Wine Rack

Hi folks. Here is a wine rack I just finished. I made two of these last year for a couple folks. It turned out nice and holds 99 bottles of wine. A nice weekend project. The neat part is, if need be, I can make it larger or smaller. I did make one two years ago that held over 400 bottles.

It’s designed, so the wine bottle lies flat, and slopes slightly downwards, which in turn keeps the corks for drying out.

Another happy customer, and by the looks of the wine that they have in it already … I am sure they will be happy. Ha Ha.

What’s Happening on January 30/2022

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. We didn’t have any more snow overnight. Which is fine with me. Also, the cold that we were having has left us, and I suspect it will remain that way now for the remainder of the winter. Oh, we will get a cold night from time to time, but the real cold I think is behind us. But hey, you never know what Mother Nature has in store. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at -17.6 C | 0.32 F. It will warm up as the day progresses, and we could see a wee bit of snow throughout the day.

On another note, I noticed the snowmobiles are out and about with the trails being open. Nice to see folks out enjoying life for a change. Yesterday, my lovely wife and I went to town to pick up our groceries that we ordered online. With so many being sick these days, we figured it’s best to stay out of all the stores we can. Least for now.

We did notice that there wasn’t as many people going into the stores while we were there, but there were a lot of cars in the parking lots. While there, we visited our son in the parking lot at his apartment, chatted a bit and dropped off a few things his Mother made for him. After that, we found a nice spot where we could watch what the other half is doing and ate our lunch. After that, we headed on home, enjoying a coffee along with the scenery. There is always lots to see along the way, and we enjoy it a lot. We also enjoy getting out of the house from time to time so that we can breathe some different air.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal and will then settle in working on a story or two I have in mind.

Oh, and we had 15 Doves at our bird feeder having breakfast this morning. They are our favourite birds along with the crows. Fun to watch them. Take care and stay safe.

What’s Happening on January 29/2022

Good Morning! It’s a darn cold morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. So cold, the icicles have packed up and moved out of town. Can’t say I blame them, neither. Ha Ha. However, the sun is shinning, which I suppose is something to be desired. Highway 522 is snow and ice covered from one end to the other, so care will have to be taken. But other than the cold, travelling should be pretty good if you take it easy.

Being so cold, I had to get up a few times through the night to put a bit of extra wood in our wood furnace. While up, I took some temperature readings, which went something like this.

-29.9 C | -21.82 F 12:28 AM
-31.7 C | -25.06 F 2:14 AM
-34 C | -29.2 F 5:40 AM
-34.5 C | -30.1 F 6:21 AM
-34.8 C | -30.64 F 8:16 AM

So as you can see, it got cold and stayed cold all night long, and it’s still darn cold out there now. It will warm up a bit as the day moves forward. Tonight shouldn’t be as cold, but it will be cold enough.

The oil and gas companies are loving this weather. It never ceases to amaze me, that we here in Canada have more natural resource’s, like oil, gas and things, and we here in Canada pay the most money for it. You would think they would give us a break from all these high prices. If they did that, this country would move ahead leaps and bounds. But if they did that, they wouldn’t be able to collect trillions of dollars in tax money, so they can give it away. And they aren’t giving the money away to the working man, or woman that are paying all these taxes, that’s for damn sure.

Have a great day, stay safe and dress warm, if out and about. GW

What’s happening On January 28/2022

Good Morning! It’s another cold morning here in Port Loring Ontario. However, the sun is shinning, which makes it look nice. Yesterday and through the night we had another 8-10 inches of snow. More in drifts. Actually, I have one drift in front of our house that is about three feet deep. Highway 522 is snow and ice covered, but the snowplow has been through. So being a sunny day, and if you have snow tires on, and your car will start … you’re good to go. Ha Ha.

Yesterday I worked most of the day here on some stories and things. Which kept me busy. Today, my lovely wife and I will be busy all morning cleaning out the driveway along with our decks. It shouldn’t be too bad, as the snow we had is on the lite side.

With that, I am off for a bowl of oatmeal and a piece of toast. Take care and stay safe. Seems every day more are dying from this virus. Yesterday it was over 70. If this keeps up, 2100 will be dying every month in Ontario alone.

What’s Happening on January 27/2022

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. We didn’t have any snow overnight, but we are getting some now. It is also quite windy out, causing a lot of drifting. I suspect we will have to clean our driveway tomorrow if this keeps up. The snow will continuer for most of the day and into tonight. Highway 522 is snow covered along with a lot of icy sections throughout. I kind of think it would be a good day to stay home. And on top of all that, the temperature tonight will drop to -21F/-30C. So … we are going to have a mixed bag of weather today.

On another note, I didn’t do all that much yesterday, being so cold outside. Kind of took it easy. But today I will be working away here on my Computer, on a few projects I have on the go. Which should keep me busy for most of the day. When it gets cold, like it has been, I don’t feel much like going outside or to my woodworking shop for that matter. When things warms up a touch, I will maybe get to working on some woodworking projects we have in mind. So with that. I am off for a bagel this morning and will then see what the day has in store … other than what I have planned.

Take Care and Stay Safe. The virus isn’t getting much better here in Ontario. There are a lot of sick people out there at the moment. What you see, hear or read, is only a half of what is really taking place, as there is no way that they can keep track of things now. It’s gotten way out of hand. And to top that, we now have a new variant BA.2 heading our way. Boy, I am full of good news this morning. But it is in what you make it. GW

Update: Ontario reported 70 more COVID-19 deaths today!

What’s Happening on January 26/2022

Good Morning. It’s a very cold morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Truth be told, it’s the coldest we have had it so far this winter.

Being that I had to get up through the night, I took a few readings of what the temperatures were.

-29.4 C | -20.92 F 12:30 AM
-32.4 C | -26.32 F 3:08 AM
-33.8 C | -28.84 F 5:06 AM
-34.8 C | -30.64 F 7:12 AM

And right at the moment at 8:52 AM it is sitting at -34 C | -29.2 F. I hope you had your car plugged in, or made sure your antifreeze was up to snuff. It will warm up a touch as the day moves forward. But it will take a while. Highway 522 is snow and ice covered, so care will have to be taken if out and about. We didn’t have any more snow overnight, but we could see another inch or two, starting tomorrow sometime, and into tomorrow night. Winter is here in Port Loring.

On another note, being so cold, my lovely wife and I did have to get up more often through the night to feed our wood furnace. But for most parts, one of us usually wakes up anyway. If I get up, I put the wood in … if she gets up, she does the same. Seems after all these years we have it down pat. Ha Ha.

Yesterday we worked all morning clearing snow from our driveway, decks, along with helping our neighbour. One thing is for certain … there is no need for going for walks, or buying exercise equipment to stay fit these days. Ha Ha.

So with that bit of information under your hat, I am off for some bacon and eggs this morning that my lovely wife is making me. Just felt like something different. Take care, stay fit and be safe. More people are dying every day, because of this virus. Some days we are over the 60 mark. And that is just here in Ontario. Amazes me that some still say that this virus is all a conspiracy, along with other ridiculous accusations. But it’s par for the course these days. Will it get better? Not likely. GW

What’s Happening on January 25/2022

Good Morning! It’s a cold morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The temperature waking up was sitting at -21.6 C | -6.88 F. It will warm up a wee bit but not much. However, the sun is shinning, which, if nothing else, makes it look nice outside. Highway 522 is snow and ice covered once again this morning. So care will be needed if out and about. We did have another 8 inches of snow yesterday. Which means I know what my lovely wife and I will be doing this morning. The good news is it isn’t heavy snow, so it shouldn’t be too bad to move around. Yesterday I worked away here in my computer on a few things, making it easier to move around. I also kept the Woodworking shop going, which kept me busy feeding it. Ha Ha. Other than that, not much else happening in and around our area. I still haven’t seen that many snowmobiles out and about. Maybe February will bring them out. With that, I am off for a bowl of oatmeal this morning and will then get to moving some snow. Take care and stay safe. GW

Looking for that special Flute

Here are a couple pictures that actually turned out quite nice. My wife took them while we were foraging for that special piece of wood, that I wanted, to make a special one of a kind, Walking Stick Flute.

Sometimes I walk for miles with no luck. Then the next time out, I find it within minutes. Go Figure. Ha Ha.

I did find a piece and the Flute Turned out Fantastic. The customer was very happy. And … that’s all that matters.

More Wooden flutes in the works

Here are a few pictures of some Flutes I am working on in the “Old Craftsman’s” Woodworking Shop. Still lots of work yet to be done. We call them FLUTURE FLUTES. The reason for that is, I make and tune them a lot different from most flute makers. You could call them the Flute of the Future. Which they are. Anyway, these pictures will give you an idea of what is involved. A lot of tedious work, but the end results makes it all worthwhile.

I don’t use any store bought parts, other than some select pieces of wood for the inlays. They are all my own design, which came from years of making them. Every one is unique in their own way.

Thought I would share.

New Cabinet with Electric fireplace

We looked around for a year or so and couldn’t find a good electric Fireplace. At least one that looks like real wood burning. Finally, we found one.

I then decided to take it one step further and build a custom cabinet, so we could insert the new Electric Fireplace into. Turned out nice, and thought I would share a few pictures. From start to finish. We are enjoying it.

What’s Happening on January 24/2022

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring Ontario. And I suspect it will remain that way for most of the day. It isn’t that cold, though, as the temperature getting out of bed was sitting at -15.3 C | 4.46 F. Great day for the snowmobiles. Truth be told I haven’t seen all that many this year, if any it’s locals. I suspect that this virus is taking its toll on folks, keeping some at home, not feeling so good. A lot of people I know in Southern Ontario have come down with the new variant Omicron. They all had the vaccine, which helped them fend it off. Some said they didn’t even know they had it. So goes to prove the vaccines do work. Highway 522 is snow covered with icy sections throughout once again, but that is a norm for our area this time of year. With all the cold and snow we have been having in the past month, it is beginning to look a lot more like Port Loring. As the old saying goes; If anyone gets snow, it will be Port Loring. Yesterday we did get our driveway cleaned out, and our decks cleaned off from the snow we had the day before yesterday. Along with helping our neighbour next door. Took us most of the morning. The snow blower that my sons bought me a few years ago works slick and makes things a lot easier. The good part of it was that the snow was light, so it was easy to move. Today we will take it easy, and relax a bit. My wife is busy working on some painting orders, and I might work on another podcast. I will see how I feel after I have had my breakfast. With that, take care, and stay safe.

Handing out the working man’s money

The former Ukrainian president says war can still be avoided, but says Canada needs to give them more aid. MONEY, Weapons and so on. Who is this guy?

Oh! This just on January 24/2022: Ukraine says thanks for the cash, but they’d prefer guns.

Give certain countries an inch, they take a mile. Heck, we just gave them 150 Million or so. Oh sorry, loaned them 150 million or so. That’s a knee-slapper in itself.

Giving any country money isn’t the answer in my eyes. I say. Support them with advice, food and clothing if needed and let things run its course. That is what some countries are doing. All this money we are handing out to other countries, we could be putting to good use right here in Canada. How about helping the homeless, housing, truckers, or our seniors. I know I sure could sure use a raise. And I would put it to good use right here in Canada. Another would be making our own vaccines right here at home.

You know, many years ago my old Dad told me. That a country, I won’t mention the name, asked for help. Knowing that, Canada started giving them money. We soon found out that wasn’t the answer. Then we decided to buy them equipment, so they could make their country better themselves. That didn’t work either, because as soon as we showed them how to operate the machinery … and left. They just went back to the way they were, and the equipment rusted away, not being used. Goes to prove, that some countries you can’t help.

We need to learn that interfering in their lifestyle, or trying to convert them, which is what some have been doing for years now, isn’t the thing to be doing. Just make’s me shake my head, seeing all the waste. But … then again, that’s what Canada is all about, always has been. I should say … that is what our Governments here in Canada are all about. I didn’t mean the working man.

Oh … alright, there are some Government officials I am sure that are on the right track. I just haven’t met them yet.

And one last thing that some forgets. The money that the Government has isn’t theirs. The money belongs to the people that make up this country that we call Canada, not them. But you wouldn’t know it by the way they are handing it out.

That’s my rant, or whatever, for the day. Now I am going for a coffee. I would have thought all that snow shovelling I just did would have cooled me down some. Ha Ha.
