Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy, rainy morning in Port Loring.
We did not get any snow overnight, but we did get rain, which began around 5:00 a.m. this morning.

It is also a touch windy. I would say with the rain and the warm temperatures we have and are having, we have lost about half of our snow. There is still some ice on the roofs yet, which we should get rid of today. Hopefully. If we don’t, it will stay with us for a while, as starting tomorrow we will be back into some cold weather for a couple more days.

But since it’s still February, everything is possible in terms of the weather.
This morning, Highway 522 is wet and bare, which is good for the snowplow drivers.

Aside from that, I spent the entire day yesterday working on my newest book and will do the same today.
The day wasn’t ideal for working on it.
One of those days when my thoughts weren’t on it.
Perhaps today

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal that my lovely wife is making for me, and we will then go from there. You never know, these days.

Stay safe. GW

Here is a picture of the dairy farm where I was bordered out at and eventually adopted. I do have a few pictures taken in the summer, so when I come upon them, I will post them. I miss them old days. Reg & Laura Potter in Coldwater, Ontario, were the folks that took me in. Nice folks.

Good morning!

It’s a sunny morning here, waking up. The temperature was sitting at -6.6 C | 20.12 F. It will warm up well above the freezing mark as the day moves forward. Which will be nice. My wife and I can’t wait till we can get outside to do some front porch sitting. We will see how today looks and feels later on, maybe we can sit out in the sun for a bit. Might help us feel somewhat better.

Highway 522 is bare and dry this morning, which will make travelling good for those wanting to go anywhere. It is nice to get away now and then. Being coped up in the house isn’t what humans are all about.

Yesterday I worked on my Mystery Novel that I am putting together. Today I will do the same. I will see how that goes.

With that, you all have a great day and stay safe. GW

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy morning, waking up. We didn’t have any snow or rain through the night. The temperature at the time of this post was sitting at -2.5 C | 27.5 F. It will warm up above freezing, as the day moves forward. Which is fine with me. As we still have some ice on our buildings. Highway 522 is pretty well clear of snow and ice this morning. Which ought to make travelling fair.

We have lost a few inches of snow so far with the warm temperatures, but we still have a foot left in certain areas. The melting is more noticed around the trees. Meaning the trees are getting ready for another years of work. Sure is amazing how Nature works if you take the time to notice things.

On another note, I did get a lot accomplished on my new novel I am working on yesterday. My mind is on a roll. Ha ha. I am enjoying it, as it is a complete change from what I usually do or write about. Lots of Characters that want to be noticed. Ha ha. Today I will continue on.

With that I am off for a bowl of Vector Cereal, I kind of like it … as it has lots of protein in it along with other good things. The only issue is it isn’t cheap. Coming in at around $11.00 a box. But they do have sales, occasionally. Which eases the pain. I also found it helps with what is ailing my wife and I. A wee bit.

Have a great day and stay safe. GW

Good Morning!

It’s another sunny morning here, waking up. Which is sure nice to see and feel for that matter. The temperature also stayed quite mild through the night, with it sitting at -5.6 C | 21.92 F. It will warm up to above the freezing mark as the day moves forward. These warmer temperatures should remain with us for the next 4 or 5 days. Highway 522 is mostly bare this morning, which will make travelling good for those in need of some things in North Bay, Sudbury or Powassan. My wife and I have what we need, being that we went in last week.

On another note, I worked away here on my Mystery Novel I am writing and will do the same today. My wife and I are still not feeling all that good, so we will be taking things a bit easy. Be nice when it warms up, so we can open all the windows and air out the house. Although with our wood furnace we do have most of all our inside doors open through the day, which does allow quite a bit of new air in.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal and will then see what the day has in store, other than what we have planned. Stay safe. GW

Good Morning!

Starting things off, it’s a cold morning. Getting out of bed, the temperature was sitting at -16.9 C | 1.58 F. Actually, I had to put an extra blanket on my bed through the night. Just until I got the energy to get up and put some wood in the furnace. Ha ha. After that, I had to take the extra blanket off. Also looking out we are in the midst of a lot of sunshine which is sure nice to see. It will stay with us for the remainder of the day. And if that isn’t enough, things will warm up to well above the freezing mark. And taking things one step further, it will warm up even more tomorrow. I like the direction that things are going. Highway 522 is pretty well bare and wet this morning, but there are some icy sections throughout. So care will have to be taken if out and about.

On another note, on our way to and from North Bay the other day, we did see lots of deer alongside, and crossing the highway. And don’t think for a second that the guardrails will prevent them from running out in front of you. As they simply, nice as you please, glide right over them. They do it majestically, too.

Yesterday I worked away here on my mystery novel and will continue on today. At least I think I will, as I have to be in the right frame of mind for the words to flow. Been good so far. With that, I am off for some Waffles my lovely wife is making for me. She is feeling somewhat better this morning. We still haven’t figured out what is, and has been ailing us stomach wise. Has us baffled, being that we have had it now for over two months off and on. At any rate, we will enjoy the good days.

Take care and stay safe.

Good Morning!

Snow is falling outside this morning.
We had maybe 2 inches at the time of this post. It did however melt a lot through the night. Having said that, the temperature has dropped and will continue to do so throughout the day. The temperature waking up was sitting at -1.3 C | 29.66 F. Highway 522 is snow covered with some icy sections throughout.

On another note, my wife and I didn’t do much yesterday or will be today as she was feeling better but last night and this morning she isn’t well again. Something to do with the stomach, but no one can figure it out. Not only her, though, as I am the same. A couple of days feeling okay, the next we are not. Going on now for over a month. Weird. Not much we can do I guess other than wait it out.

So with that I am going to make my lovely wife a cup of herbal tea and will then see what the day has in store. Stay safe. GW

They wrote a very true statement on the picture below.
I miss my Dad and my old friends who have passed away.

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy morning here, waking up. The good news is we didn’t have any more snow overnight and … it has slowly been melting some of this ice, we have on our roofs. The temperature getting out of bed was sitting at -3.9 C | 24.98 F. It will warm up more as the day moves forward. Highway 522 is pretty well clear of snow and ice, but in saying that, we could see some freezing rain throughout the day along with some more snow. We will have to see how that pans out.

On another note, my wife and I, needing a few groceries, headed on into the big city of North Bay yesterday. We figured we would take advantage of the nice sunny day. Kind of glad we did, by the looks of our weather today.

I also wanted to pick up a new winch for my ATV at Canadian Tire that they had on sale. The only issue I had was that the Canadian Tire in North Bay didn’t have one in stock, so … we had to make a trip to Sturgeon Falls as we called, and they had 4. Made it just in time as yesterday was the last day of the sale. Saved $80.00. Good in one way but not so good in another as it cost us more for gas ha ha. But it was a nice sunny day, and we enjoyed getting out and away for a bit. We both were getting cabin fever. While there, we came upon a Metro Grocery Store. We decided to check it out and discovered that they had some really great vegetables. Even their Romain lettuce, which is difficult to find at this time of year, appeared to have just been picked. So we bought some, and I had it for supper when we got home. Sure was tasty. After that we drove back to North Bay picked up a few more groceries, had lunch in our car while people watching and slowly drove back home. Great day for sure.

On another note. My current mystery novel will keep me busy for the majority of the day as I work on it. I’ve been working on it for a year or more, and I decided that this is the year I want to finish it. I am thinking it will lead into a series. We will see how that goes in the coming days.

So with that, I’m off to have some toast and a bowl of cereal.
Stay safe because many illnesses are spreading due to people no longer taking precautions.

The phrase on the image below also applies to Canada.
I can recall the times when events of that nature occurred.
Today, though, not so.
It seems that some advancements, don’t amount to much.

Good Morning!

When I first got out of bed, the temperature was -2.7 C or 27.14 F.
As the day moves forward, the temperature will increase a little.

A few ice patches can be found all along Highway 522, which is partially covered in snow.
Overnight, we didn’t have any more snow.
Having said that, the sky is rather dark to the west, so we might see a little more of the white later on.
We’ll have to wait and see.

Additionally, there is a lot of wind outdoors, which will result in warmer temperatures.
That’s okay with me, since I’d like to see some of this snow and ice melt.
But whatever happens, happens.

I didn’t do much yesterday with my wife not being well.
She is active this morning, but she needs to take it easy.

Having said that, I’m going to get a bowl of cereal and then work away on one or two stories I have in mind for my columns.
Stay Safe!

Good Morning!

The good news is we didn’t have any more snow overnight. It is cool though with the temperature sitting at -13.5 C | 7.7 F waking up. It will warm up some as the day moves forward. The warmer weather, however, won’t arrive until tomorrow. But with it, there will be some more snow off and on. As if we don’t have enough now. It took my wife and I all afternoon yesterday to clean up what we did have, which was around 6 inches or so, more so in certain areas. Today we will take it easy, as my lovely wife was up all night not feeling well. I think we have some kind of intestinal disease, as it is here one day and then gone the next, then back again. Sure, not pleasant, that’s for sure. It’s not the flu as our doctor said, as once you get it, it doesn’t come back, and this what we have does. I am hoping it goes away sooner than later as both have been putting up with it now for over a month. Even longer or me.

Highway 522 is partially snow covered with a lot of icy sections throughout. Which won’t make travelling all that good today. My wife and I don’t have anywhere to go, so we will be staying home. Not that we feel like going anywhere, anyway.
Today I will work away here on some stories I have on the go, along with keeping an eye on my wife, which will keep me busy for the day. Stay safe. GW

Good Morning!

We all woke up to some more snow this morning. It started early this morning, and it is really coming down now. Yesterday we also had a pile with it snowing pretty well all day. Along with that, we had some pretty high winds, which caused a lot of drifting in certain locations. Like right in front of my woodworking shop door. Seems it likes to test my tolerance now and then, Ha ha. At any rate, once it stops, my lovely wife and I will have our hands full once again cleaning things up. The good news is I did light my shop stove when I finished cleaning up the last bought of snow, so my snowblower is nice and dry, ready to go. I am thinking it will earn its oats this time round, by the looks of what we have had so far. I would say yesterday, and today we had another 8–10 inches, more so in drifts. Highway 522 is snow covered this morning, and with the snow we are having now, travelling won’t be good. Best to stay home if possible and wait for a better day. In saying that, warmer temperatures are closing in on us for a few days, which should melt some of the snow we have now. All said, though, it sure looks pretty out there, with all the snow on the branches of the trees. We haven’t had much of a winter so far this year, but we are making up for it now. Feb came in like a lion, so hoping it goes out like a lamb. Time will tell.

On another note, I didn’t do all that much yesterday, lazed around. My wife was busy as usual, doing some of her wash and making meals. Today I suspect she will continue on doing the same. We try and do our washing on the weekends when the rates are down. Saves us a bit of money.

With that I am off for a bowl of cereal and will then see what I want to do. Stay safe. GW

I’m Working On It!

Good Morning!

Well, other than the very cold weather we had yesterday and through the night, not much is happening. And it did get cold. When I got up to put a couple pieces of wood in our wood furnace at 2:30 AM, the temperature was sitting at minus -38 C/-38 F. The temperature has risen now with it sitting at -23.5 C | -10.3 F. Still quite cold, but not as bad as it was through the night. Being so cold, I plugged our car in before going to bed and left it on all night. We figured with it being so cold, we had better be safe than sorry. Cost a lot of money to replace an engine these days.

Today we will be getting some more snow, maybe a couple inches. So with the snow combined with the southwesterly winds, gusting up to 60 km/h it could reduce your visibility at times if out and about. And the winds will make it feel much colder than it really is.

Highway 522 is snow and ice covered this morning, but the plow has been through a few times overnight. I kind of think it would be a good day to stay at home, inside where it is warm.

With that I am off for some Port Loring, Toast with a bit of Mike Clapperton’s Worlds Best Maple Syrup that my lovely wife is making for me.

Can’t beat that to start off a day. Stay Safe. GW

Good Morning!

It’s a down right cold morning here, waking up in Port Loring. The temperature climbing out of bed was sitting at-32.9 C | -26.62 F. By far the coldest morning this winter. As cold as it may be, we are having some sunshine, but the warmth it is giving off isn’t to be found. At least in part. Without it, things would be a lot worse. Highway 522 is mostly snow covered with a lot of icy sections throughout, which is to be expected being so cold, not to forget the snow and high winds we had yesterday. It’s a good day to stay inside where it is warm, if you can. Others will have to dress warm, that’s for sure, if out and about.

For my wife and I we don’t have anywhere to go, so staying inside is what we are going to do.

On another note, our wood furnace is keeping us nice and warm. Hardly took any wood at all to heat our home through the night. I would say around 8 small pieces in total. I would hate to see how much oil it would have taken if we had used it.

With that, I am off for a bowl of cereal this morning and will then see what the day has in store, other than what I have planned. Stay safe.

What’s Happening In & Around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada on Feb 2/2023

Good Morning!

It’s a cloudy morning, waking up. We are having a few flurries at the moment, but nothing like it has been. We didn’t have any more snow to speak of overnight. Highway 522 is half snow covered with some icy sections throughout. They are calling for some more snow with whiteout conditions later on today, when the winds pick up. When the winds do pick up, they will usher in some extreme cold temperatures for tonight, tomorrow and tomorrow night. So an extra blanket will be needed when you go to bed tonight. At least for those living in our area.

On another note, we did have a pile of snow to clean up yesterday, which took my wife and I most of the morning. The good part was, the snow was light, which helped us a lot in moving it. I would say the last snow fall accumulation would be between 4 -6 inches. So, total snow on the ground now is around the 2-3 footmark in certain areas. About right for our area for this time of year. I have seen a few snowmobiles in the past few days, which means that some are out enjoying themselves. Which is nice to see.

My wife and I don’t own a snowmobile, as they are too expensive, with all the expense that is attached to them these days, insurance and things. We do however get out for a walk occasionally, when we aren’t moving snow, which is nice in itself, as we do have some nice country in our area.

With that, I am off for some waffles that my lovely wife is preparing, and will then see what the day has in store. Too cold outside to be doing much. Stay safe. GW

What’s Happening In & Around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada on Feb 1/2023

Good Morning!

Well, here it is, Feb 1. We finally made it to where we, at the very least, know that spring isn’t all that far off. Which is okay with me. But looking outside, you wouldn’t know it, with all the snow that we have been having for the past few days. And to top that off, we have had some pretty cold temperatures. And by the looks of things we are going to have some really cold temperatures for the next two days and nights. After that, though, the temperature will rise to a touch above the freezing mark, which should get rid of a bit of our snow. So … roller coaster weather is going to be the norm, for the weeks ahead. This morning waking up was much warmer than yesterday with it sitting at -9.9 C | 14.18 F. Highway 522 is snow covered with a lot of icy sections throughout. Not a good day for travelling. For my lovely wife and I we are staying put these days, as both of us isn’t all that well. We aren’t sure what is bugging us, most just feeling nausea. Weird really, been that way for over three weeks. But we are moving around, which is good in part.

On another note, with all the snow we have had for the past two days, I am going to try to clean out our driveway. Other than that, the rest can wait till we feel better.

With that, I am off to have a bite to eat. Not sure what yet. Have a great day and stay safe. GW

What’s Happening In & Around Port Loring, Ontario, Canada on Jan 31/2023

Good Morning!

It is a very cold morning here in Port Loring. Through the night the temperature got down to -28.3 C | -18.94 F. And at the moment it is sitting at -21.1 C | -5.98 F. For the next three nights it will remain very cold. Highway 522 is almost bare, but there are some icy sections throughout. On the good side of things, it is nice and sunny out there this morning, but the sun sure isn’t handing out any warmth. Last night was the coldest we have it so far this winter.

Yesterday I didn’t do much and today by the looks of things I will be taking it easy again, as now my wife isn’t feeling all that well stomach wise. So not sure what is going on with us these days, as we really haven’t gone anywhere to catch anything. But you never know, maybe just getting the mail something latched on to us. At any rate, we will just have to take it easy till it passes. Always something these days to put a person down.

With that, I am off to make my wife a cup of tea and a piece of toast, see if I can get her to eat and drink something light. Have a great day. GW
