Good Morning! It’s another cloudy cool morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 3.9 C | 39.02 F. We should see some sunshine a bit later on this morning. Which would be nice. It was a beauty of a day yesterday. There is also a chance of some snow on Wednesday of this week. But even if we get a bit, it won’t last long, as warmer temperatures are to follow. Highway 522 has been quiet these days, with mostly locals moving around. Which is to be expected with the lock-down that is in place for all of Ontario. As bad as it is, shutting down is the only defence we have in slowing this virus down. Yesterday we were well above the 4000, and it is rising daily with these new variants. The worst part is these new variants spread and kill faster. Even in the young. But the vaccines are coming, finally, so lets hope it gets things under control. The closing down should start to ease off the cases within a week, that is if we all do what we should be doing. I suspect we will be dealing with this for a few years to come. So knowing that, the only solution we humans have, is to change our ways, and adapt, instead of sitting back complaining about things. Our forefathers had to do it, and now we have to do it. And one last word about these protesters and things. I don’t worry or think about them any more really. The old saying which is true is… Give them enough rope, and they will hang themselves. It’s been that way from the beginning of time. Actually, truth be told, everything they are doing, is really defeating all they are trying to do. With that bit of info under your hat, for what it’s worth, I am off for a bowl of oatmeal with my lovely wife, and will then get some work done outside that I have lined up. We try and make the best of every day. Take care my friends and stay safe. GW

Good Morning! It’s another cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. The temperature was sitting at 3.2 C | 37.76 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward. We should see some sunshine later on in the day, once it breaks through the clouds. I do see that we might be in for some more snow later on in the week, say around Wednesday. So It looks like winter isn’t finished with us just yet. That should be interesting. On another note, I didn’t do much outside yesterday, it being so cool and wet. Actually I had the wood furnace going for the past two days, and lit it this morning. And I suspect we will be using it for most of this week with the temperatures going down to near the freezing mark on Tuesday and Wednesday. You just never know what can happen weather wise at this time of year. Today I am thinking of doing some outside work, but we will see how that goes. With that I am off for my morning bite to eat with my lovely wife, and will then see what the day has in store. You just never know, which makes life interesting. Stay safe my friends. GW

Morning Chat April 16/2021
Good Morning! It’s a rainy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. And the trees and things are loving it, as everything is turning greener every day. Nice to see. The temperature climbing out of the sack this morning was sitting at 2.4 C | 36.32 F. It will warm up a bit as the day moves forward, but … I suspect it will remain cloudy for most of the day. Or so my old weather stick is saying. My Grandfather showed me how to make them many years ago. Or I should say … he showed me what kind of tree to get the branches off of, as not all trees work. I have to admit that the weather stick predicting the weather is about as accurate, if not more than the Powers That Be’ website LOL Once you get to knowing how it works that is. LOL. On another note my wife and I have been noticing a lot of new birds visiting our bird feeder these days. I know … some say. Why feed them this time of year? Well. I’ll tell you why. It’s that my wife and I enjoy their visits so much, we want to keep them around, and along with that, we get all kinds of different feathered friends dropping by that usually wouldn’t as the feed draws them. Yesterday I worked outside most of the day on our back deck. I managed to jack it up, straighten things out and move it back in place. The frost last year moved it away from the house a bit. Nature does that sometimes just to annoy me. LOL With that I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal and a cup of tea with my lovely wife, and will then let the day unfold around me. I think I will write up a new story or two for my newspaper columns today, since it’s a rainy day. Have a great day and stay safe. GW
Morning Chat April 15/2021
Good Morning! It’s a cloudy cool morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at 3.6 C | 38.48 F. It will warm up a touch later on, and if lucky we could see a wee bit of sunshine breaking through the clouds from time to time. It’s nice to look outside in the morning seeing green instead of white. The grass is really starting to grow, and I suspect it won’t be long before it will be needing to be cut. I would say in about another week. I have also seen our first Yellow Day Lilly while rolling the land around our house yesterday. It sure makes it nice to walk on. And not only that I now won’t lose my hat when mowing. It also pushes the roots back down into the soil which makes for a nicer lawn through the summer months. Today I am going to work on my back deck, as it has heaved some from the frost over winter and moved a bit. After that I will see what else I can get into. With so much to do I can pick and choose. LOL With that I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal and will then get to work. Take care and stay safe. This virus is sure picking on us humans here in Ontario these days. GW
Morning Chat April 14/2021
Good Morning. It’s a sunny morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. However, it is cool outside, with the temperature sitting at 3 C | 37.4 F. The sun should remain with us for most of the day. It will warm up as the morning moves forward. Tomorrow we are back to some more showers. It kind of looks like a mixed bag of weather for the remainder of the week. But in saying that, when there is sunshine outside, my wife and I take advantage of it and enjoy it. Yesterday we took it a bit easy with some inside work I had to finish up. Today if it doesn’t rain I am thinking of rolling my lawn, and if real lucky I might till up my vegetable garden for the first time, so the soil can breathe. The sooner you can work it up the better, as then the sun has a chance to do its job for later on whey I get to planting. I will have to check it out in a bit. If it is still too wet, I will leave it for another week. The thing I found over the years while farming, is that a feller has to work with Nature. On another note I did light the wood furnace this morning being so cold, which will take the dampness out of the house. Feels mighty nice. Along with that it saves us some oil for later on, when it isn’t that cold, and only need a wee bit of heat. With that I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal and will then get to work. There is nothing better than oatmeal to keep the blood pressure in check. Along with a lot of other health related things. Take care and stay safe. GW
Morning Chat April 13/2021
Good Morning! It’s a cloudy day here in Port Loring, Ontario. Today it will remain cloudy for most of the day with a few showers entering into the picture later on this afternoon. But it is spring, and such weather is to be expected. Tomorrow however we should see some sunshine returning which will allow temperatures to rise a bit. The grass and trees have sure greened up in the past two days. It’s as if it is saying … It’s spring, I made it through the winter. Get that mower out as I will be needing a hair cut soon. Yesterday my wife and I made plans of what we have to do this summer outside. Took most of the day. Today we will get to implementing them ideas. Maybe. You can always make plans, but never the results. Such is life, and it depends on the weather. LOL With that I am off for a bowl of cereal and will then let the day unfold around me. Take care and stay safe. This virus is taking its toll on us Canadians now. Well over 4000 yesterday with more dying every day.
Morning Chat April 12/2021
Good Morning! We are starting things off here in Port Loring with a lot of clouds along with some intermittent showers this morning. The rain will stay with us today and into tomorrow. If we are lucky, we might see a wee bit of sunshine on Wednesday. This time of the year no one, even the so-called experts can really forecast exactly what the weather will be. The only one that knows for sure is Mother Nature, and she even is having problems these days. LOL The snow is all but gone now, and the grass is greening up nicely. It won’t be long, and we will be mowing. Not that I really want to get into that yet, as we have a lot of other things to do first. The trees are starting to come out in bud too, and our White Lilac Bush is really starting to show off. It won’t be long and my lovely wife will have some for her table every day. Which will be nice for sure. My vegetable garden is drying out, or should say, was drying out. Once it is dry enough, I will get busy and till it up, so it can dry even more, so it will be ready for planting, which isn’t that far off. I sure enjoy fresh vegetables for our table every day. Especially a nice fresh toasted tomato sandwich. Yesterday my wife and I finished watching the Masters Golf Tournament. Well … I did, she worked all day doing the wash, then hanging them on the line, and then folding and putting away. After that, she made a nice meat loaf supper with mashed potatoes and butter, along with fresh asparagus. Can’t beat that for a nice meal. She is a worker for sure, never stops that woman. Today I have some work to do in our cottage to be, since it is raining outside, and after breakfast will get at that. Take care and stay safe as Ontario reported a record 4,456 cases of COVID-19 on Sunday. And a lot of them were the new variants which are now picking on the younger folks. Not good.
The Masters
So far it’s been a great game at the Masters Golf Tournament this year. My wife and I have been enjoying it for the past three days. Right now it is anyone’s game, as there are four tied for second place. And along with that, Corey Conner’s, our very own here in Canada made a hole-in-one. .
Morning Chat April 11/2021
Good Morning!. It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring, Ontario. The temperature climbing out of bed this morning was sitting at 14.7 C | 58.46 F. These temperatures will continue for most of the week. We will also see some rain entering into our area later on this afternoon, and will continue to rain off and on, right up until Thursday. After that mess is out of the way we should see some sunshine, but it will remain cool for the next two weeks. Not much we can do about it. Early in my life on the farm, I was taught to take advantage of the nice days, which my wife and I have been doing here where we live now. Then on the not so good days I get busy and do other things that need doing inside or in my woodworking shop. I keep on calling it my woodworking shop, but truth be told I do a lot more in there than just woodworking. I have to admit it is nice having a place, to do these things. It has saved us a lot of money over the years, with being able to do these things myself. On another note my wife and I went to North Bay yesterday to pick up our groceries that we order online. We also dropped off some goodies and things for our son at his apartment. We don’t go inside we chat in his parking lot and then on the phone on our way home. Furthermore, we don’t go to any restaurants or stores which keeps us busy. Most of all the other things we need, we can buy right here in town. And right now our own small community needs all the help it can get. I know as with our small store being closed for over a year now my wife and I sure notice the difference. But not much we can do about it other than take care of ourselves. I suspect we will be dealing with this for a few more years. There were 3,813 new cases Saturday, and I am sure it will rise even more in the coming days. If we all do what we should be doing like staying home the numbers should start to drop within a week or so. The trouble is, as soon as the numbers drop, they start to open things back up, which accelerates things once again. It seems a lot of us humans are a brute for punishment. I seriously believe, and I hate to say this, that the only way that some, not all mind ya, the only way they will take this serious is when a loved one becomes infected, gets very sick, or ? Anyways … that is my rant for this morning. With that, I am going to enjoy a couple pancakes with an egg, topped off with our local Maple Syrup which came from my friend Mike Clapperton. You can’t beat his Syrup let me tell ya. Nice fellow. Take care and stay safe.
Morning Chat April 9/2021
Good Morning! It’s a cloudy morning here in Port Loring Ontario. But it is spring, and some cloudy rainy days are to be expected. It has though been quite warm, with temperatures reaching up to 23C/73F throughout the day. Today will remain warm with a few showers thrown in for good measure. Tomorrow will be a gorgeous day, with plenty of sunshine. My old Dad used to say that some old fashion things like fresh air and sunshine can’t be beat. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, so far, but with things being closed down and warnings to stay at home, and inside, no one should be travelling anyways. Unless you are in need of some groceries or medical supplies. For my wife and I, we are pretty well set, so there isn’t any reason for us to be going anywhere. On another note, we did get a lot of outside work done around the place for the past few days which is the reason why I didn’t get to doing my morning chat. Today we will be watching The Masters Golf Tournament. Which my wife and sure enjoy. I have to say, that I don’t think there is another golf course that I know of, that looks so beautiful. Seeing all the flowers and trees out in full bloom, is sure something to see. We enjoy looking at them as much as we do watching the game. Well … maybe not quite. LOL With that I am off for my morning bowl of oatmeal with my lovely wife and will then let the day do as it so chooses. Not that I could do anything about it anyways. Life is like a mystery novel, you just never know what is going to happen until you turn the next page. Such is life. Have a great day these new variants here in Ontario are running rampant these days with over 3000 a day now entering into the picture along with a lot of deaths. It’s no use helping it along. Stay safe!
UPDATE!! Ontario records more than 4,200 new COVID-19 cases, 2nd highest daily count ever.

Good Morning! Starting things off here in Port Loring, Ontario we are seeing some sunshine. We will see some clouds entering into the picture later on, with some light showers in the latter part of the day and into the night. It was a bit cool getting up with the temperature sitting at 3.5 C | 38.3 F. It will warm up as the day progresses. Highway 522 is bare and dry which is to be expected this time of year. On another note my wife and I did get some work done outside yesterday, and today we will continue on. With that I am off for some pancakes with an egg on top that my lovely wife is preparing, and will then see what the day has in store. Take care and stay safe. GW
Morning Chat April 5/2021
Good Morning! It’s another sunny day here in Port Loring, Ontario. It is a touch cool getting out of bed with the temperature sitting at 0.8 C | 33.44 F. A touch above freezing. It will warm up a lot as the day moves forward, and the sun should remain with us all day. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning making travelling good. That is if you have to go anywhere. We didn’t have any frost overnight. Things have been greening up a lot these days with my lawn looking better every day. Nice to see. Pretty soon the Dandelions will be among us, and I hope everyone digs a couple from time to time and makes a cup of tea. Can’t beat that to get the old immune system up to par. Just make sure you dig them in a good area that isn’t contaminated. Yesterday my wife and I worked outside all day, moving some lumber into another area, that we are going to use to build our outside shower house. Now I have room for our boat, which we uncovered yesterday as the tarp I had covering it was leaking, and the water was getting into it. Today once it dries out I will put it under the car port for the summer. It needs a good cleaning at the moment. Which I will get to in the coming days. With that I am of off for my morning bowl of cereal with my lovely wife, and will then head on off outside to enjoy the nice weather. Take care and stay safe. GW
Food for thought
One day a florist in Ottawa went to a barber for a haircut. After the cut, he asked about his bill, and the barber replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you, I’m doing community service this week’ The florist was pleased and left the shop.
When the barber went to open his shop the next morning, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen roses waiting for him at his door.
Later, a cop comes in for a haircut, and when he tries to pay his bill, the barber again replies, ‘I cannot accept money from you, I’m doing community service this week.’ The cop was happy and left the shop.
The next morning when the barber went to open up, there was a ‘thank you’ card and a dozen Tim Horton donuts waiting for him at his door.
Then an MP came in for a haircut, and when he went to pay his bill, the barber again replied, ‘I cannot accept money from you. I’m doing community service this week.’ The MP was very happy and left the shop.
The next morning, when the barber went to open up, there were a dozen MP’s lined up waiting for a free haircut.
And that, my friends, illustrates the fundamental difference between the citizens of our country and the politicians who run it.
As Ronald Reagan said: “Both politicians and diapers need to be changed often and for the same reason.”
Morning Chat April 4/2021
Good Morning! It’s a sunny morning for a change here in Port Loring, Ontario. It is a bit cool though with the temperature getting out of bed sitting at -1.9 C | 28.58 F. Things will warm up as the day moves forward. After today, a lot of warmer weather will enter into the picture, and we should see our highs reaching 17C/64F nearing the end of the week. Which will sure make it nice for being outside. Yesterday I didn’t do too much outside, but my lovely wife did finish up the raking out back of our house. Things are looking pretty good around the place now, and will continue to get nicer once the plants start to grow, and the grass starts to turn green, along with the leaves on the trees. Can’t wait. Through the night we did have some more frost which is rapidly melting with the sun that is upon us. Pretty well all our snow has left us, other than a bit that is left at the end of my driveway by my woodworking shop, where it was pushed into a pile throughout the winter. But it will be gone by the middle of the week I am sure. Highway 522 is bare and dry. Today I will do some outside work getting things ready to build our shower house for the cottage. Going to take a lot of work, but a little at a time things get done. And as I said before we would like to get a lot of the hard work done before the Black Flies enter into the picture, along with the mosquitoes. We will see how that goes. We are still lighting our wood furnace every morning with it being so cold, but I suspect that will come to an end shortly. On another note the Snow Drops a little white flower is blooming in our gardens showing off. I have to admit they are sure nice to see every spring. They don’t last too long. Lots of new birds are also coming back to our area, like the Robbins, Crows, Geese, Ducks and Seagulls. Every day a few more enter into the picture. Which my wife and I enjoy. Soon their offspring’s will be brought around for us to see as they seem to do that every year. With that I am off for a bowl of oatmeal with my lovely wife and will then see what the day has in store, other than what I have planned. I have always said that you can make plans but never plan the results. Take care and stay safe this virus is getting much worse these days here in Ontario.
Ontario is reporting another 3,009 COVID-19 cases yesterday and 16 more deaths.
The Fuel of the future
Now here is a video that my Cousin sent me, of what we should be looking at here in Canada and across the world. Makes a lot of sense for sure, and it is something that will help our world immensely.

Good Morning! It’s another cool morning here in Port Loring, Ontario, Canada. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at -2.5 C | 27.5 F. It will warm up as the day moves forward but not by much. We should see some sunshine off and on throughout the morning, and possibly some light flurries or rain this afternoon. Tomorrow though things start to change for our area with warmer temperatures entering into the picture. We didn’t have any snow overnight, but we did have a frost and everything is white and frozen being so cold. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning with pretty well, everyone staying at home. I suspect Easter has something to do with that. For my wife and I every day is the same, and we make the best of each one. On another note my wife and I did a bit of work outside yesterday being so nice and sunny. Today I have some wires to run from one computer to another, which I will get at after breakfast. And after that I will take things easy and work away here on another Podcast, and maybe a new story. I will see how it goes. With that you all take it easy and have a great day. It’s all up to you. GW
Morning Chat April 2/2021
Good Morning! It’s a sunny day here in Port Loring Ontario, It is a bit cool though with the temperature sitting at -6.3 C | 20.66 F. It will warm up a wee bit as the day moves forward. And by the looks of things now, it will start to warm up a lot come Sunday, and all next week is looking pretty nice too. I am thinking my wife and I will be doing some front porch sittin in the coming days. We … also have a big job to do outside getting ready for an outside shower and things, so I might get into that if I feel up to it. I would like to get a lot of it done before the blackflies enter into the picture. Then when they arrive I will work on installing a new wood stove we bought in the cottage, where I can get away from them blood sucking parasites. So lots to do. Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, which will make travelling good, but it’s best if you stay home. I see they have a lock-down for all of Ontario starting tomorrow. Which is a good thing, and I have been saying it all along. IN doing so it will give folks time to get the vaccine, along with bringing down the numbers, as it is getting real bad with folks getting sick, and the death rate is rising a lot too. The problem was that if you close one town down, and not the rest, people just up and go to the towns or cities that aren’t locked down, which in turn spreads it even more. I also feel that they should have closed down a lot more stores like all the churches along with the schools. The Bottom line is, that a lot of people don’t care, and they won’t care … until they become sick, or someone in their family becomes sick or? What a shame that is. At any rate … I don’t want to get to thinking on them things today. Why? Well … it’s my birthday, and all I want to think on today is good things. You know … I had a feller call me yesterday to wish me a Happy Birthday, and he went on to say. You don’t look that old! I thanked him, and then I got to thinking about that statement. And you know what? I am still thinking about that statement LOL Have a great day and stay safe. GW
Episode 67: Cowboy Hats
Episode 67: Hi folks. Boy time sure fly’s by. Here it is again Friday and time for another Podcast. Lately being so cold outside I have been working on a few different Podcasts. Reason being I don’t want to be stuck in the house when the nice weather arrives. Which by the looks of things isn’t that far off. With that … I hope you enjoy today’s story. Cowboy Hats. Take care and stay safe, there is a light at the end of the tunnel beginning to show itself with these new vaccines arriving daily. GW
