Pass The Biscuits Please

My sister Barb sent my wife and I this article and I have to say it is right on the money. Thanks Sis.  Figured I would pass it along as it just might get some to do some thinkin’.    Used to happen to me and Reg back on the farm many years ago, when Laura the lady of the house set up the supper table.

When I was a kid, my mom liked to make breakfast food for dinner every now and then.  And I remember one night in particular when she had made breakfast after a long, hard day at work.  On that evening so long ago, my mom placed a plate of eggs, sausage, and extremely burned biscuits in front of my dad.  I remember waiting to see if anyone noticed!  Yet all my dad did was reach for his Biscuit, smile at my mom and ask me how my day was at school. I don’t remember what I told him that night; but I do remember hearing my mom apologize to my dad for burning the biscuits.  And I’ll never forget what he said:  “Honey, I love burned biscuits.”
Later that night, I went to kiss Daddy good night and I asked him if he really liked his biscuits burned.  He wrapped me in his arms and said, “Your momma put in a long hard day at work today and she’s real tired. And besides… a burnt biscuit never hurt anyone!”
You know, life is full of imperfect things… and imperfect people. I’m not the best at hardly anything, and I forget birthdays and anniversaries just like everyone else.  What I’ve learned over the years is that learning to accept each others faults and choosing to celebrate each others’ differences, is one of the most important keys to creating a healthy, growing, and lasting relationship..

So…please pass me a biscuit. And yes, the burned one will do just
fine!

Fishing Buddy Wanted For 2011??????

You know with a few health problems on ones mind it sort of gets a fellows mind to thinking.  Thinking of what lies ahead and what one should or would like to be doing in life.  For myself I bought a good used cedar strip boat last spring, fixed it up and gotta’ tell ya it looks like brand new. Had folks come for miles around just to look at it.  Not that it was worthy of folks making the trip but it is amazing how many did stop by to see the old girl.  Old Girl?  Yep named it Jennie as years ago I had a horse named Jennie and my wife figured it was just the name for my boat. So one day last summer she painted it on both sides.  Looks good too.   Now when ever I look at the boat fond memories are brought to light instantly.    But that is not what I am really trying to portrait here this morning, what I want to say or should, or ask, is if there happens to be a feller that loves to fish, would like to go out once or twice a week and has time to sit back and enjoy life, well……….let me know.   I guess you could say this article is asking for a good old fishing buddy.  I told my wife I would make a deal with who ever decided to take on such a task that they bring the bait and I will supply the boat, motor and fuel.  I don’t think one could find a better deal anywhere, don’t ya think?    Any ways if you feel you would like to get away from all your worries and bring some nature into your life, give me a call or send me an Email so we can discuss this new adventure we are about to take on in life.  I know a lot of good fishing holes just waiting to be had but in saying that I am still open for more.   1 705 757 1640 or [email protected]     I live in Port Loring Ontario surrounded by lakes and nature at its best, about an hour away from North Bay or surrounding towns.   Why am I doing this?  Well lets just say I am in the need of a good friend that likes the things I like, has a few good stories to share and loves fishing.  My wife is in agreement so, hey, lets go fishing.

Warm Day Here In Port Loring

Well we got rid of  a bit of ice along my roof edge.   But thinkin’ we will be needing another day or so of warm weather to finish things.  But………they say no, so might have to live with what we got rid of thus far, until spring arrives.  I also am predicting an early spring for us up her in the north. Hate going out on a limb saying that, but if I don’t I will regret I didn’t in the coming days.   Another good thing with this warm weather my wood furnace has been given a bit of a reprieve, which makes me happy as we can ease up on the wood burning.  Now don’t get me wrong we have more cold weather in the future heading our way starting tomorrow, but I am thinking it won’t last.   So enjoy your snowmobile and ice fishing while you can, as old Mother Nature has plans for us know it all humans in the coming weeks.  Ok with me too, as I am looking forward to gettin’ my new cedar strip boat in the water come the 24th of May.  Well maybe not brand new, but new to me after restoring it last summer.  Will write another post on that in the coming days.  Have a good one.

This Is The Grapefruit Month

Well Folks.  This is the best time of year to get them juicy tasty grapefruit or oranges.  For years my wife and I went to Florida to my Dads cottage and once a week a trip would be in order to  head on out to visit the farmers.  There we would chat about things, being a farmer myself and after a visit bring with us a couple baskets of fresh tree picked grapefruit and some oranges. Once home every morning they would be cut open and put in front of us at the breakfast table.  I gotta’ tell ya, if you haven’t had tree picked fresh grapefruit you are sure missing out on one of life’s most tastiest fruits.  Not only do they taste good but they are good for ya.  So good that every one this time of year should be eating them daily for breakfast for at least two months.  I know some say, oh ya sure, how can we afford them.  I say well, even at a dollar apiece which is a touch pricey compared to if you lived in Florida, you still are getting more for your money if you think health wise.  Also don’t forget them Florida Oranges either, as this time of year they are just loaded with juice and so……………….sweet too.  I have one for a treat after supper instead of candy, or them things that is not so good for ya.  There you go, so the next time out shopping pick up a couple dozen and get into eating what one should be eating at this time of the year.  Your body will love you for it and so will your taste buds.  My Opinion Only

Wanted….. Family Doctor For Wife & I

You know for most my life I have had an old doctor of prestige looking after me.  Three to be exact, until the end of their days, I have to say I sure miss them. Two even looked after me after they retired from their home.   Many of my stories through my columns relate back to some of our talks and events that took place.  Great stuff for sure.  Today, especially up here in the North it is really hard to find a doctor that you can go in and see on a regular basis in need.  To bad too, as with all the money in Canada we don’t have enough doctors to go around. In my mind there is no excuse for it.    At any rate now that I am older things happen in life and one could do with having a good physician, one that will listen and given time, become friends.   I gotta’ tell you I sure miss them old feller’s that looked after me.  So………..if there is a family doctor out there, Male or Female, that would like another patient, one that likes to chat a bit now and then, I would like to hear from you.   You can reach me at  [email protected] Or  call George  1-705-757-1640 Look Forward To Hearing From You.  I live in Port Loring Ontario, but can travel to North Bay, or surrounding areas, not a problem there.

Another Warm Up Heading Toward Port Loring

Well a nice warm up will be heading our way for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Might even get up to around 50 which is ok by me, as I got a lot of ice build up on the edge of my roof.  Only thing is we are going to probably get some rain with it too, as it is only common sense that with warmer temperatures and lots of snow on the ground, both put together causes rain.  But, hey, maybe you can all drag out your barbecues for a day or so and cook up a burger or two.  After Friday though back to some cooler weather, but nothing drastic.  Have a great day.

Cancer From Fluoride ?????

Something To Think About When Buying Your Toothpaste.

February 11, 2011

Danger Of Bone Cancer From Fluoride In Toothpaste, Drinking Water

Concerns on fluoride as a major avoidable cause of bone cancer are urgently validated by its unrecognized 20 percent increased incidence in children under the age of 15 over the last three decades. These concerns are all the more critical as 200 million citizens of all ages are still drinking fluoridated water. Dr. Samuel S. Epstein is Professor emeritus of Environmental and Occupational Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago School of Public Health, and Chairman of the international Cancer Prevention Coalition.

Our Metric System Was Just A Ploy To Change The Way We Think

Well my prediction of colder weather was right on.  Down to minus 20 this morning old scale not metric.  Now that is cold.   Although my sister Barb out west makes our temperatures look like summer.  Think the time to go for a visit in that country is mid July.  LOL One of these days will do just that too.  Thing is, this metric system has folks minds messed up.  For example they say it is 0 degrees outside.  That sure sounds cold but in reality it is 32 degrees, which is not bad actually and if a sunny day the temperatures in the sun would be around 40.  Same as gas for your car, it says on the sign out front of the service stations, 1.12 cents a litre.  What it should say and what it really is, is $4.48 cents a gallon.   Thing is bringing this metric in to our society was done for a reason.  The reason being that it changed what people thought and think.  They knew the price of things were going to go up and this was one way of getting around it.  Temperature is the same, folks look out the window and see five below 0. Darn I am not going out in that, so they sit in the house putting on the beef.  This is what our Powers To Be want to happen. They want us to become less self efficient and rely on modern medicine and them more and more every day, and it’s working.  More folks are getting sick, more are gaining weight, to many to name.  Not a good things folks, so don’t be fooled about this metric thing, there is more there than meets the eye let me tell ya.  Oh and don’t forget the trillions of dollars that it cost to change us over to metric.  Something like our two languages, French and English, won’t get into that, well maybe one day.  My opinion only.

Hydro Bills Here In Ontario

Hmm got my Hydro bill today and as usual was up a touch.    So reading further seen they are giving us a ten percent discount for the next five years.  Now in saying that in one breath, a bit further down the page they say they will be raising the delivery cost of which works out to, yes you guessed it 10% so……………………in other words you don’t save one cent.  Oh and also going to back date it and charge us for a few months previous.     I gotta’ tell you, for what we pay in hydro here in this province folks should be in an uproar, but are they?  Na…… they just sit back and say nothing.  Another thing is that the Powers That Be want to build more nuclear reactors here in Ontario to produce more hydro.  Now think about this for a moment.  Last New years the Dalton gang as I like to call them, had to give away and in some cases pay Quebec and the US to take our hydro  as they don’t have the facilities to store it.  Now in my mind what they should be doing is giving us that live here in Ontario a price reduction of hydro, oh say of around 50%.  That would make more sense to me and also, look at the  new business’s that would move into our province.  Will this happen?  Of course not.    Also think about this.  They have more hydro now than they need and still want to build these new nuclear plants.  Crazy thinking in my mind, along with bring on more danger to our country as nuclear isn’t a nice thing.    Also our new wind power generating stations will be coming on line soon with more power.   What are they going to do with that.  Sell it to the US, give it to Quebec for free?  Hard to tell, but let me tell you this, I am sure tired of being taken to the cleaners and you should be too.   My Opinion Only.

Comparing Gas Prices To Other Things

You know when one thinks of the price of gas one forgets the price of other things.  Take a look at these comparison prices.

Think a gallon of gas is expensive?
This makes one think, and also puts things in perspective.

Diet Snapple 16 oz $1.29 … $10.32 per gallon

Lipton Ice Tea 16 oz $1.19 ……….$9.52 per gallon

Gatorade 20 oz $1.59 ….. $10.17 per gallon

Ocean Spray 16 oz $1.25 ……… $10..00 per gallon

Brake Fluid 12 oz $3.15 …… $33.60 per gallon

Vick’s Nyquil 6 oz $8.35 … $178.13 per gallon

Pepto Bismol 4 oz $3.85 .. $123.20 per gallon

Whiteout 7 oz $1.39 ……. . $25.42 per gallon

Scope 1.5 oz $0.99 …..$84.48 per gallon

And this is the REAL KICKER…
Evian water 9 oz $1.49..$21.19 per gallon! $21.19 for WATER and the buyers don’t even know the source
(Evian spelled backwards is Naive.)

Colder Weather For Port Loring George’s Prediction

Well we had a few days of warmer weather now we will have about four days of colder weather.  Tonight and tomorrow and maybe the next day the temperatures will go down to below 0 old scale. Then look for a warm up a bit.  Ok with me as I don’t have to stoke the old wood furnace as much when it warms up some. But for the next few days, up through the night is going to be called for.  Have  a great day.

We Did It, CRTC Decision Will Be Reversed !!!!!!

A controversial CRTC decision that effectively imposed usage-based Internet billing on small service providers will be reversed. Well folks let me tell ya, for once we as a whole have pulled off a great victory for the little guy.  I have to say I am proud of each and every one of you, who took the time to sigh petitions and help spreading the word.  Makes my day and gives me a little more faith in human nature.  You did it folks.  See what happens when 357,000 people pull together. Well maybe I should say, lets just wait a wee bit longer to make sure. Looks good though.

Bell Shareholder Versus Teksavvy Gotta’ Watch This

Alright here is a link that will take you to a news video.  What you have to do to save time, is at the bottom of the video screen, slide the bar across to where it says 35 minutes. Watch the rest from there.  There is  a Bell shareholder on there that makes you angry but keep watching, it gets better when Teksavvy comes on there in defence of us little guys.  A definite watch. make sure you do.

Teksavvy For Your Internet Provider, Great Folks To Deal With Too.

Well I have been working around the clock on this Internet Capping thing and there might be a light at the end of the tunnel.  Have to wait and see but there just might be.  I also would like to let the folks know of the North and even right here in Port Loring that there is alternatives than using,  Bell and Cable for your Internet Provider. Here is my most favourite, they are called Teksavvy.  Here  is the link if your interested in changing over.  http://teksavvy.com/en/default.asp If you do change over you will be glad you did….. I guarantee it.  My Opinion Only.  Hmm……..maybe not this time, as right now there is over 200,000 and more on my side and more joining the cause every day.  Kind of gives me a good feeling inside knowing that folks are standing up for themselves for a  change.
