reality they would change and are changing without frost. The trees know when it is time, more so than us humans. We think we know everything there is to know about nature, but really we only know what we see, not what goes on under our feet. There is a whole new world down there. Highway 522 is still busy these days, but it has slowed down some. The insects have all but left us for another year. Actually, they weren’t all that bad this year compared to other years. There wasn’t a day that my wife and I couldn’t sit outside. I hope it is the same for next year. Yesterday I didn’t do much outside, I took it a bit easy and wrote up a couple stories for my Newspaper Columns and Magazines that I have been writing for over twenty-five years now. On another note, I would like to take a minute and thank all those that have called and emailed me letting me know how much they enjoy my Podcasts. I added one new one yesterday and will now continue to do so every Friday morning until next spring. With that, I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal and will then head on out to my old woodworking shop. I have a few things that need doing. Take care and stay safe. GW
Fishing Times: Today my old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there with your line in the water will be between 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM, and then again 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM. It will be a great day for catching a few. I give it a 5-Star Rating out of 5 for catching a few. Good Luck!
MORNING Chat, Sep. 18
GOOD Morning. Once again, it looks like we are going to have a nice day here in Port Loring, Ontario. The sun is shinning without hardly any wind at all. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 11.3 C | 52.34 F. It will warm up nicely as the day moves forward. I suspect the sunshine will remain with us for most of the day. And into tomorrow for that matter. Highway 522 was very busy yesterday with folks moving around. Myself, I worked away on a mower that is giving me some problems and so far haven’t figured things out. I ordered a new part online, so we will see how that goes in a week or so when it comes in. Always something. My wife was also busy working on orders for her paintings and signs, along with all the other things she does around and in the house. She is a hardworking woman for sure. But that is how we got to where we are today. Today, I will take things a bit easy. I have been feeling a bit tired for the past two days. I think some front porch sittin’ is in order. With that I am off for some pancakes for breakfast that my lovely wife is making me and will then see what the day has in store, other than what I have planned. Oh, and don’t forget to catch my new podcast that will be live at 9:00 AM this morning. Take care and stay safe. GW
Fishing Times: Today my old weather stick is saying that the best times to be out there fishing will be between 10:00 AM and 12:30 PM and then again from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM. It should be a pretty good day for catching a few. I give it a 4-Star Rating out of 5 for catching a few. Good Luck!

Good Morning. It’s a really nice looking day here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun is showing off and the temperature is actually quite nice, sitting at 15.3 C | 59.54 F. It will warm up a lot as the day moves forward. Highway 522 has gotten busy with a few hunters moving into the area along with a new batch of tourists. This is the time for families without children, or so it seems. It is a nice time of year. Yesterday, my wife and I got our mowing out of the way. Took us a few hours, but it is worth it when all said and done. Now we can do some front porch sittin; and take in what nature all around us has to offer. Today I am going to work on one of my mowers, as once again it is in need of some repairs. I have to say, they sure don’t last as long as they used to. My old ones lasted twenty years or more with just a few minor repairs, these today are shot after two years or less. Most are just junk. At any rate, not much we can do, as that is what our country has become. We are a leader in buying ……. With that I am off for my morning bowl of cereal with my lovely wife and will then see what I can do about fixing a few things. It would be nice if we had one day without something breaking down, LOL Take care and stay safe, the numbers of infections are rising once again here in Ontario. GW
Fishing Times: Today my old weather stick is saying that the best time to be out there will be between 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM and then again from 5:30 PM – 7:30 PM. I give it a 3-Star rating out of 5 for catching a few. Good Luck!

Good Morning! Starting things off, it is sunny here in Port Loring, Ontario this morning. It is a touch cool, with the temperature getting out of bed sitting at9.3 C | 48.74 F. It will warm up nicely as the day moves forward. I would say we are going to have almost perfect weather for the next 5 or 6 days. So if you’re anything like I am, enjoying the outdoors, this is the time to do it. I still have to clean, our vegetable gardens and dig our potatoes, so I can till it up for the winter. But there is still lots of time for that. Once that is all done up, I will get to planing our garlic for next year. It should be nice this year, as I have my old heavy Rotavator fixed up, ready to go. I don’t use it that often, but when I need it, it does a great job. Yesterday, I finished up bringing in our wood for winter. So that is another thing off my mind. I surprised myself and did it in one and a half days instead of three this year. I sure enjoy seeing it piled nicely in the basement. I have always stated that if you have lots of food, and you are warm, you’re all set for what ever comes your way. That is one thing that I have always done throughout my life. No one ever went hungry or got cold in our family. We might have done without a few other things, but never from hunger or being cold. Today is mowing day for my wife and I and I will get at that this afternoon as I have some things lined up for this morning. Which will work out nicely as the grass is really wet with the dew we had last night. On another note, I will be starting up my PodCasts next week, and will add a new one every Saturday Morning. I eased off through the summer months as my wife and I had a lot of things on the go. Now that things are easing off a bit, I will get back to it. I have had so many Emails wanting to know if and when I will start them up again. So now you know, LOL. Thanks for being so patient. With that I am off once again for my morning bowl of oatmeal and will then get to work. Take care and stay safe. The number of infections has dropped a bit yesterday, so let’s hope that is the trend for now on. Wouldn’t that be nice. And it will if we all do what we are supposed to be doing, like wearing our mask, keeping our distance and enjoying your home instead of going out to the bars and places like that, LOL. GW

Good Morning. It’s a nice looking day here in Port Loring, Ontario. Especially with the sunshine. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 10.9 C | 51.62 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward. And by the looks of things we should be having some sunshine now for the next week or so. The temperatures will also remain quite nice. Highway 522 was fairly busy yesterday, mostly with trucks working in our area. But there were a lot of cars, trucks and campers too. Yesterday I worked away bringing in our firewood for winter. I surprised myself and got most of it all in. I will easily finish it this morning, that is … if my old body holds up, LOL. So far, so good. Amazing really with all the work that my lovely wife and I have done this summer. It’s hard to believe I am able to do what I am doing being the age I am. I guess it all boils down with what is in one’s mind and eating healthy. Let’s hope it keeps up the good work. This morning, I started the oil furnace for the first time. Mainly to see if it still works, and to take out the dampness from the house. With that humid weather we had from them storms coming up from the south, the old house was pretty damp. It seems to be working good so far. The tornado watch we had yesterday didn’t amount to anything in our area. Which is a good thing, as we sure don’t need them. On another note, my vegetable gardens are about had it for this year. My wife has been steadily putting things into the freezer for later use in between her painting orders and other things. I have to say, we had a very good crop of peppers this year. We also had a good crop of potatoes, which will sure be nice this winter. I found last year the potatoes in the stores weren’t very good. Most of every bag we bought we had to throw away. Actually, it was that way for a good number of items. The thing is we paid good money for them and to throw them away … well let’s just say it isn’t good. That was the reason I decided to grow my own this year. I would think we will have around three bushels or so. I haven’t dug them yet, as I like to leave them in the ground as long as I can. That way, they will last for most of the winter in our basement. The thing is you have to keep them where it is dark leaving some dirt on them, in the open, where the air can get around them, and it should be cool where you store them. With that bit of information under your hat, I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal with my lovely wife, and then I will get to work. I can’t wait to get outside and breath in some of our northern air. Take care and stay safe. So far here in Ontario we are doing pretty good with this virus that is among us. Let’s hope we keep it up. I think the reason is that we live in a country that the people live quite a way apart. In other countries, they are packed in like sardines. I hope we never become like them!!! Anyway take care. GW
