News For Port Loring

Still quiet around town, not many cars or trucks even going up and down the highway. But that is to be expected this time of year.  The only real active place in town would be the Legion as it has different events happening every week.  Lucky to have them, as it gets folks out of the house.  I have found the worse thing one can do is sit around.  The old body I have found needs lots of exercise , the more the better.  If one just sits around, I can guarantee problems will arise.  So get outside, go for walks and put yourself on a rigorous exercise program and do it faithfully every day.  Doesn’t matter how old you are neither, so no excuses.  Also make sure you get your sunshine, and through out the winter months take a drop or two of Vitamin D each day, best medicine you could ever take, bar none. Have a great day my friends.

Again quiet out there.  But here at our home we been busy.  Yesterday my wife and I went for a drive and cut down our yearly Christmas tree.  Got a nice one this year and will look really nice when all decorated up.  Got it sitting outside by the shop at the moment, till we get things prepared for its grand entrance.  Nothing more entices me than watching the tree being decorated by my lovely wife, while sipping hot chocolate and listening to some soft Christmas music.  The real tree has been a tradition here at our home and our boys even into today still, looks forward to waking up Christmas morning to the tree, surrounded by gifts that Santa brought through out the night.  Some years presents were scarce I can remember, but no matter what, even if I had to make things myself, there was always some gifts in the offering come Christmas morning.  Well have a great day my friends.  Enjoy your day and for those that aren’t in the Christmas spirit yet, just think of that movie Scrooge and a whole new meaning of how Christmas should be, will open up, right before your eyes.  Talk soon.

News for Port Loring

Well with Christmas now not to far off I see a lot of store are having sales.  For myself I have to admit I like looking at the flyers that comes out once a week.  Not that we buy a lot of stuff anymore, but interesting just the same, to see what they can drop the prices of things down too.  Kind of makes a fellow wonder if they can sell these things once a week at half the price, or lower, why they couldn’t just drop it a touch all the time.  I know, it’s Christmas and these sales on certain items are put in place for a reason.  Reason being, to get you into their store in the hope you will buy more.  Good idea in theory I suppose.   One has to have the will power to just go in and buy the sales and come home.  My wife and I still buy presents for out boys, well guess I shouldn’t call them boys as they are both are getting up there and now our new Grandson Cole whom came into the picture last summer.  Cute little feller let me tell ya, and right at the moment into everything.  Just a going concern.  My wife’s and I’s presents are ourselves and kind of has been that way for most of all our married life together, which as a matter of fact is over thirty six years.  Picked her up when she was only a spring chicken and decided to keep her.  Well probably the other way around.  Putting up with this old feller all these years hasn’t been the easiest I suspect.  We still put up a real tree every year and I look forward in watching my wife decorate it.  Seems Christmas isn’t really here, till the tree is sittin’ in the corner surrounded with presents with the lights just a twinkling away.  Kind of makes me feel sad and happy all in one.  I guess I shouldn’t say my wife and I have never bought presents for each other as we have.  Only thing was that when we did have enough money back on the farm, the present usually would be something that we could use to make us money like a tractor, disc, plow, some different tools things like that. I guess you could  say it was the gift that keeps on giving.    Well guess I should go, I lit the old wood stove in the shop so it warms up some for some work I want to do, so should go and check that out.  Then have a tea or two and see what the day brings me.  Enjoy your day my friends and cya all back here tomorrow morning.

Nothing much to report other than lots of snow.  Not many cars or trucks moving around out there that’s for sure. Haven’t seen one go by our house here on Highway 522 all morning.  Even the snow plow today is having a hard time in making an appearance.  The snow is heavy though with lots of ice under it.  So taking all them things into consideration folks, best if at all possible to curl up with a good book today and stay home.  That’s what my lovely wife and I are going to do.  For myself the first snow fall is the nicest and from any window in our home the view is fantastic.  Nature can be beautiful my friends, if one allows it to enter our minds of what it wants us to see.  Have a great day.

Had our Local Service Boards Meeting last night.   Our Budget passed for another year.  Taxes only went up a dollar or two per household and that was to cover the increase in costs of things.   We also will be getting some new play ground equipment for our Community Center.  So now when an event is happening, at the center, the young ones has a place to play and stay safe.  It is a really nice set up for sure and come spring make sure you drop by and take a look. If you have young ones, bring them along, as after all it is for them.  Our office for the Local Service’s Board is almost complete and come the new year we are hoping to have it set up ready for the public to have a look. Long time coming and much needed.  The two signs that I am looking after for Highway 522, one coming in from Highway 69 and the other coming in from Highway 11 should be up come spring.  Just got to set down with the sign folks in the coming days to straighten a few things out.  Also would like to say here our Web Site and Blog is going really well.  We have been getting a great flow of folks dropping by to take a look at things.  The web site and Blog belongs to the community and is there for all, so remember if you are in need for information this is the place to come to, if you would like some information made public, with in reason, let me know and it will be added.  So guess that is it for today.   Tea time here and will cya all right back here tomorrow morning.

News For Port Loring & District

Not much happening actually, quite quiet.  Hardly any cars or trucks moving around out there for that matter. But then one has to realize winter is moving into our area and folks are relaxing a bit after the busy summer.  I for one enjoy the quiet times as it gives me more time to do some writing and shop work and more time to bug my wife.  On the health scene not to much sickness around, folks are staying relativity healthy from what I hear.    The easiest way to do that is to look after yourselves and don’t rely on others to do it for ya.  There is no one that knows your body better than you do.  An old feller one time said;

The doctor of the future
will no longer treat the
human frame with drugs,
but rather will cure
and prevent disease
with nutrition.”

Thomas Edison

No truer words have been said.  What you put in your body is what you become.  But not only what you put in your body, what you put on your body.  One has to do the research, come up with a life style and then do it, simple as that.  And as I said before don’t relay on anyone and I mean anyone to do it for ya.  You are your own keeper, no one else.  Have a great day my friends, tea time here with my lovely wife and I will cya all here again tomorrow morning.

Got a bit for folks to ponder on this morning.  Last night I attended a meeting at the Nursing Station relating to our Ambulance Service here in town and at the end of the night a good healthy plan was set in effect.  Danny Brooks in his own words said; I feel we are moving forward in a supportive direction for the long-term solutions to keeping our Ambulance service alive & well in the Argyle area.  A recruiting drive will also be sent out to the community via the Argyle Fire Department Quarterly Newsletter (January 2012 edition) and the Local Services Board web page bulletin board.

When this news letter comes out I urge everyone that lives in our area to take a look at it for yourselves, as I am sure it will ease everyone’s mind, along with quenching ones thirst of what is happening with our ambulance service here in Port Loring.  Let me assure you that there is lots being done to assure that we keep and maintain our ambulance service and once the news letter comes out it will eliminate any false rumours which manages to show their selves occasionally  as in all towns across Canada at one time of another.  Soon as the news letter is put out I will have it entered here on our Local Service Board’s Web Site for all to see.  Have a great day.

There is a few events going on at the Legion here in town, you can check them out by going to Events on the main page under Community.   This time of year the Legion is what keeps our small town active, so if at all possible drop by sometime and take part in some of the events.  If not the events just to say hi to the folks that keep it going, along with the members.

Today I am in the shop again working on some flutes.  Like to get them behind me before Christmas as this new novel I have been working on is nagging   at me to get writing.  So will be giving it the attention it deserves in a month or so.

My book signings are about wrapped up for this year and I am not planning on putting a new book out come spring.  If things goes right the spring of 2013 will be when the next one arrives but this time it will be a fiction novel.  Kind of like to let myself go for a change and not directly relate the stories to myself, family or friends.  Will be a great book my friends when all said and done.   Well tea time here, my wife and I enjoy a cup or two every morning before we start our day and do some serious chatting.  LOL LOL  Been that way now for over thirty some years.  Enjoy your day, get some fresh air with some sunshine, eat right and rely on yourself for what ails ya and I will be here again tomorrow morning.

News Here In Port Loring Friday, November 18 2011

Again quiet around town.  With these cooler temperatures folks are sleeping in a touch.  Which I can’t rightly blame them.  Them warm covers makes it pretty hard to even think of getting out iof bed  This morning i got the old shop stove perkin’ away to warm it up a touch. Yesterday got my wood all cut for my flutes and today will plane them down to size and get them ready to use.  I enjoy these days in the shop, gives me some quiet time of a different sort.  While working, one reflects back on the just past summer and for most parts my mind is  already thinking of what next year might bring.  Nice to be able to do what one wants in life.  You know, there is no reason why any one can’t do just that neither, as it is all up to him or her on how they live their life.  Some want lots of money, some want fame, but for a very few of us that has worked hard all their life, not asking for anything other than food for the table, which for most parts we grow our own , good health and a warm place to hang his or her hat, well……living a simple life is all that we ask.  What is living a simple life?  Well, doing what we want, when we want and how we want. Not relying on others, being self efficient, having a few good friends to chat to and if one wants to stop for a coffee or tea he or she does just that, no matter what time of day.  Here in Port Loring one is able to do that my friends, surrounded by nature, fresh air and more in things to do than one could ever imagine, that is if one lets Mother Nature into ones life. It’s all up to you.  So guess that is it for today, going to go and have a nice cup of tea with my lovely wife, and, well…..let the day take me to where it so chooses.  Have a great day my friends and will CYA all back here tomorrow morning.

News For Port Loring Tuesday, November 15 2011

Well not to much is happening in an around town. Most folks are in the bush with families, hunting and enjoying life. Myself I have some cleaning to do in my shop so It will be ready to start making my flutes and things. One thing I hate is a shop with things laying all over the place and at the moment that is the way it is. So get myself out there in a bit and straighten things up. Visiting our son in the big city did give me a chance to pick up some shop items, like sandpaper for my machines and different items that one can’t buy around here. I got to go to through that Costco store they got down there and I have to say they sure have a pile of stuff and at good prices too. Only thing I don’t like about it is they make you pay so much a year to shop there. But works out good, as my son is a member so I can go in with him. One also can order on line I see too.

My wife and I did have a good time, living so far apart I don’t get to see my Son Craig, Daughter in law and Grandson that often.  So when we do my wife and I try and make the most of it.  Was a good trip down and back also, old car perked right along thanks to Kerry here in town, as he is the feller that keeps it running.  Well had better go, got a nice hot tea here waiting for me.  Every morning my wife has a tea together and do some chattin’  We call it talk a tea.   LOL  Then later on if weather permits we do some front porch sittin’ with a nice cup of perked organic coffee.  One last item, don’t forget that my wife and I  are having a book signing at Gulliver’s in North Bay this coming Saturday, November 19 from 1:00 PM till 3:00 PM, hope to see you all there.  Have a great day my friends, stay safe if out hunting, get some sunshine which we all need so badly and cya all back here again tomorrow morning.

There will be a Remembrance Day Service at the Legion on the 11th of November starting at 10:50 AM and a lunch to follow at noon. Then on the 14th if you feel up to a good bowl of chilli, they are having a meal starting at 11:30 AM. All proceeds going to support the Legion Branch. Sounds good to me as I love chilli. Everyone is welcome at the Port Loring, Legion Branch 415, Phone number 705 757 2330. So why not drop by, have a meal or two, order a few meat pies, have a drink or two, not to many though, as they are watching folks pretty good this season, with ride programs set up all over. Moderation folks and common sense, is what is needed. Have a great day.

Bit of News For Port Loring Ontario

Good morning.  Not much happening here this morning news wise.  Folks are heading off to their favorite churches, as I see a few cars heading up and down the Highway.   Also we all should be taking a few quiet moments to thank our solders of today and yesteryear for all they have done in keeping us safe here in this Country we call Canada.  There will be Remembrance Day service at St Andrew’s United Church from 09:45 – 10:45 this morning. Later on when it warms up some I would think a cup of hot coffee on the front porch soaking up some sunshine, would be in order, as one thing we all do need is Vitamin D my friends and up here in this country, this time of year it can get scarce.  So one should be taking advantage of it when she is showing her stuff.   Enjoy your day my friends, as being happy is our main objective in life.
