What’s Happening In Port Loring, Ontario, Canada on Oct 13/2022

Fresh Cream For Your Coffee This Morning

Good Morning!

Well, starting things off, it is a rainy morning here in Port Loring. We did have a lot of rain yesterday and through the night. The winds yesterday weren’t all that bad, but last night they got up there a bit. Highway 522 is bare and wet this morning, and it has been quite busy with a lot of trucks moving around. Most of the trucks are from our local construction. There are also a lot of hunters still coming into our area and a few folks just wanting to take in the changing of the leaves. I have to admit they have been putting on quite a show this year with some exceptional colours.

Yesterday I didn’t do all that much, kind of took it easy. Got rested up after the Thanksgiving weekend. I did however work on another #Podcast which will be posted here on my Blog come Friday morning at 9:00 AM. Other than that, not much else is happening in and around our small town.

With that information under your hat. I am off for a bowl of oatmeal for a change. Have a great day.

In Closing, I Would Like To Wish You Well! GW

Morning Chat Dec 15/ 2020

Good Morning! It’s a sunny morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. There are a few clouds, but the sun is managing to show itself. Yesterday we had another 2 inches of snow, not enough to get my snowblower out. I will wait on that as it is very cold this morning with the temperature sitting at -18.6 C | -1.48 F. It’s the coldest morning so far this winter. Things were crunchy when I went out to put some wood in my shop stove. Highway 522 is bare and dry for most parts, with a few icy sections throughout. Travelling should be fair today other than putting up with the cold. It would be a good idea to put a heavy blanket in your car and keep your CAA number handy just in case. You never know what might happen in this part of the country. Yesterday I worked on a Christmas show for my podcast and will continue on with it today. It’s too cold to be outside today. I might bundle up and go for a quick walk around the paths I made on our property. For some exercise. I will see how ambitious I am later on. Other than that not much happening in and around town these days. Folks I suspect are getting ready for Christmas which isn’t that far off. It’s amazing how fast this year has gone by. With that I am off for a cup of tea with my lovely wife, and will then see what the day has in store. Life’s a mystery. Take care, stay safe and look after yourselves, family and friends. And most of all … stay out of the crowded stores and don’t have company come over. Talk on the phone or ?

Morning Chat Dec 6/2020

Good Morning! It’s a cloudy cold morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The temperature was sitting at -7.9 C | 17.78 F. It will warm up but not much as the day moves forward. The good part is we should see some sunshine later on today, tomorrow and the next day. That will be a welcome change. It seems no matter how cold it is, if the sun is shinning everything is better. Highway 522 is bare and dry for most parts. There are some icy sections here and there, so care should be taken on the curves. On another note my wife and I went to North Bay yesterday to pick up some groceries we order online. That way we don’t have to go into the stores. It was a nice trip in and back home. It’s good to get out once in a while and breathe some new air. While there we visited our son from the parking lot at his apartment, dropped him off a few homemade dinners his Mother made for him, and then drove around a bit, just to take in what others are doing, virus wise. And from what I see it’s not good, as the parking lots around the stores were full, along with the stores. It was actually hard to find a parking spot to eat our lunch that my wife made for us before we left. I am not sure where folks minds are these days, as with shopping online and curb side pick- up what more could you ask for? Bars and restaurants that are allowing folks inside in my mind is a bad thing. I say if you have to eat, get take out. If you want a damn beer, pick up a case and go home and enjoy it. Heck!! You can buy a case of six for the price you pay for one or two, at a bar or restaurant. And the thing is we are so close to having a vaccine. Just one more month. If it was up to me, I would close everything down completely for two months. Airports, churches, you name it. Leaving only the stores open we need to survive. To me the help we need right now, is right in front of us, but a lot of people just don’t give a damn, and they will keep on thinking that way, until they are made to do what’s right. The powers that be, should have nipped in the butt in the very beginning and stuck to their guns. If they had done that, it would have become a part of our life like some other countries. It wouldn’t have been nice, but we would have gotten by saving a lot of people from dying. Anyways, that is my rant for this morning. LOL With that I am off for my morning cup of tea with my lovely wife, and will then get to doing some woodworking, in my shop today. Take care, stay safe and do what’s right, to ease this virus from spreading.

Morning Chat Nov 28/2020

Good Morning! Well it’s a sunny morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. It is a touch cool though with the temperature sitting at -0.9 C | 30.38 F. It will warm up a wee bit, but not much. The snow we had has left us, but we did have a heavy frost overnight, which is making things a bit icy. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning and there isn’t much traffic moving around. Mostly locals. Being that the weather has been kind of crappy I have been staying inside. I have lots to do, writing stories for my columns in newspapers, magazines and working on my Podcasts. Today I will do much the same. I will however get out for a walk for some exercise a bit later, once the ice has melted. We don’t need to slip and fall. Not much else going on or happening in our area these days. With that I am off for my morning cup of tea with my lovely wife and will then let the day unfold around me. Take care, stay safe and do what is best for yourself, your family, and others with this virus. It is getting a lot worse at the moment. Crowding in on us here in Port Loring. Not here yet that I know of, but close.

Morning Chat Nov 25/2020

Good Morning! Well … it’s a snowy morning once again here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. I would say we had around three inches overnight. Not so bad, and with the temperatures rising as they are, it will melt fast. I did clean my deck off for the first time this morning, so I could get to my bird feeder. LOL Every morning the birds line up on my railings on the porch looking in … asking … where is the grub? LOL Seems that way anyways. The temperatures this morning was sitting at -1.4 C | 29.48 F. It will warm up a lot as the day progress’s, and will remain warm for the next 4 days. Kind of nice for this time of year. Highway 522 is bare and wet this morning, which will make travelling pretty good. Not that my wife and I have anywhere to go these days. But others might. Yesterday I finished off a Podcast I have been working on, and will get into another today. I enjoy doing them, and it seems a lot of folks enjoy listening to them … with all the reviews, phone calls and Emails I have been getting. Which … makes it all worthwhile. So with that, I am off for a cup of tea with my lovely wife and will add at touch of Nesquik to it, and maybe a piece of toast from some homemade bread my wife and I made yesterday. Yep you heard it right, that woman of mine put an apron on me … and told me to go to town. I made two loaves … so now we will see how they taste. LOL They will either be tasty, or … we will have two door-stops. LOL Have a great day, and stay safe. This virus is getting much worse.

Morning Chat Nov 23/2020

Good Morning! Well … we all woke up to a winter wonderland here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada this morning. I do see though, that we aren’t alone, as a lot of other folks have had snow too. But in saying that it is a sign of what’s to come, and it is almost the end of November. To be honest … I thought we would have had snow before this. But I am not complaining, as I am not a great lover of snow. But it is nice to look at LOL. Highway 522 is wet with a bit of snow here and there, but for most parts it should be still okay to drive on with no issues. For Ruth and I we got everything we need, so we don’t have to go anywhere. Actually … Kerry our friend who owns a garage here in town, nice fellow … is going to put a set of snow tires on our vehicle shortly, which will be nice when we get a lot of snow. I kind of figured, since the tires on our car now, are getting a touch wore out … it’s time LOL. It seems there is always’s something to take a feller’s hard-earned money. At any rate, with the snow on the ground I will be working inside on some more Podcast’s today, which will keep me busy. It’s nice to be able to do what ever we want. With that … I am off for some French Toast for breakfast. I will change that to English Toast LOL, with a touch of syrup. After that I will have a cup of tea, with a touch of chocolate with my lovely wife, and I will then let the day do as so chooses. Take care, stay safe and look after yourselves and others.

Morning Chat Nov 19/2020

Good Morning! Looking out my window here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada the sun is shinning. But it is a touch cool with the temperature sitting at 3.3 C | 37.94 F. It will warm up some as the day moves forward and, remain somewhat warm tomorrow too. Kind of nice for this time of year. Highway 522 is bare and dry and the traffic has slowed down, now that hunting season is over for the year. I guess I should say … hunting deer with a gun is over, but bow season is still with us till Dec. Mostly locals that hunt with bows in our area. I did hunt with a bow for a couple of years, but didn’t like it that much, so sold it a couple of years ago to a fellow here in town. He said he had good luck with it. On another note my wife’s sor back and mine are on the mend, so we both are happy about that. Not nice not being able to do what you want. But … rest and exercise is the fix. Yesterday I worked on a new Podcast I have lined up and will continue working on it again today. Kind of nice being able to sit in where its warm. With that I am off for my morning cup of tea with my lovely wife. I think I will make it a green tea this morning with a touch of chocolate. Hmm, and maybe a raisin bun thrown in for good measure. LOL Take care, stay safe and do what’s right. Things are getting worse every day here in Ontario and across Canada. Why is that? Well … simply put, there are lot out there today that just doesn’t care.

Morning Information Nov 15/2020

Good Morning! It is starting to be quite windy here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada this morning. The temperature is sitting at 2.9 C | 37.22 F. It is raining and I suspect it will rain for most the day, then it could change to snow or freezing rain. I am thinking we will have a mixed bag of weather for today and into tomorrow. The reason for this is we are right on the line of freezing and not freezing. We could even see some power outages with the winds and more so if we get the freezing rain. The lights here in our home have been flickering for a while now. Which isn’t a good sign. But … it is a sign of what’s to come. So in all sincerity Nature does give us warning. Today if the power remains on … my wife and I will finish watching the Masters Golf Tournament. It would be a shame to miss the last day after watching it for three days. But nothing is for sure in life. I have found that out many times over the years. Highway 522 is slowing down some with the hunters out of the bush heading on back to the cities. Which in turn will make it really quiet around here for the next few months. I am okay with that. LOL Especially with this virus closing in on us. With that I am off for my morning cup of tea with my lovely wife and will then enjoy the day for what it is. It’s all in how you make it. Stay safe and do what’s right. Oh, and the power just went out and back on. Hmm.

Good Morning Nov 14/2020

It’s a bit cloudy here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The sun was shinning early around 7:00 AM but now clouds have entered into the picture. The temperature was sitting at -3.1 C | 26.42 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward and if things goes to plan we should see some more sunshine entering into the picture. But in saying that … there is a storm warning up for our area saying:

A strengthening low pressure system that is forecast to track northeastward across northeastern Ontario will bring heavy rain and gusty winds to the Port Loring Area beginning tonight. Rainfall totals of 30 to 50 mm are possible by the time the rain changes to snow Sunday night.
Strong south to southeasterly winds gusting to 70 km/h are also possible tonight. These winds should diminish for a few hours during the day on Sunday before shifting to very strong northwesterlies gusting up to 90 km/h late Sunday afternoon.

Wind warnings may be issued as the event draws near. Strong wind gusts may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.

Power outages may occur.

The potential for strong wind gusts should end Monday afternoon.

So knowing that, I think it would be a good idea to get your flashlights charged up, or some candles put in a place to easily get at and matches. And … it might pay to fill up your generator with fuel, check the oil, and make sure it starts easily. That is … if you have one. On another note, Kerry my friend who owns Booth’s Garage here in town, fixed my brakes on our car yesterday and checked things over. With that done up we should be all set for winter. It’s nice to have a place to take your vehicle to get things done when needed. And … to have someone fix it, that knows what they are doing. So with that, I am off for my morning cup of tea with my lovely wife, and will then get to watching the Masters Golf Game. Saturday and Sunday should be interesting for sure. It’s not as nice to watch this year, without the fans, but it still is entertaining and the grounds are beautiful. Especially with Fall entering into the picture. Take care, stay safe and do what’s right. This virus is getting, a lot worse. I can’t for the life of me see why the Powers That Be, doesn’t do more to slow things down. Well … I guess I understand, as in my mind, it all boils down to the vote and money. I am leaning more so towards the money end of things. LOL My Opinion Only. Enjoy your day the best you can. And remember this!

ALL … Lives Matter, Wear A Mask!!!

Morning Chat Nov 12/2020

So how you all doing this morning? All good I hope. Ruth and I are fine other than a couple sore backs. But we are slowly on the mend. Waking up here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada the sun is shinning. The temperature has cooled down some sitting at 0.9 C | 33.62 F. It will warm up a wee bit as the day moves forward. But even though it is cool, we will see a lot of sunshine for most the day. Highway 522 is bare and dry throughout. Traffic is slow with most folks out in the bush trying to get that trophy buck, which will give them some nice eating this winter. As I say I don’t hunt anymore. I kind of figure I will leave that to the younger folks. My warm home is more enticing these days. LOL Yesterday I did finish up some more things outside, in spite of the high winds we had. I made a dump run, washed the car and put some more things a way that needed to be put out of the weather. So now we should be all set for what Mother Nature has to offer. This morning I will help my wife make some oven bread and then settle in for the Masters Golf Game for 2020 in Augusta Georgia. Usually it is in the spring but with this virus they delayed it till now. So for the next four days my wife and I will be enjoying it. I paid a wee bit more this year on my Shaw bill, so we can watch all four days on TSN. Should be a great 4 days. It’s the only golf I watch. We especially like the course with all the trees, flowers and things. At the moment though it is on hold, as they are having some rain along with some thunderstorms moving through the area. But they are saying the golfers should be back playing in a half hour or so. With that, I am off for some pancakes with a fresh pear caramel sauce that my lovely wife is making. We picked up some Bartlett Pears last time in town. Should be tasty. She is one good cook. Take care and stay safe. Things aren’t good out there these days. GW

Good Morning Nov 9/2020

It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. Yesterday was like summer, today is so so. But not too cold with the temperature sitting at 14.1 C | 57.38 F. Highway 522 was very busy yesterday with campers, trucks loaded with four wheeler’s, all kinds coming into the area for the hunt. I have to say I never seen so many hunters as this year. I suppose it is a good reason to get out of the cities. Can’t say I blame them in some ways. Knowing that though, we here have to take extra precautions for sure. This virus is starting to really gain ground now. I would think a lot is from opening up the school. And of course those that doesn’t wear a mask when out and about. At any rate. Yesterday my wife and I took it easy with both of us having sore backs. Today we will be doing the same. Can’t do much else. LOL With that I am off for my morning cup of coffee and a bowl of oatmeal with my lovely wife and will then see what develops. Take care, stay safe and do what’s right with this virus.
